It is a fast and furious trip for us Ginger. We are driving down Friday morning which will put us at the world about 3. Enough time to check in, unload and make it to the Crystal Palace for dinner before the Halloween Party :)

We don't have any definately plans yet, but I am pretty sure with 4 total young ones (3 of which are 4,5 and 6) we will be at MK on Saturday. Sunday we don't have any plans and will be goofing off outside the parks before returning home later that afternoon. I think Athenna is arriving on Sunday and I was hoping to get to meet her for a moment or two before we leave town.

Let me know your schedule and hopefully our paths will cross. :)

Laura, We arrive on Saturday. Probably no parks that day, dinner at DTD. I can't remember what we have for Sunday, but will look and let you know as we get closer. Since Athenna will be at SSR too, just bring the family and come on over. :)

CB- welcome back!! You were missed. Were you able to see the shuttle launch? I kept thinking of you every time they postponed it.

Hope Carrie and Kristy are enjoying their much deserved vacations.

Lisa- so sorry about the malfunctions for your Dad's surgery. At least the machine should be in tip top shape for the surgery next week.:grouphug: But no forgiveness to anyone on the colon cleanse! That is just too much to go through for nothing.:thumbsway

lllovell- yeah for PJ! I know your a little sad though. Another reminder that your baby is growing up. Lets see those photos.

Life around here just seems to be too busy lately. Soccer is in full swing with practices, and opening day is Sat. Still don't know what the game schedule will be for the season, or what time the game is. Sounds like someone is really on the ball with organization. They were organized enough to hand out the $6 hamburger plate tickets (6 of which we have to eat or sell) for Sat. But can't tell us what time our game is.... okay here's $ for the vent jar.

DD10 broke out with some suspicious looking rashy blister thing this weekend in a few spots on her body. She has eczema so she always has skin issues, but these seemed different. Sure enough took her to the doc yesterday and she says it's staff infection!:scary: I've always been paranoid about her getting staff since she has a lot of broken skin because of the eczema. So a nice fat pharmacy bill even with insurance. So glad BCBS could pitch in that measily $5 on her $60 bottle of bactrim. Add the $30 copay, $20 more dollars for eczema cream, and we had a slightly expensive day yesterday! I didn't even fill the prescription for bactroban that she gave me, because we already had some here at the house. Sorry, I thought I was done venting.

One more thing before I'm off to back to school night, tomorrow is DD7's appointment with the ped. neurologist. I'm going armed with footage of her motor tics so I'll have something to show the doc. I drove to Mobile yesterday and picked her old records from when she was 3 and I took her to a ped. neurologist for the same issues. So I'll have all this to show the new doc. We had a horrible experience the first time with the doc. He was such a jerk. I'm really nervous about how things will go this time. Not sure what they will do to her or what they will say. Frankly, I don't think I'm really prepared to hear any diagnosis (not sure when I will ever be). Please keep me and DD in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow, I would really appreciate it. I'll let you know how it goes.

wow Erin, what a roller coaster! :(

A staph infection huh? Poor thing, and I know it scared you to death. Something to know, hey are running rampant in our area. My mom has/had MRSA ( a bad staph infection) and is on antibotics. It was on the front page of the paper, the outbreak in Baldwin county. Seems the Daphne High School also has a few players with it. I just say this so you won't beat yourself up about it. It's something that is just running like crazy. I know, doesn't make it any less scary. The Bactrim is great for it. I wish my mom could take Bactrim, but she's allergic. :( Also the bactroban her doc gave her gave her a outbreak. So none of that either.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Many warm thoughts and prayers sent with you. Let us know how it went as soon as you can.

Just a quick note from teh burrow. Stayed at work til the midnight hour last night - whew - too much for this aging rodent. Then, made htings worse by staying up to watch TV. I have a terrible time "settling down" after I drive home - took me 2 hours and a bowl of cocoa puffs. DIdn't help that I was watching that St. Jude's Hospital special. THose things always TEAR ME UP. :boohoohoo So then I turned the channel... and watched a 9/11 documentary. Also SAD. :boohoohoo So I had to watch a rerun of Seinfeld just to recover enough to prevent bleary-teary eyes in the morning. Pathetic.

Gotta go make dindin forthe gang - major rain tonight, so no soccer. DH is taking kids to TRUs while I go to a PTA mtg. OH joy. ANother school year in full swing. I think I hate school wrose than the kids. SO many mtgs, committees, homework, ugh. I'm head of Academic Boosters for our school, so I have that mtg tomorrow.

Before I trot off to fulfill my "destiny", LOL - wanted to say congrats to little PJ. Welcome, Laura, to what I alwasy called the "HB Years"... that stands for "Hamster Ball". ONce my kids took their first steps, I always wished I could put them in a giant plastic hamster ball for the next 4 years just to keep them safe! Actually.... thinking about adolesence and teen dating... make that a LOCKABLE hamster ball, and up it to 20 years! ;)
Erin - what is with the ol staph these days. DS kept getting so many boils on his legs I began to worry he was diabetic. Took us a year, I swear, to get it under control. We would get rid of one, just to get another. THat was when he was 10, too. Hope your dd heals fast and completely! And really pray all goes well w/ the neuro.

Welcome back CB - hope it was a great trip and we'll get that report soon... not like I'm one to talk, though, as mine still sits unwritten! Maybe I can get 'er done this wkend. :computerg

CB, welcome back!!! Glad you had better beds at Pop than Rozzie and I did....makes me feel a little better about going back there.

Anybody else go through withdrawals this morning??? I couldn't get MO to load all morning and I thought I would have to check into rehab or something!!:blech:

Well, I can safely say that there will be no add-on in our near future LOL DH and I went for the test/auditions last night. Let's just say that 1 of us did better than the other and it's no fun gloating when the other was really disappointed. 1 of us passed the test, the other didn't. 1 went for an interview with a producer while the other sat moping. And as soon as the producer read the application, saw SAHM (oops...was that a clue?? :hahahaha: ) the interview went down hill. He had absolutely no interest after that. 1 of us was extremely happy we didn't make the show but was really PO'd at the guy for his attitude! Everyone else had people that atleast pretended to be interested in the them! Ah well, we'll have to find another way to finance our gazillion points I dream of!

Dh managed to make himself feel better today by booking DS's birthday party at the go kart place, then going to ToysRUs and buying a $90 AT-AT walker and the new Star Wars lego game for DS's birthday :holymoly:

Tonight, we're heading to The Who concert at Jones Beach if it doesn't get rained out! :bluebloun

Luckily for me, hubby stays out of most money decisions....sadly for me - hubby stays out of most money decisions (which means I have to do all the work, all the planning, all the present buying, etc).

I am sleepy today - I think I am going to go and hide in the closet for a nap! Anyone want to join me?

That stinks Stimpy about the gameshow. Isn't that discrmination? I giggled thinking of Mr. Stimpy sulking so. Oh I haven't been able to get MO either all morning, and now it's crawlling like a turtle.

TW, I don't know why actually. :idontgeti It's kind of hard to explain why I felt that way. The guy was very nice and friendly at first, glanced down at the application and saw occupation and his whole attitude changed. He was like "oh your a stay at home mom" in a really dull bored tone, asked me a few questions in the dull tone and I could tell he wasn't really listening to me anyway. DH told me I should have said we were a Nielsen family...that would have got his attention :hahahaha:

Rozzie.... I hope you are feeling better!!!! Give me almost an illness where I have to stay in bed all day and I can handle it but it's so much worse being tied to the porcellin bus!

Laura, you understand my pain :hahahaha: DH thinks nothing of spending money on himself or the kids. If he wants something, cost is no object. He just goes out and buys it that minute. I want something and forget it :crymeariv And he doesn't understand why I won't give him the Ebay or Paypal password!

Viking...I'm so glad the shoutbox is back :jumpingbe :jumpingbe ;)

Technically - I think that the difference is in feelings. ( ;) if one can be technical about smilies). The one that is red is MAD and banging its head against the brick wall. It is red due to the flush of anger. The yellow little smilie is simply experiencing the more normal, every day brick wall head banging that I find myself doing often when I have to deal with certain people at work on a daily basis and wonder how they even got dressed this morning without assistance. So - the difference is anger vs. resigned continued amazement.

ADD or ADHD, OCD, and a motor tic disorder. I'm not sure that I've had enough time to digest it yet. The biggest decision that DH and I have to make is whether to medicate or not. I'm really torn on the issue. First they are going to do some testing with a neuro psycologist. The first available appointment for the testing is Jan. 29th, so we have awhile to wait and see. The best part of the situation was that I really liked the nurse practitioner and the neurologist. I was so nervous about getting another doc that I could not stand. Anyway, not that I really wanted to hear that something is wrong with my child, but it's been there in my mind for so long that I wasn't surprised by what I heard (am I making any sense???)

Well, I'm going to slip some cash under DD's pillow and go crawl in bed. Needless to say I couldn't sleep last night, and now I can't see straight...... catch up with ya'll tomorrow.

What's the going rate nowadays for a tooth ?

Viking, in our area apparently it's about $50! :jawdroppi One of DS's friend lost a tooth the other night and the Tooth Fairy brought him the new Star Wars Lego II game for gamecube!!! Unbelievable! Ds has yet to loose his first tooth but he'll be in for some big time disappointment when he does :worried:

Erin  I know exactly what you mean....even when you kind of expect the news, it's still so hard to hear! Glad you like the medical team this time and I hope they can help you get to the bottom of your DD's tics. We're still going through the testing now. I really hope it doesn't come down to having to decie about the meds and hope your DD will be helped by behavior modification etc. (Heck, I'm hoping the same things for my DS....the idea's of having to give him meds scares the crap out of me!) Atleast now hopefully your family can get some answers!

Speaking of the wacky weed....concert last night was great! Only one "complaint"...see if you can figure out the problem here: (can't wait to see what Viking, TW and Ndrabble are going to say :ROTFL: )

The Who concert....ROCK concert...LOUD rock concert...outdoors on the water at 9pm on cold night....band that became popular in the 60's....plenty of "dedicated" fans smoking the wacky weed (enough that I was getting an upset stomach....sorry Rozzie, in my case it isn't true :ROTFL: ...and a little lightheaded when we left) and 4 parents with 5 kids...all under the age of about 6, 2 of them toddlers, 1 of them screaming hysterically the whole time! (The other one either fell asleep or passed out from the atmosphere! Or he was just totally mellow after the first 15 minutes of sitting there :ROTFL: )

Hmmm..... besides the fact there is no alcohol mentioned (alcohol free venue :jawdroppi ...explains the massive tailgating that goes on the parking lots before concerts!) these parents decided it was a great idea to take their young children! Not one of them took the screaming baby out until about an hour after The Who came on stage. I was ticked off at the parents and felt so bad for the children! What possible reasonable reason would you do that?? Especially this type of concert?? We go to alot of concerts, some of them we see kids and it's more understandable...Jimmy Buffet for example (although even some of those lyrics can be questionable :ROTFL: ). This was just unbelievable to me. They had to buy tickets for everyone, inc. the toddlers....$90 a piece and made the people around them miserable.

Vent over....depositting my $20....that I could have spent on a moderate in November LOL

I desperately wanted to see the kick off concert here in Philly on Tuesday, but with DW being pink slipped I couldn't spring for the ticket. I heard it was fab. Here's a link to our paper's photo gallery from the show...http://inquirer.philly.com/slideshows/Features/060913DM1WHO13/

Here's the thing I don't get if you bring your kids to everything: What do they have to look forward to???

I remember being young and my parents and their friends going off to Vegas...and looking at the slide shows afterwards...thinking, "Someday!" And it gave me something to yearn to do. I didn't resent my parents for going...in fact, I was probably glad for a few days relief as I was always in trouble!

If kids have "been there and done that" with everything by the time they are 18, I feel badly for them. No joy of discovery, or sheer bliss of anything brand new.

What's the going rate nowadays for a tooth ?

Well at our house it's $5. I guess we are cheapskates compared to Stimpy's friends! Although, she actually lost the tooth 2 days ago. She pulled it about 10 pm, so I told her that it was too late for the tooth fairy that night. Truth be told, I didn't have any cash, and I really didn't want to have to go to the grocery store that night.:shhh: She told another adult friend of mine, that it was too bloody to put it under her pillow, so we had to wait a few days (don't know where she got that one). She has this really adorable tooth fairy pillow, it has the 3 fairies from Sleeping beauty embroidered on it, with a tiny pocket for the tooth. She NEVER wants to use it though! She just wants to put the tooth all by itself under her pillow. UGH!!! The fact that she sleeps in a full size bed that is a loft is not helping my cause. Picture me standing on a chair trying to shove my chubby arms through the rails on the upper bunk bed digging around for a loose tooth under her pillow while she sleeps!:innocent: Last night, I insisted she use the tooth pillow, thank goodness she did. Last time she lost a tooth is took me 30 minutes to find it!

Stimpy- thanks for understanding my jumbled up thoughts! The doc said several things yesterday that I wasn't aware of. He told me that the tics peak from 7-9 years old and then usuallly diminish. So hopefully, they'll start to diminish before 4th grade for her. 4th grade seems to be the magical year for peer pressure and the age when they really start to notice differences among themselves. I guess one of my biggest fears for her, is other kids making fun on her. I don't think any mother handles those thoughts well. The attention problems are somewhat new to me. They didn't really present themselves at school at least until recently. They are nothing new at home. I guess that in my mind I had ruled out ADD or ADHD, but I'm not really sure why. I asked the NP about Tourette's (which I had most closely matched her symptoms) and she said that while she does meet alot of the criteria for tourette's, she isn't that severe. They talked about 2 types of meds for her. One for the tics, and one for the attention problem. DH and I both decided that we may be willing to try one or the other, but not both at the same time. We would probably try to work on the attention isssues first, as the tics don't really have any adverse affects on her social life right now. The doc was really quite amusing. He joked that they treat tons of docs for ADHD, and OCD, so if all else fails she can be a doc when she grows up. His comments were that probably half the docs out there are one or the other! I don't think that he was trying to be cold to us over our concerns, just trying to let us know that she is going to be okay, and we will get through this. He even shared that his own daughter is ADHD, and he has never medicated her. She's in college now. One other thing that he mentioned was that it is rare for motor tics to surface in females. ADHD, OCD, and motor tic disorder are all hereditary. Usually if the mother has OCD, the son will inherit the tic disorder, but usually not the daughter. Not sure if he was implying that I'm probably OCD or not?:crackedup Okay, enough medical mumbo jumbo today. Like I said, I don't think that we will make any decisions until the testing in Jan.

Erin *biggest hug* First of all - I am giggling at the thought of you possibly getting caught by your daughter while digging around for that tooth and what you would have to come up with as a reason :tilt: Glad she used the pillow and I am sure she is thrilled with her $5. Expectations being met are everything in this sort of situation and I am very careful not to set the bar too high at the beginning and set up the "tooth fairy" or other characters to fail.

Nono - I agree completely about not leaving the kids anything to do for themselves. I also think it is unhealthy for children to think that they are SUPPOSED to be allowed to do EVERYTHING that adults can do. Parents need to show children that they aren't ALWAYS just parents. We are mothers/fathers but also so much more that creates a happy healthy person. While we don't do much with the children, there are definately adult only things as well as the occasional wife/hubby time that they understand is for hubby and I - no them! (re-reading that and I am sure I am preaching to the choir on this one...seems like most of my nothinger moms/dads are pretty well balanced :) )

Erin...I am sure what you DON'T need is more unsolicited advice from me! Hubby has pretty severe ADD that wasn't treated as a child and I think you are doing so much for your DD by finding out what is going on. I think you will make the best decisions for her but getting there will be difficult. I have not had to deal with this in my children (yet - hopefully never), but you can bet I am watching the boys soooooo closely because the best thing that can happen if one of them has ADD is early detection. Now, I believe that the right medications in the right doses ALONG WITH behavior modification to be the best course of treatment for hubby but there is a huge stigma that even he as an adult has to deal with from time to time (not to mention that the doctors have said me using a cattle prod for "behavior modification" on hubby probably isn't helping :D  ). Try not to let those stigmas get in the way of your decision. There are many people that still don't believe in ADD especially in adults - new info says children don't outgrow it, they learn to cope. Hang in there and if you ever just need to blow off some steam or concerns, I am always around :)

Btw - lots of newer studies show that a high percentage of ADD patients have OCD as well. It is actually a coping device that helps them - so I think the doctor is right on so many levels :)

Stimpy - girlie...you just keep walking into the Viking's traps lol

Hope all our nothingers are feeling better today :) We need some healthy time!

And, I just bought my son the new Star Wars Lego game... are you telling me if I had knocked a tooth or 2 out, I could've saved $40??

Annnnnnnnnnd... we went to out first Cub Scout pack meeting... nothing like 60 6-7-8 year old boys in one room. THey discussed the camping trip...apparently they don't want any electronics brought. I'm thinking, what a great idea: take 60 hyperactive city boys and plop them in the middle of the woods with no Gameboys or cd players. I can only imagine the fun if it rains...

So, how am I doing... is this all nothingness protocol?

And, Bavaria...are you in for a treat when you go through Moisant; afterall, how many 3rd world airports have you been thru? Good thing is, if you have to get a connecting flight, it only takes like 53 seconds to get from one end of the terminal to the other....

TW, Daltry actually still has an amazing voice...maybe not as great as in his heyday but he can still hit those notes! Neither one of them is...ahem....active on stage as they once were, can't imagine why??? ;) My kids actually know some Who songs...they are being raised on very eclectic music tastes LOL...and both go nuts whenever the "Owl Song" comes on (I bet you can figure out which one that is! :upsidedow )

Erin, love the story about the Tooth Fairy! I can see myself doing that someday....cursing the TF the whole time ;) Where did you get the pillow from? It sounds really cute! We heard alot of the same stuff from DS's DR too! Even the "Alot of DRs are treated for ADD and OCD" Kind of has me wondering if this is some kind of set speech they are given in medical school :hahahaha: If you ever need someone to vent to or a hug from, let me know!!

Ahhhh Pack Night....my monthly curse! (Hmmm atleast it's only 1 night! :ROTFL: ) Our first one is at the end of the month. Always a stress inducing, migraine causing, fiasco. :hammer: Camping in the rain is great for the cubs...it's the parents that have to pay afterwards with the sick kids, muddy equipment and disgusting stinky clothing. I'm sure Kristy will have lots of stories to share about that when se gets back to nothingness! Here's hoping for lots of sunshine ndrabble!

Had to run all over the island today for cub scouts. We were going to have the meetings at our house this year. But last night we found out that 1 of DS's friends, who has severe peanut and cat allergies joined. (since we have 2 cats & DH and DD could live off peanut butter, our house is now out) Sooo I had to go get building permits and find school nights where the school is not already booked for (since most people already booked during the summer). Not really complaining about it, it was just one of those surprise things that come up. The boy is really nice and his family is great so we are glad he joined!

Just a quick shout-out from the hole ,where I am currently buried in work!

Erin, it's good you have a doc you feel comfortable with. ANd also good you are addressing this at your dd's young age. My sister notcied attention probs with my niece for YEARS. Lots of relatives (and docs) all said it was just her dd's personality, or that she simply wasn't going to be the student her sister was, that she simply didn't TRY hard enough, etc. Her dd did a research paper in HS on various types of autism - and it sparked more interest (in my niece as well as her folks). Finally they had her officially tested - lo and behold, pronouncedly ADD. THey had to play a bit with the meds (which they were all extremely reluctant to try in the first place - should have heard all the lectures my mom gave them  ) But what do you know - this barely-gettin-by, "lackadaisical" C student who couldn't organize her thoughts long enough to study - suddenly became a straight-A student. ANd even she herself marveled at how she could now sit down at a table and UNDERSTNAD what she was reading - and not feel the urge for no explainable reason to get up every 5 minutes (as before). It has been remarkable, and the confidence boost it gave her has been the truest blessing of it all. When my brother's son was diagnosed with ADD and Asperger's last fall, even my mom was supportive of finding good medical help and possibly trying med.

That said, I am also in favor of behavior mod and child/family counseling. I have taken 2 kids now to counseling for differnet reasons (ds10 went at age 6-7 for emotional / sibling issues, DS11 went last year in an attempt to help him "lighten up"... on himself, the world, everything. Major first child nearing adolescent angst issues.) I asked the counseling center if they had a 3 for one special, LOL, since our dd is only 6 and I feel certain I will find a new way to "mess up in my communication with her too", LOL. I also muse over the fact that the "behavior mod" was largely done not by my kid but by DH and I (i.e., not necessarily meant to change DS' behavior, moreso the way DH and I responded to that behavior). I told DS' counselor once, "BY having my son come in weekly, then meeting with us monthly, you're treating the wrong person. Why don't you meet with my husband and I every week instead, and just bring our son in monthly? Then maybe HE can tell you, "Yeah, well, I *think* they're getting a little better at it...." " ;) About OCD - I did learn that part of DS11's issues are due to OCD... and in discussing that, it was clear to see where THAT come from. His night restlessness and overactive mind/fearfulness - yup, a chip off the Gopher block right here. Oh well - now that he knows this about me, he knows he can come to me and that I will be able to relate to him. And I now know what to say - and not say. I think before, he thought I was a duck sailing along... at least now he knows how hard I too am paddling under the surface.

Anyway - my fervent wishes and prayers for a positive and speedy resolution for your dd and family! :grouphug:

I guess gophers are TIGHTWADS... going rate here for dental losses is a flat $1.10. Would have been a measly dollar, but the Fairy goofed one night and put in 1 dime too many. Hence, the bar was raised and there was no going back, LOL. I am wholly surprised one of our kids hasn't figured that out and "faked" it, ("ooooh, lookie, guys! The fairy left ME $2.10! WOnder how THAT happened?!? I guess the fairy loves my teeth MORE!" SInce the midnight run of the Fairy is not done under the best of mental alertness, I'm sure DH and I would then erringly think we had smoehow goofed, and in the interest of family peace, raise the bar yet again. SO sshhhhh - don't tell! :shhh: The boys are almost done , but we still have dd6's teeth to deal with!)

My ds10 is very anxious to get his hands on a copy of Lego Star Wars II - I'm taking him out tonight so he can buy it. If he thought losing a tooth would net him a copy without him spending his own $40, he would be on our deck right now with a toaster tied to his bicuspid.... sad but true. :sosad:

Additionally - like Erin's dd - now my DS has to do an animal cell model! Last night he chose all his "stuff" at WalMart. He's doing the Jello thing in a glass pie dish. SOme of the "parts" are edible, but not all. They don't have the whole food stigma thing that you had to deal with, I guess. My favorite was his choice for the vacuole: I watched as he carefully bit into a Peanut M&M and then gingerly lifted out the peanut to create a candy-coated chocolate half-shell with a "void" in the middle. His words: "Well, it's gotta have room for STORAGE, Mom..." Quite amusing. That, and his decision to "cover" the bottom and sides of the pie dish with his brother's green spiky rubber head thingy - now it's like the cell from outer space, LOL. Our school science fair comes up in November - we will have 2 kids entering it this year. Could make for interesting weekends in the burrow, LOL.

I think sometimes that is the most single important thing in your health, knowing and trusting the Doc. I soooooooo agree with the OCD/ADD thing in Docs. I have always heard that, and believe it. I have a touch of OCD, but it's on weird things. Not cleaning, or organizing things. One doc put me on Paxil for it, which I stopped the wrong way, abruptly. Won't do that again!

Anyway, glad to hear you made it through the appt. And the Dr. is right, you are going to get through this, and you will be, and your daughter will be, a stronger person because of it. :grouphug:

My "illness" is much better today. I snagged some Phenergan from my manager at a meeting this morning. Fixin' to take it, and hopefully take a long deep sleep. Gopherit-you crack me up. The mental image of your son with a toaster tied to him!:hahahaha: My kids not only collect from us, they drag their teeth to church with them and collect from all the grandparents, great grandparents, and aunts. We've had teeth that were valued upwards of $25-30. I can't help what the crazy extended family does though. I think all the grandparents like to try to one up each other. Heck, Dh's Mom and Dad will both give to the girls and try to give more than the other one did. It's no wonder where DD gets her "issues" from!:D Speaking of church.... how are things going gopher? I can't keep up! Too many pages for one day, and I've just caught up on the ones from the last 2 weeks. We are a chatty group!

Glad to hear that the diagnosis was something that can be treated, Erin....I will always push behavioral changes over meds...and glad that the doc told you that his d was able to 'cope' without drugs. Yep, I'm anti-druggie and that's what made me get out of clinical psych long ago. And now that I come to think about it...maybe the behavioral conditioning really IS more about how the parent responds. Never actually thought of it that way...but the idea has merit! My kid diagnosed herself, retroactively, as ADHD. Not sure if I'd call it that, but I know that she either learned to cope or the hormones straightened out by high school.
I'll chime in with everyone else, that I 'm glad you are more comfortable with this Doc than the ogre. RE docs: mine was definitely anal, but other than the fact that he had no sense of humor about his anal-ity, it wasn't a problem really. (the lack of sense of humor was however.)

Since we have some leftover Jack Daniels lying around (those bikers from last weekend aren't what they used to be!), if anyone wants a shot and a beer, or two shots, or whatever, just holler!

Well Mr Roz is going to drive me crazy. After moaning and moaning about not being able to go on vacation, he just called and said he is taking vacation in the first week of October. I have 5 days off that week, where do I want to go? Duhhhhhhhhh...... So I called for availabilty, and slim pickens' of course. A 1BR, sure! Studio's I would have to waitlist for sun oct 1 at OKW and SSR. Plus I would have to borrow the points. My 07 account is looking pretty dehydrated. Wonder who is using all my 07 points when it's not even 1/2 way done to my UY? oops, yeah that would be me...

Sadly, I think the sun has set on the trip. My mom may or may not have some health issues coming up, maybe I could book a CRO room, they have 5 day penalty right? That 30 day window is purrty scary, when you don't know for sure what's around the bend. I wonder how hard the CM would laugh into the phone if I called for a AP rate?

Mr Roz wants to go over to the casinos. :blech: Blahhhhhhhh. Just between you and me, I like going over there and eating, but I find no exitement in putting Disney money into a machine that eats it. I did win once, about $1500 on .75 cents, so I figured that is all my luck summed up there. No thanks, I want my Disney! And when Mr Roz started putting up a fight, I gently reminded him it's F&W. He started singing a different tune real fast. :sing:

Just for giggles, think I'll call CRO. Wish me luck! Wonder how Susie lucked out on for a room down there next month too!

In case you couldn't tell, I'm feeling better. Back to my spending points/money ways! :teacher:

guess who snagged a $99 AP rate at POFQ????????

Meeeeeeee! :jumpingbe

edited to add: Going to have to cancel, Mr Rozzie gave me wrong dates, which means only 3 nights, and a 7 hr plus drive is really not worth it to for 3 nights, as we wouldn't be able to leave on Monday till noon'. Then it would mean only 2 full days. And a lot of driving. Blaaaaaaaaaaah! Anybody want this AP Rate? hate for it to go to waste....

Sorry I haven't been around....this must be national CRAAZIES week (and notice that crazy is spelled with 2 A's)....and scary crazies at that....we've had to push the panic button 3 times this week to have the police come upstairs and escort these people away...one of them even fought with the cops (usually, we just have crazy annoying people...but this week was different). So, needless to say, I've been coming home exhausted...not even able to bring myself to go online. ANYWAYS....
Wonder how Susie lucked out on for a room down there next month too!

Funny you just wrote that Robyn....I just got off the phone with GS and the only studio they have available was for the Friday of our long weekend at BWV...otherwise we could get a 1-bedroom without a problem (I don't particularly want to use practically all my points for a long weekend).

What's everyone's take on waitlisting? Is it worth it? We have to get our airfare soon too....is there a deadline that you should know if you get in by?

I am SO glad that tomorrow is Friday!

I have personal experience with ADD also. I have ADD (fully diagnosed) and both of my boys have it :holymoly: DH has a lot of fun in our family; he forgets a lot of stuff himself. I tell him he's caught ADD from us.

I was not dx'd until I was 35 yrs old and I received comments on my report cards regularly for not being quiet in class. I had great difficulty sitting still at mealtime. My grades were pretty decent but I was also scared of my military dad :teacher: I wonder how far I could have gone with meds because I would daydream in class and get distracted by any noise! In fact, my choice of career has everything to do with my ADD. I also have Lupus and so I gave up medication because that med on top of my Lupus meds makes me feel bad physically.

My older son was not as obvious as the younger one. He got dx'd in the 4th grade and he had finally dropped to C's and jumped right up to A's in the fifth. He has excelled academically ever since then and will graduate this year with an advanced diploma. He takes one time release Concerta daily with breakfast.

My younger son was dx'd at 3. I did not use meds, of course, we just coped. He was ADHD. He loved 4K and 5K and did well with no meds in that environment. He started first grade and all was well for about a month and then wham-o, his attention deteriorated massively and the teacher called and said that the ADHD was affecting his ability to progress. He went from D's to A's and in second grade was tapped for the gifted program! He takes a stronger one time daily dose of Concerta each morning.

I wish you tons of luck with the decisions. By the way, younger son had tics and older son has OCD. We have not had to medicate either of those issues and younger DS has a ton of friends and always has, even through his bad tics period. None of his friends ever teased him. He was on Claritin for a time and I swear that made the tics worse. I had our ped change him to Zyrtec and the tics improved considerably!! I hope this info helps; it is just my experience. People with ADD are so fun and creative - my family(Dad, sisters, nieces and nephew) is full of them and I happen to like ADD'ers a lot:loveisint

Rozzie - sorry about your on again off again trip. I would be frustrated too. We do the long drive for 3 days sometimes (we are doing it for the halloween party next month) and it is tiring, but sometimes I just gotta have that break.

Susie - what exactly are you doing for a living now? I didn't realize it would be so stressful :( I hope today is MUCH better!

I would have done it if we could have left late late sunday night, or first thing monday morning. But no, Mr Roz has inventory, so we wouldn't be on the road till after lunch. Wouldn't be getting to Orlando till' 9pm, then tues, wed, leave first thing thursday, drive all day. I soooooooooooo wish Southwest flew out of Pensacola! I so wanted to go, now Mr. Rozzie wants to do nothing on his vacation. Basically sit on his butt and stare out the window. I guess we would save money. That is so not me though!

Rozzie - I SHOULD take some time off and stay at home, not to do nothing, but to clean and work around the house/yard/etc.

However, I always feel like that is such a waste of vacation time! I am a "gogogogogogogo" kinda vacation person. I don't have to move my entire vacation, but I want to go places and see new things. Now - how does that balance with Ms. Cheapie Cheap. Well, I am the queen of point stretching at WDW and the queen of internet bargain hunting for vacation places. Every once in a while, I have to crash and we don't do anything on the weekends, but quite often, we do SOMETHING every weekend as well, even if it is just going to see a $1 movie! Staying home so much since PJ was born is a weird thing for us and we seem to be remedying that by going WAY overboard between now and Christmas. :hammer:

Going to Pigeon Forge this weekend for a car show. Not the most interesting thing to me, but the kids and I will swim and play putt-putt, etc. I am kicking around the idea of hitting Dollywood in my head, but it is sooooo expensive and I have to have hubby with me for Charlie to ride coasters (which would be the main reason to go) and well, that defeats the purpose of going to the car show. So, I will probably save that $200 for some other weekend and find us other things to do.

Anyone been to that area have any suggestions for things to do with 4 and 6 year old boys?

Laura

Rozzie
09-15-2006, 04:58 PM
Ahhhh. Laura, I really do like to save money. Really. It's almost like I enjoy myself more if I know I got deluxe something at bargain price.

I love your Pigeon Forge idea. Is Dollywood really that expensive? I am sure it is, if our local one snake to look at zoo is $25 to get in. Don't people know for just a few more nickels and dimes they can have AK LOL!

You are such a fun mom, with such neat ideas on ways to free time. Can I be your next kid? :whatababy

I'll promise to be quiet at the dinner table and pick up my toys!

lllovell
09-15-2006, 05:09 PM
:) Of course - but no being quiet at dinner! Talk all you want, just use your inside voice :D

It would be $200 just to get in Dollywood. Our hotel is on the "list" on the Dollywood site as having "discount tickets" so we will see. My tipping point for this trip is about $150. They have this after 3 tickets where you get in one day for a few hours and then get in the next day as well which I think would work out great. Hubby can car show with the boys in the morning (PJ and I will go along if depending on where the show is...sometimes they are in grassy fields which don't lend themselves to a stroller and let me tell you - Little Miss PJ weighed 21.5 pounds at the doctor earlier this week. Can't carry her for long periods anymore. OOF!) and then about the time they get tired of carshowing, we can hit Dollywood for a few hours. Leave there, go have dinner and hubby can grab a spot on the strip and watch the cars cruise by while the kids and I watch movies at the hotel and then crash out. Then, get up the next day and hit Dollywood again for a while. There is certainly enough to do there from the look of the website. They even this new technology where you pay $25 and you are guaranteed a seat at any of the shows as long as you arrive 15 minutes before the show. After that, they open them to general admission. Sounds like a great plan if you are going to see the shows (which are supposed to be very good) but I suspect this time we will be mostly doing rides.

So, if the hotel has a "deal" on tickets where it is $150 or so, then we will probably go. $200 would cover a LOT of things the boys would love to do (like Putt putt and arcades) so I just can't justify that much. I promised Charlie I would take him to ride coasters at Six Flags here in Atlanta for working so hard on his reading all summer. Not a bribe, I am just proud how he really gave it a go and wanted to do something fun for him. BUT Six Flags will have their discount tickets available soon for October and the halloween stuff, which is part of where my "limit" comes in for Dollywood.

*gasp gasp* Is anyone still reading because I can tell I have my rambling jones on! lol

Rozzie - you know I am teasing ya about the spending thing! It isn't about money - it is about value :) That I can certainly appreciate!

I child I can toss a few back with! I am liking it, but I think it puts me on the bad mommy list! lol

I hope Carrie is having a GREAT time on her cruise! I saw the Disney Cruise Line travel channel special again last night and MAN do we have to do one of those soon! I know Carrie is on a different cruise, but it made me think of her!

Stimpy - I have a boy scouts question. Trying to sign up for the Cub-O-Ree camp out and it seems that "families" are welcome. I know it says in there that parents are responsible for siblings (ha! I didn't know we wouldn't be responsible for Charlie, the scout, too. Seems like bad wording even though I get the point!). Richard is only 5 and isn't old enough to join, but he can go with dad right? I would go and probably shoud since I am the camping type and hubby isn't, but not taking PJ for sure. Basically, I am asking if YOUNGER siblings are ok with the understanding that Dad is responsible for them. Also, will he feel "left out" often during activities or are they more along the lines of "come on all you crazy little people - lets play" type things? I know this would be specific to your pack (and hubby will certainly ask at the meeting on Tuesday night) but I was curious as to what happens with your group. We are all going to go to the Blue Angel trip coming up (I can go and have lunch with Rozzie and Erin maybe :D:D:D) and I am sure we are welcomed at the airshow and know we are on our own for Sunday, which is fine. This camping thing just has me concerned that Richard might feel more left out than if he didn't go at all. (did ANY of that make sense?)

I dont' think that I'm a cruise kind of a person, but Carrie has put the bug into my head and I am trying to squeeze a 1-2 night repo cruise into my already crazy travel sked.... $200 for a balcony stateroom and about 36 hours of food and great views... hmmm....

$200 for some fantastic food and to see if you would like the cruise experience sounds GREAT to me Bavaria!

I got an email from Carnival recently with a $179 4 day cruise. I figured in 4 days I would eat WAY more than $179 worth of food! However, with our upcoming WDW trip in December, I couldn't justify pulling the children from school for a "cruise test trip" to see if we would like it.

I say go for it, experience it. At worst, you will have found out cheaply that you don't care for it! At most, you are DOOMED ;) to enjoy another great vacation option!

I lovelovelove cruises, but only if they are at least a week long and more like 2or 3 weeks! And I lovelovelove a good bargain....and the longer the cheaper per day cause so few working peeps can spend that much time away. Not sure if you could figure out much on a 2 day cruise, Bavaria....it would be way too rushed methinks to really get a feel for days at sea. Love the idea of a balcony tho....took a hammock and some hardware for hanging it on my last Princess cruise. Got some great R & R photos of that!

Wasn't sure what the Boardwalk Babes phonto was about TW, but I do remember the day that we all looked like that....some decades ago! It was a feel good way to wake up tho and I thank you too!

lllovell- not sure if I am too late for you, but are you by any chance an annual pass holder at Stone Mountain. I know that there AP used to get you a pretty good discount at Dollywood. Not sure if it still exists or not, but I think it used to be on their website. We are planning a trip to the mountains next month, and I have secretly been looking at going to Dollywood. If we don't have any hurricanes blow thru, my girls will get a fall break Oct. 16-17. So we will leave the 13th and head to NC. My inlaws own a house there, so we can stay for free. Its about an hour to hour and half drive over to Pigeon Forge depending on how many RV's you get stuck behind on the blue rigde parkway. But I figure the leaves should be looking really pretty by then. If you do the Dollywood thing let me know what you think. I even considered just doing the waterpark, if it was warm enough. What is this about the Blue Angel trip, when are you coming???

Bavaria- not sure about the type of cruise that you are looking into. But I have to tell you, our 7 day Disney cruise last year was the best vacation we have ever been on. I really wasn't sure I would like cruising for that long either, since I kinda am a commando touring girl. But I will say this. DH and I did a 2 day to no where with Carnival out of Mobile. I loving refer to it as the vacation from HELL!! It was awful. There was absolutely nothing to do on that ship. (HOLIDAY) They should sink that thing in the Gulf, it would make a nice reef!;) So my advice would be to give it a try. But I think that I will be let down with anything else besides Disney. I really do want to give Royal Carribean a try at some point. Maybe when they start cruising out of New Orleans again.

well, just my weekend update, always exciting, right? .....NOT!

Went to the DR yesterday, and he thinks I am having a migraine that is lasting for several days. The vomiting with severe severe headaches gave it away I guess. Funny thing is, the headache would go away when I visited the porclein bus. The headaches I have been getting are weird and the last month they have been almost unbearable, felt like my head was being torn apart with a drill. He does want me to have a CT scan (well I actually almost insisted) to rule out funny business. I guess my being a neuro nurse doesn't help my over thinking things. He also gave me enough dope to open up my own backdoor drug store. I got yo candy if anybody in the closet needs some stuff! LOL, I had to laugh inside at all the Rx's in my hand, thinking what my fellow nothingners would think. I did get them filled, just in case sort of thing. ;)

Oh yeah, viral infection too, might explain why I haven't been able to swallow in 5 days. We both agreed antibotics not the answer to that. Oh yeah, gave me a exuse for work today, he said he wanted rest for 1 more day while I started this new medicine, didn't want me driving on the road 2 hours, might make me drowsy. I took my mom with me to the Dr., and we walked over together (plus she wanted to see where I worked, yep I'm like a little girl sometimes in black shiny mary janes) to the floor where I worked, and it looked they were going probably going to downstaff me today anyway. Since I am PRN making more money, I am first off the list. We usually have 43 patients, and we only had 14. :bugeyed: So no guilt there. Yah, I can't stand guilt.

Something I have done, and someone grab on to Stimpy, she is going to faint. I have given up coffee. Yep, for a while. And alcohol. I have no appetite for the stuff. Since being sick for a week, I have lost my appetite for my 2 happy things. Very weird. Bought a tea pot last night at Target and had tea last night while Mr Roz had beer. Very soothing. Got green tea for in the mornings, and on my 2nd cup now. Very nice.

Well, hope all is well with my friends. Didn't mean to take up so much "me" space.

Mr. Stimpy, just in case....:fresh:

Erin, plan your trip. I have the AHB 3000 (antihurricaneblower) still blowing away in the back yard. I do have to ask, the Mobile cruise that bad? I see some pretty good deals sometimes, and have always wondered about it.

Ugh, Rozzie - I hope that you feel better soon! I had weekly or more often migraines from age 6 to age 14 and randomly since then - as a child I used to sleep on the bathroom floor to be near the porcelain bucket.. not fun! I hope that you get everything sorted out.... and feel better!

(oh, for me at least chocolate is NOT a trigger, it actually helps chase them away)

Erin, I was looking at a Seattle-Seattle cruise on either :viking: (NCL) or Princess or Holland America; sadly the 2006 opportunities are fading fast so that may need to be a 2007 plan.

CB, I'm definitely a go go go person on vacation, so for me even to sit for 2 days may be a challenge! and then again, I may find that I like it, which could be even more dangerous......

I really hope the meds help! Good Luck with the CT scan. Keep us updated!!

I get really bad migraines that put me out of commission for 1-2 days, rarely longer than that. (Plus they don't come as often after having DD, something to do with the change in hormones or something...now I just get stress/tension headaches from her :hammer: ) Excederin Migraine usually works for me after a few doses.

BTW, my DGM used to get migraines too and she used to swear by chocolate (must be a German cure-all, right Bavaria? ;) )and Coca Cola....no other soda would work...just Coke.

bavaria
09-16-2006, 05:09 PM
oh the coke thing is TOTALLY german! I recall a time at school when everyone was ill and our professor was handing out cokes like crazy, the only time they would advocate pop!

My current migraine remedy is some german migraine stuff (I am suspicious of it but it works) plus 2 cups coffee plus 2 strips dark chocolate as soon as I get the start of an aura.

Oh, ahem, BTW inbetween my last two posts I *AHEM* booked a cruise! going to nowhere for my birthday! And it's with :viking: top deck balcony cabin so I'll hopefully be taking lots of photos.... and then I have to RUN from the cruise terminal to catch a flight back to work, but methinks that it will be a good break.

Thanks for the push, Nothingers!

Have fun on your cruise Bavaria! Not sure about those shorties, but on the regular cruises there is so much to do every day, that you can start at 6 am and not stop with 'activities' until midnight. Sort of like commando DisneyWorld! Especially on the new big ships with everything from rock wall climbing to ice skating to salsa lessons to EATING and golf putting contest to trivia to.....well, its all there! Enjoy!

Roz: I 've never had a migrain and sure as heck don't want to start, but starting last summer I was getting dizzy a lot while playing tennis. I passed out once and then spoke with a friend neurosurgeon who told me his dire story of feeling dizzy while skiing and ending up in the hospital for 6 months...aneurism. Another guy gave me the lowdown on what might be causing my dizzy spells and the LEAST scary was coffee.....so I quit for two weeks and sure enough, the dizzys went away. So maybe your body is trying to tell you that your coffee jones is taking a toll. Please take care of you, and feel better soon, ok?

funny you brought that up. My grandmother died from a brain aneurysm in her late 40s. I am gentically "prone" to them, and some of my symptoms kinda hint to that. But then again, they really hint at migraines. If my headaches don't subside I'll have to have a MRA to rule out that dreaded monster.

Great advice about the coffee. Hopefully I can clear up most of the migraines on my own by diet and trying to find the triggers and avoid them. My Doc, tends to think it's stress (he sees me at work, and says I can't hide it from him) and gave me a script for Xanax. I bought some tension relief tea that I hope will help me from using that. But it's like I told him, how do you avoid stress? It's everywhere!

Thanks CB for the good thoughts, lets see how long I can go without coffee! :p

Don't worry Stimpy, your room service is still intact! I'll need tea in the morning!!

Kristy- welcome home! Can't wait to hear more about your trip.

Rozzie- Just saw your DH a few hours ago at the OG. We had lunch there with friends. He looked pretty busy, and I wasn't really sure he would remember me so I didn't go outta my way (or interupt him) to speak. Had a great lunch with great service though! I was going to ask him if you were feeling better before we left, but he had disappeared into the kitchen. Sounds like things aren't too much better. I hope they improve soon. Let us know about the tests.
.... about the Carnival Holiday, I meant what I said about the boat being used as a reef in the gulf. DH and I did a two day cruise back in March of '02 when they were doing the trial cruises. It was freezing cold outside, which didn't help. They don't have heat on the boat, so you can imagine how cold it was inside with the outside temp being in the 30's. They only had sheets and a very thin blanket (like a babies receiving blanket) on the bed. I ended up sleeping in a bath robe with socks on trying to stay warm and not freeze! Asked for extra blankets, got none. The activities on the ship were few and far between. They showed the same stupid movie over and over again on the cabin TV. I think it was Angel Eyes with Jennifer Lopez!:blech: You couldn't even watch local tv channels. Since we were on a cruise to nowhere, we weren't that far out. The only bright spot of the whole thing was the food. DH and I just found ourselves wandering around between meal times. Of course our wanderings were contained to indoor corridors since the pool deck was a frozen sheet of ice. WPMI has been advertising a free cruise giveaway. When they show shots of the cruise ship, they are showing you one of carnivals bigger ships that have a lot more class. It cracks me up every time I see it. I will also say this. My MIL, SIL, and a couple of DH's aunts went last summer, and took my girls. I tried to tell them not to go on the HOLIDAY, but they didn't listen to me. All they could talk about was how they were going to Cozumel, and they got such a great rate. They didn't have too much to say when they got home, other than you get what you pay for. My girls told me that the people in the cabin next door to them were partying in their cabin and yelling and fighting with each other the whole time. They couldn't even sleep. I think the low budget cruise attracts a lot of low budget people. Now, all that said, if they were to bring in a different ship, hopefully they'll be successful bringing in Royal Carribean, or Princess, I would jump on again in a heartbeat. I think that cruises will start to return to New Orleans in Oct.

Bavaria- have a great time on your cruise. I hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Erin---I told Scott you saw him, and he said next time stop him and say hi, he's never to busy for a MO friend! :)

Thanks for the insight on Carnival Mobile cruise. That really does sound like a crap cruise for sure. I am afraid you are right, budget minded things bring in the, well, you know. Should we just describe them as the "Six Flags" crowd? Is that safe, LOL? You know me :snooty: ! note to general audience for those that lurk and don't know me, I am not anywhere snooty as I sound, and I have gone to Six Flags, once, and enjoyed myself actually. Then again, it was my Sr. High grad trip with the park filled of hormone adrenalline crazed teenagers like me, and then we snuck in some....oh wait, nevermind :zipit:

Welcome Home Kristy!! Glad to hear you had a fun trip, and remember we want details on Sea World and all of that. Were there penguins? Were there rollercoasters? Is it doable in a day? Afternoon? All day? I haven't been since I was little. How were the crowds? How was BCV? I guess I am dying for a TR from ya! Glad you are back safe and sound! Did ya' hear Bavaria is coming to the coast? :reporter:

Howdy folks. A somewhat blue gopher checkin' in. :( Brief vent: why is that, just when you think of a way to free yourself of grief and worry, it manages to GROW and become something of MORE grief and worry? Ugh. THought I had a plan for divesting ourselves of the big mess our church has become - somehow endedup even MORE entangled and now have to go to a 7 pm meeting on the matter. Other folks are just doing as they please... that must be nice. Hmpph. Here's my token $10 for the vent jar.... let me know when TW1's bus hits town, I am SO on it.

Meanwhile... went to our HS football game last night. Sat in front of some would-be comedians. If they thought the opposing team was lining up for a pass, they would yell, "PASS!" at full volume (or "RUN" - whatever.) One of them lamented that we had sent too many kids out onto the field, and you could hear him trying to count them. The other guy said, "Heck, Bob - just count the ones on the sidelines - that's easier." (And true - I think we only had about 17 kids in uniform!) Our team (which was solidly losing - we're DEFINITELY in a "growth" year, LOL) had managed to somehow return the football 97 yards for our one lonely TD in the last few minutes of the game, and in doing so, a player from the other team suffered what appeared to a leg cramp, downed around the 35 yardline on the edge of the field. One of the guys muttered, "AH, cmon, you're wrecking our momentum! Just roll him over once!" (As in, move him just enough to get him off the field and then on with the game...)

It was like sitting in front of Stadler and Waldorf, I swear. :sosad:

DH is taking DS10 on a Cub Scout bike ride today - should be a nice day for it. Meanwhile, I'm on duty with dd6 and DS11. If DS11 will get his homework done, perhaps we can make a nice day of it... otherwise.... At the rate he is going, it may be sometime next year. The poor kid is trying to sell stuff for his 6th grade class trip. He is no salesman, that's for sure. I always hated selling stuff as a kid, as did DH, so we can relate, and I detest the way these schools taunt the kids with "look what YOU get if you SELLSELLSELL!" I have been hit up by no less than 10 other people or their kids for similar school sales pitches. It gets ridiculous. I would much rather just give $5 to the cause than pay $10 for a $3 can of peanuts. More of the $$ would go to the organization, at least. But ohhhh.... can't do that , cuz THEN the kid doesn't get his 50 cent "prize" for being a top seller....Using kids for fundraisers... It's just SO wrong on SO many levels! (Ooopps, that sounds like another vent - put another $10 from me in the jar, I'm on a roll, sorry folks.)

So this past week DS11 made his cell model - a thing of glory, glass, and gelatin, LOL. He told me Friday that he got a 94 on it. I thought that was good, but her went on to explain WHY he got 6 pts taken off : Because he did NOT label it as an animal cell. He labeled the PARTS of the cell - but none of his labels said "ANIMAL CELL". Good grief. The assignment never even asked for labels, much less that it needed to SAY it was an animal cell. Just said "Make a model of an animal cell". Or at least, that's they way he wrote it down. The teacher is new, so I guess I'll chalk this up as possibly DS not paying close attention and/or less than complete directions from a teacher still learning her ropes, but one thing is certain, I sure hope he brings home very DESCRIPTIVE, WRITTEN directions for his science fair (and any other projects forthcoming!) BTW - not a vent, just an observation, so no extra moolah from me....

Oh and also BTW, for any other future cell-model-makers - M&Ms and Jello do NOT mix. THe color kept bleeding of the M&M into the gelatin. Pretty gross. Made this icky cloud. So he subbed in some glass beads for the mitochodria. He still wanted peanut M&Ms for his vacuoles, though, which nearly proved to be the death of me - he made the vacuoles by biting the M&M carefullllllly in half, then removing the peanut, to form a "shell" (or empty space) for "cell storage". Well, that technique of M&M evacuation works about 10% of the time, so we had to plow through QUITE a lot of M&Ms to get a handful of vacuoles. Then, we further wasted a bunch of those , because we went through 3 batches of Jello just to learn what we could and could NOT put in there (i.e. most anything water-soluble was a bust. The M&M vacuoles had to be put in at the last second to avoid complete shell melt-down, but not TOO late or you couldn't get it in there at all!) By this time, I had bitten into well over 40 peanut M&Ms, trying to make vaccuoles! DS was much better at it than I was... and in the end, I was one over-tanked, choco-sick gopher that didn't care to see another peanut M&M for a VERY long, long time. (Of course, it probably didn't help I was scarfing down whole ones ALONG with the "halfsies" as I was trying to help him... nor the fact that it was a Sam's Club jumbo sized bag. Not good thinking... or eating.... on my part.) :tsk tsk:

Anyway - better go prod some homework delinquent kids in to motion or our Sunday will slipaway and turn in to a really bad evening! Hope everyone has enjoyed a restful wkend.... Later!

Well whaddya know - just got off the phone with 4 different folks. Apparently there is no bikeride today! They sent it on e-mail - which, since that requires internet hook-up, counts us out because ours is SERIOUSLY suckin' wind. Out of the past 5 days we have tried to use the net - and I am not kidding - we get 5 minutes MAX of continuous net-connection. Then it will go down - sometimes for hours at a time. One night, DH woke up extra early - and then came back to bed and said, "I can't believe it - it shut me out at 5 am!" It is the single-most infuriating piece o' crapola, I kid you not. Poor DH and both DS created a inter-family "just for fun and bragging rights" fantasy football league (now in its 3rd year, LOL.... the competition lives on!), and I thought DS10 was going to lose it yesterday over the 'net because he couldn't get in to fix his line-up for today's games.

So now I'm looking at a basically lazy Sunday - woo hoo! Well, osrt of. Still have to sit down with DS10 and plan a week's worth of menus and take him grocery shopping. Another part of the ol' Cub Scout trail, working on that Webelos rank. If it's not one thing, it's always another, I guess!

Hey cruisin sounds fun... that is one thing we have NOT done and I realllllly wanna try. We keep thinking we'd like to try the 4 or 7 day Disney cruise, but with a fam of 5, it's a logistics thing. We either have to spring for the Cat 4, or drop back to a pair of Cat 8's or so, which might make it a bit trickier. I was checking prices the other day on them, just to see what we would have to pony up. They ain't cheap, that's fo' sure. Those who cruise, tell me - what OTHER expenses should one count on? (Port fees? TIpping? "Extra" costs not accounted for in the cruise fee?) It's funny about the cheap stuff bringing in a certain, well, clientele... there is also the other risk, especially for folks like me with 3 young kids: being on a cruise that's all older folks who perhaps don't WANT to see any kiddos jotting about! My sister once used her DVC pts for some inns up in the New England area. SOme, she said, were wonderful.... and others, she felt like they cringed when they saw her walk in the door, just because she had 2 kids in tow. I know there are some resorts that would look down on us just because of DH's intesne aversion to valet, LOL. Our luggage would probably be a dead give-away, too - Disney tote bags and such. Granted, it's a step above Piggly Wiggly paper sacks ala Jeff Foxworthy, but in the eyes of some of these places, not by very much. :snooty:

Later!

Rozzie- :hahahaha: at the six flags comment. I can honestly say, I have never been to six flags! I always figure that I would just be disappointed, so why bother. Tell Mr. Rozzie I'm sorry for my rudeness! I promise next time I will speak to him.

Gopher- hope the meeting goes well tonight. As far as cruising goes, having a family of 5 isn't the best. We cruised with friends that only had one child and we registered our oldest in their room. She slept with us though. It worked out fine at the time because Addison was still small enough to sleep in the pack in play. So the big girls had the bunk beds and we had the regular bed. We were able to just pay cash to them for registering Briley in their room. We cruised in a Cat.9, so we had the split bath and the porthole. We also cruised during hurricane season, so we saved a good bit doing that. We got really lucky that we made it to all our ports though. If you could go in late August, that would probably not be as bad as the rest of the summer. The port fees are included with your cruise rate. Tipping is not included and added a good chunk to the cost of our cruise. I think we paid out about $500-$600 in tips for week for a family of five. One other thing to consider now is passports. We didn't have to have them, but I think that after Jan. 1 everyone will have to have one. At $95 a piece that adds to the cost of travel, unless you already have one. We can't seem to keep ourselves out of the spa, and that costs a chunck. The only other thing that we paid for on the ship was the fee and a tip at the adult only restaurant Palo. I think it's like a $10 surcharge to eat in there, plus tip. It was worth every penny. We don't drink, so the alcohol charges weren't an issue for us. We didn't spend a ton on excursions in the port(except for the new wedding ring I got in Cozumel!), but we did spend some. In Grand cayman we did a combo tour. Rum cake factory, a photo opp at Hell, a visit to the turtle farm, and swimming with the sting rays. I booked this on our own, and it was only about $40 each. By far our favorite day on the cruise. I can totally see what you are saying about the cat. 4 thing. We may have to consider it if we want to go again. It's hard for me to think about spending that much on a room though, when you know the folks in a cat. 12 get all the same things you do. I think it works out cheaper to do the 2 lower cat rooms, but I'm not sure how I would feel about all of not being in the same room on a ship. Still thinking about trying to get the grandparents to go or my SIL if we decide to go again.

I'm back. We went to the beach for a few days. DH negotiated a "deal" with someone he knows. They have a condo and it wasn't rented, so sitting empty. Had a good time. Got a sun burn. Been slathering aloe. Does sun screen have an expiration? I didn't see one on my bottle, but it is a few years old. Guess I need to throw it out and buy some more.

I'll try to catch up. But forgive me if I overlook someone.

Erin, Where in NC will you be going? I just heard on the news that middle October should be great for looking at the leaves. Something about the weather should make them more colorful than usual.

Rozzie, hope you are feeling better. My favorite green tea is from Japan in Epcot. I stock up every trip. Otherwise for grocery store brands try Twings or Bigelow. I do not like Celestial Seasonings, it always leaves an odd after taste no matter what flavor.

Welcome home Kristy.

We've never done a cruise but have always wanted too. We've heard to many horror stories that we don't know what to pick. I think a Disney cruise would/should be our first choice. We aren't gambling people and DH HATES to wear a tie. He will but I know he wouldn't have a good trip having to dress up every night.

Back to catching up at MO and at work. Have a great day.

I'm so far behind - I don't think I'll ever catch up! I feel so bad!
I keep trying to go back and read, and then I get 8 phone calls about cub scouts and popcorn sales. My first Pack Meeting (as cubmaster) is on Tues and I'm a bit nervous!!
So anyway - I apologize to all of those who I'm not up to date on. How are all the kids? I know there were some dr appts while I was gone - Erin and Stimpy - didn't your kids both go in? Rozzie - whatever was making you ill - I hope you're doing better. I hate any sort of stomach illness - I can take just about anything bu that! I do get migraines - I take Maxalt whenever they come on and that generally gets rid of them. No fun!
Bavaria - you're coming our way? Ok - girls - we really need to get a plan together for me to meet all of you somewhere!
We also have never been on a cruise. I'm dreaming about a Disney cruise - even bought a guidebook - but I just don't see that in the budget for a very long time!!! Maybe after we're done with the house.....
Gopher - sorry about all the crud you're dealing with at your "former" church..... Like you don't have enough going on!!!
Am I missing something? - I haven't seen any posts from Jnrrt..... any one know how she's doing?
OK - I'm going to try to write a short TR today - I'm no good at them though - but I'll do my best!

Gopherit - I am so sorry that you are having continued problems with your church. I understand that it can sometimes be an issue to change churches (I have been told the Chatholic Church is trying to keep people from moving since so many old parishes are dying, etc) but it sure seems like you all have done all that you should and the fact that you were doing SOOOO much for your church has got to be the underlying issue here. I hope your meeting went well. I will be honest, I would NEVER do well in a si
