Sending more good vibes for Inky!!! I hope the news about her leg continues to get better and there is no more bad news to follow :dog:

Umm....I don't see Kristy here today!! I hope she is resting and getting healthy and not doing day care today :drillserg Glad to hear that you caught the open box quickly and were able to respond fast for the dog & kitty! I can totally see my own 2 dumb cats doing something like that. It always amazes me the way they get into stuff you never would have dreamed would interest them! Hope they are both doing on the vitamins. **Editted: I see Kristy is taking the day off! But I am sorry to see the boys are sick too now! Hope you all recover quickly :goodvibes

CB, I hope you are sleeping today too! Sounds like a tough night for you and Hannah.

Gpher, love the seagull analogy! We have those dern birds in our backyard all the time and it's all true...so your supervisor must be a "winner" :hahahaha:

Made a minor faux pas yesterday at DS's school :Paranoid: They have an annual Author's Breakfast for the kids that complete a special reading program over the summer and their families before school. Just bagels, juice, coffee & tea but they get a certificate and they get to meet a children's book writer (The guy yesterday was the one who writes the Scooby Doo books for the easy reader series) The coffee machine and tea were not working, it was early, parents were a tad cranky about having no caffeine that early in the AM....my tea-deprived self as well. When the water for tea was finally ready, I got one and another mom commented about how early it was. I told her "Why couldn't they make it a Author's Dinner instead??? This is too darn early!" She laughed and agreed. Next thing I know, time for certificates and of course the mom I spoke to is introduced as the one that organizes the whole thing! :headbrick I felt so bad! I know it's alot of work and the kids do love it.

Aww Stimpy - she probably does agree and the school doesn't give her the option of a dinner! It funny - even when you're in charge of something (ummmm... like Cub Scouts:scratchch ) how little say you have in how things come together. Can be rather frustrating actually - and I'm sure she'd love to vent with you, but can't! Don't feel bad!

Well - we've all showered and dressed. That's about as much accomplishment as I can handle right now. So here I am - back again. The phone is ringing off the hook - so I figure I might as well be in here where I can do Nothing while I answer it. :slyasafox

I am actually feeling better today - still sick - but better than yesterday! Hopefully I won't go downhill as the day gets on. I tend to always feel better in the morning. DS's are ok - ds10 - I don't think he's actually sick, just a little runny nose.... DS8 is definately ill - good thing his soccer game for tonight was canceled already. He has until Sat to heal for soccer. He has tennis tomorrow - we'll see how he's feeling.

Kristy - Turn that ringer off!

Kimberly - If I understood correctly, the organizer was the woman who said it was too early. Your comment was fine.

OK, running to hide in the closet. One of those days.:headbrick

Just thought I would pop in to nothingness for a few minutes. Been crazy around here, and I'm not sure when it is going to be any better. Took the girls to school this morning, ran by Subway to get subs for the preschool kids snack. It wasn't my turn, but the Mother that was in charge has had a sick kid for a month, so I filled in. Came home, dressed Addison and back out to drop her off to preschool. Flew by curves and worked out, then back home to change clothes. Got to Hollands school about 10:30, trying to finish up the Halloween t-shirts for her class. We painted the front yesterday, I wrote the names on the back today, and then tomorrow we will stamp the back of them. Of course, just my luck, a new kid registered for school today!:headbrick I didn't dye any extra orange t-shirts, so the teacher said she would go out tonight and get a shirt for the kid. I'm hoping that Michaels has some of their already orange t-shirts left. I guess we'll have to do both sides of this kids shirt tomorrow. After t-shirt decorating, I ran by the grocery store to pick up one med. pumpkin, flowers, a 12 pack of coke, and some home baked cookies (no time for home baked, so I just bought the ones that looked homebaked). All things that DD10 was supposed to drag to school tomorrow for their fall festival tomorrow night. Not sure how a 10 year old is supposed to carry all that plus their backpack and jacket!:scratchch Dropped those off at her class, only to be asked if there was anyway that I could come in the morning to help carve these pumpkins??? "Sure, NO PROBLEM!" Did I mention that I still have not started sewing the colonial dress yet..... Oh well, who needs sleep? I came home long enough to gather clothes for this evening for each kid, and of course to whine to you folks(always time for that). I've got to go pick the girls up from school in a few minutes. Then we go to gymnastics, then a soccer game (you know how much I am looking forward to the slaughter), and then to teach my Bible class at 7:00. :faint: I guess we'll be having chickfila drive thru for supper.

Roz- I hope inky is doing better today.

Kristy- glad you slept in. Keep up the good work on your Nothing boardmember job.

CB- Take some extra tylenol PM and then maybe you won't hear the critters!:hahahaha: If that doesn't work, maybe Rozzie has some left over sleep aids from the hospital.

Where's Bavaria? I hope she isn't stuck somewhere without internet!:jawdroppi

Erin - repeat after me.... it'll be our new mantra

"no, no, no, no, no, no, no,no"

Yes - that's right, just keep saying it. Now remember to repeat that mantra everytime you walk into one of your daughter's classes.
You may get some funny looks at first - but sometimes looking crazy and derranged can be an even better deterent than the word no.

Mornin' all.

I am woefully disappointed in my coffee creamer this morning. Indulged on a bottle of something called "Chocolate Caramel" and frankly, it's more caramel than choc. I was robbed. About ready to just melt a Hershey bar in there to get my fix. Except I'm not especially fond of Hershey bars (exception: those "Special Darks" are good. I guess I'm more of a dark chocolate gopher.)

And I really shouldn't be eating the chocolate at all! I had promised myself I'd try to eat healthy for the next 3 months. (NOTE: I hate the word "diet" - it just reeks of punishment. Saying you're going to "eat healthy" makes it sound like you like yourself well enough to preserve yourself for posterity, sort of a "treat". Saying you're going on a diet just screams at me, "Help me, I'm outta control, and given the opportunity, I would stuff myself senseless til I choked on a final, fatal, fat-laden bonbon." Me no like diet.) Trouble is, I made that "eat healthy" promise to myself 2 months ago. And here I sit, still wallowing in the mist of inactivity on that plan. Maybe I need to borrow Kristy's book and cook for a month.... but eat it over the next THREE months, LOL. I know what you mean about the family deserving a home cooked meal.... seems like we're just constantly runnin' and gunnin' and never get a chance for that. At work I either don't have time to eat at all, or I'm scarfing down the first thing I see (usually not good for me). This work group I'm in is a real dine-out bunch, too, which doesn't help. I need a side order of will-power, and an extra 3 hours per day for food prep and excercise. Can anybody help out with that, LOL?

One of my colleagues called a supervisor a "seagull" yesterday... said "he just flies in, squawks and flaps and poops all over you... and then he just flies away again." I have been musing over this analogy all day, LOL. :hahahaha: I think I know a lot of "seagulls"!

(...although he forgot to add that they say, "Mine!" a LOT.... ;) )

Special dark is the "healthy" chocolate, gopher! You can 'go for it' lol, if its dark :D

I am going to take a risk and share with y'all that I have lost 14 pounds over the last ten weeks :holymoly: I know if I heard that a few months back I would be like how ??! Anyway, I joined a free health site called Sparkpeople.com and I learned how to eat the right amounts of healthy food!! Lo and behold, I started losing finally. Considering how the extra weight has been hurting my joints, I am very grateful to have finally figured this out :tilt: I have a good bit more to lose but now I feel I can do it...

I sure was afraid you were going to come down with pneumonia, Kristy!! Please take care of yourself :whistlebl

Still praying for Laura's dad's continued improvement and for Inky too :grouphug:

just a quick late night pop in to tell Kristy she did a EXCELLENT job of being chairperson on the Nothing board today!! I am so proud of you!! How are your four legged babies? Hope your son feels better too.

Next up, Erin. Now young lady, repeat after me....NO! NO! NO! That schedule of yours is crazzzzzzy talk. Think the Gulf Coast Gals are going to have to havea lazy spa day or something.

LMBO at the "ghost of Tim Horton" comment from Gopher. Plus the seagull comment, which I can now have a new adjective to describe Dr's rounds!

I told work tonight that I was interviewing for a postition, and my new manager acted exactly like I thought she would. Very gruff and cold shoulderish. Oh well had to say something. I don't like sneaking around and not being totally upfront with people.

Inky Update: Same swelling. They are going to do a xray tomorrow, like a body scan, and see if they can see any metastis. <----did I even spell that right, loong day. I have hair appt in the morning, and then Mr Roz and I are going to ride over and see her. I don't know to be overwhelmed with awe, or extremely worried, as the vet said he was off tomorrow, but that he was coming up on his day off to see her.:(

CB, tell Hannah to be CAREFUL! Lord knows, we don't need another Nothinger mascot on the mend!:worried:

Someoen read, she thinks, in runners world that for every pound you lose, you take 25 pounds of pressure off oyur joints while running and about 10 pounds while walking. You are doing your body a whole heap of good!!! Way to go!!

Lisa, great job on the weight loss!

Why is it that I'm always exhausted by the end of the day, never seem to have enough time to get anything done, have a to-do list a mile long and then come into the closet and feel like a lazy bum?? Kristy, Erin & Gopher, you ladies are amazing! But I really wish you would take some time off....if not for yourselves, do it for me ;)

Well, that certainly explains why the 2 flights of stairs to my office are such a pain... I'm carrying about 200 lbs too much force with each step I take!! And my kids WONDER why I don't run anymore, LOL.... (or at least, not for excercise.)

Well, trying to use up that chocolate caramel creamer - to "up" the chocolate flavor, I brewed some Godiva chocolate raspberry truffle coffee - full carafe, help yo'sef.

Let my fingers do some xmas browsing last night. All the xmas Wish Books have been rolling into our mailbox lately, and the kids last night were placing their little "tags" (the ones that come with the ToysRUs book) EVERYWHERE. Our dd6 is hilarious - she must have circled everything. Ds11 looked through a book after she had hit it already and said, "Dream On, sister!" (His exact words!) She's going to have to really pare down that wish list, or she's in for major disappointment! THis year, I told DH I would rather get the kids a FEW really NICE things they REALLY want rahter than a house full o' crap. Besides - his folks more than fulfill that latter role (I think they spend more on xmas than we do, despite our repeated requests to not buy more "stuff" but try to get gifts that don't take up space or batteries - like tickets to a sporting event or play or zoo, magazine (or LEGO club, etc.) subscriptions, etc. Well, DS11 wants an ipod, and ds10 wants a PSP. DH was like, No way Jose, but I said, you know, if that's the one thing, on the top of their list, that they want, let's get them that, and then maybe make the process of getting it more of a "gift", for example, wrap it up like a scavenger hunt or something that they have to "find". Make the gift more than just a "quick open". My mom used to do that with us - one year, all four of us kids were running all over the house to find our one "big" gift. We do this at Easter (each child gets a plastic egg on his/her pillow, which contains a clue inside. They follow the clues, finding more eggs as they go - each color-coded to each child - like dd's are pink, ds10's are blue, etc. until they finally find their baskets.) Last year we tried to do something fun with the boys - we wrapped up their "choice" gifts (which were some gamcube games - fairly small in size, though high in price). We wrapped them, then put them in successively bigger boxes, then topped it all off within the biggest box by covering up the "gift" boxes with newspaper and then a whole set of Harry Potter and Magic Treehouse books on top of that - they opened the box and were like - okaaaaay, Mom gave us a whole HUGE box of BOOKS? DS10 told his g'parents about it and CLAIMED "it was SO annoying!" but the smile on his face when he described it said otherwise. We also "wrap" the room every year, just for fun. The tree is in our living room, which is only accessible through one entry point, whih is an opening roughly 6' wide and 8' tall. That opening gets "wrapped" over night (SUPPOSEDLY by "Santa"). Now, I'm sure my kids know who does the wrapping, but they all just don't let on that they know because they LOVE to "burst" through the paper xmas morning! It makes for a VERY late night for Mom (especially if I accidentally wrap the cat in the room - which I have done twice in the past 11 years - not good.) Tedious, but it's worth it for their fun. PLus - it keeps them OUT of the room 'til we're ready (i.e., cameras in hand, all kids present and accounted for, etc.)

I would LOVE to take them back to WDW for a xmas event someday. We did the week before/ including xmas with my whole family back in 1998, but nowadays, the kids are so darn busy, and school doesn't let out until practically xmas eve, and all three kids LOVE being in the school xmas play. WHich reminds me - DS11 and DS10 are each trying out for some HIGHLY sought-after play parts. They were helping each other learn their lines last night - one of those rare moments of comraderie, LOL - too precious. Send them a little pixie dust if ya think of it today...and if one gets his part and the other doesn't, send some PD to me, as I try to help the other boy cope with his disappointment...

Well, gotta scurry off. LATER!

Good luck to the Gopherings! Loved your idea on wrapping the door. I bet the looks on their faces is priceless. :blueflowe

Congrats Lisa on the weight loss. Wish I had the willpower to do what you've been doing. IF I could just lose 20 lbs, but I think Gopher summed it up great in a post a few back. It is way psychological for me. I think sometimes the only way I could ever lose weight would be to have my jaw wired shut. :zipit: Then, I would only be a jawcutter away from a Mexican meal. Very proud of you Lisa!

Stimpy, don't kid yo self. If you wanna see lazy bum, check out my webcam. (well, it'd be kinda hard since I don't have one, but if I had one, believe me, lazybum you would see!) Well, add me to the hair appt mix up group. Went today, and they had me done with a strange girl, not my girl. Not that I really just loooove my girl, but I have been training her to do my hair for a year now, and just finally it's looking okay after she does it. New fresh meat? Uh, no thanks. Gopher- sometimes your like a mirror. The whole inlaw thing Christmas present thing is a huge issue for us. I flat had to tell mine, no more toys. If it isn't something that has a useful purpose, DO NOT BUY IT. I know they think that I'm just mean, but I just couldn't take it any more. For the first five Christmas' that we had kids, I know they spent twice as much as we did on our kids. Some of these were big toys that took up major floor space. Of course, I don't mind when they choose to spend on me!:ROTFL: Best wishes for the boys tryouts today. I hope they both either get the parts or both don't. I'll be hoping that you're not dealing with one happy soul, and one upset and disappointed.

Told her our # and she was shocked! She almost jumped up as she added "REALLY??? WOW, that's great! Good for you!!" I almost started laughing b/c I knew she was implying that no one from our Pack ever participates in anything.

I have a big vent about our pack that I'm dying to get out of my system but I can't afford to add that much $$$ to the vent jar right now :hahahaha:

I had to take DD to the nail place again. :crymeariv Yes, I had to! Big night out Saturday and this was the only chance I could get there. Anyway, the women that work there LOVE DD. Really nice girls but they spoil her rotten! They are all Korean and love her big blue eyes, love how small she is and basically ooh and ahh over her like a puppy dog. She now has orange nails with halloween graphics on them and is walking around like a true Princess. This is where the Korean part comes in...the owner's DH gave her a full size Hershey bar! Which the girls promptly opened and let her have at it while my nails were wet and I couldn't take it away. Since none of them speak English very well, my saying no, she hasn't had lunch yet etc just wasn't getting through (Although I have my suspicions that they knew what I was saying and wanted to let her have it anyway  ) DD keeps batting her long eyelashes at them and gives me the evil smile....the one that says HAHA mommy, these ladies know how to treat me and there is nothing you can do about it :headbrick Next time I have to get a manicure and pedicure, I'll take her too....we'll see how cute they find her after an hour there :hahahaha:

Snow report update:
My car is at the repair shop. IF it was a rat problem, covered w/250 deductible.
If it's something else....oh oh!
The tow cost $170 for less than 1/2 mile....he said it was cuz he had to shovel. Oh cut me a break.

My 1/4 mile driveway is only a wee bit shoveled by the 3 car garage out about 6 ft.
And in the tire track marks all the way down from where girlfriend drove her Subaru (so she can hopefully get back up~)

the interstate was closed most of the day, but my little town looked like it was doing allright. The snow is pretty heavy, so shoveling has replaced my exercise for the day~

Prayers and WIshes for our Inky....glad her spirits were up and that you had a nice visit~

I boarded up the stairway to my deck where the deer and the raccoony roam...unless they can scale a 4foot wall, I think they'll find new digs~

I remember the 'running around' energy it took to raise just ONE kid....can't believe how you guys manage to deal with more than one's activities~ Must be the chocolate!

THen you use Sharpie markers to put "dots" at the center, or all around, whatever. THen you give the kids an eye dropper and a bottle of rubbing alcohol. The alcohol will allow the ink to "travel" (kinda like chromatography). We made some cool t-shirts once by using plastic cups in several places on the shirt... I am imagining you could easily do a cool hidden mickey with 3 appropriately sized circles, LOL. It's a lot of fun.

Well, better get my nose to the grindstone. Gotta take my car in for some odds and ends today (new tail light, etc) and kids want to go to a Halloween party tonight... tomorrow I have a boy coming over to work with DS10 on his science project, and he's bringing his mom. My house is a wreck - gotta clean this burrow sometime!

Coffee's on.... made more of yesterday's flavor (Godiva Chocolate Raspberry truffle.) Help yourself. Kripy Kremes are on the counter.

TW1- I was just thinking about your DW last night wondering how the job search was going. I hope the interview goes well!

Nasty here today in South Alabama(tornado watch). Got the kids to school and decided to ditch Curves today so that I can get some more work done on Briley's dress. I did get it started yesterday, hopefully I can almost finish it this morning. I won't be able to hem it until she trys it on after school.

Gopher- when will we know about the play? The tie dye shirts sound fun! I'll keep that one in the back of my brain.

Roz- hoping for some good inky news today.

Carrie- any more word from Laura lately? Had her on my mind too. Hope things are continuing to improve.

Ooops, forgot to mention the House of Doom i stepped into last night. I called home at 4 pm to talk to the boys and see how the play try-outs went. Well, DS11 would hardly say ANYTHING other than that he "blew it and [he] stinks." It seems he somehow got to the solo part and messed up his words or something? From what DH and i have been able to piece together, he was forced to go first (by virtue of his last name alphabetically) and I guess the pressure got to him. He fares much better when allowed to survey his competition, LOL. Don't we all. Anyway - he was VERY SOUR ALL NIGHT LONG. We don't know the results of the try-outs, but I would wager a guess that he was made to sit through everyone else's try out, and while they haven't yet announce who got what, I think he already decided in his head who will likely get the part. All I can think is that if he's this torn up and flustered during try-outs, I can't imagine the angst he would feel up on stage. Perhaps it's for the best. Naturally I won't tell HIM that. I can't tell him anything right now - he puts up the hand and makes it clearly known the topic is NOT for discussion. In fact, when DS10 then got on the phone to tell me how HIS try-out went (which according to him was quite favorable), supposedly DS11 had gotten off the phone but oddly enough - whenever DS10 would try to say something about how he did - the phone would BLEEP... as if SOMEONE were pressing a button. THe grapes were REALLY SOUR last night. THis a.m. DS11 seemed much more at ease... but once the parts get announced and practice starts, he had better not be grousing. One thing we try REALLY HARD to impress on our kids - it's ok to be disappointed, but NO POOR SPORTSMANSHIP. Unfortunately, if DS11 put as much drama into stage acting as he does his everyday life disappointments, he'd win an Oscar for sure. One thing that might have hurt both boys - they memorized their scripts. Seemed like the thing to do, since it was a try-out. HOWEVER... from what DS10 told me, very few of the other kids did this - they just read straight from the sheets. I think if DS11 had done this, he wouldn't have flubbed his song. So which matters more - knowing your lines or being able to ad-lib while reading a script? I would guess you need to be able to do both. The bad thing about all this is that because the boys tried out for fairly big parts and the try-outs were all in the same day, the competition (about 4 boys tried out for each of the parts) will invariably leave a bunch of capable kids with stage hand jobs, lol, as now all the speaking parts are assigned. Bummer. Well, another way to look at this - if they don't get the part, they are in the majority. 5 kids tried out for the part DS11 wanted - so there will be four of them commiserating into their chocolate milk. I think what bothers DS about it - those boys are all 5th graders, and this was, in his mind, his "last chance" as a sixth grader to nab a big part. He seems to forget that he nabbed a choice part last year out from under a 6th grader (and coincidentally, 2 of the same then-4th graders who tried out again for the part with him this year). Funny how that whole selective memory thing works, huh.... he doesn't seem to recall snagging the part away from them!

Thank Buddha and Mohammed too, I really need thanks that it's Friday. What a week!

Care to thank Oprah Winfrey and Tom Cruise while you're at it? (Sorry - your line just reminded me a little too much of "Talladega Nights", LOL)

Like you, I'll take an intercession any which-way I can get one!

And after last night's WONDERFUL trouncing of the Clemson Tigers by the Va Tech Hokies, our house is very very thankful indeed!!! :woohoo:  DH reallllly needed that, after the LOVELY season his other fave teams have had (such as those darn philly eagles). :sosad:

I meant to see Talladega Nights but missed it. When its out on video is it kid friendly? Looks like we'll be renting Cars firs though, only DS saw it and DD and I are curious.

Sorry about the try-outs Gopher! Hope the boys are ok.

Well, if anyone has any spare pixie dust, can you send a bit this way for a friend? One of DH's co-workers who is also one of our good friends is in the hospital....thanks to someone driving a car after taking sleeping meds slammed head on into his police car! Dh spent most of last night in the hospital and sat with DF's wife for awhile (never the knock on the door you want to get in the middle of the night! But thankfully, it could have been much worse news). DH says he's really banged up pretty badly but should be ok eventually. (Umm, great! That's what they told the now 30-ish year old widow with 3 young kids last time an officer was in a bad accident!) So, if you can spare any good vibes for this family, they have 4 DD's all under the age of 7, I'd appreciate it!

The family was supposed to going on the Disney cruise next Saturday and I don't think they had the insurance...hope DCL can help them out anyway!

Anyway, I'm off to go call the wife now and see how she's doing. :(

Errrr. Gopher. Sorry about the tryouts, poor guys. I admire them so much for trying. When I was that age, I was so unsociable I am sure I would have rather died than get on a stage, much less get on a stage and speak a memorized part. :Paranoid:

Well today's Inky :dog: update: The vet said he couldn't see any evidence of cancer in her body from the full scan. I might be bringing her home tomorrow. Then taking her back to the canine hospital while I'm down at WDW next week. Thought the best place for her to be is the hospital. With Mr Roz and his 14 hour days, I just think I would never rest wondering if she was okay at home all alone each day.

Rozzie...sounds like some good news for Inky!!:kickingco I'm sure she'll be looking forward to all the hugs and kisses at home today :goodvibes

Erin, how's the dress coming along? Hope you get to post some pics!!

Ok, I guess the pixie dust worked LOL. Our friend is really banged up but he got very lucky! Nothing broken, appears to be no internal injuries and he was able to go home last night. Thank goodness for the airbags and seatbelts! I talked to his wife yesterday and she said he was just really really sore and they are still planning on the cruise (And NO I was not the one to bring it up :hahahaha: ) DH was the first at the scene. DF was pulling someone over, as she pulled over and he was about to pull over behind her, the guy came straight at him and hit him head on on the drivers side...totally missing the car he was pulling over. (The girl he pulled over stayed there. I thought it was kind of funny when she said she didn't know why he as pulling her over and if she was still getting a ticket :hahahaha: ) Anyway, thanks for the pixie dust!!!!

Rainy, windy, cold, stinky day today! And we have to go into the city tonight to meet DH's board friends :crymeariv He was all excited b/c they are planning on doing a "pub crawl" before the big dinner out....hmmm...did I mention rainy, windy, cold???? 3 conditions you really try to avoid when walking around NYC??? :blech: Yep...deposting my $20 now! Oh Roz, I'm so happy for you and Inky (and Mr. Roz) What great news!
But now you face a person's worst nightmare...taking your MOTHER to DisneyWorld. I'm still not sure why you want to put yourself through this, but perhaps Disney has a special dream just for you!

Gopherit....although we hurt for our children's disappointments, I think it actually makes them stronger. I can think of two things where my daughter failed the first time: she didn't make it into a competitive dance number; yet she went on to be the studios prima dancer and later had national recognition. She had been placed a year ahead in school and had already taken both algebra and geometry by 9th grade when she transferred to another schoo.. So that school placed here in algebra2STRig...a college level class for math nerds. She had no idea what was going on in that class, tho the teacher loved her (the only girl , and such a pretty one! in the class)....Ended up taking basic algebra over (the first time she had just memorized and never understood a thing.) BUT, the next year, she took that algebra2STrig class , and made an A. The short of it is that she learned so much from these 'disaappointments' that it made her a much stronger, smarter person, and a sweeter one too, I think. But oh, my heart hurt for her, as I'm sure your's does too!)

Stimpy...what a good friend you are! Glad he is ok; what a scary event.
I've been invited on a poker pub crawl...wondering much the same thing as you are; not quite sure if I'm up to it!

Erin, are we going to see photos of that dress?

Wow - what a relief for your friend! Car accidents scare the crud out of me. We seem to pass 2 or so a day out here on HWY 98. Scary people.
Yay Inky! I think your making a good call at having her at the hospital during your trip. She needs a lot of monitoring still. Sounds like she may be on the mend finally, though. It really is a long road.
So - DS8 had to get 3 stitches yesterday:headbrick . He was cleaning his room and found a screwdriver in there (I have no idea....:scratchch ), was walking down the hallway and tripped while carrying it. It sliced into his upper eyelid pretty deep. I was freaked out (internally only-kept my cool on the outside). I can't believe how close he came to a major injury with that thing. I made sure to scare him a bit after we got done with the stitches. This really was a situation where he could have poked his eye out:faint: !!! Arg.
Funny though - he is a zombie this year for Haloween and we had a party at DH's squadron last night - his stitches made his made-up face look very authentic!
Well - just a soccer game in about 2 hours today. I'm going to try to catch up and make the house livable. Yes - I'm still going to take it easy. DH has to go to work today - he has a flight. I'm not thrilled they're having fly on a weekend so close to when he has to deploy - we want him around here!

Wow, Kirsty, that one made me cringe just thinking about it - so close to a true disaster! My niece once poked her finger into her dad's eye (he was sleeping on the couch, and she - only being 2.5 yrs old - came over to do the , "Daddy, are you awake? routine - and decided to see for hereself - pulled up his eyelid and POKED him! Well, he sure got up in a hurry then. He had a cut cornea and some other general abrasions - not good. As for the screwdriver in the room - yeah, we've had some "how'd that get int there" moments, too. Worst one was trying to figure out why my DS at age 4 had a steak knife in his closet. He insisted he had no knowledge of its presence, nor how it got there. We must have lectured that kid for a good year before I found the reason - further back in his closet was a BIG red piggy bank, totally filled with pennies that his great-grandfather has created for the "first great-grandchild" to have. Well, that honor fell to my eldest DS... much to the GREAT dissatisfaction of his younger brother, born 16 mos too late. Well, that poor big plastic pig looked fine at first glance... but when you heaved his penny-laden rear out of the closet, he looked like he'd been attacked by a slasher. Apparently younger ds got a knife (scary too, considering we keep all the knives WELL UP out of reach... apparently NOT HIGH ENOUGH.) And with knife in hand, hsi goal was to nab some of the loot for himself, I guess, but in the end, the tough ol' pig won out. Can you IMAGINE what he could have done to himself? Just watch a 2 yr old with a spoon and THINK ABOUT IT. His guardian angel worked overtime that day.

Worked til midnight last night, then this a.m. worked like a fiend trying to tidy the house (which is PURE CHAOS). DS10 had his friend and that boy's mom come over to work on their science project - they got a good deal of work doen but once that was over, I then had to bust tail to get down to the soccer fields for dd's last game of the season. Made it just in time for the second half, got to see her score (thought I missed her two goals in the first half - oh well, her dad was there!) Anywa, it was colder than a penguin's rear out there. At one point, a light rain started to fall - along with these big mongo-sized snow globs. Gotr home and no more than got wamr and dry again... and had to go to the boys' game. Brrr again. The kids all want to go to the HS football game tonight, but we are forecast for 30's with 40 mph wind - like THAT will feel pleasant, huh!?! Tomorrow is supposed to be nice - I told DH we need to have a family outing - let's go to the Sweet Apple famr tomorrow and pick a pumpkin, do the corn maze, all that autumnal stuff! He didn't look too enthusiastic... but I bet we can coerce him eventually, LOL.

Well, better go make the salsa for tonight's dinner. SOmehow when the weather is really bad, "spicy" seems really good!

Was having an OK day back in reality until a mouse went running from D's room. We're still hunting him down -- about 12 traps and NOTHING yet. Saw him a second time downstairs (lungs got a second workout). Thought about getting a cat. HI! I'm back! Sorry I didn't check-in during the week, I have no excuse except laziness.

First of all.... :clappingh for the Rozzies & Inky!!! Good luck on the 2nd interview Rozzie!

Kristy....so glad to hear that your DS is ok.....boy your family really gets into their Halloween costumes! REAL stiches?!?! NIIICCCEEE touch!

For Nono (aka soozaay stalker)...our DE/AC trip was awesome! Had some awesome buys at the outlets in DE. We bought a ton of t-shirts at the Old Navy outlet for $1.99 each! I love their t-shirts (mens) for night wear and just kickin' around the house. I got some shoes, sneaks, and DH got alot of shirts & pants at Nautica and some of the other places. I was even able to find my china set at Lenox, so I was able to replace a couple of plates that broke in our last move for like $8 each....SCORE!

We had dinner at this awesome Mexican restaurant.....we finished off 2 pitchers of golden margaritas and the food was delish (but who really cared after the 2 pitchers of margaritas!)....luckily the hotel was just a parking lot away! :Paranoid: We had been missin' our favorite mexican restaurant since moving from Atlanta...but now we have a new fave...still not around the corner, but a hell of alot closer! AND, it's only a 1-1/2 hour drive, 80 minute ferry ride and a short (free) trolley ride away! :clappingh :hahahaha:

Ok, as for our trip to Atlantic City...I WON! When leaving, I was up $200!!! :woohoo: Harry broke even playing poker.

Anyway, it wasn't as good as a trip to WDW, but at least I got out of town for 3 days...sometimes that's all I need.

Kristy, ouch! What a scary thing! Glad to hear your DS is ok. It's truly amazing how kids can get themselves into so much mischief without even thinking about it. Hope he heals quickly...or atleast after Halloween...wouldn't want to ruin his new costume accessory!

Erin, the girls look beautiful! Congrats on getting the dress done. The trunk thing is new to me but what a cool idea! Great job!!

Nono, I guess the new resident heard you were a mouse-friendly house...too bad that only includes 5 ft tall ones ;)

Soozay, glad you had fun on the DE/AC trip. Congrats on the deals and the win!

CB, get that computer fixed! We need you here!

OK, the U2 freak show ( love that BTW :hahahaha: ), it wasn't too bad. Too much U2 and "board talk" for me, but DH had a great time. (I'll get even next MO meet mawahahaha :goodnevil ) We met for dinner in a Chevy's on 42nd St (almost right across from Mary Poppins!), had DH almost through the subway turnstile to head back to Penn Station for our train home but he started whining like a baby about how he really wanted to go to the U2 tribute band concert (which was the real reason for this meet)...fine  so we went back to BB Kings for the show. Once the band finally got on stage at midnight, they were really good. The only thing that irks me is when tribute bands try to look and act like the real bands. Dude, you look nothing like Bono and personally I think Bono looks like an idiot doing some of the stuff he does on stage so knock it off! I like the tribute bands that sound like the originals but don't try to be them. But sound wise they were really good. We had to leave early....1AM...to catch the train.

Let me just add that it's always a treat to go into NYC the Sat before Halloween :hahahaha: Lots of costumes, lots of drunks...although sometimes it's hard to figure out if it's intentional or not ;) The train home was packed with drunk college students and we had a train crew with a sense of humor....making comments over the PA system, playing Halloween scary music out of nowhere to keep everyone on their toes. Fortunately, in our car most of the people passed out. Other cars had fights, alot of vomit and obnoxious behavior :sosad:

So at 3 AM we finally crawled in the door...crawled from exhaustion, not over drinking. And of course you know, the kids just do not get daylight savings time so they were up at 6AM instead of 7AM. :hammer:

Heck, Stimp, I think the U2 freak show deserves a Trip Report status!
Not sure how I would have fared on the trip home...(first grade report: 'does not to well with the body secretions of others' But it sounds like fun up until you had to board the train.

Soozay: remind me to take you the next time I cruise. I always lose all the money I bet, which thankfully, is about $20. I was playing craps on the last cruise and my strapless dress fell down (the top part). Thank God I had a same color bra on and an overblouse...noone could tell, but I was embarrassed nonetheless and ended up throwing the dice up and over the table and onto the floor. SIgh...my gambling days are way over.

Nono:Tell those mousies to RUNFORTHEIRLIVES. I have a mouser that catches the wild ones outside and brings them inside for gifties for his momma! Just send a first class ticket please (that's for me to go to MCO, Chubba can hitchhike!). No, I jest. There is nothing much scarier than a fast critter zig zagging and hopping about the house....if they would just lie still, I think I could deal. After the mouse nest in my car , I'm afraid to look into my plow vehicle that rests in the garage, useless, except as a trash vehicle (to take trash to the dumpster) But since that trash has been in there for a month...I'm now afraid to dump the stuff!

ERin:Thanks for the pictures...Halloween and little kids, dunking for apples and pumpkins....ain't life grand!

Kristy: do not take the boys to see "Running With Scizzors'

Roz: good luck with this interview. It sounds like it might get your feet in the door of a good hospital.

My kid had a Halloween party for about 75 people on Saturday. She went all out with the decorations, (food? no food, just kegs...well, she actually made desserts)
and said it 'reached rock star status' whatever THAT means. Anyway, she was quite proud of herself and her costume which was as Uma Thurman character in some movie where she died of a drug overdose....so my kid had a big syringe hanging out of her chest and a black wig. Sigh. Yes, I remember those days!
I decided against two parties I was invited to...and just stayed home and watched weird movies. But I have found someone to go to a Haunted House with me on Tuesday night (we get no trick or treaters up my long, dark road)...so I'm a happy camper!

Car fixed, AND I found someone to plow the driveway for only $36 a shot...a fantastic deal! Do you think my helloyes! when he told me the price made him think he had lowballed it? My back thanks him!

Ok,I really have to get computer fan fixed before computer blows up, write a bunch of lawyer/letters, get my truck fixed and sold, a car that is a styler Audi sports coupe on the market, a new tenant in the caretaker's apt....well, I get tired just thinking of all the stuff I SHOULD be doing.

Might have to give up my online visits for a few days...but thanks, Stimp for telling me that I'm 'needed'...always nice to hear!

Carrie-thanks for the Laura update.

Rozzie- I hope the interview is going well! If I see the hospital administrators wife at the kids Halloween party, I'll put in a good word for you!:slyasafox

Kristy- how is DS today?

Ginger- so glad you are back. Can't wait to read the trip report.

CB- I think your daughter was from the Pulp fiction movie? Not that I think I've even seen the whole movie, but I think I have seen that part of it. Glad you found someone to take care of the driveway.

Stimpy- Glad you survived the U2 extravaganza!

Someone asked if I made the girls dresses (don't remember who now). I made the dark blue dress for Briley, and I did make the Dorothy dress for Briley 6 years ago. It's been hanging out in the dress up box, and Addison decided to wear it to the fall festival. I figured it was more comfortable than the fury figment costume to wear for several hours, so I let her change her mind. She says she's still wearing figment tomorrow for trick or treating. Briley had a Wizard of Oz birthday party when she was 4, so I made her the Dorothy dress. My SIL and I got really sappy seeing Addison in the dress. She reminded me of my oldest being that little, and it almost made me cry! Holland picked her Lilo costume out at the Disney outlet in Destin during Labor Day, I had nothing to do with making it!:) We do trunk or treat every year at church with the kids. Everybody decorates their trunks and then the kids keep going in circles until all the candy is gone! We usually pick a winner, and this year, I won. DH was giving me a hard time about my lights that I strung up on the back of the car. Some lovely redneck trailer comments....:sosad: Of course he did absolutely nothing to help me with decorating it either.

Well, stupid me invited friends over to come trick or treat with our kids in our lovely neighborhood (I didn't mention anything about flying bullets). Now I've got to figure out what I'm fixing for us to eat, and clean my house. I asked DH this morning if it would be too much for him to unpack his garment bag from the mountain trip(what 2 weeks ago..) and get it off the bedroom door since we were having company. He said he would "try". Help I'm drowning in a house of slobs!

OK, I have the true WILD MOUSE (or mice, perish the thought) living in my house! Today around 10 it was about time to shower up and zoom there he is again whipping through the den!

I spent most of the day visiting the neighbors and am now living in the apartment until at least the first one dies. I bought the serious poison since we'll be living in the apartment, along with the old fashioned, baitable kind of trap. This will mean that we have 5 types of traps set up in the house tonight for a grand total of 17! And, if I get this carcass, I'm gonna fling him out the door and leave him lying there for all his little friends to get the message: Don't mess with nono! :crackedup

Ginger - The major news. Laura's father received a hear transplant and is doing very well. Scary time, though. J has popped her head back in a few times. She has a new song on indieheaven too, Rescue Me. Rozzie's dog Inky broke his leg while and a doggy resort adn he's been having a horrible time, including return visits to vet all over. In addition, ROzzie blew off a job interview and had a 2nd one today. She *thinks* she might want this one. ;) Kristy's dh is now going to be gone again for X-mas, plus she has pneumonia. :( Erin, Kimberly and gopherit are runnign temselves to death as usual. My life has been boring, but that's a good thing. Oh and it seems that several rodents, none in the gopher family, have met their demise lately. Forgive me if I've forgotten anything. nono, I'll up CB's offer of a First Class ticket, and mine will just be a coach. Heck, you can add a connecting flight in there even. Help me have a moment of peace with this cat!! Good grief, he has been with me for 9 years, and he is driving me crazy. As Stimpy well knows he is the cat that hates people! (remember the cartoon from the SciFi? He even looks like him. except for Mr Roz, who he worships of course. About 30 seconds ago, he flung a lizard in my lap, errrr, with his head dangling off. Yep, I got yo' kitty. Let me know if you need reinforcements!

Well, back from the hardest interview of my life. Felt like I was interviewing with the Female Donald. I scored it about a 5 on 0-10. As JB would say: if the phone doesn't ring, it's me.

Rozzie - When I interviewed for my curretn job, one part was liek a group interview. Their was a, hopefully, future co-worker there who asked all teh questions. I had to say "No, I haven't done that" to all of them. I thought I was a goner. Well, I got the job. The guy who asked all the questions and I got along famously. We'd argue points with each other when figuring stuff out. He was always the first person I went ot for advice/interpretation and vice versa. He's my boss now. We never stick around for Trick-orTreat. We put a table out on our front porch with a big bowl on it. We post a sign that reads " Be kind, leave some for others" and leave just a couple of empty Snickers Bar wrappers in it. First kid to the bowl just thinks someone was a jerk and took all the candy.

:hahahaha: I'm really liking that idea!

We have over 100 kids come through our neighborhood :faint: Everyone used to go all out on the treats and decorations etc....until "outsiders" caught on. Now we have people that don't live in our development drive their cars and park on the street and take about 10 kids out of the minivans to trick or treat. Nobody has a clue who the people are and since we live in a small development where everyone knows everyone, they can't even use the excuse of being "Joe's friend". So our own neighborhood kids now kind of lose out b/c the neighbors stopped doing the special things. (Although there are families, ahem like mine, that have a seperate treat bowl for the kids we know and the kids we don't. :innocent: ) Ok, vent over...deposting a bag of snickers into vent jar...Costco sized!

Happy Halloween to everyone!!!!

WE HAVE A DEAD MOUSE!

Halloween? Yep, it's from 5 -7 here tonight on the island...giving our leftovers from MNSSHP as our back up from our regular candy...warm nights means more trick-or-treaters for us...of course, our porch light is burnt out so we'll look like a "summer" house and may get passed by for those who don't know us. No pumpkin for us this year --no decorations at all. Maybe I'll string my summer party lights up on the porch to let folks know we're here...they are kinda orange...:sosad:

Basically, I hate halloween.

Ever year, our neighborhood is overrun by a couple hundred kids from other parts of town. About the best costum you'll see is a white tee shirt with a black magic marker, hand drawn pentagram. Maybe they smudge their face a little with charcoal.

In my day - ya, I'm living in the past - we dressed up, went door-to-door to our neighbors that actually knew who you were. They would invite you in, take the time to "try" and guess who you were and give you a quality treat.

I tried to post a link to a halloween card by www.jacquielawson.com.
I love her stuff, but the link isn't working. Dingdangdern.

I don't get any trick or treaters here at the end of a loooooonnnnnnnnngggggg dirt road with a 16% grade at the bottom. But when I lived in Denver for DD to go to high school...we were in a development that had LOTS of kids. I would put a moving hand (battery operated) in the candy dish and dare the kids to take a treat. But that got a wee bit scary for the little ones! Or it might have been the scary music that I played with speakers out on the porch. Or the cobwebs. Or answering the door in a long dark robe with a skeleton face mask.

Dang, I miss it!

But I'm going over to a friend's house in a development with kids plus shipping!!!!:veryconfu So it should be busy and fun. Then we're going over to Breckenridge where a man has become OC about his haunted house...and spends @ 15k a year on making it scary. This is the first year that he charges to go in, and I'm excited to see what he's come up with. I still havent' found my huge Halloween Box full of STUFF. My X probably threw it away like so many other 'keepsake' things. I really enjoyed my collection of stuff...from penquin costumes to moving hand to tombstones. I think I'll take my 20 foot spider over to friend's house. Happy Halloween everyone!

Guess I still live in Mayberry.

Pretty old fashioned by us. Local kids, usually with a parent waiting close by, not many outsiders and kids wear costumes that are fairly recognizable.

But, at 8:00, 8:30 at the latest, it's lights out. No need to tempt the rowdy teens that may be prowling nearby.

Baited, old-fashioned trap.

I wanted to leave him strapped to the board and hanging around outside as a message to his friends, but H put him in a bag and in the trash.

We're leaving the rest of the traps ups for the week in case anyone else decided to come in. Other than those 3 cracks we stuffed with steel wool, we're stumped as to any other possible entry points, but one never knows!

Yup, dog got a few snacks along the way.

This dog is the most un-dog-like dog I've ever met. It is so udderly spineless. Ths kids dress her up, make her do stupid dog tricks, etc and it never fusses, never complains. It'll wear that silly head piece all night if you tell it to.

TW1- love the pics! Especially pocohantas. I would love to have a dog like that. Every one that I have picked out has been an absolute spaz and completely unmatched with our family. I guess I just need someone else to pick out a dog for me.

Rozzie- I hope I haven't already missed you. Have a great trip. Try not to kill your Mother, okay?;)

Nono- so glad you captured the mouse! Hopefully he didn't have friends.

We survived a couple of school Halloween parties yesterday, and then went trick or treating with some friends last night. I invited them over here since they don't live close with neighbors. I made a pot of chili and some corn muffins and then we walked around our neighborhood. We were crawling with kids. I ran out of candy by about 7:30 ( I run out every year). I even bought quite a bit more than last year and still ran out. We had tons of "visitors" to our neighborhood. I even had some lady that looked over 50 trick or treating with some teen age kids saying she had a sick kid at home! The last couple of years I put the candy bowl on the front porch and we would be out pretty quickly. This year I made DH and my friends H sit out in the drive way and hand out the candy hoping my supply would last a little longer. OH well.

Addison pooped out after 30 minutes and said her nose was hurting and she just wanted to go be with Daddy at the house. So I brought her back home to him. I figured something was up. Sure enough around 2:30 this morning she crawled in my bed crying saying that her ear hurt. After a Dr. visit this am to confirm the ear is infected we are back at home resting. I forgot all about having dentist appointments this afternoon. Gotta get everyones teeth cleaned at 2:30. (good thing they called to remind me)

Ok, so does the vent jar take IOU's?
What is it about me that I hire people who don't do the work they promised and then ask me to pay them anyhow? First, there were the dead trees: he said he'd cut down 11 pine beetle kill trees if I bought the chain saw. (He'd deduct cost of saw from cost of tree cutting. So , I bought the saw. He came up and cut two little scraggley trees that I could hand saw down, dropped them whole and didn't cut and stack, left a 3ft stump (he agreed to cut them to the ground and stack) and then said he was going back to Hawaii cause it was too cold and he didn't want to mess up his new shoes. I spent 2 hours trying to get him a cheap ticket (he paid cash for it) and he promised to come back the next day with my godson's father and cut some of the trees. Never showed. Then godson's dad calls and asks if I can pay him for cutting the two little trees.....ah, NO.

The car problem cost $35 for the emergency mobile who couldn't figure out the prob, $175 for a tow less than a mile (he said he had to shovel snow, but I shoveled and cleaned off the snow PLUS I exposed the back tow bar so that he just had to hook it up and pull), plus $180 from the mechanic who said it was a 'bad ground from battery to chassis and that the original mobile service should have figured it out. (To be fair, mobile guy called to ask what was wrong with the car and I told him and he apologized and even offered to give me back the $35, which I thought was really nice and said no)

So now we come to the roof leak that left water stains on my oriental silk carpet.
Covered by insurance. So I call around and find a 'long time family firm' who specializes (HA) in this. Free pick up and delivery grabs my attention. The guy comes to pick up and asks me to help him lift the carpet. So I do and he drops his end in the mud. Hmmm. He has no receipt to give me, which is a bit scary (I love the carpet and don't think I can find a replacement), but the owner agreed to call and discuss options as soon as he saw it. A week goes by, I get the call from owner: we are returning carpet because we can't get the stain out. But I'm not charging you, just $50 for the pick up and delivery. I tell the guy that my back is out from shoveling, so could he make sure the deliverer can handle delivery. He says no problem. Same guy brings carpet back and asks for my help. I decide for $50, he can lift it on its own. He drops the rolled carpet in my DR and stands there...but I don't offer any money. (I figure I'll turn any bill into the insurance company with explanation and let them decide) He leaves after telling me the rolled up carpet is 'slightly wet'. WHA????? I unroll it and it is actually quite damp and SMELLS. Doesn't look like the area with the stain has any water on it...only other parts of the carpet. HUH?

Ok...so now I guess Ihave to call someone else or take it somewhere (its 9 x 12 so not easy to fit in a car, even rolled.) SIGH.

Ok...vent over! But the question remains...what do I do to attract this type of service?

Stimpy
11-01-2006, 07:57 PM
Yikes CB. Sounds like a nightmare that keeps returning. Hop eyou finally find a dependable person to clean the carpet for you! Want some candy? Let's see we have m&ms, hershey bars, umm....milky ways....you name it we probably have it!

Erin, hope your DD feels better soon. We have some extra candy...want me to send you some too??

TW, the kids look great, the dog looks adorable! One of our cats is like that too. You can do anything to her and she won't flinch. She was our shelter cat so I guess she remembers the alternative! She's been dressed as a baby, as Yoda, godzilla...seomtimes I just roll my eyes and think she's either a real loving cat or a stupid one. :innocent: The other cat is a mush but hides from the kids all day long.

Halloween was fun here. The kids got lots of candy, hardly any of which will be eaten. DS does not like candy but loves the "hunt" so we can't miss a house and he has to get a full bag. The crazy one loves candy but we cut her off really quick....a 2 1/2 yr old on a sugar rush can be a dangerous thing. She gets 1 a day. So if any one wants some, let me know....I'm sure we got quite the assortment! (The Milk Duds and Dots are mine though :innocent: )

Oh, and for the record TW1 does NOT sing, at least when anyone is within earshot.

P.S. this is my 1,600th post. Yeah, I need a life.

Thanks nono! Parents are driving you that nuts, huh? :grouphug:

Carrie,

By this time next week, you may be calling it $*#&%(#& blue tooth. You'd better have a :ale: now to prepare yourself. :crymeariv

My parents to sum up briefly, are failing in mental acuity, but somehow this failing hasn't hit the part of the brain that regulates stubborn behavior. :o

So far, no additional mouse sightings. Whew! I patched the ceiling holes this morning (where we changed out track lighting for nice ceiling fans -- err...in the spring ). Cleaned the downstairs bathroom, started to bag up our summer clothes for storage :tearsaref , paid bills, and did a little reorganizing of the kitchen this morning. It's amazing how virtual mimosas keep me going!!!

Just stopping in for a quick goodbye!

If there's anything left at the bar, please slide one this way! And then kick my butt out of the closet! Still only half packed and we leave in 3 hours :hammer:

Of course, DD has a big cold and will be miserable on the plane. So I called the DR this morning and he suggested Dimatapp so we'll see how that goes. :worried: Our luck it will make her hyper and cranky.

Have a GREAT trip Stimpy!

Boy, with Roz AND Stimpy gone and Pooh...the boards are gonna be awfully quiet this weekend!

I had someone wake me at 7 today re the rental, showed it to him at 11 and it might be a go. He's going through a divorce (hopefully not like mine!) and I asked him who his lawyer was...had it been X's lawyer I would have thrown the dude out! A photographer with an older female lab...and he says he is handy with fixits and a good tennis player...so, it might work out fine. Even tho my ad was clear: 1person/1dog/1car...I had four calls from couples. sigh.

Well...into rearranging the closet (real not vitual) from summer to winter, so pass some mimosas my way and I'm off!

Here's 2 mimosas to keep you going! Gotta go haul out the winter clothes from storage and start washing them! I'm right with ya!

AH, but is that "Classic" Dimetapp, or "New-not-as-effective- thanks-to-Chronic-Abusers" Dimetapp? I hate losing all these perfectly good meds to the drug-heads. Nobody ever outlawed grapes just because they could be turned into wine.... Ridiculous. :sosad:

Yawn - tired gopher. Put 500 ccs of double expresso and 50 cc's of Bailey's in an IV and hook me up, bartender. THis week has been simply nutso. Burned the midnight oil on Monday getting everything ready for the science day at the school the next day. DH helped me run that on TUesday (and I mean literally run it. Last yera, the 5th grade teacher was very helpful getting everything set. THis year - neither teacher did ANYTHING. Just left it TOTALLY to me, everything from set, up, supplies, the experiments, clean-up - YOU NAME IT. We were there for 2 hours!) The kids loved it, so that made it worthwhile, and the 6th grade teacher thanked me/us profusely, but I never got a sense that the 5th grade teacher knew what it took to orchestrate the whole thing. WHich is sad... becuase she's the science teacher for both grades!! ANyhoo... left htere at 2:30 after visiting each kid's Halloween party to go home, carve 3 pumpkins, tidy the house, and run out for pizza. Got kids all suited up, did the ToT thing (trick or treat... I only wish it was ToT!) Our town has planned dates and limits. THis year it actually landed on Halloween - most often, it's NOT! And it only runs from 6 to 7:30. ONce the kids were done and things seemed to be settling down... kids reminded me, Hey mom, did you ever make my All Sain'ts DAy costume? Dash it all, no I didn't. ANd sadly, all my "stored up" saintly garb (yes, I keep all costumes, including one marked "saints", just like any good parent of a parochial school student does) were for more impoverished saints. DS11 clearly needed more scholarly looking garb for St. Francis de SAles. DS10 then decides he isn't going to be St. Francis os Assisi and wants to be "Saint blah-zay". Uh, hon, that's BLAY-ZE, spelled Blaise, and I don't have a bishop's hat for your brother, much less you!! Well, made one fine lookin' bishop's hat for DS11, only to find it was a tad too small... and DS10 immediately said, "Then it's mine!" SO I ended up, before the night was done, sewing 2 bishop hats, 1 red cape, and hemming up dd's smock so she could walk to the chapel without falling on her face. That and some signs and 3 wooden crosses and I was done... at the fine hour of 3 am. The next day, had to work late, got home at 7 pm, dd didn't sound so good (coughy-glop thing), ended up flaking out asleep in her bed from 8 pm til 6 am the next day. Yesterday had to leave work early to run brownie mtg for 12 girls solo because co-leader has mom in hospital. Managed to get through that by using a lot of the science demo stuff I had preapreed earlier in the week, which was great, except that cabbage juice indicator was RANK by then, despite cold storage. Capital P-U (and of course, ironically, the kids just SQUEALED wtih delight over how "stinky" it was...) TIght timeline that night, and par for the course... one kid's dad didn't come pick her up until 35 minutes AFTER the meeting ended. Grrr. Went to dd's end-of-year soccer party then into work from 7 to midnight, then came home and somehow started reviewing ds10's Webelos book and ds11's BoyScout book looking for things they could do together to earn credits because (a) I believe in multi-tasking and (b) DS10's leader is a DUD. He hans't had a cub scout meeting in 4 weeks!!! Stayed up til 2 on that. THis am, I was late into work because I had to send my bio and a photo in for this speechI'm giving next week, and I was hoping to run some errands this afternoon (some early xmas shopping, plus I need a new suit). Dd wants that Blue Man music thing for xmas and I notice it's on sale at TRUs this week. Doesn't look like that will happen though. Need to clean lab, go home, help kids to do their science projects. Tomorrow NO SOCCER (yay for that much!) but the DS10's science fair partner and his mom are coming over in the afternoon. SUnday I leave to go to my Mom's and then visit my old hometown and speak in a Rotary club - guess I'll find out if you can / can't go home again after all! Haven't been there in about 11 years. When I get back home late late TUesday, I will be up past my eyebrows in work - I am dreading it already. Ewww. Meetings galore and lest I forget - year-end review time. Fun, fun fun! And science fair the next week at the schools (I have to judge in one, then kids are in another one that I have to provide food for judges.) Did I mention that somewhere in there BIL and SIL are coming to visit? Visitors... in our piggie stye? Add massive clutter removal and cleaning like the flight of the bumblebee to my to-do list and a great big exclamatory AUGGHHHH!!!!!!!! 3 days into it and November is KILLING ME! TGIF my fanny.... put me to sleep and wake me up on the first Saturday in December! :faint:

TW1- awesome news! I know you are "temporarily" relieved!

Stimpy, Roz- Have a great time! Roz, do not kill your mother, do not kill your mother, do not.....
Stimpy- I hope all the family plans go well. I know the pressure of planning the "family" trip.

Gopher- I figured you must be busy, since we hadn't heard from you in a few days. Do you think BIL & SIL will actually show this time? Sure as you don't clean the house up they will right?

Carrie- have fun in Houston, and playing with your new toy.

CB- What does the prospective male tenant look like? :hahahaha: Is he a Disney fan? (lets find out the important stuff!)

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm headed out to girl scout camp. ahh, the joy of camping in 30 degree weather with no electricity. I'm so excited!:hammer: DH is going to see Lonestar in concert tomorrow night, and I'll miss it because of GS camp!:sosad: I guess it will be a quiet weekend around here.

Update from Laura: She was hoping to be here more this week, but obviously that did not work out so well. SHe's about caught up at work, btu busy time for life in genral. Her dad is doing very well. very weak from 10 days of induced coma, but heart is strong and therapy is making him better every day. He moved to a facilty for transplant patients who live too far from teh hospital to go home, but don't need hospital care. He's good enough that she doesn't feel the need to see him quite so much and is back closer to teh normal mom-type runnign around. Oncce again, I don't know how working parents do it. She send her love and :goodvibes to teh Nothingers.

OK, my dh raved about how clear my bluetooth headset sounded from his end. Now, if it would stop droppign my calls...:headscrat However, the navigation program works AMZINGLY well!!

hi everyone - remember me??? just checking in during the marathon travels before I board yet another plane tomorrow.

I'm so happy that the first post I read was that Laura's dad is doing okay - you've all been in my thoughts but especially Laura's family since his story is so close to my heart....

and :dancingba to Mrs TW1!!! great news

a very belated thanks to Rozzie, Mr Rozzie, and Erin for a great lunch date. It was great to be back in Alabama, and I'll be there again in december. Fairhope is such a beautiful area and I had some wonderful strolls along the shore. Plus Alabama gets my vote for some of the most amazing cloud formations and sunsets.

it's back home tomorrow for just a few days before :woohoodan the city of lights and le souris en francais.

sorry if I have missed everyone's news and updates - I've had some serious technology woes including no power, no internet, and no screen on my laptop dring my travels this month! :sosad: I've definitely learned to be flexible!!!

best thoughts to you all - missed you!!!!

Anyone else having a hard time accessing "The Nothing Thread" ?

All other threads I view load normally, this one takes forever. Noticed the problem on Friday at work, went camping and now I try it again and it took forever to load.

Seems odd, but I'm also a very suspicious person.

When I hit "submit" for my above post, it took nearly 2 minutes for it to post. I than hit two other threads, took seconds to load, than came back to this one. Took almost 2 minutes for it to open & I'm certain it will take nearly as long for this post to load.

Very odd.

Yes, definately a Nothing thread problem. Tried to sneak in for a quick hello and had to wait forever. Maybe it's time to start a Nothing Thread #2?

Vacation is going well so far. Rozzie left a message yesterday on my cell phone but stupid phone died and is recharging now  I haven't seen any reports on the news about mother/daughter being tossed from WDW yet ;) The parks are definately stating to get crowded :crymeariv but we're making the best of it.

Maybe we need a nothing thread per year....????

Maybe we need a nothing thread per year....????

Wouldn't we have notice a gradual slowing down rather than an abrupt creeping if the number of pages were the issue ?

If the number of pages IS the problem, can't a Mod just go in and delete the first 300 or so ?

TW1
11-06-2006, 03:32 PM
Doesn't seem to have been gradual slowdown for me, more of an all at once thing sometime last week.

Anyway, here's hoping you all had a great weekend. We rented Monster House and watched it with the kids. Not bad really, better than I expected, creepier too. DD wanted to go see Flicka but it already seems to have been yanked from the theaters. Was it that bad?

mickeyndvcfan
11-06-2006, 03:45 PM
The first time it happened to me at home I just thought it was a problem with my computer until I went to work and it was the same there. No gradual slowdown here either just POOF one day it slowed down.

Colorado Belle
11-06-2006, 04:15 PM
Yep, I noticed it too!
I had to clear my cache and history from too much bidding on Ebay this weekend (starting a new collection of Dept56-Dickens Heritage Houses) or I would have thought it was my computer.

We 'd best post this problem over on the tech thread, since not to many mods frequent the Nothing thread. But if it takes 2 minutes to load and 2 more to post, it would sure cut down on the frequency of Nothing posts! Hmmmmmm......
