Oh, BTW - about those package places - just be careful of some of those! My mom and I discovered that one of the places she had been using was really hiking up the prices. She would send a parcel (for which she paid $5 to send) and then the place would send it via a cheaper rate and pocket the difference. Most folks using the store didn't think to ask the recipient of their package "Hey - what was it priced when you received it?" It just so happens I commented on the price to my Mom and that's when we discovered it. Her friend called her dd and found out her package had been doctored the same way - pay for express (and more than express would even cost, at that!) then ship it out parcel post or book rate, even. Insurance wasn't always on the package either (even though purchased). Just a note of caution....

Sellers do that on eBay all the time. That's one of the reasons I stopped buying stuff on eBay -- well, that and the scams that were becoming more ever-present.

Yikes, I had no idea. I don't do a lot of shipping, but thanks for the heads up. Seems like you have to watch everything these days. Everyone is trying to pull a fast one. Just today at Winn-Dixie, I bought sirloin tip roast, buy 1 get 1 free. Well I always look over the bill before I walk out, and it turned out they owed me almost $20. "oh, my, it was coded wrong." For some reason it irked me.

Holiday Traditions: Mmnn...it seems that it is a touchy subject this year. As a nurse, I usually working either the Eve or Day. Well this year, for the season of miracles, I have both off, and DH also. First time in 9 years we have both days off together. I think as of now, we are doing EVE at DH's, and morning and day with my family. My mom thinks this isn't enough, and is laying on the guilt. Sining her famous "this may be my last Christmas..." song.
Never mind her own husband has been in the hospital for 2 weeks. (stepdad is doing much better now) If anyone deserves the mic for that tune, he does. Well she is healthy as a horse, and I always remind her, it might be my last Christmas. It has been 8 years since I have been married, you would think all of this would be fizzling out...

Anyway, we would always have cider on Christmas Eve, open a few presents, have a jolly time, and would wake up at dawn and Santa would have all his loot spread out. There was always a letter thanking us for the cookies. Such wonderful memories. My brother and I would always declare a Christmas truce and get along the entire day, watching "A christmas story" over and over. We were always jealous of our Catholic friends---It seemed so awesome to be able to stay up all night and play with presents as the rest of the world had to wait!

btw, when you cook a roast in the crockpot, is it supposed to shrink as it cooks? When does it get tender? The pups might have a special dinner tonight from the looks of it now. :hammer:

CROCKPOT!! That's CB's favorite word!! Too bad she's not here to appreciate it!!

Um, it depends on the kind of roast and the amount of time you've been cooking it, and the amount of liquid you've put in the pot. But really, it's hard to ruin something in a crockpot. Add some stewed tomates. Can't go wrong with stewed tomatoes. Or crushed tomatoes. And garlic or onions.

[We just made stew yesterday, and last year, I finally was able to convince DH that the less expensive cut of meat (chuck -- the stuff with more fat in it) was actually better for stew (i.e., more tender and less chewy). So now, our stews are much better.]

never underestimate (or I should say overestimate!) my cooking ability. I put a can of beef broth in there, it's a 3 lb sirloin tip. Browned each side, and put it in on low in my roaster. My last roast went on to have a successful career as a hockey puck in the NHL. This one might follow in its footsteps...

Kim

I sent her my shipping label, she took that and her receipt, and they notified someone of authority (in the end, I recall the police were involved and said that this was a common scam.) I think that because it involved the mail system, it carried stiffer penalties than, say, getting shafted for an overcharge on a Slurpee at a 7-11. I do know they shut the facility down.

As for things in crockpots - I tend to put in more liquid than most folks just to insure things won't dry out. I'm always worried ti will dry out and a fire will ensure, and then an "easy" dinner will turn into a nightmare. My favorite: put an eye of round in with a can of beef broth, a can of French Onion soup, and a bottle of beer. Let that baby go on low all day. Afterwards, I shred the meat up and strain the liquid in the pot and we have the best French dip sandwiches with it. Yum... :goodvibes

Like the purple one that hangs over the Joe durign the playoffs??? Yay!!

Hi all! Still trying to upload my scrapping project. I hate dial-up!

Here's our Xhristmas tradition. Open presents at home Eve morning. (May have to post-pone tha tthis year as we need to run 8 to 10 miles.) Load up teh sleigh (presents for about 17) and head to the ILs for thier traditional CHristmas. 4 o'clock mass, back for large family holiday dinner. Do dishes until about 10 (Yup, I'm head dishwasher, merry Christmas to me) Then around 10:30 or 11, we *Start* decorating teh tree. DO this until 2 or 3 am, and crowl into bed. DH's little sister is finally sleeping past 6 am, thank goodness. So we sleep until 7 or 8. Not a morning person nayway, even less so then.

Howver, 10 peple and boat loads of presents in a very small room with a very large tree is awesome!! (Even if both of my legs have fallen asleep by the time we finish.) It's one of the best times with the ILs all year!

Must be at grandma 1's by 11 am. (Breakfast does not exist. If you're lucky, you can grab a cookie or 2, not great for low blood-sugared me, but I've survived thus far.) An hour or so there and off to grandma 2's. Now, we saw them noth the night beofre, but that doesn't count. Hour or so there and then off to my family's celebration after about an hour- hour and a half drive. Usually late for that and my parents try not to be hurt. Just can't win sometimes. DInner with my family. Up early for after CHristmas sales. Then off to my aunts for their CHirstmas celebration that night. Homelate. Get up next day, have breakfast adn go home to sleep until New Years. This si also when we finish putting up Christmas dec's. Never enough time. What was gopherit's busy song????

I forgot who was Catholic and went to midnight mass. Rozzie? Well, I'm protestant and we always did midnight mass when we were old enough, but no presents that night. Dh's family is Catholic, but have never done midnight mass. I think it depends on the area you're in.

OK, I sitll have real work to do. My house was clean yesterday, though. DOn't know if it still meets that today.

AFMom

Not Catholic - but we opened everything Christmas Eve! We would go to my Gmas' house for egg nog, cookies, etc with the whole family - get home at about 9pm , and lo and behold! Santa had already come to our hose while we were gone! So we got to do everything then!
I think my mom just loved opening presents with the tree lights glowing in the darkened room - candles - more atmosphere. We were a bit sleepy - calmer I suppose, everything seemed a bit subdued somehow...... more magical..... and then we got to sleep in!!!!!
I really miss that. My DH is the traditional Xmas morning person and about had a fit at the Eve idea for our kids.....
So we now do 1 gift for the kids, do some Xmas Eve stuff with friends, and hide the "Pickle" ornament on the tree - first one to find it gets the prize! We always read the Polar Express right before they go to bed.... It's still pretty nice - but I miss how we did it as kids - I guess that's how it always is!

12-05-2005, 04:39 AM
My brother and I were talking on the phone today - this will be the first year he's electing to not do the World Tour For Peace and instead spend Xmas in his OWN home, with his immediate family, rather than going door to door on a 9-hour each way driving tour from this family to that! He has 3 kids now (youngest is 1 yr old) - I told him we postponed the World Tour until after xmas at least back before our 3rd was born, so he's lasted longer than we did! As he so aptly put it... You know, we drive 9 hours in a van just so our kids can experience Xmas "the way we did as kids"... but WE didn't spend it riding 9 hours in a van, so what's the point? Plus, I think he and his wife are about at wit's end anyway. He is getting deployed to parts unknown in January (as far as we know, he will be hopping around the middle east...he's a Maj. in the AF, stationed for now at Wright-Patt). So they probably feel a need to nest a bit while they can. HE's trying to cajole our family into coming to HIM for a change... (and using me too, since we are about 3 hrs apart) Of course, I said, Gopherit, Man! Can't blame him at all. SOmetimes those (is it Expedia?) ads about needing a vacation from your vacation ring a little too true!!

I always end up with a VERY sore tongue at my ILs from biting it so much, so hard. SInce the dawn of time (or at least, the dawn of me knowing these people), my DH and I have traversed far and wide to see them. Can't say the same in the other direction. I suppose one could argue that my MIL just can't travel (she has fibro and say long trips do her in), but that's no excuse for DH's brother and his family. who live in the same town as MIL/FIL. My son asked my MIL last visit when she and Pop-Pop would ever visit us at home - she explained to him that she just doesn't travel well anymore. SO he asked when his Aunt/Uncle might visit. OH, said MIL, they CAN'T come visit you, says, MIL! You live MUCH too far away for them, it would be such a hard trip, what with the 2 boys and now a baby, too... I could stand it no longer and said,

"Yeah, fighting that jet stream is HE** to deal with. Going east to west with 3 kids is SO MUCH more difficult that West-to-East."

(I mean, hellloooooo... lady with 3 kids herself talkin' here, who's made the trek moretimes than she can count for the past 15 years, always more than once a year, and sometimes sans hubby, even, just me and the kids!)

I think the other stressor is that when I have called to inform family that someone in our group is ill (I once had DH in hospital and all 3 kids with bronchitis - one had pneumonia, actually!) my MIL always offers to come "help". OK, if long trips wear her out - she would just make that FIVE people I have to care for, right? And if she can musterthe energy for that - wouldn't we MUCH rather have her do it when we are all WELL?

Family. Slap me senseless with a yule log. I love these people dearly, but after the holidays, it gets pretty hard to tell the difference between me and a Hickory Farms Fruitcake....:hammer:

Got no sleep, kids dragged through all of the school work/lessons, house is a wreck, didn't get the errands done I needed to do, we're on the last few days without 'Dad' and both kids are really behaving horribly - like they're getting it all out of their systems so they can behave for him...... how is that fair?!?!?!?!

Last night was bad, as I had to go and find pictures of my cousin Derek for the memorial service, and then all this anger came out from no where. Not toward him, but toward myself for not taking more pictures. Which leads to a question...is all your pictures organized in photo albums???

I am about 50-50--- photo album and---let me lay in here and do something with it later. I have this big cedar chest, and pictures were just laying all in there with no particular order. Drunk graduation pictures mingled with my first baby as a baby to Mickey. Do you use photo boxes, or all albums? Good grief, I have discovered a project that needs quite a bit of attention.

Hi, all.

Rozzie, it's good to see you checking in. Still praying for you all.

As for my pictures, I just caught up on the last year and a half about a month ago. I have photo-safe albums that have a spot (like the label on a Ziploc bag) where you can label stuff, and you just slide them in the pocket. I'm feeling pretty good if I get that done - just ask Carrie for my views on scrapbooking!

Spent another day at the studio yesterday, and it went so well. I was so psyched - I was there for 12 hours, and I still couldn't sleep at all last night. It's just so fun to hear it all start to come together, and I also got a new song on it that I wrote last week. Wasn't sure we'd be able to get it on this album, and I'm so glad I did. We had a great time too - it's frankly a kind of weird song, but I love it. We had places to just do strange percussion stuff, and that's always fun. I beat on a pipe with a wrench, had another guy playing coffee cans (sounds like a metallic conga), and another one playing a snare by scraping his fingernails across it. I know it sounds terrible, actually, but it came out really really cool. And so I was up all night thinking things like, "Shoot! We forgot the kasaba! And I need to put a wood block on the 4" and other totally geeky things like that. But it's a lot of fun, and I do think I'll have the tracks for Christmas.

Can you tell I'm a little excited about the project? LOL. I'm off to pick up the kids. Gotta live my other life sometimes, I guess.

PoohsPal--I just love Mulan! It reminds me to move my avatar from the old board over here. Speaking of Mulan, I get so irked that you can't ever find Mulan stuff at the parks. I know, a thing here or there. But she is so absent from the shelves. I'll get with you soon, about the photo box. I definately want it.

AFMom, so happy to hear your DH is coming home soon. I can't imagine how excited you must be! So is your fudge recipe easy to make? I was thinking about attempting some this Christmas.

Thanks everyone for your support this past week. The memorial service was last night, and it brought a lot of closure for a lot of my family. Christmas is going to be so, well, I can't think about it now. I am taking today off, reading my new Jane Austen book, and doing some planning for our BCV trip. It is so nice to have a place like this to escape to. I am going to order our APs for stocking stuffers. Kinda expensive $$$ stuffer! :bugeyed:

Thanks again for all your kind words, hope everyone has a great weekend!

Rozzie, still praying for you.

Can I come to your house? In our stockings we get chocolate and like, well, socks. I mean, that's good and everything, but an AP might be a touch better:blueflowe .

Jane Austen is without a doubt my favorite author of all time. What are you reading? It indicative that even my husband quotes her now - not necessarily because he likes it, mind you, he just hasn't been able to escape.

Only kind of paraphrasing since I know this isn't quite right, but "You're fairly good at the pianoforte. Had I ever learnt, I would have been a proficient!" I love it.

Hope you have a great day off!

Nothing like a day with a book to soothe the soul. Good for you!

Will you stuff my stockings too? Well, my page is kind of empty because I thought I'd pic up some Mulan stickers and just recently found out that's not easy to do.

FYI - FOr those of you who voted what character I'm most like, I suddenly thought of Mulan later. Not a princes. Kind of clumesy and seems hopeless, but does well in the end. What I posted was half of my layout for that project.

Quotes like "Ancestors help me and please don't let me be an embarrassemnt" (Not exactly the quote, but close..

Well, that's me!

What's on everybody's weekly planner?

DH and I are taking tomorrow off to do some shopping, lunch, and finally sign off on my 39th birthday gift (yes, the lovely will and living trust... my DH, the incurable romantic. He'll probably expand my life insurance policy for Valentine's Day, the sexy rascal.) Then it's 3 different office / holiday parties, a day of schlepping lunch for kindergarteners (my dd really looks forward to me doing this every other week. Funny, she hardly thinks it's special when I serve her meals at home, but somehow, having Mom dole out the Jello to her and 22 other tikes is her dream come true.) I'll probably take THursday off to get some stuff done - wrapping, baking, cleaning, and waiting on furniture guy (dd is getting her "big girl bed" and a desk/bookshelves). Wkend plans include Daisy scouts skating party, 2 basketball games, and Saturday caroling with the youth from my neighborhood, followed by cocoa and cookies over here. Then SUnday, it's practice practice practice for our church youth xmas play - the play is that night, followed by desserts. THis is my 2nd year for writing the play - and the kids get so into it! My son is supposed to be Simon Cowell and has been working, unbeknownst to me, on his accent... he surprised me with it today, and it was too funny. One of my favorite nights of the year - so much fun.

We had some snow here - but not nearly enough to make it worth our while! Kids were VERY bummed... went to bed Thurs with the promise of 3-6" and woke up with snow on the ground, but mostly ice and slush (so no fun to play in), and even worse, clear roads, so school was still "on"! Hoping we can get at least one nice snow day this year - seems like the past several winters have been perpetual "spits and spurts" of 3" of snow at a time, but no nice big snowthe kids could really enjoy. I just bought them all new snow boots and stuff... that's probably why it will NOT snow this year, haha.

Anyhoooo, best wishes for a good week, all!

Gout.... gout.... let it all out.... (see, I TOLD you it was stuck in my head.... AUUGHHH! I HATE that song! SOmebody quick, throw me a new word! And nothing that rhymes with ANY Tears for Fears songs, please!)

We are babysitting 2 pugs of my friends for 3 weeks while they are at her family's in Rome - so I'm up while the kids take them out and feed them , etc - but then back to bed for me. Had to cancel the kids' homeschool book exchange Christmas thing (they didn't know about it yet luckily), and a "coffee" Ornament exchange at my DH's Commander's house tonight..... I'll be marking things off the calendar day by day! Oh well - better than getting everyone else sick, right?

We would line up chairs in the living room and pretend we were at the movies. Popcorn and everything.

Don't even know where to start! Where did all these posts come from?

Carrie, you talk all the marathon you want. I've been obsessing about the album for forever - everyone gets a turn!

AFMom - so hope you're feeling better! And so nervous that I'll get sick before Thursday since I still have some singing to do at the studio (see, there's that album again!)

TW1 - tee hee hee!

Laura - so glad you had a great time! And I hope your transition back to work goes well for both of you!

Rozzie - Emma is one of my favorites. Right up there with P and P - you'll love it! And the movie is good too (the Gwyneth Paltrow one).

Rash - gout!

Okay, have I covered my bases? Don't want to miss anyone.

And now for nothingness with a little something thrown in too:

We got a new nephew on Thursday, yea! We also got to see our friends' new daughter last night, and she is so beautiful. My kids are getting big. No, I'm not saying I need any more.

I have a dog who does not shed, so she has to be shaved. We got cold here early, and she looks like a wooly mammoth. But if I shave her, she'll freeze. She also has cancer, and it's getting harder for her to keep herself warm. So what to do? Yes, I went and bought my dog a sweater. A cute little black argyle. Mm hmm. Never thought I'd do that. I don't even like to buy clothes for myself, let alone the dog. And what happened while I was looking for a cute sweater? Well, I found a darling little black parka. And a raincoat. Yep. My dh is appalled. Wants to know how he's going to walk her without needing to fall through the sidewalk whenever he meets people. My daughters want to know why I didn't get her a coordinating hat and scarf. Again, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the difference between the sexes.

A useless bit of trivia from my own "bizarro world" (hey jnrrt, I use that expression all the time, but for life of me, can't recall where it came from.... small world!)

On wintery days, I drive my dd to her school (rahter than have the poor little muskrat ride the cold bus). Our drive takes us past the city park, where we are compelled, as we approach the park, to speculate out loud, whispering to each other "Could it be.... is it cold enough..... just maybe we will see... uh-oh... yes... I think... just mayyyyybe....YES! YES!!! There it is!! I SEE IT RIGHT THERE! " At which point we will then sing loudly, in unison:

"Dogs-in-Sweaaaaaaaaa-terrrrs!"

I can't explain why. :idontgeti It's just something we must do. We're weird like that, I guess. Try not to hold it against us.

jnrrt
12-13-2005, 01:31 PM
It's okay. I would have joined you in the singing before. I feel a little bit now like we need to hide her - our little "alternative lifestyle" secret, IYKWIM kind of thing. I mean, we love our dog, she's a member of the family, but usually our philosophy has been "dogs are dogs and should be dogs". Now apparently they are also fashionable.

This has opened a new world to the four year old. She did not know dressing the dog was an option, so now, there are endless possibilities. In one day, she has recommended at least 5 outfits we should consider (no, darling, we are stopping that fashion train right here! The dog is not your barbie!). My dh is having trouble being in the house. Of course, last night he did say that although it's still stupid to have a dog in a sweater, I picked a cute one, and she did look warmer. Maybe tonight he'll come home with a Snow White costume, AFMom.

So now the question. The dog has been shaved, groomed, washed (and I have to say, she is the cutest thing in the world when she's just been groomed. Helps that she's the nicest dog in the world as well), and then we added the sweater. Frankly, she's much cuter without it. But she's warm, so we're keeping it. It doesn't even seem to bother her. But now, do they ever take it off? If the goal is to stay warm, I would think she's wearing this thing until her fur grows out some more. But that just seems wrong. I mean, I change my clothes (aren't you glad to know that?). Shouldn't she? And yet, she walks around in her fur all day and night, and doesn't get baths very often, so is the sweater now like extra fur?

Anybody know Wallace and Gromit's "A Close Shave?" My dog is Shaun. (Or is it Shorn? Had to tell with the accent.)

Rozzie
12-13-2005, 02:29 PM

Santa brought DD (11) a sewing machine last year.

What's the first thing she made? A doggie sweater!

Yup, little red fleece jacket! Now the little furball doesn't actually wear it outside the house thank goodness, just around the house when she is forced to dress up and be part of the fun-and-games.

Personally, I cringe at every penny spent on that thing (the dog, not the sewing machine) other than food and annual vet bills.

But, it is DW's third child and DD's best friend, so I grin and bear it. Whatever makes them happy, makes me happy.

BTW, last night DW asked how much insurance we have? Hmmmm?

lllovell
12-13-2005, 03:47 PM
Hubby really would give me the look if I upped his life insurance because I am the one that insists he STOP overinsuring! (Of course he is doing it for us...but if I can't take care of the children with a paid off house, car and enough money in the bank for some decent college funds, then we need to SERIOUSLY rethink our spending!) So if I start talking about more life insurance, I do think he would get very nervous!

I still haven't caught up reading :( I may never I suppose. Back to work this week (PJ is at the daycare today and I am a very sad mommy) and I SWEAR, they are all demanding things RIGHT NOW!!! No catching my breath, no chance to even clear all the crapola off my desk....I have gotten no less than 10 emails yesterday requesting things ASAP. I would call it job security, but I think its resentment for being "off" as if maternity leave is a vacation! (OK - so we did go to WDW for a week - but still! )

Ok - vent over....

Good lord - I don't even know what word I am supposed to be shouting in public for no apparent reason is....truly depressing.

Since you are all so amused with my pampered pooch, please feel free to be my guest in walking it around the block in 18 degree weather.

I will post a sign up sheet shortly.

Don't rush people, there are plenty of cold winter days ahead and you will all get a turn.

*waving to Rash* But you are here in spirit every time we yell

GOUT!!!

I should be too busy to post, but what the heck - a girl need a break every once in a while :)

I can't believe how much I have left do to for Christmas!!! ack! I think I need a personal shopper. I am also grumbling at myself for not buying something I saw at the Walmart just down from Crossroads last week because now I can't find it here  My boys are big Star Wars fans and LOVE the Clone Wars cartoons. The 2nd batch of the cartoons just came out on DVD (which I DID buy while I was there) and it has 2 sets of figures that go with it. I didn't buy the figures because my oldest was with me (I could hide a DVD, but the figures come 3 to a box, so not small) and NOW I CAN'T FIND THEM HERE! WAAAAAA!! I think this might require another trip to WDW before Christmas! Do you think I can get hubby to go for it? :hammer: Oh well - not like they aren't already getting plenty :) but I am going for little gifts other than their bikes because either we have too much junk or our house is shrinking. :beaniepro

*trying not to stress...trying not to stress* OK - so that isn't working, but I suspect its the anxiety I am having over going back to work as well. I went through this with both boys as well, so I know it will pass....but I am about 99% sure my chest might explode from the tightness I am feeling right now....:yo-yo: (the funny thing is I am NOT a good stay at home mother...the mother part I am great at - the being organized and doing things on schedules, etc - not so good at so I actually get more done at home when I work)

So who wants mexican for lunch?

Laura

Hi all - just a short check in before I fall back on the couch.:faint:
I haven't been this sick for this long in ages..... 104 for 2 days and now I'm hovering in the 102 range..... ug. Just that and headaches, coughing, aching all over.....
DH's squadron's big Christmas party is Friday - big dinner, dancing, etc...... I have to get better now!!!! Not to metnion the state of our house is now dismal!
This is loads of fun to read I'll bet!:hammer:
Have to pipe in about DH yesterday.... I was shocked. He didn't have much to do at work until today - so he stayed home, took DS to speech therapy, did most of the kids' homeschool stuff with them (which he's never done), and then took them to their Pack Meeting for Cub Scouts last night. Yay! Basically none of that would have happened if he hadn't stayed home.:blueflowe
Haven't done a thing today yet except shower and get dressed. It's almost noon. Oh well, right? Maybe I'll feel better by this afternoon. Clean laundry would be nice..... maybe some clean dishes?
OK - that's it for me....I suppose I'll feed the kids lunch before I crash!

:ROTFL: Bwaa-haa-haa!:ROTFL:

How masculine you must feel walking Peanut in her red sweater! You must really feel powerful and huge and caveman-like when you walk that sweet, white pooch with a jacket named Peanut!

But then, my husband walks a schnauzer in a sweater. But her name is Butch.

:hehehehe: NOT!

What a sweet and sympathetic wife I am, really. No wonder he counts his lucky stars.

Really, TW1, a man's man is the one who's manly enough to be secure in his masculinity while walking a sweet white pooch named Peanut who wears a red jacket. I'm pretty sure I'm quoting that verbatim from Dr. Phil. And I know he worked hard to get "man" and "manly" in there a lot.

I have GOT to do my Christmas cards today :bugeyed: I keep losing days this year. I think the holiday being on Sunday is GREAT for celebrating (since most people will be off on Monday) but dang it all - its killing my timing!!! ACK!!!

At least I got most of my packages off already! One more to go and I think I am this close *holding fingers almost together* to being done with MY shopping but I still have to buy gifts for the kids from my dad. I talked to him today and he really is missing my mother. I HATE him being in New Orleans :crymeariv but I know its easier for him NOT to be home right now. OK, dense husband here.

It took me a few hours last night to figure out why DW was in such a state. Slamming drawers, banging pot lids...

Then it hit me!

Duh!

We're driving to my parents tonight!

Just what she loves to do. Spend 5 hours in the car, driving due north, in the winter, just to sit around, make small talk, have some crappy no-salt, no-fat, no-carb no-fun meals and turn around and drive back again. On a Sunday, a week before Christmas, through NY traffic.

Yup. Took me some time, but I figured it out. But then I joined her and slammed a few doors.

jnrrt
12-16-2005, 03:53 PM
Oh, TW1, I feel your pain. We do the three kids in the car for 7 hours through snow to spend, usually, one day, and then come back. We do have fun when we're there, but I hate all the driving.

Almost finished with the album. Could I cut it any closer? We finished all the tracking yesterday morning, and mixed stuff for the rest of the day. Finished everything except for one song, and little touch-ups. I go back Monday to do that, and then give it to them to master. Jon said he could get it done in 3ish days. So that means I pick it up hopefully on Thursday or Friday, and then burn copies for family presents to be given on Saturday - the larger family does Christmas Eve.

Obviously, I still need to get it officially printed, but at least the music will be done. I was hoping that it would be done with maybe a week to spare, but we'll take what we can get, right? :)

AFMOM...goodness - 8 more days? :( Hang in there honey. Sending you lots of get well pixie dust!

I believe (if memory serves me correctly) it got its name from the fact that we were like Seinfield...a bunch of friends sitting around talking about everything and nothing...

It started out on another site when one of the regulars (greenban) was gone for a while and we were looking for him. The name changed when we moved WELL beyond looking for greenban (thank goodness - he returned, unharmed except for a couple of strangely places hoof prints. :hammer: )

Then again....sometimes nothing is just nothing....but nothing sure takes up a lot of my time. Maybe I should see a doctor about this :beaniepro

cobbler, come on in and sit for a while. I will trouble you with my woe is me stories of how I haven't bought the first present. Ok, take that back, bought DH a laptop at bestbuy. Does it count if they are with you?? Giving my parents a check, and my other parents a giftcard. Brother, giftcard. Cousin, giftcard. Boss giftcard. I will not win the prize this year for most thoughtful and original present. I guess I just feel like so much effort has to go into it, and with all that has happened this month, well, not going to go there.

Going to be great Christmas, DH and I are off together for the first time since we have been together, EVE and DAY off. I am supposed to go to his Christmas Party tomorrow morning at 0830. 12-17-2005, 02:23 PM
I'm not gonna pretend that I've kept up with this or other threads 'cause I haven't. I love Christmas and this season, but I can't wait 'till January. Between the 4 birthday parties my daughter needs to be taxied to this weekend, the 4 Christmas parties DW and I have to go to (yes, HAVE TO GO - these are not parties that would be smart to skip), last minute shopping and wrapping, tending to a 4 month old, doctors appointments for that 4 month old (yes, he needs the cranial molding band), finding the $3000 to pay for the cranial molding band, end of year business and personal finance decisions, attempting to buy a car before years end, homework (amazing how much there is in kindergarten), school christmas shows, a sick 5 year old, organizing our annual family dinner night out on South Street in Philly, updating our life insurance and health insurance policies, packing for the 7 hour drive to Philly, training two new employees at work, christmas cards, finding babysitters for the parties, dealing with busted heating system and the subsequent red tape with the home warranty company, making PS's for our Disney trip in May, attempting to organize a ski trip in February, playing psychologist to depressed family members (sisters, brothers), and doing this all with one day off in the last 10 days (I'm at work now), there is no time to breathe, let alone peruse these boards.

I don't know when I'll be posting again, so

Merry Christmas!

AFMom
12-17-2005, 04:30 PM
You win, Rash - you're officially in worse shape than me!:faint:
Sorry to hear your son ended up needing the cranial molding band - and that you have to pay for it. I can't believe your insurance isn't covering that! I know the bright side is that they understand his condition and can help him with it (Yay for modern medicine), but it still must be hard to handle. I'm sure it will turn out fine in the end - but getting to the end sure can be rough.
The one Christmas Party we HAD to go to - we were able to cancel because I'm still pretty darn sick - so we ended up home watching Charlie Brown with the kids last night instead.
Someone needs to invent a pause button for the holidays so we can go back to really enjoying ourselves.... Make it illegal to plan any sort of non-family/friends parties, etc the week before! We've had to cancel everything since last Sunday for me and the kids - but I haven't been able to enjoy the time at all. Fever still up in the 101.6 range by noon every day.
Anyway - Merry Christmas to you, Rash, I'm sure you'll make the best of all of it........ hopefully you'll get to relax a bit on the actual holiday!:goodvibes

Rozzie
12-17-2005, 04:46 PM
I know Rash, my life just seems boring compared to yours. It will all come together for you, just must seem light things are never going to let up.

It really is weird how everything comes to a climax at the end of the year. Especially bills. Got our Homeowner's notice in mail, taxes, in mail, and with DVC dues coming up, and DH's dental work ($$$) coming up...Geez, serenity NOW!

AFMom, a pause button for the holidays? That sounds great! I can't believe it's here, and I got to get my butt in gear. I really don't have an exuse, no soaring temps, sick children, office Christmas Parties.

QUESTION:
Honest answers please. Can't hurt my feelings. Would you be disappointed if you got a gift card for a present???? I'm starting to second guess.

AFMom
12-17-2005, 08:13 PM
Rozzie - I beg for gift cards from everyone every year - Barnes and Noble, Old Navy, anything! Yet - no one gives me any!!!! I think they are wonderful - especially for people like me who can never justify spending money on themselves. i know it's supposed to be less personal - but I'm telling you - I'd love it! I think we've decided to do gift cards next year - we spent $72 in shipping , plus the $22 for the Christmas cards - so rather than waste it shipping things - I'm going to put the money I'd usually spend on shipping into the cards!:goodvibes

jnrrt
12-18-2005, 01:05 AM
Rozzie, I'm with AFMom. I love gift cards. I really hate getting things I don't want, not because I'm a snob or whatever, but waste drives me nuts, and there is so much of it at the holidays. So gift cards make me happy as long as they're to places I would use them (oh, see the trouble in shopping for me?)

That said, I know that gift cards are an absolute no-no in my dh's family. They're considered a personal insult (hence a lot of my frustration about waste - when you know you'll receive things you'll never use AND spend money to give things they probably don't want anyway, but we're trying). So I would go with my gut about the recipients. Many people would love it, but you have to know them to know. And unfortunately, the ones we know the best, we're supposed to be able to buy for.

But then again, as I've said, I know my dh really well (I hope so!) and he's pretty tough to buy for.

So did I just totally cloud the issue for you or what? Sorry that that's my Merry Christmas present to you!

Well - it's DS's 8th b'day today. I have to drug myself up - we're going out to lunch at Landry's (Ds's choice) and then go see the Nutcracker. I think DS made out this year - a 3mp digital camera and a Red Rider BB Gun! I think I got a Strawberry Shortcake doll when I turned 8.......Or maybe it was a My Little Pony?
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
We're trying to pin down my MIL and FIL on whether they want to stay at WDW next Dec for 5 nights or 6.... our 11 mo window is finally getting here! I can't wait... But we'll be getting a 2 bdrm, and the Fri night points are killing me if they want to stay the 6 nights. They won't want to move for 1 night (I don't want to either), and we'd have to get 2 hotel rooms..... So I guess I'll just have to suck it up if we decide to stay longer.

AFMom-I guess that is why we never travel with family. It drives me batty trying to nail down dates. And plus, they have backed out on us so many times, we finally just gave up.

I had a eventful afternoon. Got into a high school revisted screaming match with my mother. At one point she said she is never talking to me again. Ah, the holidays, Norman Rockwell would be proud.

Guess all that is left to do today is..

CHIPMUNK!

Yeah I know it looks like a squirrel to me too. But I did get that image when I googled Chipmunk Beer. It was the closest I could get, please forgive me.

You know, it's heartening in this Christmas season to know that when we google "chipmunk beer" we'll get a good pic, even if it's of a squirrel.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting all warm and fuzzy. In fact, I'm seeing Jimmy Stewart running down a snowy walkway....

Chipmunk Beer, everyone! And Merry Christmas!!!!

The fact that you all are sitting around googling chipmunk anything is cracking me up! I hope it is helping everyone get through these hectic days just like it is me!

Oldest is here at work with me today....with a stomach bug that is hopefully passing (just what Carrie wants to hear - - - that someone in my family was up sick the night after she was brave enough to meet us all for breakfast!!! The breakfast was so much fun and I hope I get a chance to meet up with you and your hubby again Carrie!!! :loveisint :flowerfor ). Now we are just waiting to see who else is going to get it. Apparently my niece has it as well too - same timing as Charlie. We were all together on Sat night. I am just hoping two things 1. that my VERY VERY pregnant sister doesn't get it and 2. that little PJ doesn't get it. (keeping fingers crossed, but apparently most adults aren't getting sick with this one - just the kids and they handle sick so much better than I do :yuck: )

So, I am off to spray lysol on everything I can (ok - not really but trying to get everything done today as quickly as possible to get Charlie home...he is watching one of my Christmas presents - Princess Bride :goodvibes for the first time, so at the moment, he is perfectly content! INCONCEIVEABLE!!! )

Will check in later to see what else you all are googling :beaniepro

Greetings...

Rash - while I'm loving the rodential reference... I'm hurt that you passed over the opportunity to yell "GOPHER!" instead. This time of year, the word "chipmunk" only brings up visions of these guys, singing their little "Christmas time is here" song....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/ck26181/chipmunks.jpg

Combine that with beer, smokes and thongs and ewwwwww.... One can only imagine.

Anyhoo - crazy crazy times here. We've had a few illnesses - some resp stuff, and DS and I had a brief bit of stomach flu. DH is ill now, and I have my eye on our DD - she gets pneumonia EVERY year between Turkey day and Xmas, it seems... she seems to be running so tired lately, I question her immune system right now...I'm hoping she doesn't come down with anything becuase it could wipe her out. Doing my best to keep her hydrated, well-rested and well!

You know, I once knew a lady who, during flu season, would often spray Lysol in a cloud and walk through it. I admit I do go on a doorknob / handles binge, spraying anything with great hand contact (phones, handles, doors, etc). But I haven't resorted to the Lysol personal "crop dusting" technique - at least, not yet!

Was told by eye doc today that my eyes had gotten much worse and I'd better brace myself for some very bad news - bad news in the form of the a "B" word... Seeing my vacuous stare, the doc finally, wincingly, prompted: "You know - Bifocals?" (expecting me to wail, moan, and gnash my 39-years-old-but-in-denial teeth). THe young Doogie Houser of Optometry was surprised therefore when instead, I laughed and sighed with relief.

"You're not ... upset?" he asked.

"Oh Lordy NO!" I told him... "Glasses I can handle - I thought the "b" stood for "Blind as a Bat!"

I guess he gets some pretty age-obsessed folks out there. As for me, anyhting that can help reduce the amount of time I spend squinting would be a big relief. My face actually hurts! I'm squinting so much, it's giving me a whole new set of wrinkles to be concerned about, LOL - the bifocals may be a sign of age creeping in, but if I don't get them soon, I'll have a face with more creases than a shar-pei!

Gopherit - one of my favorite Jimmy Buffet lines is "wrinkles only go where the smiles have been" :goodvibes so I wear mine proudly and like you am not afraid to wander into that wild place know as middle age! HA! At least it isn't called the "dark" ages although the "squinty ages" might be appropriate!:bugeyed:

Child numero uno is hanging tough today at the office. He hasn't been ill in some time now and has actually eaten 1/2 a biscuit, so I think the worst is over. My niece is also sick with the same thing, but much worse it sounds like  Poor little ones (I am afraid to call my dad who has my middle child and ask if he is sick...:scary: )

Laura, I hope your little ones are well soon! It's tough to watch them feel yucky.

Gopherit, I have been so blind for so long that I've wondered if it would get to the point that they couldn't correct it. No one ever thinks I have any vision problem since I always wear contacts, only wear my glasses for about 10 mintues before I get into bed, but it's bad! Just nearsighted, but without my contacts I can't recognize my own family if they're not a foot away. I would have had the same reaction if he had warned me about the "b" word - total panic. Oh, you meant bifocals? Bring 'em on! Just so long as it's not blind as a bat. I'm already there.

BTW, my doc says they should always be fixable, so that's good. But my nighttime clock has enormous, enormous numbers. When I brought it home, my dh thought it was so sad.

Speaking of so sad, my little guy got 3 shots today. I hate that. And so did he. But at least they're over now.

I bet you were alll worried when I didn't make it back after meeting Laura adn family, huh? ;) BTW, Laura, Scott adn I were loaded with Airborne for the plane trip, so we should be fine!

Just want to let everyone know that our sassy Miss Laura's wonderful southern charm and hospitality does not come through well in posts. What a wonderful treat to meet her and her family!!!! The weekend was such a whirlwhind, though that it's still somewhat surreal. Did teh trick, though. Thanks for all the pd, as we ruled on that 20-miler! Marathon Ho! (No comment from teh PEANUT gallery! ;) )

Rash - SO sorry that you have to go through with the cranial band! I'm with you on the let's slow down for Christmas, though!

Rozzie - Bear with me a moment. I like presents and surprises. Not a gift card person. However, my dbil always gets me a gift certificate to Marshall Fields. I really look forward to that guilt-free spending! I really do love it! Not to mention, I get a lot of little things that I do not really need for the holidays. So, gift cards avoid that. Now dha dn my parents will never be allowed to go that route, but from tohers, I love it! Not to mention, if anyone knows your work schedule, they should be greatful you took the time for a gift card!!!

I missed my Nothing! It was hell in the dungeon, but I should be free from there until after New Years!!!!!

Great job Poohs Pal on the 20 miler!! I can't even imagine. I got winded running out to take my garbage to the street this morning (pjs, hair sticking up straight...the mental image is scary) before the truck pulled away. I can't believe I sold our treadmill. I really think I might get some pointers from you after the New Year to get back into it.

Wow, I feel so blessed with everyone feeling under the weather. PD for all the little ones who are feeling under the weather.

I stuck with gift cards. Confession time. I never sent out Christmas cards either. That's Ok, we only got 2 this year. I think one of those was from our financial planner.

Break wahing machine during load 4. My dh loves me!

Rozzie - Up until Saturday around 2:30, I never thought I could do 20 either! ;)

Very busy day!

Hope everyone's little ones are feeling better.
