Just wanted to let Rash know that he had a vote from my 3 year old son for the coolest avatar until we scrolled across a post my Ms. Sparrow and he saw Captain Jack Sparrow. Sorry honey - but one less vote for the RASH 2008 campaign now. He did ask me to find a camel after we saw your 500 post, so maybe you can sway his vote by providing said camel. :beaniepro

Its FALL!!! Finally - wonderful weather and I am having to just about beat the small children to get them outside! Football starts soon, so apparently tomorrow is designated as Fall Yard Clean Up day. I know we will be outside all day on that day so no sense in fighting them too much right now.

Anyone doing anything fun today? I am starting to get stir crazy (I know - I was already crazy :P so a short trip) from being inside all summer and now for the last couple of months. I NEED THAT DECEMBER TRIP!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Happy Saturday everyone!

Laura

P.S. I have some sausage and egg casserole that hubby made if anyone wants brunch! It is YUMMY and definately going to be a hit on our trip in December as we can make a lot one day and eat on it for a couple of mornings :) Anything to simplify life when it is keeping me from WDW!

Awwww - Hopefully she will change her mind and want to go see it soon! I really really liked Chicken Little.

ggrr Went to the library today hoping to find the Salvation Army Angel tree and they don't even know if they are getting one this year. I need about 9 of those little angels and was hoping to get a jump on shopping for them. Walmart has a GREAT sweatsuit set for boys that comes with hooded sweatshirts or sweat jackets for only $8.88. I have bought the boys 6 of them (between their two sizes) as they are PERFECT for wearing in almost any temp depending on how much you layer. I was hoping to get a boy or two in those sizes since $8.88 is a great deal on those kinds of sweats. (the regular Hanes ones are $5 each piece and these are much fancier/nicer). Oh well. Maybe I will just risk it and buy a few before they are gone and keep the receipt. :yo-yo: I was just hoping to get most things done before returning to work and its creeping closer and closer :crymeariv

Has anyone seen any Angel trees out yet in your areas? I know its early, but seems to me like the sooner they have them out the better response they will get.

Sorry, we do those through our church - I didn't even know they had them at libraries and such!

We didn't do much exciting today. Went to my parents and watched OSU pulverize Northwestern. Ate lunch. Cleaned up. Hmm. I know I did more because I've been really busy, but I have no idea what it was.

I'm sure many of you can relate to that. Not sure if that's a good thing.

Awwww - Hopefully she will change her mind and want to go see it soon! I really really liked Chicken Little. We just saw it last night in 3-D and it was awesome! We had to drive a zillion miles to Schamburg Il. to see it but it was so worth it. Disney does 3-D like nobody else! :bluebloun

I haven't posted in a few days because I have been enjoying my newfound freedom. :goodvibes I've been teaching myself to use Movie maker. It is so much fun! I was inspired to try because of the announcement that Disney has a service now where they will take your digital pictures and turn them into a http://disneyphotomovie.go.com/movie/. I'm always of the mind that I should try to do something myself and if I can, I wont have to pay someone else to do it. I'll probably still have Disney do one just to see what their's is like.

Congratulations Rash! :rockband: :jumpingbe

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspxIf you have windows xp then you should have moviemaker in your programs so go to all programs and look for it. If you have windows xp but it is not updated click on the link in this post and it will have a link that will update your computer so that you will have it. It's really user friendly. If you don't have windows xp you can download a free trial of photostory 3 I believe. It is the same kind of program.

BTW - I've been making slideshows of our Disney trips these past few years using DVD Builder - it's a pretty good program! No where near as good as the Disney samples I looked at , but also doesn't cost $50!

I've got Pop Tarts to go with that Christmas blend!

Had a great weekend with mom and dad. Only had to cook 1 meal and dh did 70% of that. You spend your whole weeke working and cleaning house and doing meals is juts too much for me. (Sad, I know.) But when you're gone or have all-weekend company 3/4 of the year, it just adds up. :hammer:

jnrrt - You're not supposed to care about sports. ;) Especially not this coming weekend! ;) ;) However, I'll be shopping and will only get updates by text message. :( Even sadder that it will be shopping with the in-laws that don't like ot shop. Carrie, I know I'm not supposed to care, but here, you pretty much have to be dead not to have some idea of what's happening with the Buckeyes. Rabid is the right word for fans here.

Well, both IL's went to MSU. They came to visit the week OSU played MSU, and not only did MSU lose, we went to my parents where my dad was, shall we say, happily rooting for the Buckeyes, and then to just pour salt in the wound, my dh rooted for OSU too! I think my FIL felt forsaken. But, my dh isn't a huge fan of anyone, and we've lived here long enough, I think he's adopted the local culture out of self-preservation. But I was surprised he'd do that openly in front of his parents! Makes me question his character, to sell out his own family... ;)

I feel your pain TW1. This is a make or break game, IMO. They better figure out how to run the ball again or they're done. Regardless, I'm glad T.O. is gone. I'm proud of the Eagles for putting right and wrong ahead of wins/profits. I hope other teams shun him, and his career is over. Doubtful.

Agreed.

TO had to go. Any professional team with a player that disruptive should do the same. I'm proud of the owners for making a very difficult and expensive decision. If I were an owner I hope I would have the same courage to dump such a talented individual.

He's certainly not the first of his kind. All industries have their share of uber-talented individuals with egos to big for their own good. It is refreshing to see someone take a stand and have them pay the price for their actions.

Now, will someody buy out TO's contract, most likely. He is wildly talented and some team may just find themselves in the playoffs because of his abilities. Its just that the second year may not be worth it.

Thankfully, I find it much more entertaining to think about our next DVC trip than to worry where he'll end up (as long as its on in my media market).

I have nothing to contribute to the nothing thread today. How sad. What does that say about me? But hey, I did play, like, 4 notes on a glockenspiel, and now I can list that under my instruments on the credits. Howdy folks... long time, no visit. Sometimes life gets in the way of living, I guess!

Catching up... make an extra batch of those post-loss muffins for my DH. He's feelin' the Eagle's claws as they rip out his heart this season....

Curious about how you guys feel about the TO thing. Not trying to rub salt in the wounds. If I were an Eagle's fan, I'd say good riddens. No neeed for prima donnas on a team.

I agree that it's a team sport, and TO needs to learn to play it that way... though I will also say that if being a prima donna was an offense against organized pro sports, there would be a LOT of unemployed players right now.

In our house, however, the TO thing carries an extra cruel burden in that both DH and my son had TO as part of their Fantasy Football teams (ds has TO in the "family" run Fantasy FB set up and DH has him in his FF through the guys at work). Seeing one of your top pts earners benched is harsh, LOL! I told them - "Now you know how his agent feels.." lol....

WELLL.... as for news around here, it's after 2 am and I just got back from work. I'm doing crazy reactions that take 4-6 hrs to prep and I went back in at 10 pm "just to run one more batch..." Next thing I knew, it was 2 am. Anyway... it's a good thing my DH knows how obsessed I get with my little science experiments, or he might think I was out "experimenting" with someone else, haha... (Yeah right - like I have the time, energy, or patience for THAT!)

Yawn. Probably ought to hit the hay, but it's so hard to go straight to bed after driving home in 20 degree chill. Maybe some decaf tea to sip... or a bad TV movie to watch... need to get sleepy before the rest of the crew wakes me up at 6 am! I'm taking a day of vacation THursday, but using it to work at my kids' school book fair, to attend a Thanksgiving feast at the school for the School Board members, and then attend a mtg at 3pm. THen I'm off to ToysR Us to return dd's toy that does NOT work, ship sister's and nephew's and BIl's and SIL's birthday gifts, then home to fix dinner, check homework, and get ready for a crazy Friday before my business trip on Monday and family arrival on Wednesday for TUrkey Day.

Hmmm... at least I THOUGHT I was taking a day of vacation tomorrow... now I'm not so sure! It all sure sounds like work to me...

Kristy - Not selfish, wonderful. I guess abandoned was a little harsh, but some may feel that way if they had no place to go.

OK, some may be gettign scary thought of what could have happened with the dulcimer, so perhaps I should explain. Feel free to skip unless really bored.

Growing up, my grandparents always went on and on and on about Dulcimer Fest weekend. It was supposed to be a real big deal, but we kids had absolutely NOOOO interest. I mean, it must be what old people do. WHy would we want that?

Well, one time my db, my dcousin (dc) and I went up to their place for the weekend. It was very exciting, as only another dc was ever taken without parent (the chosen one). So, very cool.

DC and DB were 4 years older than I, plus dc was a boy too. He was very good to me, though. I must have been 10 and they were 14. We were having a great time until the phone rang one morning after breakfast. "Oh, that'd be so nice, but the kids are really looking forward to going to the Dulcimer Fest." Needless to say, this was news to us.

So, we had the misfortune of going to the Dulcimer Fest. Well, when we got there, things started looking up. There was a carnival there too! So we all went and sat down for a bit and dc, the bravest of us all, asked if we could go check out the carnival. Well of course he and db could, but I was too young and grandma also did not think it was right for a girl to go off with 2 boys. ??? I know it's the old-fashioned way, but it was my brother. Mom let us go off by ourselves fairly often. Grrr... So, db and dc got to go play all evening and I sat their with G&G for like 3 or 4 hours listening to Dulcimer music. Not my idea of a good time. Scarred for life.

Who do I owe for this therapy time? ;)

Hello people! :bluebloun Happy almost Friday!

Gopherit - I have been having days like your vacation day today for a while now. The difference is that you are probably actually getting things accomplished! PJ and I have been running errands, going to have lunch with the boys, browsing through stores, etc. I do have a few Christmas gifts bought (probably more than I know because today is "write it all down" day before I goof and buy things for people I already have covered or I buy things for the boys when they already have enough!) She is a trooper and we used our new sling yesterday and she slept in there while I did three side by side stores and seemed just as happy as a clam. :) DisneyWorld - here we come!

AFMom - until this last posts from you about Thanksgiving, I didn't realize what the AF in your name was. DUH! I am a bit slow lol It is wonderful of you to take people in to share the holiday spirit! I get carried away baking sometimes at Christmas for a similar selfish reason - I love making cookies! Something about sharing them is even better.

Been working a bit today. I should be laying down napping right now. PJ is sleeping longer at night (she slept 6.5 hours last night and finally I had to wake her up because I was hurting and needed to feed her :S ) but getting up at 4:30, I have trouble going back to sleep and its catching up with me! Oh well, I will sleep later....18-20 years from now :P

Anyone done with their Christmas shopping yet?

Yes, very bad. Gives me the shudders. So, AFMom, while I appreciate the thought, and think you sound like a really great person, I'm passing on that. Maybe the triangle? Still trying to find a spot to play cowbell. Hmmmm...

Finished one song's string parts - only 6 to go! Is that cheery? Also finished a bass line. Still have a flute duet. Going to plan church music now, and then finish my stuff for my meeting which is so close to done, and then find and kick my bass player (what is it with bass players, anyway?), go to meeting, work on more string parts, and fall into a quiet frenzy of sobbing despair. But it will all be okay by midnight tomorrow. Or, if not okay, over. So that's something, hey?

That's okay, Jnrrt - I'm really not all that fond of Tamborine myself - for me it's 70's flashbacks of the beginning of the Partridge Family show - my sister adored it and of course - being little sis - I had to sit through it! I'll never understand how that show ever got on TV...... what were they thinking?!?!?!

Can I be you TW?

It's friday. I'm headed for quality time with the ILs and no dh buffer. Here's the biggest reason I'm not looking forward to it, though.

Last yr, SIL2 planned everything, with a little behind the scenes help from me. She was kind enough to leave my name out, though. I walked into the room and before I closed the door, MIL nags (Insert nagging voice), "(SIL2) says there's a mall here, but I didn't see any malls on the way here."

"No, the mall is about 3 miles off the highway, and it's dark. You would not have seen it", I relpied as I silently begged to go home.

The next morning we were all sitting around talking (my idea of teh whole point of the weekend. Again, MIL nags, "Are we just going to sit around all day or are we going to shop."

Yes, me "the aunt with an attitude" cannot keep quiet and reminder her, "The malls odn't even open for an hour and it will take about 10 minutes to get there, park and walk in." I believe I lost because the doors open before that and you can window shop.

Now, I always enjoy the time with my SILs, because I do not have much opportunity to see them and spend girl time with them. So, there will be highlights. I tend to come out of it dreading seing my MIL ever again, though. She drives me nuts during girls weeekend. COuld you send me some pixie dust loaded with patience so that I do not say anything my dh will regret?

I'd say he owes me, but I'm taking my dad to a WIngs game Wednesday night :goodvibes and leaving dh at my parents with my mom. Now, my mom loves my dh and he thinks a lot of her, but I don't think either one of them is thrilled with figuring out what to do with each other that night. Worst case is they will jus watch the game on tv. Not a big deal. I guess I should just keep looking forward to Wednesday night. Wings vs. Avs. Me and dad. What more could I want? Besides riding M:S together in Feb 04, I can't remeber having time for just the 2 of us in a very long time.

OK, wake up! I'm done now. ;)

Anybody home?

I fell asleep on couch with dd, woke up with a crick in neck and child sprawled across me. Took her to bed... and now here I sit wide awake!

Hate it when that happens.

Spent the last hour getting room ressies for DH and the boys for the spring Bristol race (tix are one of their xmas presents). Spent another half hour wandering aimlessly through various ticket master sites looking for hockey tix for DH and boys (Flyers / Penguins). No dice. Looked at Disney on Ice for DD - distinct possibility there! Boys can do Harlem Globetrotters instead of hockey.

Spent another half hour searching for, of all things, "ST".

Yes, ST. I've been googling it like crazy.

Explanation: My dd is a weeeeee bit OCD - tags, threads, anything on an item of clothing that can bug a kid, on her, DOES. And those "lines in the toes" on socks, as she calls them, will put her to tears. Ugh. So she insists on wearing one of only 2 pairs of socks (out of a drawer full). Mind you I'm not simple - I realize I could simply buy 53 thousand more pairs of these "lineless" socks. Except for one thing - I CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE I GOT THEM! I have looked EVERYWHERE in this God-and-sock forsaken town... can't find them. The only clue I have to go by: Each sock has, on the bottom, the stamped trademark "ST". Nothing more, just those 2 letters, in cap letters, "ST". Sadly - when I google it (regardless of how I phrase it) - I seem to get Catholilc school uniforms (computer thinks I'm abbreviating for "Saint"). If anyone out there can solve the ST mystery (and make our mornings in the gopher hole infinitely less stressful!) - this would be one eternally grateful gopher! :goodvibes

Meanwhile - I did at least find some tights at Wal-Mart the girl will tolerate. Given our recent change in weather (BRRRrrrrrrrr!), at least I have that to be thankful for... THat, and a pretty good end-of-year review with my former boss from my former position (sadly, I had to have 2 end-of-year reviews this year, since I switched jobs mid-year. Ugh!!) It torques my lugnut just a bit when that happens - one of those "Now that you're gone, I realize just what you did for us..." things that makes me, while comforted by the recognition, miffed that it comes so late and only in my absentia!

No big plans this wkend... DH is taking the week ahead off to do stuff around the house - yay! Too much to do - never enough time.

I have a business trip on Sunday/Monday - ugh.
Family pouring in on Wednesday.
Fry the bird on Thursday.
Hit Circuit City at 5 am on Friday.
Pass out on Saturday.

Speaking of passing out... yawn... think I might just be able to do that now.

G'nite all. :faint:

Hi all!

Gopherit, you're making me tired! Go to bed, woman!

Just checking in to say that I'm psyched - my session went so well that I had trouble sleeping, I was still "creating" all night. While I hate missing the sleep, I'm all jazzed (no pun intended) that it went so well. I'm taking my girls down to the studio today to pick up the rough mixes since they've never seen this one, and want to know where I've been. I hope the tracks live up to what I thought we were accomplishing yesterday.

And, by the way, it's so much better to record without vertigo. Go figure!

AFMom
11-20-2005, 01:33 AM
Recording with vertigo..... could make interesting music - though not what you're going for I'm thinking.... that would be more the Floyd on acid sort of music.
Gopherit - I have a friend with a son with exactly the same issues! She just turns most of his socks inside out and he seems ok with the seams that way! ST - not much to go by there.... I can't think of any other way to find it either!
Just saw Harry Potter - was pretty good! Too bad they have to cut so much out to make the movie short enough - but they did a good job with it. Kids loved it!

Just did it this morning. You go online to your account, go to manage awards, order rewards, check rewards card. Then, it's a minumum of $20 to start, but you can add any amount you want. You will get a credit card (basically) with that amount on it. Then, you just call MS and give them teh #. That's the same number you use if you want to use them at Disney shopping too.

The card does expire, though, so you want to keep an eye on that. (I think it's good for a fairly long time, but you just don't want to transfer points to it too close to its expiration.) I think you can track what you have left on your rewards card, and possibly expiration, online too.

I asked dh if he wanted to pay dues with it or use it at WDW. "What? And have to take 2 cards with me instead of just the KTTW?" lol.

So, what are your Turkey-day plans...

This year, for the first time since those days ages ago when DW and I were single, we are alone, just the four of us.

We really have yet to develop a Thanksgiving tradition. No immediate family anywhere nearby for either of us so we've either travelled to my folks, or had them with us. This year they are busy (eating their big meal at Tavern on the Green in NYC with my brother, but that's another thread...)

Anyway, just us four, no friends coming over, no driving out anywhere. DW and DD have made an apple pie and a cheese cake, and dug up grannies famous cranberry sauce recipe that we all love.

We've promised to go see Harry Potter tonight, plan some games tomorrow (the kids favs are Harry Potter Uno, Rummikub, Clue and Slamwich,) take the dog to the park and rent POTC again.

Unfortunately I need to be in the office on Friday, so T-day weekend will be less fun this year.

Anyway, looking forward to the solitude of family tomorrow.

Not that I like working oin Black Friday, but it is my annual clean the office day with no one around I can turn on the tunes, do some 'extra' surfing and throw stuff out all day.

Hope everyone had a great Turkey day. Our's was peaceful and quiet. Just us four, no guests, no driving.

Went to Harry Potter last night. Lots of fun though the story in these movies is getting too simplistic as time goes on. Much prefer the books.

Plans for the weekend anyone?

They do have to cut way too much out of the movies to make it fit in 2.5 hours, don't they? The plots are nowhere near as good. Fun - but anyone who hasn't read the book won't get much out of it. Oh well!

Related to nothing, and therefore suitable for this thread, I just wanted to say that I have returned, and I did not DIE!

Goodness gracious, it was horrendous out there. Carrie, I am glad to see that you have posted, since I know you were driving in that mess as well. We had four legs to our trip, which was, frankly, insanity anyway since we have three kids strapped into the car for fifteen gazillion years in order to make one 3 hour lunch and then sled for the day. Three of the four legs of the trip were awful. Two were downright scary. The shortest part of the trip was a little 118 mile jaunt that should have taken an hour and 45 minutes, but instead was 4 hours at 20-30 MPH in a complete whiteout, cars everywhere, just terrible. We were following my BIL and SIL, they were in a silver car, and once they got moving, they totally disappeared. Very eerie. I've lived in MI for several years, and driven there a ton, and I think this was officially the worst driving we've had there. Had we known it would be that bad, we wouldn't have gone, but when you're already 350 miles from home, where are you going to go?

The actual holiday was nice, but for many, many random reasons, not the least of which was the weather, I am glad to be HOME!

And so I rejoice by saying, "BLIMP"!

Had my parents fix me a plate for the raod and stopped at their house for a much-needed potty stop and to change vehicles then we were off. Arrived downtown 4 hours and 20 minutes after leaving work. However, all was melting by the time we left the game.

Friday night was REALLY slick. I found that out prior to getting in the car as I fell on my knees in the parking lot. NOthing but my pride injured too badly.

Great Hoiday overall and even time with the ILs was better than expected. Stilln ot ready to be back, but it's a dungeon day, so I must be off.

*chanting* I will not stress this holiday season...I will not stress this holiday season

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *running around in circles screaming and pulling my hair* ok - maybe just a little stressing!!!

I haven't been able to come up with a single stinking gift for hubby for this holiday season! His birthday is also the weekend we get back from WDW (home on Friday - birthday on Sat) so I HAVE to get his gift this week.

I really want to get him another piece by Joe Belt. He does all the artwork that hangs in Doak Campbell Stadium (FSU), mostly specalizing in depictions of native Americans. I love his work and the one piece we have is signed by Bobby Bowden - which hubby loved! Here is the trick - it will run me WAY over budget and I would fuss at him if he bought something like that for me right now. He really has been so great this year (even with the no job thing for a while). *sigh* Back and forth - back and forth!!! argh!

Maybe this time I should get one of his "non-FSU" prints. They are very reasonably priced and very nice as well. http://www.joebeltstudio.com/index.html <---his non-scholastic work

http://secure.cade-assoc.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=12&Product_ID=8856&CATID=21&DETAIL=1 <---the limited ed print we currently have

Some options of FSU stuff:

http://secure.cade-assoc.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=12&Product_ID=9014&CATID=21&DETAIL=1

http://secure.cade-assoc.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=12&Product_ID=9037&CATID=21&DETAIL=1 <--the one I would want - but its WAY over the gift limit even with it being both birthday and Christmas

I like the watch idea (for me really :P ). Also the shopping at WDW.

I have really been thinking about the XM radio thing. It seems to be a hot ticket item and I could get him his own receiver. The trick there is its the gift that keeps on charging (the monthly fee), so I need to check into the pricing and make sure I am not buying a bigger fish than I plan.

*still looking at those prints* argh! Maybe next year. :)

lol @ the ones closest to us being the hardest to shop for! I am glad I am not alone in this area.

I haven't given them as gifts yet to see how they hold up, but so far so good with mine and I wear it every day. I would give them a shot next time they offer them. :)

If DH loves music as well as mine does, he will thank you for it on a regular basis:doublekis You could make it a joint gift for birthday and Christmas. They have kits where you can set it up in his car and then buy a home kit also. The same monthly fee will allow him to use the receiver in both places! I am desparetely in need of gift ideas for dh. I want to give him a Pal Mickey, but I'm pretty sure that would be more for me. Really got to watch that.

XM is really cool satellite radio that you have to have the reciever and a subscription (about $10-$15 a month I think). There are all kinds of recievers - all different prices. The stations play EVERYTHING!!!!! Talk, news, classical, jazz, pop, I mean, everything, no commercials. It really is pretty neat stuff!

I have nothing else of nothingness to report, except that I was writing a song in my head last night, and I always seem to do this at really inconvenient times, when I can't do anything to remember it (once I wrote out a theme on paper towels in the bathroom during a meeting I was supposed to be attending so I wouldn't lose it), and I never learn. Last night I just figured out the basic note pattern and that it was in 4-4 time and thought that would be enough. Well, today it was gone. Pouff. Couldn't get it back at all. I had something, but it was triple. Driving me crazy all day, and then I was driving home after choir, and it just popped back in my head. I love that! I thought it was gone for good. So now, I'm going to WRITE IT DOWN!

I don't know why I think I'll remember these things. I can't remember what I'm supposed to get at the store without a list. I can't remember who's supposed to be where without a palm. jnrrt - No dh in their sound mind would ever get sucked into that trap. I do have a rather brainless (when it comes to his dw) co-workerm though,m that would fall right in!

Trip report: "Caaaaarrrrriiieeeeee... Oh Caaaaaaaaaaarrrriiieeeeeeee!!

So I've been writing this song all morning, and it shaping up! I think I'm going to like it, and it has an African-sounding choir and percussion section, so that'll be cool. Except that now I have to find an African choir and percussion. Details, details.

Hmmm - I would say it is because we are so dang clever and our wit simply baffles some, but that couldn't be further away from the truth. :beaniepro

Sometimes nothing is baffling. It amazes me how much time nothing can take up of my life. How sometimes nothing makes me smile. It is the most astonishing how I feel like nothing is home and how nothing seems to miss me when I am gone.

Amazing that nothing is so powerful. :)

Well, here's something, not really nothing, but...

There we are peacefully stringing some sparkly, fossil-fuel sucking, manufactured-by-slave-labor, electric lights on the freshly slaughtered Big Bang/Darwin tree when the AKC-paperless mongrel starts yapping her head off. I haven't heard such a racket since Harriet Myers was nominated!

Anyway, after we quiet that thing down we start hearing some scratching in the walls.

Hmm, pollsters trying to get in for one last response to the latest speach? Economically disadvantged urban dwellers who's LIHEAP funds were slashed looking for a warm place to sleep?

Nope! We got a squirrel in the house! Must have left the outside storage closet door open (again :hammer: ).

Something has taking advantage of our generous open-door, don't ask, don't tell policy!

So, what to do? Start crawling their the attic's hinterlands looking for rodents of mass destruction? Wait until morning and build a coalition of willing contractors? Offer amnesty in exchange for cleaning the gutters while its up there (goodness knows gutter-cleaning is not a job I'd want to do.)? Or just start blasting away with rat poison in the hopes of routing out the evil doer?

Well, this decision, like so many others, must be mulled over a locally owned and operated freshly brewed refreshment while I gather enough reliable intel.

I'll keep you posted.

(P.S. Please be patient with me. I'm practicing in anticipation of spending Saturday afternoon with my West Point-grad brother and his friends at the Army-Navy game.)

oohhh - completed trip report - now it seems that nothing might take up my lunch hour as well! Woot!

I just made it through an audit from the State of GA unemployment department with flying colors! One or two more things to do before heading to DA WORLD on Sunday morning. Thursday's ROCK!!!

LMBO TW1!!!! I would go for the gutter option. I had hubby up on the roof with the blower on Saturday before I would let him hang any lights. He used it to blow the excess pine needles off and to blast out the gutters (we have those gutter guard thingies, but I swear the only thing they are good for is trapping things ON your roof - which is ever so good for the roof itself - having wet pine needles sitting there for weeks on end)

Whatever you do - make the said tenant at will SIGN A CONTRACT! Small rodent like creatures are NOT to be trusted to maintain their end of the deal without a paw-print signed or gnawed contract around for back-up! Sneaky lil buggars!!!

It could be because it often resembles a bunch of people in a room, all shouting their own thing, assuming others are listening too. But, it's really about whatever nothing you feel like discussing, and also, we take turns (or at least the program makes it look like it).

Someday - maybe it won't only be satellites brodcasting, maybe the signal will be sent by pretty colored.....

Mornin' all...

I think I am going to break down and buy this for myself. I get so tired of the same CDs and Radio on my #$%@ 1 hr commute each way. NPR some mornings at 0430 is as exciting as watching grass grow.

I need to find a job closer. There are nursing jobs on this side of the world....
MMNnn...dilema....what would ya'll think of telling a prospective boss in a interview that you are a DVC member and you have trips lined up for the next 12 months and you will be happy to take the position if you can have such and such weeks off. Maybe a 45 min presentation of how important 11 month windows are/how scary 7 month windows are???? :beaniepro

Man, Rozzie, nurses here can write their own ticket. We're having a shortage. I would think you could find something closer, and if it's anything like here, they would nod solemnly during your presentation, and say, "Hmm, yes, I see your point. So we can assume that you would be less stressed if we simply purchased the Beach Club for you in its entirety? Done! When can you start?"

my mom said she was going to get some books on tape for me, and asked for suggestions. Gosh I blanked. I think I mumbled "1776" or something. Wow, that'll keep my eyes open. :hammer:

I have actually done that before Rozzie - the "here is my vacation" requirements during an interview. I was very upfront and explained that they are prepaid and a family "must" for me and VERY VERY important to my mental well being. I also explain that I am not expecting to be paid but simply need the time off without concerns of issues with my boss. Hubby also got a new job 3 months ago and we are fixing to go on vacation next week and it was the same thing - I got him to tell them BEFORE he was hired that we had this vacation planned for this week, prepaid - blah blah blah and its not a problem (of course, the other guy that does what hubby does getting fired last week has made things a bit tense...but since they promised him no problem, he still gets to go!) I think if they understand about things like this then they get lots of points for being the type of company you want to work for. If they don't understand family and vacations, etc - then they probably wont be understanding about much and you wouldn't want to work there anyway.

I also agree with JNRRT - Nurses here are writing their own tickets. They are even bringing them in with huge bonuses from other areas for set periods of time just to have staffing coverages.

I have a long nasty drive myself so I can relate. I also have a great job where they love me and respect that my kids/family is VERY important so I wouldn't leave unless I really had to. Hard to weigh in those kinds of factors though when you are on your 3rd repeat of the same CD for the week since there is NOTHING on the radio. Thank goodness its Christmas time! New songs! Woohoo!

Actually, a friend of mine just stayed in a studio last week and showed me a picture from her balcony -- it was of Epcot. She said you could see the fireworks at night, too.

you got it! :) I am actually going to leave you in charge, if that's ok, as I can't be far from my Saratoga Lager!

We really live in a area where the shortage is not so hard pressed, so they have the upper hand still. Actually Pensacola was just named the worst city for RN salaries, the lowest in the nation. I don't think the Chamber of Commerce will make that a part of their marketing campaign. There is one hospital I have my eye on, 20 min away, and can you believe they have no openings in the 3 departments I have experience for? No sign on bonus either, as everyone wants to work there. Hospitals in south Florida and else where are begging and crying and offering bonuses that blow me away. So for now, me's think I'll stay where I can get my DVC fix. One hospital told me that I couldn't have time off for a year. Sorry no can do. I am way too spoiled where I am.

llovell--you are my hero! very good point about the company you work for. Once you find a place that honors your commitment to your family, it is hard to leave. Sounds like you work for a great company.

Just got back from the eye doctor - script really hasn't changed, but I have let my sunglasses at my grandparents and that made me decide it was REALLY time to get my eyes checked. PJ was a crying mess for a bit, but the doc was fantastic! He had time so he just let us sit for a bit and she calmed down enough for the eye exam. However, I kept giggling the entire time
