It feels like a lifetime since the last time I posted or visited the boards for that matter! First of all....a great big  goes out to all who need it! I've been such a bad nothinger...I've been neglecting my nothingers...I'm so ashamed :bagovermy ...I really don't have any excuse but busy with the whole 2nd job thing and I was sick for awhile and was just not going online....sorry....I really will be keeping up more in the future.
Well, it's Friday now...so HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH!!! The 13th has always been a lucky day for me, so lets hope that it stays that way for me and all of the nothingers! :dust

OK, I know it'ss kind of a weather thing, but we actually have a game on a night where I can watch it all and it's on at 4:30? What's up with that? Then again, when the game's over, there'll still be time fro dh to take me to teh movies. ;)
Haven't had a weekend at home since before Labor Dya. I am so ready for one! Just have to clean the guest room, exchange my summer clothes for winter clothes (this should ensure that fall will come back), clean the rest of my house.... :faint:

Just got a note from Laura and she asked me to pass along her father's progress...
Her father is still "stable" and they are trying to get through the weekend in hopes that a heart will be donated. If not, then he will have surgery to have a pump put in. She thanks everyone dearly for their thoughts and prayers, and ask that you continue on with them...:grouphug:
In other news, it appears that WDW resorts have seen an increase of people wearing viking horns and bikini tops whilst sipping martinis and begging for funyons...

OK, some one slide one of those martinis this way....dirty, clean, don't matter at this point :D
OK Ladies, with the Viking away, we can now post all those cleavage bearing "mistake" photos as we snuggle with one another :innocent:
Thanks for the update ndrabble on Laura and her family!!! She's constantly on my mind lately!
I finally get to get even with DH for all the Yankee/Mets comments lately...seems manly-man DH will be watching OPRAH today :ROTFL: Bono from U2 is the guest so I have been merciless in taunting him with "Michael's going to watch Opppprrrahhhhh!!!" HeeHee...I can be so mean
Which reminds me....I'm sure I've mentioned before how much I loooovvveeee hanging out with DH's on-line friends (was that dripping with enough sarcasm???) We get to do it again at the end of the month in NYC. We'll he showed me a post last night on his board where his friend from FL was raving about how nice I was and how I "welcomed him to Long Island" and made him feel so at home. At this point, I almost burst out laughing b/c at the time it was meant as an insult! (Not towards him but the other people we were with) Yep, little ole me can be quite the witch when I've had a few too many and don't want to be there. But I controlled myself and just rolled my eyes instead.
At the time, it was late at night, after a depressing benefit for one of DH's coworker's family.....I know I mentioned it at the time....and we met the "friends" at a club afterwards. Mostly women in their late 20's-50's, DH and DH's guy friend from FL. The women were acting like a stereotypical bunch of Long Islander with their big hair, screaming along to the Billy Joel cover band and making quite the scene. Since I was embarrassed , I said something along the lines of "I see they are giving you the "true" LI experience! Here's something you can go home and tell them in FL!" Completely sarcastic, totally insulting to the group...atleast I thought it was :hahahaha: and yes I did feel really bad about it afterwards.
So I got quite the chuckle out of the comments on DH"s board yesterday. Even when I'm being mean and insulting, people think I'm nice :innocent: And I'm sure it doesn't sound as funny here as I find it LOL
Well, now this nice mommy has to go bake another batch of cupcakes for tomorrow's big birthday party. (Baked 28 yesterday for school already!) I'm sure I'll have quite a few "nice" things to say about that tomorrow!

Oh, I dunno.... I think anytime you can make fun...errr...make observations about others and it goes over their head, then that makes for a good time. I mean, if they;re not getting it, is it a bad thing? Kinda akin to the tree falling in the forest... Well, maybe not, but I know what I'm trying to say...
And, really, can you be a manly man if you're watching Oprah? Even if Bono is on? I suppose you could save face by wearing the viking horns....

Huh... and here I don't need any alcohol to ask stupid questions or make obnoxious comments...
TW... you;re from Philly, so maybe you can explain this to me. I live in New Orleans, and our beloved Saints are hosting your Eagles. As I was walking to the bank here in the Quarter, I noticed 3 guys wearing T. Owen jerseys trying to shove a guy wearing a McNabb jersey into a Port-A-Let. Now, I went to an Eagles game once at Veterans Stadium; possibly the worst experience I have ever had to endure at a professional sporting event. THey heckled and ribbed and shouted and, I think, even put lit one guy on fire, anyone pulling for the opposing team (this night happened to be DA Bears)... But, why would guys wearing green be doing such a thing to another in green? Shouldn't they be trying to dunk some guy wear a Saint's jersey instead? ANyways, just an observation from my own lil hell....er hometown...
...and can we make change using the Vent Jar?
ndrabble
Thanks Carrie...not too bad, many interviews, a call-back next week. Picked up some fairly regular freelance work so even if the interviews don't pan out it looks like we'll celebrate Christmas after all.
ndrabble, you do know that TO was an Eagle for 3/4ths of last year's season and was run out of town, right? So TO bashing is a serious hobby for any Eagles fan. Now those TO guys trying to stuff poor McNabb into a wc, well that's just nasty, ganging up on the guy, they must be Dallas fans. Games at the old Vet, or even the new Linc, always seem to result in gang violence, dismemberment & pillaging. For the last few years of Vet Stadiums existance ther was actually a courtroom set-up in the basement and guys were regularly carted off to see Judge McCafferty, sentenced and hauled away throughout the game. Sort of a sport in itself.
And, no, the vent jar does not give change...horoscopes maybe, but never change. The vent jar is specifically reserved to raise funds to put gas and cold Yuengling in the Nothing van. So vent away and whenever you need a lift, just give the van a whistle.

Heck, I'm not even posting cleavage photos til he comes back.
Well it IS Friday. My insurance adjuster told me some good news: most of the damage from my roof leaking is covered. YEAH! Hope she sends the check to ME and not the wicked X.
My tenant (in the caretaker apt attached to the house) just moved the last of his stuff out. His dog (a lab) was here visiting with my golden retrievor. they are going to miss each other! I have to get an ad in the paper quick.
I had a scare yesterday: used a Blood PRessure machine to take my BP in the grocery store. It came back 145/80!!!!!! you bet was concerned ..WHOA. But then on the way home I stopped at my rec center and they were having a little health fair and I had it taken for real: 126/64 .Still high for me, but I'll take it!!
They shouldn't have those darn machines if they are so inaccurate! (like to give me a heart attack ).
Have a great weekend, folks. And take a look at my most favorite photo just posted in my trip report...miss devine!

:tinker: Sent all my yoga energy from class this morning to Laura's family.
Now sending pixie dustings to our broken Greyhound sweetie:tinker: :tinker: ....Roz, perhaps you could whip up some extra calcium/antioxident doggie stew to supplement what she gets at the hospital....it may be silly, but I do that with my pets when they need extra strength.
We have a grey day here...A-Basin ski area opened yesterday and today two more! BUt I wore flipflops and short sleeves to yoga class and then went over to the town meeting hall yard to pick up a Halloween pumpkin. Then to pick up the mail, which, when you are used to getting nasty letters from assattorneys and even nastier rulings from crooked judges, you tend to avoid doing. BUt instead of seeing nasties, I got a little Disney Magic from jiggerj! (Thanks, babe). So it is turning into a good day. Then I was watching the cooking channel and learned how to braise a chuck roast to fork tenderness using Barolo wine! Yum. Now it's time to clean and water plants and call friends to say HI. It's the weekend!!!
Here's:jumpingbe wishing a good one to you all...:cool2:

you know CB, that is good advice about the supplements. I should have probably been giving her extra VIT D and calcium all along. She does get cheese snacks, but evidently that calcium treat isn't going to cut it. I actually tried to call my old vet from Florida, the greyhound vet that saved her life off the track, to get his opinions on supplements. What a sweet man he was, and so devoted to greyhounds. He started the first greyhound resuce in our area years ago.
Glad CB you got some PD from Jigger/Laura. You are so deserving of it!! Of all the crapola you have gone through. Do you mind when we tie the your EX and his attorney's to the railroad tie before the train, if we can tie down this witch at the vet office today??
Seems my temper got the best of me today. Drive 35 min over to see Inky, even called first to make sure it was a good time, even though our Ortho Vet who OWNS the place said I can come by anytime day or night. Get there, and was promptly told by the receptionist that I missed visiting hours. Let's see, where is that smiley, oh, yep here it is... I guess I had a lot of pent up frustration, and decided to open the flood gate. Then after yellling at everybody with a scrub top on, (then of which they decided, oh yeah, it's the lady that could sue us, we better let her in) I balled my eyes out laying IN the crate area with Inky for an hour. I am sure I was the picture of absolute emotional health. :sosad:

Rozzie! I'm so sorry! Poor Inky. I really hope you get some good news soon! They had us so worried about our dog's broken legs - I really think you may have to sedate Inky until she's completely healed - it's the only way to keep them off their legs. Our vet said even at the 4 week mark - the leg was still to fragile to sustain any weight. Did they have a good splint on there before? I'm tellin' ya - it was a good 6 weeks of carrying that 80lb dog around..... my back aches just thinking abou it.

nono----Gosh, I am way out of the loop! didn't know you were having knee issues. Goodness, I know that is stressing you not being able to run. Just think of all the walking you will get done next week though, booth to booth, back to booth. Then the next booth. :slyasafox
Had brunch with my mom this morning, and I have to tell you, getting butterfly's about dragging her down to the World with me in 2 weeks. I gave her my Cinderalla and Aladdin DVD's, to watch with her grandchild, and she said she "wasen't" into Cinderalla, and couldn't "follow" Aladdin and turned it off. Couldn't follow Aladdin????????????? :idontgeti The last Disney movie she saw, according to her was "Oliver". Uhhh.......ummmmmmmmmm......Mom, errr...never mind. Not worth the effort! :headbrick I have put her on notice, that it is a commando trip, as I have some irons in the fire at work, and if they pan out, I might have a new job in Jan., which means no vacation for a year. As I was leaving she hollered out "I am looking forward to the Main Street Electrical Parade!!" Yep, her last trip was 20 years ago...:sosad:
I didn't visit with Inky today. I called and talked to the tech who is taking care of her. They said she is doing good, eating and drinking, but still dopey from all the meds. They are closed today, and she hinted they were very busy with emergency's, so I told her I wouldn't come up there in be in the way. Thanks for all the suggestions, he put in a major plate in there this time, and said that one of the screws in the old plate might have contributed to her new fracture. She will be dog jail for 6 weeks (crate). Her bones are so brittle, I might make it 8 weeks for safe measure. :dog: :fingerscr
Hey Rozzie,
Today at church, they pray for everyone's health care providers by name, including lots of nurses! However, the one that completely caught me by surprise was when they announced Dr. Moffatt, who's a vet in town! :dog: All of us in the "junvenile deliquent" section of our chapel (the back three rows, behind where the entrance is) kept snickering about it for 5 min. :sosad: But, when you think about it, why not? Each of the providers mentioned gets a letter from our church letting them know they were mentioned in prayer. I'm glad our church isn't "species-ist". :)

Kristy, glad the slumber party went well. 2AM?? You certainly are braver than me LOL Hope the boys enjoyed themselves and you finally got some rest today.
DS had a great time at his party yesterday! :birhdaypa It worked out well even with a minor problem that just irked the heck out of me at the time.
One of the reasons we picked this place was b/c it was a 1 party at a time policy. We had 16 6-7 yr old boys to keep track of and they were in teams of 8, alternating between 3 different rooms for the activities. 8 boys were driving the go-carts while the other 8 were split into 4 doing micro races in another room, 4 in game room and then they switched. Several parents stayed at the party too.
10 minutes after DS's party starts, this group of about 20 10 year olds and their parents show up to have a birthday party too. It was a madhouse with a lot of confusion. People from the other party kept going into the party room where DS's gifts were, our cameras, some of the mom's pocketbooks etc were left. So I got really annoyed and a little ummm...witchy to the manager. Unfortunately, it wasn't her fault so I did feel bad. This other party was not scheduled through them at all....they just showed up! Some of the parents from the other party went into the party room b/c they had no idea it wasn't an "official" party and they thought they belonged in the party room. Everytime we passed through this group, we almost lost 1-2 of "our" kids and gained a few of theirs.
Fortunately, the party hosts we had (3 teenagers) did an awesome job and were right on top of the boys in our group. I was rather angry at the parents that decided to hold an impromtu birthday party on a Saturday afternoon, especially with so many kids! But I did feel a little better when the kids in our group got to cut ahead of their kids on line for the go-cart part! The parents in the other group couldn't understand why that was allowed. Ummm...let's see....we paid almost $700 for DS's party, the other "hosts" obviously didn't. :innocent: (Hmm, does that sound a little snobby? :o )
Ahhhh....I feel much better now....depositing my $50 in the jar!

Little kid's birthday parties arent' what they used to be, are they?
I think having a lot of kids outside the home for a party is a huge headache in addition to the high costs charged these days. I think I'd be too afraid of the liability! You are brave, Stimpy! And I am 'not with the times' re prices of things these days!
boy is it dead this weekend on the boards! I added some photos to my trip report...keeper photos of Devine (that I think are exceptionally good, but that's just my feeling...no one else seems overly excited about them.
Well, maybe it's a good thing...that everyone is busy doing family stuff this weekend. I talked with my good friend in Hawaii this morning after hearing about the earthuake. she said the house she's in started shaking and shaking....and that it was a most unusual experience. They lost power and phone and the roads to Hana and Iao Valley are closed for rockslides. Other than that, everything seems ok. WHew! And I spoke with DD and told her she'd love food and wine. She told me she was thinking about surprising me for Thanksgiving (well, actually her bf is coming to Denver the weekend before Turkey day for biz reasons and I think she thought I'd be a handy place to ski from. But she said the airfares were absurd. (She is somewhat spoiled as Santa BArbara has an airport but 10 minutes from her house and so she usually refuses to fly out of LAX, even if it is much cheaper. She pays for her own air these days of ocurse...so it is definitely up to her, but I'd love to be surprised!!!! I've also been thinking of going to my timeshare in Puerto Vallarta that week and hoping DD would join me there....so I 'd best start planning!!
Hannah, my golden, sends major sniffs and licks to Inky and hopes that Inky will come play once she is healed!
As ever, prayers are with Laura and her family in hopes that someone somewhere cuts the heart out of a divorce attorney and gives it to someone who would actually use it for a higher purpose!!!! not trying to be funny here at all, but it is remarkable to me at how many good people we lose while the bad guys seem to flourish...I just can't figure that one out.

OMG CB!! I know you did not mean to be funny, but I seriously laughed out loud at first, then sighed in total agreement. I don't understand it either, how evil, really evil people live and live and keep living, while the good hearted, wonderful people suffer. It makes no sense, does it??
It also grieves me how some people don't believe in organ donation. I just want to shake them, and slap them around, and drag them by the ear, and make them see someone who is griping onto the thread of life. Laura pumpkin, if you are reading, keep staying positive, keep being strong.

Mornin' to all from the burrow. Up early today to do orthodontist detail with the kids. I love our ortho here. Always efficient, and very practical. Looks like we won't have to have our salaries direct-deposited there next year for DS11 and DS10's braces just yet. Doc wants to wait one more year - says he thinks it will go "faster" if we wait, and then he won't have to pull any teeth either. He really put DS11's mind at ease too, re: what type braces he would have to wear, etc. DS was very worried he'd have to wear the head thingy his dad wore. DS11 is getting to that adolescent angst age, ya know. So it looks like both boys will be in braces in 2008. Irony of it - by that time dd6 will be 8 and probably into an expander by then... anybody got a sure winner set of numbers for the lottery, LOL? BUt anyway, another thing I do love about the ortho here - they understand our company med plan! They told me that if the plans change and they decide to put the braces on either DS or the expander in dd before the end of next year, they will defer payment until 2008 so that we can cover it under our dependent spending account. Very nice folks indeed. I told my kids that if they have any inkling of becoming doctors, they should look into orthodontics. THink about it - most of your clients take pretty good care of their teeth (unlike some of the mouths a general dentist sees). You don't have to work wkends or late night "ER" calls, the pay is good, the insurance not so very bad, and you still get to call yerself "Doctor". Not too shabby.
Ah, birthday parties. AFMom, hate to tell ya this, but the older your kids get, the harder those slumber parties are! My DS went to one 3 wks ago and they didn't go to sleep - at all. Ever. Nada. They stayed up until breakfast the next day and then at 10 am - they crashed, like a short circuit. I picked my kid up at 10:30 still out of it and honestly, he didn't become coherent until late that afternoon. Just slept in the car while I drove home, then over to his sister's soccer game - still sleeping in the car, I drove him BACK home again, and he stayed there in the garage, snoozing in the car until 4 pm!!Stimpy, wow, that was some party! And to think DH was complaining about the costs of a bowling party here (2 hrs of laser bowling with pizza and cake here runs about $150 for a group of 10 kids and 2 lanes, shoes, etc.) A gym party for 15-20 kids with activities is about $250. Friends of ours just opened up their estate (they have a farm with a pond, picnic shelter, horses) for parties - I am hoping to have dd's party there in May. They will do horseback riding for the kids, along with games and stuff. You can also rent things like moonbounces, etc. for additional fee. They are pretty reasonable (I think it would have been $150 to $175 for the 13 girls in dd's class to do pony rides and games, etc.) DS10 is going to a class b'day party out there this wkend so we'll get a chance to check it out first-hand. DS is in school with the owner's dd and just loves it out there. I think DS would give his eye-teeth to live on a farm, LOL.... that or a zoo! We call him our own little Jack Hanna....
Speaking of which, I had the "joy" of camping out Friday night with nature boy. It was a campout with his cub scout group, supposedly organized with a boy scout troop so that there would be "badge work and activities." True to form for our den leader - it had neither. There was no food either. The notice had simply said "bring some snacks and $5 for food". Well, I learned long ago that our den leader is completely slack, so I packed food for DS and I... others weren't so lucky. The boys were all up by 7 am, but it was easily 9:30 before the boy scouts started cooking some pancakes. There were no drinks, however, to go with it. Now I'm all for "roughing it", but these kids were hungry, and there was nothing for them to even drink? So much for a scout being prepared, LOL... good thing I had juice and pop-tarts in my car, although I felt so guilty about having them, since some of the others had to make do with a burnt cake and water. The scout master for the boy scouts left the camp on Saturday at 10 am to go buy food - now wouldn't you think you would get the food BEFORE you came to camp? THat boy scout troop was as bad as our den leader. It made me glad my DS11 had joined a different boy scout troop! I had to explain to some of the cub parents that not ALL boy scout troops are like that. DS11's troop assigns each patrol a job / meal / task, etc. so a campout runs very smoothly. Some of the other cub parents were regally ticked off about the lack of activities at this campout. I'm hoping they too will vent a bit (to the leader, not just me!), because up to now, I feel like I've been the only one disgruntled at the lack of organization / effort expended by the den leader. Especially since he won't let any of us help, either. His comment on the whole thing: "We like it this way - other groups are just too busy and overly structured." (What the? You call planning breakfast overly structured? ) I refused to pay the $5 food fee because all DS got out of the deal was one stinkin' cup of hot cocoa. Maybe they had a big feast that night (we only stayed for one night), who knows. One thing is certain - it was dang cold out there Friday night when we camped! (30 degrees was the low, but the wind made it feel much worse!) We had oodles of blankets and an air mattress, which helped tremendously, but even then, there were times I felt a bit chilled, namely around my feet. At one point I woke up and found ds pressed up in a ball against my backside looking for heat, the poor little guy! I stuck one of those hot-hands things down his sleeping bag to help him out. When I packed up the tent the next day, I made an interesting discovery - on my tent window, I had a spider. A black spider. An actual black widow spider! In 40 years of life, I don't think I had ever actually seen one, other than a picture in a book. But sure enough, there she was. (And I do mean "was", because you can be sure that she "is" no more after I got done showing her to everyone, LOL.)
Well, lotsa work to do today. One nice thing happened Friday - my supervision gave me a reward for putting in extra sweat equity on some recent projects! Frankly, I always feel kinda embarrased getting a cash reward for what, in my opinion, I should be doing anyway in return for my salary, but hey, if they want to help line my burrow with some extra dough, who am I to complain?!? Except now I'll feel guilty if I don't keep up that same heightened measure of work... it's a vicious cycle!
Prayers to Laura and hoping a healthy heart comes their way soon...

Ug - black widows.... got bit by one of those suckers about 6 years ago...... not a fun experience!!!!!!:yuck:
I can't believe how unorganized your camp out was!!! Oldest DS is a 1st year Webelo, and they had a den campout a few weeks ago. Every kid was assigned a meal or part of a meal to be reponsible for, they had to set up their own tents, clean things, gather firewood, etc. Went off without a hitch. Of course - DH is the asst den leader, and we're freinds with the den leader - and I was on the sidelines saying "have you taken care of _______" the whole week before..... but hey - it was a good campout!!! To be that unorganized and irresponsible, and then not let the parents help take over is nuts. This guy must be truly delusional.:headbrick
Speaking of Scouting issues - as Cubmaster, exactly how much abuse do I have to take from a parent before I can start actually telling them where I really think they should go? I need that knife block with this lady's face on it!!! (great pic by the way, Susie!!!!) I seriously wish I could just tell her to take her kid to another Pack, but I know I can't do that, and it isn't the kids' fault he had to get someone like that for a parent:sosad: . B&*%$ would be a compliment.
CB - any new news on that check???
Ok - it's raining like crazy - which I love - but it makes me lazy. Kids and I didn't get up until 9am - I think we were all recovering from the sleepover finally. I also am desperately trying to get better before the Pack Meeting tomorrow night. I do not want to have to ringlead for an hour for 100 kids feeling like this! We gotta go do school.......

How 'bout them Tigers! Bring on the National League Champs, whoever dares to win! Won't matter much, both teams will be so exhausted that one look at Kenny Rogers on the mound will send either screaming for the dugout.
Anyway, almost enough sports talk, I'll forgoe an Eagles rant and keep my $5 for a more worthwhile vent later on.
I had a bit of a run-in with DS's soccer coach. A week ago he had all the boys in tears telling them they stink. Well, I finally caught up with him this Saturday and politely told him I did not appreciate his berating my 8 year old. He let me know, in no uncertain terms, it was his team and he would talk to them as he felt fit, and if I didn't like it I was free to go. I walked away refusing to pick any more of a fight with this jerk. After the game (which they lost again) DS let me know the coach apologized at half time saying that last week he should not have told them they stunk, but that he was the one who stinks for yelling at them. Not bad eh?
Here's to Laura and family...

Yes, AFMom, that campout is just one prime example of our den leadership. It's a huge step-change for me - when DS11 did his first Webelos overnighter, we made Buddy burners in the prior mtgs, and at the campout, the kids performed skits and songs, the boys cooked bacon and eggs the next day, we took a nature hike, and cranked out oodles of elements, enough to earn our outdoorsman and a few other things too. Yes we had time to play, but the boys also had a sense of what to expect, when, and in what order. As I have noted, I knew enough to know this trip would be slack, at best, but I was hoping perhaps the Boy Scout troop would provide an element of organization. THis den leader's son is in the BOy Scout troop though, and I should have known that since the den leader abhors organization, he probably would prefer his son be in a troop that has NONE. Recall that this guy gives us 24-36 hrs notice before each den mtg, with zero plan in mind of what the boys will do at the mtg. Our new Cubmaster is trying to instill some standard scouting elements into our pack mtgs (i.e. each den is responsible for something: opening, closing, skit, song, etc.) This den leader is ticked off and says the Cubmaster is "going to ruin the pack and run it into the ground, obsessing over nit-picky details." I was so ticked off at this den leader, and pressed him 3 times to tell me just what activities DID he have planned during the campout? He never did answer, and I am not sure there were ever going to be any activities, frankly. ANd yet he wouldn't so much as ask for help - he knows I've led scouts (including Webelos) before, but he refuses to let me or ANY parent help, but then complained at the end of last year that parents didn't help. WHAT? He only wants help if you go along with exactly how he wants it - which is incredibly slack and last-second. It's either his way or the highway, and honestly, I am so ready for the highway, but I don't want to hurt my son in all this, so I told DH that we should just plan "at home" scout mtgs for DS along with his el-lame-o "regular" mtgs and work on all his Webelos elements ourselves. Sort of like home-schooling for scouts, LOL. DS adores scouting, he just had the extreme misfortune of getting a really stinky den leader, and he would probably like the extra parental attention. I am leery of sending my son the message that if you don't get along with someone you just quit, so ds and I continue to put up with his pitiful scout program, and I continue to offer to help, even though I get turned down every time.
ON a side note that correlates to TW1's saga with the overbearing coach who finally ate some humble pie (even though he wouldn't admit it to an adult - you showed GREAT restraint TW1!!)... so this same den leader guy started whining about his elder son needing to leave camp to go to a soccer game. Den leader guy wanted his son to ditch the game, said it was pointless, the team would just get creamed again, and he started running down the soccer coach because the coach "doesn't DO anything with the kids" and that he didn't see the point in taking his kid to the game because the coach was such a dud.... (Noting his Scout leader skills, I thought, well WELCOME TO MY WORLD! Pot, meet the Kettle!!) But this guy kept ranting, so after hearing enough of this to make my rodent eyes roll, I spoke up, "So what coach DO you like, Jim? I've heard you rant about this son's baseball coach, that son's soccer coach, year after year. When our sons played on that soccer team together last fall, they had one of the best coaches in the league, and yet you didn't like him either - I am just wondering - is there ANY coach you DO like?" Well, he stammered around a bit, didn't answer me, and so I asked if he had coached any - answer, no. I then continued, "...because the way I see it, you hated last year's coach because he wanted to win too much, and this year's coach because he's too laid back. THis year's coach doesn't yell enough, last year's coach yelled too much. I've never heard you commend a coach or say anything positive yet. Bad coaches do happen, and so do bad sports. What I always tell people who have THAT many issues with THAT many coaches is - until you're willing to get out there and offer the alternative - to roll up your shirt sleeves and run drills, break the sweat, and be a positive influence, or at the very least, support the coach with some form of positive reinforcement, you haven't earned the right to complain."
I am sure I am really not popular with this guy right now... it doesn't help that their family just recently left our church, and he probably thinks my outburst was just sour grapes because he pulled his kids out of the church and the CCD program (which I am in charge of) at of course the 11th hour (along with his wife who is/was the 1st grade CCD teacher). Honestly, that didn't phase me at all - I would have left too if guilt hadn't dragged me back to the pew, and it's not his wife's / kids fault he's a jerk. My sour grapes stem from his general attitude, combined with his lack of planning and consistently low effort level. If he doesn't want to put forth effort, so be it - but he wants to stand in the way of those who do and then grump about it. Everything should be one great big laid-back last minute fiesta with any short-comings the fault of someone else, I guess.

TW, maybe thanks to your politely phrased assessment, the coach was able to admit to himself that he had been wrong...and even better, to admit it to the kids.
That in itself says a lot about this man, and about you, that instead of 'getting into it' you allowed him time for reflection. Way to go!
I don't think the den leader should be a den leader since kids at that age learn behaviors through modeling. Perhaps TW could talk to him too!:hahahaha: Or we could lure him into the Nothing Bus and then........bwahaha!

Have a super duper trip nono. Save some wine for me!
Nothing new here, just licking my fingers from Wendy's fries after a loooong day at work. I did get some good news today. I am off.......drum roll please......Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day! I am looking forward to Christmas all ready. Last Christmas was such a blur with my cousin dying right before it. Won't have any money to spend though, as our homeowners, taxes have skyrocketed and are due in Dec, oh yeah, MF's due. I told Mr. Roz this year we making each other popcicle houses! :slyasafox
Love the knife set Susie!! Should we set up a corkboard in the closet, and take turns putting our enemies pictures on it?? Nice target practice, I'm second behind CB!!!!!!!! Whoa, look at CB throw that knife, yikes, she means business!! :bugeyed:

When I was a golfer, I had a particularly nasty boss. When I'd go to the range for practice, I always pictured his head on the golf ball. It was amazing how far and how straight I could hit 'em while picturing his face there!

Carrie you beat me to the awesome news!! I actually had a message on the phone from Laura last night, and didn't get it till' this morning. She said all the crossmatching was complete and successful, and he was going to surgery last night. It was without a doubt the most wonderful message my machine ever had the opportunity to hold! Major Prayers for Laura's dad, hopefully we will hear soon how it went. Like Carrie said, and Laura said, he has a fighting chance now.
I think the hero who donated his/her heart deserves our finest applause also! :sunny:

I got a lot of nothin' going on today...reading...re-reading my list. figuring out how to pack legally. Had a major senior moment today as I dragged my big bag downstairs...I thought - wow this is kinda heavy. Weighed it -- close to 44 lbs. OH NO...domestic have 44 lb. weight limit for bags! What to do...what to do....
Then I checked Continental's website...it's 50 lbs. in domestic economy per bag. 44 lbs. is domestic in China...not U.S. It's official. I've traveled too much and my brain is too old. :faint:

Well......I have some news........
I been looking for a new job, well, kinda. My whole heart isn't in it. Fumbled around in the Sunday paper, and applied for a 16 week surgical (OR) internship at Mobile Infirmary. (25 min away vs 55 min). I talked with their recruiter last week, and she said the internship starts on the day I leave for vacation in Jan with Mr. Roz for his 35th--ressies at AKL conceirge with the safari's, BW view for a week, in borrowed points. :bagovermy (I did not say there was a conflict, but there was for sure a long pause)
It would be a very very different type job, working in the OR. I would be a M-F worker, with a alternating weekend call. At where I work now, the OR nurses get there at 6am and leave at 3pmish. Vacation trips would be very very different. Much fewer. Maybe, maybe 2 a year. Which can be good, as we could stay the entire week in a 1BR, and save money on fewer trips.
Not to be long winded, but I have to admit, I've gotten lazy, and 5 days a week kinda throws me off. I like longer hours and less days a week. But the drive is killing me. Well not killing me, but kinda gets old. So conflicted I decided to just ignore the decision, till' they called me this morning for a interview appt. uhhgg. Monday Oct 23 1000 am. ughh. :blech: To think of losing lose points. 80 pts!! Maybe I could rent the ressie? But to be truthful, I have not had the warm fuzzies with the renting process. I do have a stretch of days off in Dec, mid Dec, I could do a solo Christmas trip on the points, but finding availablity would be a major long shot.
On the bright side, it would be nice to go into a interview not desperate, knowing if they say NO way Jose, I go to Disney. :cool2: I'm sick at my stomach in knots thinking of all of it. On one hand, it would better my career, and be challenging in itself. I don't do well with change. :headbrick

awwww nono, your the best bartender ever!! *pulls up a bar stool*
so far I have...
PLUS
*getting off the floor, no more wiping butts
*no more breaking up family member fights (nothing calls it a day like breaking up a girlfriend vs. wife fight)
*More money (possibly, haven't had a offer yet, but for sure more hours)
*More skills learned, which means more opportunities in future
*less commute, but miles should stay the same since I would be working more days a week
*more respect, there is a heirachy in the nursing world, and my position now is right above a Nursing Home nurse. Floor nurses get NO respect.
MINUS
*more hours, less days off, less vacation time
*More money (I know weird, but without kids, I always think more taxes)
*see Mr Roz less. Weekends off, him a restaurant manager **note, he says go for the job, and I would see him at night, he is usually home at 5pm during the week**
*up close and personal with surgeons under stress :blech:
*lose 80 points
awwwwwww. I feel better now, and but still confused as ever, LOL. :hahahaha:

Well, maybe we could all help tackle a few of the concerns on the minus list.
Re income taxes: You said on another thread that you save about 10% in retirment. I think they've upped the amounts for IRAs and 401k...so if there is an increase, couldn't ya use the tax deduction for upping those retirement contributions and thereby equalize taxes?
Re 80points: I'm kinda in the same boat re the 24 points I cancelled on the BWV without a 31 day notice. My use year is February 1, so I have to use these points by Jan 31 as I understand it. So you would have until your use year to use up your 80, right? I DO rent and find it an easy peasey process. (That's how I met my traveling bud, Pam) . If you need to rent your points, I think it would be super easy...and since I only have 24, if I 'need' more to rent, instead of borrowing to fulfill a request, I may call on you!
Finally, since there seems to be quite a nursing shortage everywhere, I'm wondering if you would be able to negotiate a few more weeks of unpaid vacation time into your contract. I firmly believe in vacations, more in the European tradition, for mental health.
Hope ya don't mind my input Rozfriend....I too am reluctant to 'change' the status quo and sometimes just need more input to help me make a decision!!

Vacation time tends to be negotiable. Negotiate! Make them give you at least what you have now.
Try it for a year. If you cdon't like it, you've got great experience on your resume!

Hey, Rozzie, I know I haven't been here, but with a cold reading of your pros and cons, I'm thinking the pros really outweigh the cons. Granted, that's my value system, not yours, and obviously, your life, so your opinion gets to count slightly more than mine, lol, but I don't think your cons are very connish. I mean, more taxes, yes, but more money to pay them too, and therefore more money. My financial guy always says you should thank your lucky stars if taxes are a big deal because it means you're making enough to have them be a big deal.
As far as I can see, vacation is your biggest issue, since that's a big lifestyle change (we've been kicking around the same issues) but I'm agreeing with the others - talk to them about it and see if there's wiggle room.

Nono, hope I didn't miss your departure yet. Have a fantastic time!!! We'll try to manage the bar here while you're gone. ;)
Rozzie, I really don't know what to say about the possible new job! Sounds like it could be a great opportunity but not if you aren't happy there. What happens after the internship period is over? Would it still be similar hours? Working at the same location? Good luck to you in making that decision!! How's Inky doing? Is she home? :goodvibes
Ahhh the birthday party expenses...yep....welcome to NY! It's disgusting the prices they charge around here for everything. I wish I could find a party place for less than $200!!
Definately not getting enough sleep here lately. I was writing out the envelopes for DS's thank yous and forgot my in-laws names! Almost started crying this morning while watching a DVD about the CARES restraint. (It's that new restraint for small children for the airplanes. I bought one for DD and it seems great so far.) They had a really short about 1 minute long section on how to undo the restraint if there is an emergency and my tears started welling up. :idontgeti Ok, it probably doesn't help that DS has been asking about 9/11 alot lately and where we were and stuff. Snapped at a woman at the mall who was being rude to me first (which is usually very unlike me LOL) I'm afraid to take DS to his religion classes today! It's just never a good idea to put a cranky, tired woman in a big traffic mess in the rain outside a Church during the dinner time rush. :goodnevil
Hope everyone else is having a better day!!:goodvibes

Inky isn't home yet, but I am going to go see her tomorrow with Mr. Roz. I am beginning to think the longer she says confined in her small area via the hospital, the better for her. I think her risks are less there than here.
Thanks everyone for all the great feedback on the job. We'll see how it goes on Monday. Unfortunely, hospitals usually don't negitoate vacation time. But I plan on being very upfront and honest about what I want. :) So if I blow the interview, oooops! :slyasafox Seriously I know I need to do something different, and I really need a challange in my life to get my butt in gear. Rozzie~ I wish you the best of luck. It's always great to go on an interview when you still have another job....the pressure is kinda off....you can sell yourself in the interview, but you don't have the pressure of HAVING to find a job as you would if you were unemployed (you don't sound desperate). You'll have a clearer view after the interview. But, if it's everything you want (even w/o the vacation), I would definately take the job. BUT, like Stimpy said...do what makes you happy!!! You don't want to take a job that you'll be unhappy in. Looking back at what I just wrote, I don't think I helped at all! Sorry!

J- so great to see you posting! We've missed you. I'll have to run over and check out the new song!
Rozzie- so sorry about inky. I couldn't even bring myself to tell Addison.:sosad: I hope this time things stick. About the new job.... what happens after the internship? Are the hours the same? I just know (from the few times we've been together), that you really enjoy your time with Mr. Rozzie. The hours seem like they are going to be just the opposite of his. Plus there is the possibility that your going to work the 5 days and then be called in for the weekend, right? I understand your desire to be able to do something else. I can completely understand being tired of wiping butts!:hahahaha: I myself have had about 10 years practice here at our house. Hopefully, we will all be progressing along soon...... Anyway, I know that you desire to move along, I just don't want to take this job and then a few weeks later be miserable. Besides, you forgot to list, loss of lunch time with mouseowner friends on your con list!:hahahaha: On the plus side, the extra money would be nice. I have a friend that works over there. I think she is in cardiac cath and surgery. If you want me to put you in touch with her, PM me and I'll give your # to her. Maybe she can give you some inside info on MI. I do know that when she is on call, she has exactly 25 minutes to be in the hospital. She was standing around a few nights ago at church (still in her scrubs, because she had been at work all day) and left her purse on the pew. When she realized she didn't have it with her she ran to get it. Sure enough, she was paged 8 minutes prior. She ran out the door leaving her husband there with us. We had to take him home from church (not a big deal). When I asked her the next time I saw her about the page, she said she drove like a maniac across the bayway and was still few minutes late. She said she got lucky, because the patient was still in transport and she beat them there, thank goodness, or she would have been in trouble. I'm just wondering, are you currently tied to a pager? Would that be an adjustment for you? I really not trying to sound negative, I hope it doesn't come across that way.
Well our trip to the mountains was mostly fun. Staying at DH's parents house was a real well.... experience. I'll have to tell ya'll all about it later. Just picture Chevy Chase in Christmas vacation and you'll be really close to picturing our "vacation"!
Gotta run Addison to preschool.....

LOL, Stimpy, I feel your pain. I recall being extremely sleep-deprived one Sunday morning, much as you described too (rainy, tired, hassle just getting out of the house kind of deal). We get into church, and right during a prayer, the little Cheerio container we used developed a malfunction and Cheerios went everywhere all over the tile floor. Before I knew what had happened, I said, "Da** it!" then right after, "I mean, err, darn it...." Fortunately, the only people who heard it were the young couple in front of us, who were trying to hard not to laugh to give us any grief about it! I think the guy did utter back sarcastically, "Oh well now that's just REAL NICE!" And I think it was Amish country - amongst the Godly, LOL - where my DS (then 3) decided to say his first "repeat" of an expletive he heard Mommy say two days prior when some car nearly caused our demise. We arrive at this Amish store, the van door opens (causing his sippy cup to tumble out onto the ground) and he says the expletive nice and loud and proud. Yeah, just like the guy said, nice.... REAL NICE. :bagovermy
I musta been sleep-deprived yesterday and not known it, because I flaked out at 9 pm! Didn't wake up until the alarm this morning at 6:30. Very un-like me, I have to say. Kids are all excited about trying out for this year's Xmas play parts at school. DS11 is trying out for the lead, and keep your fingers crossed. Per usual, he's up against some very assertive kids. One of them I could easily see giving him stiff competition, but the other I just don't get. THis kid gets lead roles in every play, and for the life of me, I can't understand a word he says. He has a very gravelly voice, and monotone with no real expression. And waytoo fast. Can't understand a word he says. There's no doubt he learns his lines. I teach various courses at the school each year and this kid is no doubt an aggressive over-achiever type. But for the life of me, I can't understand how he lands some of these play parts, because it doesn't seem to be his forte'. THe teacher is just really wowed by him, I guess. Last year DS11 won out for a part they both tried out for, but the year before that, this other kid got the "choice" part. Oh well, whatever will be will be, and DS11 knows that and is ok with it, so I'm thankful for that at least. We make lousy show-biz parents, LOL!
Anxiously waiting for more news from Laura. THis whole experience has really made me think more and more about a college friend who is on the list for a double lung/heart transplant - I am really hoping for her sake and her family that something will come her way as well. It truly is a shame that good people suffer from the exhaustion of their own bodies while the seemingly "heartless" can keep on ticking. Same thing with kids - how many couples yearn for a child while some women toss theirs away or abuse them. I always recall that line from the movie "Parenthood" when Keanu Reeves notes you have to have a license to own a business or drive a car or vote, but anyone with a working set of reproductive organs can be a parent. Just like anyone with a working set of valves and arteries gets to live, huh. Not only is Life not fair, neither is Death.
Uh oh - I'm waxing the philosophical now, pull out, pull out, wayyyy too deep for a "nothing thread"! :Paranoid: Say the magic words and click my heels together three times....

HI al! Been out all morning, but had this e-mail in my box, from Laura, so I wanted to pass it on:
At work for a few minutes this morning and thought I would update you (and everyone else if you don’t mind sharing). Dad is doing very well. They are weaning him off of the medicine that he is getting through his ventilator today that is lowering the pulmonary pressures (heart/lung stuff) and will see how he does. As long as those pressures stay good, they will get him completely off that by tomorrow morning and will start weaning him from the vent itself. The plan at the present time is to wake him on Thursday and that is good since it has been the plan since his surgery, so he is doing VERY well. A small fever today, but that is normal - - - otherwise, everything looks really good. The heart started up on the first try after the surgery and it is pumping strong still. We have rejection possibilities that they will test for weekly for the next month (then every other week…every 3 weeks…etc) but they have lots of medicines and possibilities if that isn’t working so well. Still not in the clear, but so amazing much better.
This is simply a miracle. I can’t tell you how much the support from everyone in thought, prayers and emails means to me. Thank you for being there.
Rozzie

Thanks Carrie for the posting the update. I have been so tempted to call her, but I don't want to be bothersome. That is super news, she is right, this is a miracle. Modern medicine really is absolutely amazing. I think of Laura and her dad all the time.
Erin, you really really brought up some good points about the job. I think I have almost talked myself out of the OR. Then I read your post, and it almost sealed the deal for me. What the heckers was I thinking? My interview on Monday ought to be real intresting now, LOL. :grouchodi Nothing like interviewing for a job you DON'T want. I just don't think I could do the M-F thing. It would be heaven for a parent, but my life would adjust really weird like. Plus, been thinking all day, what's the only reward I get out of my job. Interaction with patients. I can barely stand the surgeons on rounds, how would I deal with dealing with them all the time?? I am still going Monday, and just listen to what she has to say. Maybe they have another opening, something different, maybe ICU or such, but not WAY 180 degree different. Thanks for the good thoughts on Inky. She is coming home Sat night. Dr. returned our call today, and we made the decision to not go see her today on our day off. It is soooooo hard to leave her there after our visits, and she gets upset to see us, then us leave. Well to be honest, she gets real upset to see "daddy" leave. Daddy's girl fo' sure. BTW, I really want to ther about the trip, and the national lampoon mountain house!
LOL Gopher on the Amish present profanity. I got a Amish story, not quite as funny as yours. My mom was in a Amish home, looking at quilts (they were selling them out of their workshop in their home) and she's all looking at them, and blares out "where is the lightswitch it is way dark in here" as she fumbles on the wall for the lightswitch. Just the way she tells the story cracks us up...:tilt:
just poking in from the corporate dungeon...
Thanks for posting Laura's updates. Here's for wishing for continued success for this miracle...
The wonders of modern medicine never cease to amaze me.

Hi all!
Great news on Laura's dad - truly amazing.....
DS 10 has been wearing an event monitor lately for his heart. He'd been having weird rhythms and they were making him feel bad. We finally got one recorded - he has some sort of atrial arrythmia - which isn't so bad. He's going to go to e pediatric cardiologist - hopefully next week. But I'm glad we know what's going on!
I get to fly again tomorrow!!! Spouses day at the squadron again. I absolutely can't wait!!!! I'll fill you all in tomorrow night....
Yep, J - we're almost to Friday. I have to go Cub Scout camping without DH - and with an extra 10 yo..... so I'm not actually looking forward to the weekend much. Especially since I haven't gotten any laundry done - I don't even have a packing list yet... Arg!
Ok - back to grilling chicken for dinner.... anyone want some?

After much aggrevation and a few tears, I can finally connect my laptop to my wireless router!!!!! (OK, so I'm using it while sitting at my desktop desk, but it's just the point of it now.) Guess what? The security feature I picked oes not work with WIndows 2000. Shouldn't they hav entoed if a certain feature only works with a certain windows?????? Here's a 5 for teh vent jar!
j - good luck with Thursday!
Ginger - 3 weeks?????????????????? I only go 5 to 6 btwn cuts. That's innsane. I totally understand why she canceled, but by the time I have my cut scheduled, I neeeed my cut1
BTW, fora nyone who recalls my saga with findign a new person, I love the one I'm at! I think it's been 3 cuts adn I'm back to gettign compliments from strangers again! Yay!
Rozzie - I've only toaked to Laura on teh phone when I set up my trip to GA last year, but I'm thinking I need to call. Probably will wait until at least teh weekend, though. I even worry abotu bothering her with e-mails, but I think a celebration call is in order!

A miracle!
Joy to the World!
Still sending as much positive energy to Laura's dad to help with recovery...Hip Hip Hooray!
The check's in the mail....to my PO Box. Even if it is made out to us both, I still have a joint account hehhehheh.
Snow is on the ground. Think it is here to stay. Can't say I'm ready for it, cuz I'm not. Need to start planning trips to warm weather islands!
I think Erin made some excellent points also, Roz. Now how did she get so smart???? Maybe this will actually help with the interview; it will be apparent to the interviewER that you need to be talked into considering their offer...might just improve their offer! I think surgeons might be less arrogant, less difficult when IN surgery than when out of it, don't you? So if you are spending most of your time with them IN surgery, maybe it would actually be better. Who needs those hours tho? Ick!!!!Take nine to five and shove it!
Carrie, the router is doing wonders for your spelling :Pokepoke:
I hear you on the router security. I spent the better part of a week, up late at night to work in getting my wireless up and running. All went swimmingly after it was set-up, until the hard drive crashed and I had to get a new one (under warranty though) and I had to start all over again, reinstalling everything! Did I write down the password for the router? Of course not!
Anyway, more corporate dungeon today...

2 more sleeps until WDW. Anyone want to help me pack? I've got a few things set out, but not much.
Carrie, why is haircutting such a hard thing. You find someone you like and then something happens and you have to start over again. I do like this lady and don't have time or want to find someone else. It always takes trying 3 or 4 before you find 1 you like. If SSR spa did hair cuts, I would be tempted to get one while I'm there. But they don't and I don't want to go to Y&BC. Doesn't Bavaria get her hair cut at WDW?
Foggy day today.

Yeah, it's the router. Nothign to do with using a lap top keyboard. ;) Sorry about your hard drive!!!! I'm blaming my problems on tjkraz who said to be sure to protect your wireless. Do you recall my tears from locking myself out of my laptop trying to connect? :p
Kristy - Glad ds' heart is nothing too bad. Still no good to have to deal with.
Ginger - I think Bavaria does get her cut at WDW. I got mine cut on DCL one time. Loved it. Made the search for someone new even harder, though. I don't think I could do my cut once a year adn right now, I think that's all the WDW time I get. The person I have now owns teh shop. SO, I *should * be safe for a bit. CAn I tell you how odd it is tho have the person who does my hair comment on taking her Land ROver into the shop? Am I still supposed to tip her? ;) (Her husbands a pretty major realtor.developer in the area.) Hope you can hang on for those 3 weeks!

J is at 37 with her very pretty song!
Soozay, great job by you and Harry on the walk this weekend! Glad you surpassed your goals!
CB.....lalalalalalala....not hearing the snow part!!!:brrrrrr: Glad to hear you have a chance at the check atleast before the ex gets his hands on it.
Kristy, I'm so happy for you and your family that you are getting answers for your DS. Atleast now you can start to move forward. Have a great time flying tomorrow :cheerlead
Rozzie, let's just say I wish I could be a fly on the wall on Monday  Remember to do what's best for YOU! Not visiting Inky must have been so hard you and Mr Rozzie but I'm sure it was the best thing. Give her a little time to recuperate so you can bring her home and spoil her rotten
And thanks to Gopher, I have a new mantra....
"There's no beer like Yuengling... there's no beer like Yuengling... there's no beer like Yuengling...." :lmbo:
We went to a concert last night which was great! Too bad it was all the way in NJ and we had to drive there and back through mega NY traffic. But as a bonus, we did get to see the NYC skyline at night which always gets me excited. There is just nothing like seeing the Empire State building all lit up surrounded by the other pretty lights...to me anyway LOL As often as we get to see it, I still love it.
We had 7th row seats at the show, I'm thinking this is great! Best seats we ever had and it was for MY fave band. (Never got seats like that for U2 :fresh: ) Until the dingdangdern 7 foot tall guy came and sat right smack in front of 5'3 me. Of course he stood through the whole show so I now have a pain in my neck from trying to see around him all night.
Speaking of dern U2.....this really obnoxious guy and his "mistress" sat down next o me about 5 minutes before the show and totally ticked me off. (Yep, mistress....guy was in his 50's, she was 20's. him wedding ring, her none. He called wife while GF was in bathroom to tell her he was hanging out with Joe! And the big giveaway was when he told GF she needed to pretend she was his wife since he saw a client/coworker a few rows back and she knew he was married but never met the wife  ) Anyhoo...the guy sits down and says rather obnoxiously loud how these were the "fan club area seats. That's why we are sitting with all the drug addicts & losers!" Then adds "It's not like this at U2, only people like us can get seats like this at THEIR shows!" (Well ok, for $300 a person at U2 for those seats....) But the drug addict/loser thing really PO'd me! Looking around there were actually quite a few parents with their kids, college students/recent grad looking people, older guys who were talking about their kids and the Mets (which I refuse to discuss! LOL), the giant in front of me and his friends all were still wearing their suits from what appeared to be Wall Street type jobs..... hmm... I must have missed the dregs of society that were there
But the show itself was awesome

FWIW, Carrie, she might need that tip more than you know, LOL . Land Rovers are pretty crappy. My friend just made the dealer take hers back (after being over 51 days without a car because they coudln't get parts ofr it!), and a colleague downstairs was more than happy to get a few thousand for hers after it blew up - yes blew up - and was only like 3 yrs old. They (Land Rover dealer) told her it was a "flaw" and "lots of them were doing that" and if they repaired it, it would "most likely do it again". The fact they each paid big bucks for the car mattered diddly squat when it came time to sell them - MAJOR depreciation - my friend took a real soaking on that deal. I love my Toyota....
Speaking of which, gotta take the rascal to the shop to get the tailight put in. DH (whose mechanical abilities are in direct conflict with his desire to save money) broke ours trying to replace a light. :sosad: I love that man, but about the only thing he can fix is a sandwich.... and that ain't so hot, either, according to the kids who prefer when I pack their lunches! I always suspected he married me for my brain... which is a good thing, considering what three kids have done to this gopher body o'mine.
Busy busy day in the burrow. Work, then girl scouts at 3, soccer at 5. Never have gotten my fall decor up - and at this poitn, I swear I would skip it and jump into xmas, but DH's DB and his fam are SUPPOSED to be visiting us the 1st wkend in November - yep, they are going to try to make the drive again. I'll believe it when I see it. Nonetheless, it's more a matter of principle to me - I just can't get excited about xmas decor until AFTER thanksgiving. So DH brought up the fall stuff last night, and I promised I would get that stuff out and about the burrow today. UGH.
I was vying hard for World's Greatest Mom yesterday, at least in my house, LOL. DH had his investment club mtg (which he had forgotten about). He was all bummed, saying he had hoped to take the kids shopping for basketball shoes and pizza, and maybe pick up "Over The Hedge." So instead, he went to his meeting, and I got to take the kids to do all that! Yep, they were lovin' life last night, LOL. We just got a new Kohl's, right by our WalMart and Pizza Hut, so it was like (almost) one-stop shopping. Everyone was happy. DH came home just in time to see Over the Hedge. I swear, that turtle is just like my older son, and Hammie is my middle boy. One so very tenative and protecting, and the other, all wild-eyed and impetuous. Too cute.

Latest from Laura:
They are waking dad up today. So far so good but will probably be difficult. He has been out for over a week so they are going slow. Will keep you updated. I think that's right on schedule! Yay! There's a huge difference when your loved one is at least awake. Such a comfort even thought he's by no means out of the woods.

As someone who works in the parts business (I just do the accounting stuff, know nothing about cars), I agree. We sell a lot of parts for LR, especially the older ones.
Carrie, I don't get the whole tipping thing either, other than at restaurants. I know there gets to be big heated debates about tipping on "that other board." My lady said that you don't tip the owner. So since she's the owner, I do as she says.

At my place you pay each person individually. They only take cash or check. I've very small, no check out person.

OK, JimC posted a link to a tipping website, of course I forgot to coppy it. ANyway, ehre's what it says:
one operator 15% of bill
several operators 10% of bill to person who sets hair; 10% divided among others
manicurist $1 or more, depending on cost
owner none unless he / she is doing your hair, then follow above rules
person who shampoos or washes hair $1 to $2

Scouts was a near disaster - we were doing science experiments, and they went seriously wrong, which is actually pretty funny given what I do for a profession, LOL. I wasn't in charge of getting the stuff, though ,and had voiced my concern at the get-go as I thought one of the raw ingredients was not correct - guess I was right. To make matters worse, the custodian of our school absolutely hyperventilates if you make so much as a speck of dust. We always clean up our messes, but if he had seen this, he would have FREAKED OUT for sure. Pink and gren goo as far as the eye could see, and powder and liquids and such strewn everywhere. Yikes. THe other leader and I quickly learned that when it comes to science, 2 adults to 12 girls is NOT an adequate ratio! To diffuse the custodial angst, we ended up having an adult go "chit-chat" with him outside the building to hold him at bay and give us a chance to clean up, just so he wouldn't come in and see what a great big gloppy mess we had made. :innocent: At least we didn't have soccer tonight - DH took the kids, and returned in about 10 minutes as the bottom dropped out of the sky - practice cancelled. So we had a nice lazy evening tonight, ate left over pizza nad spaghetti, watched some TV, a nice change of pace from the usual weekday chaos. Can't believe tomorrow's Friday already - back on Monday, it couldn't come soon enough, now I sit here thinking where the poo did the week go?!?
Majorly crazy days at work for me lately. Big restructuring in our work group in the very near future, and in 24 hrs I was hit up 3 times by various folks from another division of our company, all wanting to know if I planned to "switch" to their division, telling me to look at the recent job postings over there, they needed
