Hubby says go for it. It is worth $150 difference in the hotel rooms not to have to drive, to get the FoTH priviledges and to be in a much nicer hotel (not that I mind All Stars, but upper class they ain't :beaniepro )

Now, I wonder if we are going to have to buy one annual pass in October when we are down for the halloween party to have it at check in or if I can show them a "certificate" and promise to bring back my active AP the next day if I wait until December. Wasting 6 weeks on an AP doesn't appeal to me, but neither does standing there at midnight playing "dumb tourist" when I KNOW better.

What to do ...what to do....

Did someone say snacks? I'll share my cottage cheese, apple, and chicken.

Cottage cheese: Okay, the milk is spoiled, throw it away.Don't slap a new name on it and sell it as a "healthy snack".

Apple: Making hard cider ? Great. Big crust pie with ice cream on top ? Super. Eating it by itself ? Puh Leaze ! Why waste the enamel on your teeth.

Chicken: Chickens are good for only two things. Alive, their only usefull purpose is to lay eggs with fatty, flavorfull, beautiful yolks. Dead, pillow stuffing.

Laura, I have some bad news........

Once you stay at PBH, you are going to be spoiled and pampered beyond belief. It will ruin you! ;) That is a awesome rate for PBH, the best one I could squeeze out of OCT was $199 standard. The place is incredible, really.

So, Ms. Snooty Snoot gains another one for her team (evil laugh), so who else wants to come to the DARK SIDE?? :darthvade

I haven't called them back, but I am soon. You evil evil woman!!! :D

(I must have the hotel wrong Rozzie...but I will let you know when I call back because this hotel, the normal cheapest rate at this place is 199 without a discount)

Just so hard to resist the price of those AP's versus the 7 day pass we were about to buy and staying there will be so nice and getting the FoTH for two days :) There is just so much to do! I think we wont tell the boys and keep it for a surprise! FoTH will help greatly having PJ so that Chuck or I can take one boy and then the other one on rides quickly (the child swap thing at WDW is a joke - you are supposed to go through the regular line FIRST and then use the fast pass when the first adult gets out of the regular line - fair to other people I suppose...but you are better off either only one adult and child riding or just getting fast passes for the whole family at once and not using the child swap).

Gotta call back and do the transaction. I feel so dirty....so naughty hehehehe

Dark side here we come!

Rozzie - I did have the wrong hotel It is the Royal Pacific. I suspect we will end up going to Universal on the Sat after the halloween party at WDW since I have to pay to park to get in there to get the electronic ticket because I am told they can't check you in without an actual AP so I can't wait until Dec. We have to buy my niece a one day ticket to WDW so what is the difference. She has been to the dark side before so I won't get blamed for contaminating her.

The deed is done. Hotel reserved. Disney man was not happy when I cancelled there. Annual passes bought!

Laura, my DH is about as tight as size 6X spandex on a 6-ton elephant, but even HE will tell ya - FOTL at US/IOA ROCKS! :kickingco He didn't blink an eye at the HRH rate I got, LOL, after we enjoyed the pleasures of FOTL. That said, we ALL agreed that PBH would be our ideal resort - the kids loved the pool there! While HRH was very nice in terms of proximity, we had to admit - we just ain't hard-rockin material. Frankly, I agree with my DS - there really IS something disconcerting about waking up to see a pensive Hendrix and drugged out Morrison staring back at you. PBH seemed like much more our sort of place!

We really really lucked out - I was able to get for our trip the buy one adult ticket / get one kid ticket (5 days, both parks) for $99 for the pair. Used the adult tix for DH and DS11, then the other 2 kids used the kid tix. I then got a sweet Bealls deal on a 2 yr premium AP for $179. With what I saved using it for our hotel rates and food (10-15%) and souvenirs (20%), wow - I'm still doing the math on that, but let's just say I paid for the pass within the first day! :woohoo:

BTW - What type room is that? You guys are still in the 2 beds is otay category, LOL, right? Ahh, the good ol days!! I keep tellin' my sister to go online and check rates - she is planning to hit the Dark side on their Dec vacation, but she was thinking about hitting it while still over at OKW. I think she would have a better time over at one of the on-site hotels, but what do I know - I live in a dirt hole, fer cryin out loud. Nonetheless, we were able to get a Deluxe 2Q / 1 sleeper sofa @ HRH for a rate of $219, I think (weekday, anyway - think it went to $249 on the wkend). Of course, our kids are a bit older than yours, so we need that 3rd bed, and deluxe was just so much more preferable than dragging in some sort of cot (to the tune of an extra $25 per night, no thank you very much) or getting another room. Next time we go, I will possibly consider trying club level - it wasn't that much more. One nice thing about US/IOA - the park itself is quite small. You can cover it all pretty quickly - especially with FOTL. We had no problems leaving mid-day to go swim - whereas at WDW, we always have difficulty leaving a park because we have a FP in hand, or want to try to get to one more ride, or man, by the time we take the bus back, then return.... we usually end up splitting up w/ one parent taking the wearies back to the villa and another staying behind. But not at US/IOA - we were pretty much all ready to go! I will say, though - by day 3, we had not only done all we came to do.... we had done it like, a bazillion times. Ok, not a bazillion, but in DS10's case, he did ride the Hulk 11 times. And I am pretty sure we ALL rode Spiderman at least that many times, and did DUdley's 3 times, and the barges 3 times, MIB about 8 times, BTTF about 5 times, Shrek 3 or 4 times, Jimmy Neutron 4 times... get the idea? And that's in addition to still doing everything else at least once. The "non-FOTL" folks were waiting sometimes 40-60 minutes for some of these rides. UGH. Well, except Curious George. When we were there, we were on our way to eat, and I knew there would be GREAT complaining about being wet during dinner.... so I skirted them around it. Then we never went back over that way the next day.... or the next. They played at the front part of it, but never went in all the way to it. I'm sure they would have enjoyed it, but then I would have dealt with the whines of 3 very soggy urchins. (I am SUCH a BAD mommy!) Well, just one more reason to go back, sez I. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that while I have no idea how "bad" it would be without FOTL, it was so awesome with FOTL that you may find you don't need nearly as many days as you might think. Plus - a lot of the rides are height-prohibitive. You have that one little pod of "stuff" over at US and then the Seuss stuff over at IOA for the vertically-challenged folks, but other than that, many of the rides were either height-restricted or deemed "scary" in nature, whatever - not quite as toddlerish as , say, MK. Just something to consider!

Hmmm... this post isn't NEARLY long enough. Anybody got a long, boring dossier (sans any pictures at all or hieroglyphics or runic inscriptions, please) on the ancient history of Norway and its people that I could attach? Teeny-tiny monochromatic type in one big honkin' text file preferred. :slyasafox

Gopher, have to agree with you on HRH. We went over there and had a drink at the bar to get a feel for the place, and decided it wasen't relaxing enough for us. Lots of gogogo and energy, and loud music and teenagers. PBH is heaven for us. RPH we got a great rate on, and we have walked around the resort, had dinner and drinks and thought it was quite lovely. Mr Roz calls it the POLY on steroids. So agree with you on the touring style of IOA/US, lots of time for down time, swimming, shopping, long naps, eating FAB food, etc. FOTL really is awewsome!

So Susie, what did you miss....mmnn, let's see......

I know it is late to finally be reporting in but I did not get home until after 8pm! My Dad is doing very well considering. He felt really bad when he first woke up around 1:15 pm but when I left the hospital around 7:30 pm, his pain was under control and he was feeling decent. After 2 hours with no pain meds, I called his doctors office and reported the hospital for not getting his meds started! They were very shocked and it did make a difference in how they have treated him the rest of the day...

We will find out about the lymph nodes etc in 48 hours; I hope that means by Friday noon or so! Thanks for all your healing prayers and wishes :beatinghe

Lisa - good for you, being assertive re: the meds! Good he has you at least vying for him! Hoping for the best possible outcome from the testing for you, your dad and family.... :grouphug:

Got some decent news re: the friend/coworker in the rafting accident - his blood oxygen is up around 87% now (they set a goal of 90 so he's close to that!) and they identified the bacteria in the water in his lungs so they can now treat that (he had developed infection - recall that technically, he had "drowned" and was under for about 4 minutes, they estimate. Lovely river water.) They were hoping to drain some of the fluid from his body soon. It sounds gross but it's truly all positive news, so we all keep hoping and praying, praying and hoping. The other injured person has been at work this week, and today our group bought her flowers. Frankly, had I been her, I would have appreciated the flowers and card, but NOT a bunch of people hoarded around me. I would still be feeling self-conscious and emotionally on edge, so I asked the folks organizing if they thought that was the "best" thing to do prior to giving her the flowers. Well, they still went ahead with the "mass assembly" of our group (about 15 people) to give the flowers to her - so there we were, all stuffed in one office, with her thrust into the middle of it. I can actually say I was relieved when our plant alarm sounded for a fire drill! I wasn't uncomfy for myself - I mean, I've seen injuries before, I'm not stitches-squeamish or anything. I was just uncomfy for her, given the circumstances. She took it well, though.

I was supposed to go back into work tonight, but DH is pretty ill with a nasty cold or flu or something, so I elected to stay home - just got done doing what DH normally does around the house in the evening and morning so his night and start of tomorrow would be a bit easier. It will make my tommorrow really busy, but oh well. Ironically, despite how bad DH sounds, I know he will still go to work tomorrow. No matter how I might insist, DH is not one to ever take a sick day, so God help his poor coworkers. One time he had stomach flu and had to be hospitalized - I am not kidding, he had me pick him up the next day from teh hospital and take him to WORK! I should add that our company has "great pride" in their safety statistics... so much so, that there is "great pressure" to not be the one that "wrecks" the numbers. Knowing what goes on in the name of those numbers (i.e., having a hosptialized man show up for work just so it doesn't count as a lost workday) only leads me to think the numbers are totally bogus. But you didn't hear me say (or type) that. I'll deny it.

Well, time to re-medicate DH and grab a few winks. Viking - it must be the late hour, but when I read your post:

NaNa NaNa Boo Bage

...all I could think of was the song they play at the end of sports events when the winner is pretty well locked in....

"Na-na-na-na... na-na-na-na... Hey Heyyyyyyy... Booooo Baaaaaaage!"

Lisa - So glad to hear that your dad is doing ok, although I'm sorry to hear that things started out being painful. Seeing someone in pain is the worst! Glad you could get that taken care of! Keeping prayers coming that the lymph nodes are ok! If they're not, though, there is so much that can be done and chemo is much better than the old Dying Young movie these days. Not that I'd wish it on anyone.

Gopherit - So glad the co-worker is doing better. Let's hope he was on teh under side of 4 minutes under water and he will be 100% again. Will ocntinue to pray for him. The back to work co-worker too. That has got to be tough.

As for any encouragement to not take sick days, that just encourages sick people to come to work and spread teh sick ness. Ther emust be som eproductivity dropage there. Then again, our ocmpany encourages us not to be in when we're sick, but my mom's "You'll feel better once you get in teh fresh air" mentality seems to kick in for me anyway.

Soozay, sorry to hear about the lack of studios in October!! No luck even with a wait list?

Did I miss anyone?

DS's appointment yesterday did not go well. He couldn't stay still, couldn't keep his eyes closed...some of it voluntarily, some not. Poor guy was doing the tic thing big time...which he does when stressed/nervous etc. The tech wasn't very nice which didn't help much. She started out nice enough but started getting really grumpy with him when the test wasn't going well. She asked me loudly in front of him "Does he have ADHD or something?? WHY can't he just sit still???" Ummm, let's think about this for a second....got angry and told her not so nicely (mama bear syndrome!) "THAT's why we are HERE!" :burningma (ok, it was 1 of the things the DR is trying to look into) She quietly continued to try and do the EEG but it wasn't going well at all. So at the end she told me and DS that the DR will probably make him come back but he will need a sedative next time before the test. We're both really looking forward to THAT :(

First den meeting tonight for the cub scouts so I have to go get supplies and write up an outline.....hmmm....I always thought DH was the leader!

Laura, does this mean you won't be at POP while I'm at SSR? :( Maybe we will run into one another.

Suzy, with F&W it's really hard to get a studio during Oct. BW and BC are booked around 11 months. Last year we had our choice of WL, SSR, and OKW at 7 months. This time we booked SSR at 11 months. Called at 7 and nothing for studios but plenty of 1 bedrooms. We've wait listed at BW and BC before, but never got them. F&W is really popular. Did you try paying $$$ for another resort? Or do you not want to do that? Book early next year. I'm sure you would love F&W.

Well, one thing I doubt I'll ever have to worry about is "missing" someone when they come through my area. NOBODY ever comes here, LOL, not even our own family! Heck, they can't make it more than an hour down the road without getting ill... and they hadn't even hit the WV turnpike or Scenic Highway yet... West Virginia ain't fer wimps. Yup, we're on the Road to Nowhere, I guess. Only visitors we get are my brother and his clan. WHy? Because they are even further down the Road to Nowhere and they pass right through on their way to "somewhere". :coolcar: We're headed to their house for Turkey Day. My bro and I are after-thanksgiving sale warriors and he lives in a bigger city than we do. We go for the big ticket items (TV, computers, cameras) that the stores put a rock bottom, but usually only have 5 units for a throng of 5000 so you have to get there at 2am, LOL. Last time we went to Circuit City at 3am and stood in the 15 degree loveliness (wind chill made it zero - brrr.) THis year we will probably do Best Buy or something - who knows. I do know we are already hoping to get a flat-panel TV, and probably a new computer ... so there ya have it, count us in! THose sales are great, despite all that nasty "rebate" form crap, but what is infuriating is when you think you are 3rd or 4th in line... and then, right before they hand out the slips and open the doors, people come out of the woodwork to claim the "spots" their family and friends were "holding" for them and suddenly, you are 38th. That bites big time. I say no TVs or camcorders to anyone without at least three frostbitten digits! I told DB next time, we should forget the sale and just set up a business selling hand warmers, hot coffee and donuts and such to the people waiting. I think that would be an awesome wayto raise money for a group or charity. Forget the usual Saturday bake sale - just do pre-dawn after Turkey and after xmas sales. THose people are stuck in line - they have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, bored and cold outta their minds. And you KNOW they have moolah on 'em, LOL!

Well, enough fiendish fund raising plots for me. Better go do some science. BTW - report is good on rafter friend. Finally stable enough to do an xray, and they found out that part of his lung was collapsed, so they got that back to shape and voila, his oxy level jumped up to 98% (perfect!) The vent is still on full tilt though, so plan now is to start to back off from that to see how well he can do the breathing on his own. Then I guess they will consider backing off on the stuff that has him in this med-induced coma to see where things stand. All things in due time, but at least for now, it looks encouraging. :fingerscr

My my we are some busy little beavers/gophers/many other little cute furry creatures lately!

Lisa - I am so glad to hear that you got things taken care of with your father. We will certainly keep him in our thought and prayers and keep hoping for that positive outcome with the nodes! Also, to the best of my knowledge, we are all "trouble pm free" :) but I hear that Viking is sending me a check in the mail. :hahahaha: Hang in there!

Gopherit - We are still great with a 2 bed room (especially queens). The boys are 4 and 6 and weigh about 55 each so not terrible big overall (but Richard is a whopper 4 year old :) ). PJ still crashes in the pack n play at WDW and other places. Universal said they have "cribs" when I asked about a "pack n play" but Disney calls those pack n plays "cribs" as well lol so I am sure that is what we will get. BUT, not having to haul one down from Atlanta will be schweet!!! It takes up a lot of room! Your description of a day at Univ/IoA sounds PERFECT! We are still in need of a nap and Disney transportation makes it difficult for it not to be a several hour break sometimes, so being able to get a lot done in the morning hours with FoTH is going to be heaven! It also means will be get a bunch done on Sunday morning as well before moving over to SSR when it is "nap break" time. The kids will crash in the car, so if our room isn't ready, not really a big deal. BTW - we have always avoided the water rides at WDW. We tend to go when it isn't hot enough and I remember so many summers of walking around in wet clothes at Six Flags (wet shoes are the WORST) so I have decided to wait until they are older and then they can decide for themsevles. I dont want whiney wet ones following me around all day either! I know you and Rozzie both like Portofino and maybe we will hit that one "next time" since I suspect there will be a next time after we experience the FoTH! It also is going to play into when to renew our APs at WDW. Gonna be fun planning for next year - I can already tell! Maybe I shouldn't have bought our annual passes yet. :veryconfu The only deal I saw with conjunction to the Beale outlet was for Florida Resident passholders, but perhaps they will offer something that we can use to renew with in the future :)

Thank you all for the info. We are stoked to be adding another fun place to our vacation list! As for scary, I think we will be fine with Charlie (6) and not Richard which is how it is at WDW as well. Richard loved BTMRR when we finally talked him into it, but passed on all the other things Charlie rode. I think FoTH will ROCK for this as well! I can take Charlie on the things he is tall enough for while they get a snackie or something and it wont take long. :) Gonna be a blast I am sure :)

Stimpy  ggrrrrrr at doctors and tests and all the stress that goes along with it. Maybe something positive will come out of the fact that he couldn't do it this time (thus proving some different issues to the doctor). Dont know - just trying to find a silver lining! I am sure it didn't do either of you any good yesterday!

Ginger - We will be staying at POP in October still! The weekend we are going to Universal will be December 1 and 2nd. Then we are moving to SSR until Dec 8th and finally spending a couple of more nights at Car Beach to catch some of the MOusefest people from other boards. :) I am still hoping we will be able to meet up in October!

Stimpy....next time I think I or one of your other Pirate friends should come along...We'll stick nonbehaving techies in the Nothing Bus and give them some (under) water therapy in our jacuzzi. I'm sorry that she was a beeeachay.

Soozay: if studios are so hard to find, how come I am still holding an oct 1 and Oct 2 ressie for a Boardwalk View studio? I was talked into staying and extra 2 days at teh Pop (free dining) before moving into my lovely boardwalk view...I thought for sure someone would want Oct 1 and 2 but NOOOOOOOO. (Actually a lot of people wanted 1, 2 IF I'd also give them 3..But NOOOOOOO. I want my boardwalk view!!!So....keep checking the rental boards here and on DIS and you might find something! Pixie Dust.

Who can tell me what happens with my points from Oct 1 and 2 when I cancel so close to the ressie date? Within 31 days and a week(right???) I can only use them for ressies 2 months out and must use before my Feb use year RIGHT?
Ok....24 points for sale!

My computer is still acting up...not on AOL at the mo; it seems as if there is a gremlin in there somewhere. If you don't hear from me in a few days...call the Nothing bus!!!!

Roz...hope you have kicked that flu/migraine/pottygod thing. I guess I'm just keeping my little problem til I get back to the World, where it seems to flourish.
Spinach anyone?

lllovell....I'm thinking everyone will love FOTL and all, but that everyone will be happy to return to the Mouse. I love thrill rides and Universal was great fun for the day...but I miss the theming at our Mouse. You're going mid October to the Mouse, right? Is PJ doing the wine or beer tasting?

I'm looking at about 3 inches of snow in my front yard. People, this is SEPTEMBER!
I'm not ready for this...I love my summers . I'd even do fall. But enough of this white stuff in September.

Warning - breastfeeding talk....

We are going for a long weekend mostly for the halloween party in October CB. I am about to give her the official "boot" from nursing except for maybe the evening round, which is really more my issue than hers. :crymeariv She already will skip the first thing in the morning if breakfast is on the horizon but I am just so tired of doing the pumping thing. That child LOVES food. So....we will have to let her take her pick! I am hoping she likes a good beer actually ;) as I am not much of a wine drinker.

and.....nana nana booboo clear!

I am sure that nothing will replace the Mouse in our hearts but as the kids grow older, I am sure the excitement of more "thrill" rides will keep us branching out to Busch Gardens/Universal/IoA/Wet n Wild/Disney Water Parks etc. We already do Sea World from time to time and while I really love it, I would feel strange going to Orlando and not going to WDW! It will always be my first love I am sure. :)

Ya know, really, though..... Universal isn't packed with thrill rides. I mean - they have the Bilge Rat Barges, but Kali has a bigger drop. They have RipSaw Falls - Splash Mtn is better. And other than the final drop - I'd say Dinosaur is MUCH scarier than Jurrasic Park. They do have the 3 upside-down roller coasters, and the Mummy was cool - but Disney has M:S , RnR, Splash, Everest, etc. I think there is plenty at WDW for the moderate thrill seeker. Now - Adrenaline junkies - even they might not get enough out of Universal. We've never been to Busch Gardens.... wonder how that is.....

Soozay, sorry to hear about the lack of studios in October!! No luck even with a wait list?

They had a waitlist....but to get a decent airfare (& flight time), we would have to buy our tickets now....if we didn't get the studio, we'd be SOL.

Ginger~ We could pay for a resort, but we REALLY want to stay at a DVC for our first time "home".

Erin~ This was kinda a last minute thingy, we were just hoping to be able to get something on the fly. Come November, we'll be making our ressie's for our October, 2007 40th bday celebration, so this won't happen again.

We were really trying to go to WDW in 2006, but it looks like all of our trips will be in 07 (nothing wrong with that!). We've got enough other things on our plate right now to keep us busy.

CB~Thanks for the suggestion....I'll keep my eyes peeled on the rental boards for studios for that weekend.

Did you have to bring it in small, unmarked bills too??????? How is it that basically you can be held hostage with no estimate for something so important? That's total B.S. My vet used to give estimates before surgery (I had two dogs who both lived very long and therefore racked up some big bills). I'm tired of the whole medical/insurance profession. Morning everyone!

Mother in law in town so send me a Mojito STAT!!! (it makes me want to do the dance like in that commercial....hey - drinks and exercise...maybe that will be my new exercise plan :P) Things are fine although I TOTALLY stepped in it last night already. There is a new study out that links mothers that smoke while pregnant with ADHD ( a pretty high percentage...so it probably is another one of those weird triggers) and hubby's co-worker and wife are wanting to have child #2 and both have quit smoking cold turkey as of yesterday. The co-worker is griping and moaning about it to Chuck making him nuts and I said for him to tell them about this study and how it is just one more reason that they both should quit. Mother in law sitting right there says, "Yeah. I saw that article and it's my fault" talking about hubby's ADD. I swear I wasn't trying to offend her within 40 minutes of her arriving at my house. (I usually wait for a couple of hours :P) Actually, she loves me and I am sure didn't think I was slamming her and I quickly said so. Just one of those previously mentioned foot in mouth moments!

oooo - I like the look of that VW bus. Lets get some paint, let Nono man the bar and see what damage we can do to the Nothing Bus :) Can you imagine? lol I see some Mickey EArs in its future!

TW1 - hang in there. Glad to hear that wife has some interviews already lined up. Hubby and I tried him not going back to work when he lost his job two years ago (daycare is $335 a week in the summer and silly me thought it would be good for him to stay home and keep the kids- HA!!! didn't exactly work out like planned. Ended up costing me more because budget is not a word that hubby understands apparently!) but he was able to find a job easily when he decided to return to work. I hope Mrs. TW has the same luck :)

Polly I am glad that hubby's surgery went well from what you say! Have you tried bungy cords to keep yourself in that seat while he recovers :) We will figure out a way to take care of you. I would FLIP OUT if I had to pay $5000 in that way. lol @ Disney Visa - you ARE one of us :) Always thinking of ways to finance that next Disney trip!

*sitting down at my desk waiting for class to start* Man, our teacher, AFMom, is so cool. :D

So, I will be tossing some money in the vent jar by Monday I am sure with Mother in Law stories. I will gladly help Carrie cover your vent needs for a while TW1!

Busy weekend. Tomorrow morning is PJ's first birthday party (doing it a couple of weeks early since M-i-L is here) and then the boy's have their school picnic later that afternoon. Not sure what we will do on Sunday, but as nice as the weather is, I hope we can find something to piddle around and do :)

Ginger, so sorry you dealing with a, how does CB say it?, Beaaaaaatch. I think we can take that hippie Nothing bus and drive on up there and knock her around a few times. If you have continued attitude, rat on her to the Doc. Seriously, that really is the only way to deal with doctor office nurse attitude. Usually the office manger has lunch with beaaaatch nurse everyday. Happy to hear that your MIL is recovering well. I've been meaning to ask about her.

Carrie, that is so so sad. I agree with TW1, she is the lucky one to have a friend like you. I know it's hard, but just think positive on your FIL. Cancer affects every single person differently. Hang in there Carrie. Many thoughts and well wishes to your friend. What a horrible nightmare.

Carrie- sorry about your friend. Such a tough thing to know what to say in these type situations.

Polly- I hope your husbands hand heals quickly. I'm curious, just what would your options been if you didn't have $5000 to bring to the table yesterday?????

TW1- I hope that your wife gets a job quickly. Hopefully one that she enjoys more than the last one. Oh and pays a lot more too!!(no harm in wishing for it all right?)

Well we lost another soccer game last night. At least this time it was only 2/0 instead of the 8/2 loss on Tuesday. I did think it was really sweet though, DD's teacher came to her game last night. DD thinks she hung the moon, which is good, since she pretty much hated her teacher last year. Her teacher will be getting married in June. They are going to WDW for their honeymoon. So I'm thinking we might need to purchase them some bride and groom ears on our Jan. trip.

Well, I'm off to have lunch with DH. I think I'm going to try to convince him we need the DDP on our Jan. trip. It just so happens that I have all my numbers handy to show him while we have lunch. We haven't had much time to converse since he got back from Atlanta. 3 days with me trying to ponder the dining plan by myself is just too much.:veryconfu

Hey Erin, did you survive nightmare on BB street? :Paranoid:

Yeah, so far we are doing okay. I just ordered a new window this morning. Of course they don't make our windows anymore so we had to track some down. My Dad sells windows and doors, so he is pretty much taking care of all the ordering stuff. It's only gonna cost $90(yeah $90 I could have spent on something I really wanted) for a new window sash. Of course my Dad wouldn't order it for me until he came out to the house and measured it himself. Apparently, he doesn't trust me with a tape measure!:hahahaha:

Hey Stimpy, I was at lunch and started stewing about your horrible experience at the Dr's. I can't believe how insensitive some people can be. Poor little Sean, this just hasen't been his week has it? First the birthday party, now this. Think I'll just have to sotake a trip up there and have a little one to one with Ms. EEG Tech. :drillserg We really need a smiley of someone really getting roughed up!!

With all these heart wrenching stories, plus my afternoon, think Rozzie is going to stick to the pups. I'll just be superaunt. My afternoon was spent in a department store dressing room bribing a 2 year old to try on 10 pair of jeans. Luckily I had a bag of m&m's in my purse, and he got 1 m&m for each pair of pants. Then I dropped him off when he was in full sugar orbit!! :bluebloun

Oh yeah you gotta love the gifts from my SIL (also childless). My personal favorite was the McDonalds playset with like 163 pieces, and the best part about it was the individual french fries!!!!! I cursed her every time I got one of those stupid things stuck in the vacuum cleaner! Oh and then there's a couple of weeks ago when she was letting her play with dry erase markers during church, no matter that she had on her Easter dress with the white apron with all the smocked flowers that I smocked on it. Oh yeah, dry erase marker does NOT come out. :headbange I still love her, but I remind her that I can't wait for her to have children someday.........

BUSY Day!
First there is 6" or 12" of snow on the ground (depending on the male or female tape measurer) . It's already started to melted but this is NOT my idea of fun.

The phone keeps ringing non-stop for my MIL apt rental, but it seems callers can't figure out that I want 1 person and 1 dog. BUt several callers are interesting single gals who seem like they'd be fun to have around. And my golden is enjoying the 'interviews' of potential doggie playmates.

Bavaria....I love my house all beribboned and wreathed for Xmas. VIctorian houses lend themselves to holiday decorations and Xmas is 'my thing'. I just don't know about letting you travel on XMas Eve though. (Unless you have family waiting on the other end of that trip. ) It would be a fun time to get together with you, and I hope you'll have time to spend in the high country. :santa:

Ohoh...I can see it now. Rozzie jumps outta the Nothing BUs and grabs beahchay lab tech by the troat as the chorus nothingers cheer!
Heeheeheee, hope you have a little fun with those birthday invites, mama bear!

My DD had uncles who enjoyed giving her LOUD toys. There were a few that accidentally broke, tho I can't imagine who would have done that!

Hope everyone has something fun planned for the weekend. :jumpingbe

I told Mom/dizhoni that I am impatient and I would have called the doctors office; he did say 48 hours after all! They are just not worried for now, which is great, I know! Speaking of cool aunts... one year, our whole family elected to meet @ Disney (18 of us in all, ranging from 70 yrs down to age 2!) To conserve our moolah for Disney, we in lieu of larger gifts for each other, we would just draw names and buy gifts accordingly - but nothing big - just a $10 gift for the person you draw, something for them to "open" on xmas day. Well, DH and I drew the names of our two teenaged nephews. So I was lamenting to a coworker what the poop do you get a teenaged boy for 10 to 15 bucks?

Oh-so-sensitive coworker's response:

"Easy! [latex personal protection iykwim] and a six-pack of beer!"

:holymoly: "What?!?!"

"Yup," he says, "why, you could be forever known as "Cool Aunt Cindy" !!!"

Let's face it - 15 bucks is very limiting on the male teenaged front! Some folks suggested a music CD, but I had no clue what these boys listened to, so another person said, "Well, you could get them Wal Mart gift cards - then they could pick out their own CD!"

Okay," I thought, I could do that!"

And then up speaks Mr. Sensitive CoWorker: "Hey, I agree, that's perfect! Wal-Mart sells [latex personal protection iykwim] AND beer! You can STILL be "Cool Aunt Cindy"!!"

Ever since then, whenever I pick out gifts (appropriate gifts, mind you - non-juvie hall sort of gifts!) for other folks' kids, all I can think of is this guy and the words "Cool Aunt Cindy", LOL. :sosad: Irony of it is, he was living in a really big glass house - he has three sons, and now, one is a teenager, and I guess he is a REAL HANDFUL, from what I'm hearing from his buddies and extended family. What comes around, goes around, I guess!

Speaking of SILs giving inapporpriate gifts... I have an SIL notorious for this. IN the past, I blamed it on her own inexperience with kids. Now that she has kids... I am not so sure! In her case, the gifts tend to be things I KNOW she would not appreciate if we gave to her kids. For example - king-sized bags of candy as a birthday gift. I mean, a Costco or Sams's sized bag of Tootsie rolls, or some such thing. She is always harping on her kids about their teeth and cavities and how her kids MUST eat "good food"... then our kids are given junk food in bulk! I don't think she has a very good sense of age-appropriateness, either. SHe has been really "advertising" to us that their oldest boy wants a microscope. I guess she figures we science geeks will know what to buy, LOL. Personally, however - I don't think her son is old enough (just turned 7... but she started this campaign about 2 yrs ago!) I told them to look into one of the ones you hook up to the computer, so they could look together. Too often the optics on those low-end cheapy microscopes don't focus well, and we adults will line it up so it's right for us, then ask Junior to look - Junior looks, doesn't see a dang thing (or at least, not in focus) so Junior thinks, "Man, microscopy is crap" and never touches it again. The external "screen" type systems (whether via computer or some other screen) at least allow you to know what you child "sees" as they see it. I had frankly long since given up buying gifts for their kids, though because they HAVE EVERYTHING. Last year I got them all towels with their names on it - how lame is that? ( Cool AUnt Cindy title down the drain with THAT move, LOL! ) Well, in fairness, I also included small toys for each kid and a gift cert for the adults, but still - they are SO hard to shop for!! A few weeks ago, I actually did buy a microscope for the dn's birthday... but then they didn't come visit us, so no way was I going to ship it, so DH asked what we could send and they said Legos - I said to DH, "Yeah, right.... and I guarantee he will already have it, no matter WHAT we buy!" DH insisten no, they told him what "series' to purchase, we would be fine.... So sure enough, we sent 2 Lego kits in the newest series, and a gift card... and yup, he had them already. :headbange Ugh. THey will probably go get him a microscope between now and xmas - just wait and see.

Hmm... thinking that might have been a vent. Here's a token 5-spot for the jar. Bagel bite pizzas are on the table, grab a few before they're gone, folks....

No big plans here, rainy day soccer games til 3pm, and DH wants to go to the local football game, but I may pass on that one and let him take the kids. I have another lovely church meeting. Funny, ain't it... what was supposed to be a lightened load for me has instead quadrupled with all the meetings, phone calls, people whining, AUGGHH! Two weeks ago I stood before my parish to inform them that I was basically drowning.... they handed me a concrete block and said, "How's that workin' out for ya?":Pokepoke:

You see, I was perfectly happy to be leaving the World on Oct 6...well, as happy as one can be when LEAVING....but then my friend Pam told me about Universal's SCARY Halloween Party. I do love to be scared!!!!

So then I was thinking I could go on the 29th, but Pam is going with her family the next weekend..I think Saturday night for her.
So I forgot about it for this year.

BUT THEN, if I change my ticket from Friday to Saturday departure, JUST ONE MORE NIGHT, I can save a few bucks PLUS I could go to the SCARY party on Friday night!!!!! Congrats TW!

Is there room in teh vent jar for teh cash I'll need to put in?? We'll be buying a lot of chocolate with this one. ;)

So, we dreove 3 hours to go to my nephew's first b-day party. Just a reminder, his mom is the one for whom the world revoloves around.

1. They only live 1.5 hours away, but she asked my MIL if she could have the party there, so the grand parents could come. The grandparents would go 10 hours to see her first born, as the world revolves around her. She just did not want to host ehr son's party.

2. SO I ask my MIL what SIL will be providing for her party. The cake from DQ. My, how generous of her to provide all of that. I made a small comment, not too snyde, and my MIL just said, "That's (SIL1)" Yes, and she's that way, because you made her that way.

3. SHe arrives and takes off with SIL3 to go shopping for well, all but the cake. SO, not only does MIL not have her hellp, but she's down another helper.

4. She arrives about 20 minutes before party is to start. MIL asks her to set teh table and then yells at dh anf FIL for being in her way. Trust me, she had not started. In fact, she never did get beyond helping me put out the table cloth.

5. She did, however, park herself in the middl eof the table we were trying to set to decorate teh carrot cake she had gotten for the 1 YO. (Yes, I believe that's the only small cake she coudl find on short notice) Funny, he did not eat much (any) cake.

6. So, party's over and I'm doing dishes with FIL. What's new? I went to the table to get teh remaining silver and gathered teh plastes, if they had silver on them. SIL1 comments that she's sure that plate there is done. It was, but had not silver, so was not my priority at that point. I mubled that she was welcome to throw it away in that case. WHat the heck?????? Not only is she not lifting a finger for *her* party, but she's directing me???? Oh boy was I ticked. Howver, I'm trying very hard to be good to my MIL, so that small mumble of he being welcome to throw it away was all I did.

I believe she heard me, because the palte was thorwn away without me and she did come in and put one bowl away. FIL told ehr where the tongs in the bowl belonged and she acknowledged that she knew this, but did not do anythign about it.

Now, the baby was not being watched by her or her dh, so it was not htat her hands wer not free. I have never seen her touch a dirty dish, though, so I suspect I never will. I hope she enjoyed her party. I'd like to think seh thanked my MIL, but I never heard it.

Putting $20 in the vent jar. Thanks for letting me rant.

Oh, and Saturday started with a call from my friend that her brother had died Friday night. She did not get a chance to say goodbye, but at least all of his kids made it. :( Thanks for keepign them in your thoughts.

awww Carrie - I am so sorry to hear about your friend's brother. I am sure it is extra hard on her right now not having made it to say goodbye, but I am sure he knew he was loved by her so I hope that she can find a way NOT to beat herself up about that. She has enough on her plate already. :( Poor family. I will keep them in my thoughts.

On the 1st birthday party note, we had PJs this Saturday. My aunt insisted on buying everything at the grocery store - everything. I am not sure I am ok with it, but I know it was out of love and she wants to do extra special things for us and our children knowing Mom would have done special things if she were here still. She also wanted to have it at her house, knowing my M-i-L was there and that I would be extra busy from that. Now, the night before hubby wanted to know why we had to leave by 9:30 if the party didn't start until 11:30. (45 minute drive) I pointed out that it was OUR daughter's birthday and we had to get the cake and trays from the groc and decorate. (He might be related to your SiL Carrie). The party went off well. The older kids got in trouble a few times for wanting to play with the baby's toys and fighting over them, but PJ and Maggie (my 9 month old niece) had a blast. I will post some pictures later today. I :beatinghe my aunt. She was wonderful to do so much for the party and I don't feel like I helped out enough but it wasn't because I was sitting on my butt! It was nice to not actually be hosting the party at my house so I was able to do a bit more paying attention to PJ :) BTW - the icing was a hit, but she wasn't too sure about that cake stuff underneath lol

And you have my in-laws beat LOL Had to spend Saturday with mine and it gave me a headache...I can only imagine how I would be after spending the day with yours! :crackedup I got to listen to MIL complain and tell me how much she prays yet again about BIL's drinking....as she is handing me a Heinkein to bring to him  Put up with said drunken obnoxious BIL, get demeaned by other BIL's GF, who is a mega rich woman, for staying home with my kids. (She's generally very nice but I feel really uncomfortable around her sometimes ...probably more my own insecurities than her actions.) She has a son with Downs, who is a sweetie and I somehow became Aunt Kim too....must have missed something somewhere :headscrat She couldn't find a school she liked for him...so she opened her own school for children, in Manhattan where they live. :jawdroppi The school is going to be featured in NY magazine in a few weeks. After updating us all on that (which is great and I'm happy for her) she asks me what I've been up to lately....ummmm let's see....nothing :worried:

Although now I can tell her I've been doing some cheeky cheeky dance :ROTFL:

awww Carrie - I am so sorry to hear about your friend's brother.

Laura

ETA - haven't heard from Lisa...still hoping for the best!

Cannot wait to see party pics, Laura :goodvibes

Carrie, those kind of sad happenings remind me to feel grateful for my challenges because they are bearable so far... I am so sorry for her...

We have great news about my Dad :clappingh He got an all clear on his pathology report and he is bouncing back from his surgery wonderfully. He is hoping to be in a walking shoe brace soon too as he has been on crutches since foot surgery 4 weeks ago. We are so grateful for the outcome!!

Now, speaking of feet...many of you know that I have had a surgically broken left foot for the past four weeks also. Well, I took a bad fall Friday night and unbeknownst to me until yesterday afternoon, I accidentally broke my right foot. I was in shock yesterday as I truly believed it was only a bad sprain. Since I had a pin in my left foot until yesterday, I am grateful not to have further injured that foot... You should see the huge, ugly leg brace they put me in :yuck: :faint: It is like a huge ten pound velcro cast. I am only going to wear pants (bellbottoms) that fit over it :Paranoid: And I still have the shoe boot on the left foot, boy do I make a fashion statement:hammer:

Phillies dropped an important game last night. Wildcard race all tied up.

Lisa- you poor thing!!!! Maybe TW1 could fire up the bus and transport you around.:coolcar: I'm so happy to hear the report on your Dad. That is great news!

Carrie- I don't even know where to start my list with all the wrongs on your SIL. I did have my oldest DD's 1st birthday at my MIL's and FIL's house, but I did it all. Other than maybe borrow a knife to cut the cake, I brought all the food, made the cake, and cleaned up all the mess. Carrot cake for a child's 1st birthday....:blech: :yuck:

Speaking of MIL's, mine was admitted to the hospital last night for chest pains. She is going to have a stress test this morning. She seemed really upbeat and hopefully it won't end up being a big deal, but please keep her in your prayers. She's only in her early 50's.

Lisa - Ouch!!!:hammer: You're a much stronger person than me! I would have been at the dr in a heartbeat! Glad the other foot is healing well...... no more of that now - ya hear!!!???
So glad your dad is doing well ! What a relief :woohoodan
Oh those lovely relatives....... how does Zazu say it....... can't remember exactly - but I do have at least 3 in my family.
Coffee here, and Corn Pops..... yep - the breakfast of champions once again. Everyone dig in! It is good coffee, though!
We're leaving in 2 minutes to go to speech therapy - but hey - nothing like cutting it close to write a post!
Ok - so - how is it that when I shower - I smell like soap after..... but when my DS8 showers, he comes out smelling like a wet rodent? (No offense, Gopher....) He claims he uses soap and shampoo - I even made him get back in and try again. Is this wet animal smell normal for an 8 yo boy??? Should I just get used to it????:yuck:

Well, it's a dreadful Turesday with very sad news - the co-worker in the rafting accident died last night. He had shown some improvement before the wkend, but a secondary infection set in, a fever soared, they couldn't keep his blood oxy levels up, and one by one, his organs began to shut down. His body simply decided it had been through enough and needed rest. Family wants a private ceremony, and will have a memorial service in about a month. Frankly, I think that's a good plan. Something about death coming young brings people out of the woodwork to funerals, and while that can be felt as a tribute to some, to others who are truly grieving, it might feel like a circus and impersonal. The parents live in Virginia, too, so they will likely have the funeral there, which would make it difficult for many of his friends and co-workers to attend, anyway. The survivors of the incident are, needless to say, very torn up about this turn of events. I can't imagine.

There have been more than a few accounts circulating on the internet about this event, written by rafting leaders that came in behind them, witnessed it all, and helped in the rescue efforts.

 awww Gopherit. I am so sorry - that is terrible news. I had really hoped he had taken a turn for the best late last week. Things like that just aren't supposed to happen.

Lisa - I am very glad to hear that your father got clean nodes!!! I was hoping your foot was just a sprain too. How terrible for you! You need some time to just relax, but I am sure you feel like so much needs to be done around you. Hang in there and come play in the closet :) We will make you feel better! (love and hugs to Dizhoni too! I can only being to imagine how relieved she is right now!)

Erin - keep us informed about your MiL. I hope it was just some strange episode that won't be repeated.

Polly - the cheeky cheeky dance is something they do at the campfires of you ever stay at Hilton Head Island. They do them all year and it is part of the audience participation they encourage. The whole event is tons of fun for everyone. Sing alongs, stories, a little dancing and making s'mores. Just one of the free activities at the Hilton Head Island resort.

Gopher, so sorry, way too tragic for what should have been a fun-filled trip for him and his friends. Those rivers are viscious. I've been on WV's Cheat and Youghiougheny and have seen boaters spill out even when guided by professionals, but never anything like this. Life is too short and too precious isnt it.

TW - I'm sorry about your lost game. I must admit that I've become a fair weather fan of the Tigers this year. It's hard to watch a team lose repeatedly, though. The cool part as we're all just so astounded that we could lose out in teh playoffs and be a little disappointed, but generally just thrilled that we've gotten what we did.

Gopherit - That is just hard to take in. I'm so sorry for teh family and friends of the rafter.

Lisa - I'm so sorry. I've been so wrapped up in my world that I forgot to ask about your foot. I'm grateful that you did not damage what was operated on though. Hooray for your dad!!!!!!!

Erin - WIll definitely add you MIL to my prayers.

Laura - So glad the party went well. My other 2 nephews were not happy that a.) Ty got to stand on teh table adn try out his toys and they were told to get off (they're 4 and 6), b) They did not get to help open Ty's presents like they can for adult b-days, and c) They could take Ty's toys from him. Not sure they're still thrilled with their baby cousin. ;) BTW - There's a big diff btwn your aunt wanting to do everything for you and my SIL telling everyone else what to do. ;)

Thanks for the kinds thoughts and prayers for my friend. I'm sure she'll be ok and is most worried about her SIL, but still.....

Thanks fro the sympathy for my SIL too. She could cause a person to drink.

Did I mention that my BIL (Dad of 2 older nephews, one who coined the phrase "DOn't we deserve us time on vacation?, meaning it's the duty of the rest of the family to take his kids while on vacation) is planning to have a DIsney family reunion when we're down for Marathon? Would it be cruel to pay my nephews teacher to refuse to excuse him frm school? ;) I am glad that my MIL and FIL may go again, but whole family trips do not resemble vacations in any way. :(

Here, here, count me in. How I wish I could enjoy huge family vacations. I hear about them from time to time and they sound like so much fun, but honestly "Family" and "Vacation" are mutually exclusive in my book. The Grand Gatherings look like so much fun, but as soon as DW and I even begin to discuss it we realize how miserable it would be to mix family with our happy place.

Hey some of the internet rats around here may know the name Mike Scopa...

Anyway, he's in a 5K run at WDW which benefits breast cancer research. If you are a fan of Mike's or a fan of well, never mind (but that thought was for you, The Viking), you might be moved to donate. Here's the link:

ditto Ginger. Lots and lots of heart wrenching news on the thread. I can't get over the news of Gopher's coworker. THen Carrie's friend's brother. Though we can celebrate Lisa's GREAT news, so glad to hear the Path Report came back all clear!!

Don't get me started on SIL's or MILs. My brother's wife and I do not speak. MIL, well, won't go there either. Have to say I am getting some butterfly's taking my mom to the World in November. She is just not a Disney fan. I've decided I'm not going to try to win her over, she can either fall in love, or go sit in the room. :fresh:

Erin, keep us updated on your MIL. Hoping that it's just some angina and nothing too serious.

Kimberly, don't let the rich chick get you down. Remember, it's not what we do , it's who we are. ;)

I, too, have spent years doing "breast research".

Haven't found a way to actually make any money at it though, been more of a hobby.... a labor of love, so to speak.

Heartbroken for the families of the lost friend and tragic accident victim.

Glad that Lisa has no more feet to break...girlfriend, ya gotta quick falling (maybe give up some of that :ale: unless you are seated in the newly padded nothing bus! Be careful, young lady!!!!

Daughter just got back from Hawaii where she did all the things mom used to do (well, hopefully not ALL the things). And after working 4 whole days (pharmaciutical rep) she is off to go hiking tomorrow for a long weekend with boyfriend....and she had the nerve to say "Mom are you going back to Disney World AGAIN???????? Chip off the ole block, she...LOL. But we had an hour long phone conversation toinght and caught up on stuff.

Made polichinkas for my BUNKO ladies. Old World (Slavic) dessert that isn't made much in the old world anymore. But YUMMY!!!!!

Almost settled on one lady to move into the MIL house. She has a Benji dog and I just love Benji dogs! She's a chiropractor so maybe that means I can get some massages ...tho I've heard that chiropactric massage kinda hurts.

Actually getting packed, which means that I have now just about UNpacked previous suitcase and washed everything again and put it back. People at the parks will be thinking deja vu. Tomorrow I must find a sewing machine to make the boot covers for my pirate shoes.

And that is that. Oh...I gave my little presentation about the shuttle launch and space station to my friend's first grade class. I love that age of kids, tho I was a wee bit shocked that I didn't get hugs.....I have ALWAYS gotten a fair share of huggin from first graders!

Well, that's the news that fit to print from Colorado. I think I'll try to actually post a few pics from the trip but more from the fall colors here in my neck of the aspens.

CB - COol that you gave that talk! You know, hugs just aren't allowed in the classrooms any more, right? That would be a big nono. I'm sure tehy all wanted to hug you!

Gopherit - How is your co-worker that survived? I cannot imagine what she's going through either. Reading those stories was just awful. How may of us think we can always get help with our cell? How many think about what kind of reception we'll have when in danger? What a horrible eye opener.

ROzzie - Sounds like a plan.
