Nothing exciting today at my house. It rained most of the day. We fixed supper for MIL and FIL. MIL is doing much better and feeling much better. And she's so much nicer than before. Strange, but good. Hope she keeps it up. :)

DH says our 7 year old gas grill is on its last leg and will need to be replaced after this year. Any recommendations on what we should consider as a replacement? Thanks for your thoughts. I know gas grills are not looked at too favorably by some people, but we enjoy them for convenience and quickness.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Just checking in. Have been sick and with sick kids all week, so not here. Yuck.

But, found a dog, really sweet, no owner coming forward, no collar but obviously a pet and trained, etc., posted signs, left found report at animal shelter and humane society. Now, the question is, how long do I have to keep this dog before I give it to a lovely family that wants it? Or do I just give it to the lovely family, and tell them that if I hear from the owners, I'll let them know? My kids are getting attached, and I'm not wanting another doggie (even though she's really really nice) just now.

did you take it to a vet's office to see if it is microchipped?

I'm probably not a good person to ask this question. The fur princess laying beside me is a dog that I was going to help "find a home for" for 2 days. I understand your reservations though, especially with the kids getting attached. It is hard to give her to another family too, with the knowledge that the previous owners might be around the corner. I would keep the dog about a week or 10 days, if it were me. Gives the owner time to put a add in the paper, or call the shelters. If they make no effort to recover their dog, then they must not be distraught to see it go, and they don't need to have the honor of being owned by such a sweet dog..... and then the doggie is all yours....uh I mean, all somebody's! :dog: :beatinghe

sorry don't mean to sound so rough, but ya'll know how I am when it comes to doggies

Best of luck finding a new home for this sweet pup. I am sure there is a loving family that is either looking for her now, or one that is a perfect fit to help you.
<<big hug>> to you, you are such a caring person to take so much time and making sure the pup is okay. :flowerfor

Thank, Rozzie. Yes, I took her over and got her "wanded" at my vets, and there's no chip. I was just thinking that someone must be a mess over this until my aunt pointed out that she's the perfect age for someone to have decided that she's too much trouble, and just let her out. I have to say, that thought just sickens me, so I don't know which is worse - thinking that someone would do that, or thinking that someone's out there breaking their heart over this dog. I know sometimes we take our dog's collar off at night so she won't wake the baby with all her tags, and we have occassionally forgotten to put it on, so I thought, it's possible for the dog to have gotten out without her collar, but it's been three days, and now I'm not so sure.

She's absolutely sweet. I'm thinking maybe 7-8 months, black lab or black lab/golden mix. She totally thinks she lives here, and has been great with the kids. BUT, our dog is old and much smaller, and she basically bugs the heck out of her trying to get her to play, and she's really a bit too big for our house, and I prefer dogs that don't shed both for me and for the baby's allergies (our dog now is a breed that's "dander free" which is lucky since we got the dog way before we got the baby!). So for all these reasons, I'd love all of us not to get too attached.

There's a family at our church who had 2 goldens, and one got out last January and was hit and killed. They were totally devastated, and I asked them yesterday if the owner didn't call, if they'd want her, and they came over to meet her and said definitely. It would be great because we'd still get to visit her (the kids really liked that part) and they're great, really love their animals. And they said that they would absolutely not want to seperate her from her family if they called, but I can tell they're already in love.

So they're coming to get her this afternoon, and I'm a little sad, but I'm happy for the doggie if her other owners didn't care. I'm thinking that can't be looking too hard if they've missed all my signs and haven't checked with the dog shelter or humane society. We're going to watch the papers for a while, but I'm thinking I'll give it a week, and wish her a happy life with my friends.

J---looks like you found the perfect family to take this little one in. What a bonus that you will get to see it grow, and never wonder how it all ended up. And from the sound of your friends, maybe this situation is one of those that is meant to be. :lovestruc If no one has called the paper, pound or humane society, they are not missing it much. Wouldn't a normal concerned owner at least call the pound?

When you said the age and breed of the dog, it all really sealed if for my opinion. Poor pup.

I am so happy that this is coming to a happy end for you. Especially with the babies allergies, I so completly understand the situation you were in.

You have such a good heart J, and are so compassionate to help find this pup a happy home. :)

J, glad you're all feeling better and hope the doggy is able to stay with your friends in their good home! We took in a cat once who was abandoned outside(well my mom has him now LOL) He was declawed and neutered but had Feline HIV....so it was pretty much a given as to why he was abandoned. :worried: He was supposed to only live about 5-6 years and he's now going on 10, living the life of a spoiled brat so he's doing well!

Ginger, glad to hear your MIL is doing better!!!!

Soozay, enjoy AC, hope you win enough for a big add-on!

Been up since 3am with a sick baby. DD woke up screaming in pain and I couldn't calm her down for about 20 minutes. Poor girl! Why do my kids always get sick when DH is working??? I took her to DR this morning. She has fever of 101. Since she was in so much pain, especially when she pees, the Dr decided to get a urine sample. Well, she isn't potty trained yet and he wanted a clean sample (apparently they have a diaper type bag thing but he didn't want to use that) so she had to be catharized. OMG I felt horrible!! SHe was screaming and grabbing me so hard I almost lost it myself and started crying! Thankfully, I have never seen either of my children in that much pain (or worse) before and I hope I never do again. DR said he thinks the area is just irritated and thinks she has a sperate virus on top of that which makes it feel worse. I have to wait until the lab tests come back to fill her prescription tommorrow morning. :worried: She's been sleeping on and off all day and I've been giving her the children's tylenol.

Oh goodness Kimberly. Poor baby. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. That must have been such a horrid experience. That is the main reason I don't do Peds. I can't stand seeing kids crying in pain or sick. I can't imagine being a mother and having to witness it like that. I am so sorry you had to go through that. Keep us posted on how she is doing, K?

Ginger---glad MIL is feeling better. Sometimes people change when they are checked with their mortality. Maybe she is appreciative too of such a good DIL.

J- glad you are better! Hope you find a good home for the doggie before you become too attached. I've been trying to vote too, but no luck!

Stimpy- you just touched on a major gripe of mine. Having 3 girls, I have been through the "oh, she may have a urinary tract infection, we'll have to do a cath!" They have NEVER been successful getting a cath in either one of my children that they have tried. The first time it happened I think one was just a few months old. I bawled like a baby. I'm telling you every time we walked into that office on subsequent visits she would start screaming. It was horrible. I actually quit seeing one female ped at the office because she would want to do the cath. The male ped., never wants to do the cath, he just has the "bag" put on. If I even thought that a UTI was possible I just made the appointment with the male doc. I have even resorted to going by the office and picking up a bag, and dropping off the specimin without making an appointment. I made up my mind a long time ago, after watching them torture 2 of my girls, that unless my kid is laid up in the hospital and drugged, that will NOT put a cath in them again! I hope she gets to feeling better quick! Sorry about the vent! I'll make a deposit to the vent jar.

Ginger- maybe MIL really appreciates life a little more now. Maybe she noticed that you are a whole lot more considerate to her than her own daughter! Whatever the reason, I hope she keeps up her "nice" qualities.

Well- get out the baby book and write down the date... It's official, all three of my girls want to be hairdressers. When Briley was three she cut her bangs off. When Holland was 4 she cut a small chunk (not terribly noticeable because it was on the underside of her hair), and yesterday Addison used her new school scissors to shorten one side of her hair up to her ears!:holymoly: Nothing I can do to fix it. One side of her hair is much thicker than the other. Unfortunately she chose the side that is really thin already. UUgghhh!!! It will probably take 2 years to grow it back out unless her hair finally starts growing at a regular pace.

I was going to ask about voting too. We've got to get J to #1. :)

Kimberly, hope your DD is feeling better. Hugs for you and for her.

J, I can't believe how mean some people are to their animals. I'm glad the dog found you and your found it a good home. Sounds like you have done everything to find the owners. I would at least give it past the weekend or go ahead and give it to the family, as long as they understand that the owner might step forward.

Oh no Erin! I hope your DD's hair grows fast. I've heard of adults taking prenatal vitamins to get their hair to grow, but I would not try that with a child. :)

Stimpy

Ok Nothinger's the site is back up...everyone go vote for J!!!!:bluebloun

Erin, I hope her hair grows back quickly and you can "patch: it up well for now! :goodvibes I kinda laughed alittle b/c I KNOW DD will be doing that herself in a few years! Sorry to hear your girls had to go through the cat! I really hope we never have to go through that again!!!

I always feel terrible for what my children go through, then I start feeling really selfish! I feel horrible b/c I'm such a baby about things when I know that there are many parents and children going through much much worse!

DD is feeling much today. She's like a totally different kid today, back to her old self with a whole day's worth of trouble to make up for LOL

If I'm not making sense today it's probably b/c I've only had about 5 hours sleep the last 2 days. :hammer: I've got that overtired hyper stage going right now. Dh was off last night but he went to a neighbors for his fantasy football draft (which somehow entails drinking lots of beer :headscrat ) which was fine. But DH only had 2 hours sleep since Saturday afternoon (he worked Sat night and OT Sun morning) and if he drinks even 2 beers he snores enough to shake the house! :hammer: I couldn't go downstairs to sleep on the couch b/c I wanted to make sure I heard DD if she woke up (which she did at 3 AM again but went right back)

So which is stronger, espresso or capucchino??? I may have to start drinking coffee today!

Kimberly - Hope dd's better soon! (I would have cried my eyes out. Glad you could be strong. Yes, another reason I am not a parent. Way to soft to be strong for a child.)

j - Glad you found a good family. Grrr.. to the people who don't pay attention to how big a dog will get. We got our Bruno (may he rest in peace) at 10 months. Next time you look in teh paper, check out what percentage of saints are 10 mo when people get rid of them. Yup, just getting to be full size! I hope that's not the case with your temp puppy, but at least he has a good hom ecoming.

Ginger - Isn't it scary when your MIL is overly nice? :p Hope she stays that way and is realizing how good you've been to her.

Laura - Hope you're all a/c'd and doing well!

OK, another busy week ahead. Have a good one everyone!

Awww Erin. So far my sons have stayed away from the hair cutting adventures, but they do occasionally pretent to cut each other's hair with the play scissors, so I bet if they got their hands on some real ones, it would get interesting.

The A/C is on and working GREAT! It was actually work too good on Friday night about 11:30 when hubby got it going because it wouldn't shut off. BBRRRR :brrrrrr: but I would WAY rather be too cold than too hot. We got it fixed Sunday (busy family day on Sat - Aunt's 60th birthday and then to the Braves game that night) and we just would turn off the breaker to give ourselves a break when it got too cold.

I have been voting every day at work and I pull up your page about every other time I sign in. Is there more we can do J? Kudos to you and the pup as well :) Richard has bad allergies and we would have had to get rid of the dog as well and it would have been tough once the kids decided they liked it!

Rozzie - which contract did you take? Are you happier for now at least? Does this mean you can't leave for "X" amount of time if something does come up closer to home???

I am tired tired tired today. I am going to crawl in to the closet and take a nap. PJ has gotten her sleep cycle off some because of staying at Grandpa's last week and she didn't go to bed until midnight last night (getting up at 7:30 this morning will break her of that soon!) and then I have one of those sore throats that HURTS everytime I swallow, so it woke me up a good bit over the weekend. I can't take any over the counter meds for sinus or colds, so I am going heavy on the numbing stuff for now and if it doesn't give up soon, I guess I will go and pay cash at the doctor. Hubby doesn't have insurance right now because of changing jobs and he carries us all. Ah - ins't life fun!

:catchingz night night everyone!

Well, we didn't end up going to the B52's concert afterall....no biggie, I'm not a big fan & we were only going because the tickets were free (friends of ours had 2 extra tickets - the people who were supposed to go originally decided to go again).

Hey....is anyone going to see the Mouse around Columbus Day weekend? We're thinking of going down Columbus Day weekend until Wednesday 10/11. We don't know for sure, but we're having Disney withdrawals and must go! We also have to see if their are any studios available anywhere during that time. (Isn't the F&W Festival & Marathon around that time?) Well, if anyone else is going to be down there while we're down there, we'd love to meet ya! I'll keep ya posted.

Back to the grind....boy this new job is sure putting a damper on my internet social time! :innocent:

Soozay - There's teh Race for the Taste (10K) and Komen Foundation (5K) races that go with F&W. There's also a tri in mid to late Sept. I think that is F&W time. Looking for excuses to go? :D I'm guessing availablitly may be slim, though.

Weird fact: I read the other day that there was no DVC availability teh weekend of Jan 6 & 7 (marathon). That is just amazing! Cash ressies for SSR and OKW were available up to less than 3 weeks out, though.

OMG! Please forgive me. That was way OT info for this thread!!! :hahahaha:

Hi everybody,

Well, I just got a call from the lady who took the dog to tell us that it's going really well. She said that their other dog is a bit jealous, but they think she'll adjust quickly, and they just love her. We've heard nothing, and I'm thinking that we won't.

Erin, I feel your pain. My younger dd FINALLY had lovely hair, it took forever to grow, and we enjoyed it for about a month before she hacked most of it off in her room. She said she wanted to be beautiful. AArrgh. But then, I was able to make it into a sort of layered bob, and was really surprised at how cute it was. And everyone complimented her, which was BAD, because then she thought it had been a great idea after all.

Stimpy, I'm so glad your dd is doing better, and hope you get some sleep!

As for voting, I don't think there's much more to do, but I do appreciate you continuing to vote, or I'll fall instead. Some of the people in front of me will time out pretty soon, so I'll move that way. And if you're on myspace - look me up! You can be normal people in my sea of oddity.

poohspal~those are the races I was thinking of. I'm not a runner (by any means - I'm more of an athletic supporter (so to speak :hahahaha: )). I was just trying to get an idea of how hard it may be to get a room anywhere 2 months out. This will be our 1st trip home! We'd like to try SSR (only because we've never been there and it is our "home" resort), but anything will do at this point. I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions, so please bear with me.

llovell~thanks for the info on the marathon...at least i know when it is so I can plan any January trips accordingly.

I had to laugh about your daughter getting compliments on her hair. DD still basically won't admit that is was wrong to cut her hair. She just keeps saying she wanted her hair to look like her older sisters (who just recently got a short hair cut)! It's going to be a painful growing out process. I think it will take a least a year for it to grow enough to be cut even with the length of it now.

GADS....miss four days of NOTHING and you spend another 4 days trying to read everything! And I did read everything, BUT it was before my coffee and I didn't get home til 2am this morning and I am still a bit groggy!

Roz...I will go check the birthday threads, and I am sure that there is one, BUT never hurts to post a big ole happy birthday right here, right now!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY....a little late, but I was gone traveling.

TW1...you are soon headed my way? Are ya bringing the gang for a visit to my high country?

Some of our best pets were strays that we took in and couldn't find the owners. But sometimes I think it isn't that they aren't trying. When Hannah (my golden) ran off about a year ago...I posted EVERYWHERE within 5 miles, newspaper, radio, talked to EVERYONE...and yet it wasn't til she decided to come back that she was 'found'. Weird, I know....but we've all heard the stories of animals getting in the back of trucks and 'hitching a ride' 50 miles away. One thing that might help is to ask several churches throughout your area to post it in their SUnday bulletins. Tho you are right..if you put an found ad in the local paper, someone should have seen it. I always worry when I travel that my doggie/kitty will go walkabout and I won't hear about it until someone has 'found them' and .....well, you know that drill!!!

OK...went to a fantanstic wedding that was just too incredible! The basilica at Notre Dame is amazing. Won't belabor that we missed the actual wedding and only got there for mass due to myriad screw ups....like the wrong map quest, the wrong directions from the hotel (who was hosting the bridal party, so you'd THINK), no directions from the brides father, and finally: that there are actually parts of Indiana who think they should be on EASTERN time. Yep, we were sitting around in our undies thinking we had over an hour to get ready and then we found out that the wedding was in 15 minutes due to this weird abberation of timezone dyslexia.

I also got to visit with our very own MO matysgramma and her DH who picked me up from the airport and drove me back and were the epitomy of gracious hosts!
Yes, Pam and I were planning on seeing POCII the first night, but we went out to dinner at a japonese teppanyaki place and ran into a couple who were wearing DVC shirts....and hours later of gabbing realized we had missed the show time.
So we just delayed it to Sunday night! And here I must confess: while it is true that I really did HEAR everything the first time through the movie (some people were saying that they couldn't quite hear all the lines and such the first time ), there seemed to be a few scenes that I had missed SEEING the first time. Hmmmmm.....And then I remembered that in celebration of going opening night, I had made a thermos of margaritas for us. So I guess it is really true what they say about alcohol killing brain cells. I liked the movie even more the second time around!

Ok...gonna catch up with stuff and have a second cuppa. And check the birthday threads.....out!

TW1...you are soon headed my way? Are ya bringing the gang for a visit to my high country?

Yup! Fly out Saturday for a wild tour of your great state. Basic plan has us flying into Albuquerque and out of Denver.

First stop is Mesa Verde for a few nights, do some hiking, horseback riding, rafting, see the ruins, etc., drive east through Aspen, last three nights in Boulder with my big sis.

I know, I know, cramming alot into a little time. Sort of the Commando-style WDW trips we usually do.

Anyway, welcome back. Glad your trip went well

AFMom
08-15-2006, 08:21 PM
Oh - I miss Albuquerque - give it a wave for me when you get there. That was one of our favorite home-towns!
Still way too crazy here. It's 2:20 and I'm just getting to eat some lunch.... phone ringing off the hook all day, and big Scouting recruitment night tonight. Kyle still has to get to swim team, and somehow I have to make dinner..... we did get all of our school work done and now the kids are quietly reading..... not very often it's quiet in here!!!!
Ug.
CB - your trip sounds great! The time zone thing can really screw a person up. Here in my little piece of FL we are in Central time. The rest of FL is in Eastern and many times people will get rather confused!

Colorado Belle
08-15-2006, 09:10 PM
But Kristi, I can see the panhandle as moving to central time...geographically it makes sense. But come on..Indiana as EASTERN. Heck, we thought twice about eastern living in western Penna!!!!!! Of course, one would think the wedding people might have mentioned it to us out of staters flying into Chicago. Oh well....I'll get to see the video!!

TW1....how lovely getting to visit Mesa Verde, one of my fav places!!!! And Aspen is where i used to live!.....You'll go over Independence Pass, through Leadville and then come down to Copper Mountain (where I mostly ski) and hit I-70. And 3 exits later (and about 10 miles) you will be right at my exit!!! Dillon-Silverthorne.
And when you get there you MUSTMUSTMUST wave in a westerly direction...cause if you know where to look you could even see my house (at the base of Buffalo Mountain). I'll PM you my cell phone in case you decide to make a lunch stop!

OK.....just talked to caretaker. While I was gone this past weekend, I had an univited visitor IN my house . (Caveat: all matter of wild beasties love my house)
Caretaker said he heard Hannah (my doggie) barking and came up to investigate.
Ran smack on into a hissyfitting raccoon who had pushed out the screen and climbed in the window. Armed only with a tennis racket, my valient caretaker managed to 'run him off' tho we aren't sure if he is still lurking inside somewhere. (I gots me a big house and we had a marmot living under the jacuzzi for several weeks one time.)

CB - The part that's eastern is directly below MI, which is all eastern. Darn confusing, though. WHat's even worse? Sounds like this has changed, but they used to be eastern and not daylight time. So, part of the year they were the same as MI and part they weren't! :hammer:

awwww - sorry you missed your wedding CB. I have called down to the front desk at hotels before to ask the time to make sure we are still in the same timezone and they act like I am nutso. Better safe than sorry!

Ginger - heck - I will toss in a $10 on that one! :) Hope your day gets better!!!

TW1 - glad to see your priorities are straight!!!

Still got the sore throat here, but I was able to sleep more last night so I think it is somewhat better. If I dont have noticable improvement tomorrow, i guess I will be going to the doctor, which is always fun with no insurace (it is like they dont know how to handle me). I am worried about it being strep (which I have never had - but man does this sore throat hurt) and giving that to the kids. I should have known it would be me that would get sick in the 90 day waiting period for new insurance to kick in lol

Survived the Birthday party! No Rain, I did hear some thunder in the distance a few times, but we stayed dry. I'm too tired to post pics, i'll do it in the morning.

CB- Carrie is right. IN doesn't do daylight savings time, so half the year they are central, and half Eastern. TOO screwed up for me. I have 2 aunts that live there. I always have to ask every time I call her "what time is it there?" I hate that you missed the wedding.

mornin'. :coffee1: err....early afternoon....

Laura, how ya' feeling up there? Does your glands feel swollen? Take a penlight or flashlight, how does the back of your throat look? Fever? Gosh I feel so bad for you. I spent 3 years without health insurance when I left school and went "to find myself". ( ) But during that time without health insurance, I stayed sick as a dog. The very hour I had insurance, it's like a bathed in a fountain of health. Strange how life works. I am assuming you still have your tonsils. Are you taking Motrin? You need 800 mg of Motrin before it is a true anti-inflammatory. Do you think there is anyway of just taking a day off and truly sleeping and resting? Sore throats are the worst. 2 of life necessary's. Talking and eating. Some Docs can give you some freebie antibotics too. One doc at work has a Levaquin sales rep trying to whoo him. He is like the Godfather right now. Let us know how you are feeling. Too with nursing, you are burning energy too with that. Plus working. Plus being a mother and a wife. Good grief, I think I need to lay down thinking about all of that. Here are some flowers for you, hope you feel better soon. :flowerfor

LOL Erin about the haircut. Is she booked for tomorrow? :ROTFL: I almost think it is a right of passage for little girls, I know I mohacked myself once.

Kristy, This is your new word for today. Say it with me. "NO". "NO". "NO". Don't let those rats run you around like that. You are so giving with your time, but I get mad to think being taking advantage of your giving spirit. :(

Kimberly, how is dd doing? Feeling better? How are you feeling? Any news from the doc? That countdown is looking better and better. Can ya' believe it? Week from today we will be in full packing mode. :cheerlead

Oh, work! I chose door #2. More hours, more working on holidays, more money. I Know, It about killed me to sign it yesterday, but it's the right decision. More money means I can pay off a few bills, and sock some away for some fun. (read new DVC? LOL) Almost $7 more dollars an hour. And I didn't have to commit for any amount of time. So I could leave tomorrow, and not owe any blood and/or first borns to them.

have a good day everyone! Let's see those Disney smiles!! :magnify:

Congrats! I am glad they did step up and DO appreciate you. Now...let us know if we need to get the Nothin' bus and make a whoop butt stop down your way to take care of anyone for you :) We got your back sista! (hey - doesn't hurt to suck up to someone about to add-on :P )

Today...well - I do think I feel better but my throat is swollen more now (doesn't that seem weird? feel better - worse conditions?). My glands aren't swollen really, but my jaw is aching a little today from the swelling in my throat I believe. I will have to check to see what is going on in there and let you know. I tried to look yesterday, but couldn't get my tongue out of the way and shine the pin light at the same time, etc. I sound so spastic don't I? lol This is why I am a bookkeeper, not in the medical profession. I have NOT had a fever or a rash, but my ears do feel full. Overfull. But not ear ache (which I used to get a lot as a child and I know that feeling). I think my whole head is just full of drainage. The sides of my throat are not as sore now and it is coming from the sinus drainage area, so hopefully things are breaking up and it will be over soon. I feel fine until it is time to swallow (which the human body is conditioned to do like a MILLION times a minute lol). I am drinking as much as I can, eating soft foods (even veggies - gotta keep up my vitamins for PJ and I), taking my vitamins and YES - the Motrin seems to help much better than Tylenol but I am not 100% sure my dose was high enough. I will check that! (and ummmm :scary: someone brought me an unfinished script of augmentin...it is sitting on my desk - staring at me. I dont think I will take it without going to the doctor first {and I fussed at my friend for not FINISHING the script} but maybe then it would only cost me $100 to see a doc and I wouldn't have to pay more to get a script filled! )

Thank you for checking on me Rozzie! You are so sweet! I swear, I wish I could call up those family members of yours and tell them what they are missing by not allowing you to be you! :lovestruc  :flowerfor

Bavaria - I do wonder if Erin's daughter can give your hairstylist at WDW a run for their money :) We would like before and after pics please!

Erin...I smell ADD-ON if this new business works out for your daughter. :jumpingbe

Ginger - hope today is better! A broken printer is no way to start the day, unless it means you can't work :P

Man - I want to go on vacation. If you all could, where would you be right now? Personally, I want quiet time so I would love to be sitting on the beach, beneath the cabana, toes in the sand, Yuengling in hand....a place called St. George Island, FLA. Next week, I will once again be aching for the hustle bustle of WDW and other fun spots - - - when I am 100% :)

Rozzie, a new job. Congrats. :jumpingbe That is very exciting for you.

I haven't been following along lately, have you already resigned your old position or are you gonna quit in the middle of a shift, like your supervisor did?

LOL, Rwe. That supervisor is the laughing stock of the unit right now. Actually I am staying at my job, but "renegotiated" my hours and pay. The good thing is I can quit at anytime. Well with a 2 week notice. Actually I would never do that, I would always work to the end of schedule. We get it 6 weeks at a time. So a 6 week notice? :veryconfu

I still can't get over how she did that in the middle of her shift, my manager. Our new manager is doing great, and have already made some improvements. So I could see me sticking to this at least through the new year or longer. And to be honest, it is nice to feel wanted. I just hate I had to play hard ball. I am so anti-hardball blend into the wordwork type of person.

Anyhoo. That is my official work update. Pass a poptart! :)

lllovell- I wonder if it's just allergies. If you don't have fever, it's probably not strep. They said on the morning news this morning, that this year has been the worst allergy season in a long time and that it will continue to be for about 4 more weeks. I hope whatever it is, that you get over it soon. :grouphug:

Rozzie- Woohoo on the raise!! That at least makes the drive a "little" more worth your while!

All this talk about vacations is making me want to leave town! I was kinda sad that we didn't take any "family" vacations this summer. We did do Bible camp together, but Dad was sleeping with the boys on the opposite side of the camp from us, so that hardly qualifies as "family togetherness". The girls are supposed to get Oct. 16th, and 17th as a fall break from school, IF, and I stress If we don't have any hurricane days this year. DH said that he would agree to a trip to the mountains during that time, if the girls get the time off. I'm trying not to even think about it and get excited, because the thought of not having any hurricane make up days is too much to hope for.

Well here are a couple of pics from the party last night. It was flaming hot outside, and the flies were a major pain in the tail.

Here's Holland with her cake.

and here she is with her favorite gift, a High School Musical t-shirt that my Mother got her.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b168/Princessmom3/IMG_0376.jpg

Last but not least, little one went to preschool today. We have to do the dual pig tails up high to cover the "chop" job on the left side of her hair!:Princess:
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b168/Princessmom3/IMG_0381.jpg

She said that preschool was boring, and that they went on the playground and she "sweated" a lot. She is such a comedian. The other night in the car, she kept calling her sister "stupid". When the other sister reminded her that saying stupid was not nice, she replied that she was "just speaking spanish" Next thing I know she'll be cursing at me in a foreign language!

Thinking that TW promised me he'd get rid of the nasty people when he came to Colorado. Should I post addresses here on the board or just do a PM?????
Let's see, he could get the lawyer and judge in one fell swoop...since they are in bed together. And then the truck thief...well, I think I can handle him. Sweet revenge!

But first I need to unpack groceries that sat while I opened my box from Disney!
Priorities!

Lllovell....I 'm so sorry you are feeling stuffy and sore and swollen and tired! I think you may need 24 hours of sleep without children. Instead of going to a doctor and paying big bucks for probably nothing.....can you just call a local clinic and ask if something similar is going around? For the sore throat: tea and fresh lemon and honey and a shot of whiskey. (My momma's medicine)

Cheer up all...it's closer than you think to that next vacation!

I am feeling much better than I was this morning!!! (and definately better than the last few days). Throat is still raw, but didn't eat much today (just liquids) and maybe that has helped!

I didn't take the Augmentin my friend brought me (I was waiting for you to fuss at me about that Rozzie - taking someone else's meds ) but I guess maybe I am just beyond the worst. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Very red and swollen back there (finally able to see). I didn't see what I would think an infection would look like though, so maybe it was just bad bad allergic reaction to something or just that throat thing that is going around here (thanks for that advice CB - called the boy's doctor and he said Yep - nasty stuff but not strep)

Thank you all for your support and kind words! I will be back to my old annoying self anytime now.

I do think Stimpy is supposed to be going to Chocolateland - I mean how can you go wrong in a town where the street lights look like Hersey kisses? YUMM!!!

oh Laura. You know you'll always be first on my list when I win my millions! :flowerfor That reminds me, I need to start playing the lottery if I am going to win it. I was actually going to fuss about the meds, but decided you might have enough of that in your life. :tsktsk: The biggest risk is actually to your friend, as her infection (whatever kind she has) will possibly come back as a stronger more resistant one. Okay class, get out your pads and pencils: Always always finish your antibotic. The problem with "borrowing" a antibotic, is that it may not be the one you need. Kinda like setting out rat poison to kill the flies sort of thing. But you know I luv ya Laura, :beatinghe , and I never want to come across as a lecturer. So it's feeling better? Hopefully this is something that will work it's way through your system. Any fever and I would do a Dr visit. Just infections can get out hand pretty quick without a antibotic. I think you are really run down, and that makes your body less resistant to all these nasty bugs that surrond us everyday. You NEED REST! If I have to drive up there and watch all the kids, while you sleep, if that's what it takes, I will!! :coolcar:

dumb silly me! I forgot Stimparoo went to chocolate land. OOps. :Pssst:

Bavaria---hope you find your liquids. Bummer totally! Trying to make life not so complicated, and Murphy's Law is right there behind you. I thought about doing a "all natural" trip next week, but the Florida baking sun at 100 degress, I think Stimpy would throw me out of POP. :p

Thank goodness it will pass. 6 more weeks and that stinker is gonna get water in a bottle if she wakes up at night so a few nights of that will break her. Right now, I just want to give her all the goodness I can. (wow - that sounds like a martyr LOL you KNOW I am not that!)

I understand about the person that gave me the meds. I make the kids finish doses of what the doctor gives them even if they feel better in no time! But.....I do like Nurse Rozzie keeping me in line!!! :beatinghe

Yes, I did make it. Thanks for the compliments. My kids always want the same thing every year. Pillsbury funfetti cake mix, with whatever theme the party happens to be. This cake was actually pretty easy. The chocolate shells didn't fair to well in the heat though! Holland is in to all things tropical right now, so the birthday party had to be tropical too.

That is about the only way that I can do her hair that you really can't tell. Of course the side she cut, is the side that is brushing up against her teacher, so you can't see it good in that pic.

Ahhh, traveling in the car with siblings, what a wonderful memory....NOT! I can remember my sis and I fussing nonstop on trips. We had that imaginary line in the back seat. "Don't put your feet on my side!" Even when we moved up in the world to a van, we still argued about who got the back seat! My poor parents. No in car DVD players either, how on earth did we survive?????

Well gotta run and pick up my Mom from the dentist. She's having a root canal today! Fun for her!;)

Soozay - I have done that! Argh! You should get the day off simply for mental reasons lol Carrie is right about President's week. It is "winter break" for most of the school systems here in Georgia and I think Florida too. I don't know if the whole week is bad, but I was there on President's day a couple of years ago and it was, without a doubt, the busiest I have EVER seen MK. (now - temper that with 1. we are at MK on a holiday - dumb dumb dumb...there are better parks to do when you KNOW it is goinna be crowded and 2. It was a beautiful day and all the local kids were out of school too) We have also been during spring break and had a FANTASTIC time and I bet you know enough to do Disney be it slow or busy. Just make sure you go knowing it wont be the typical "dead" winter week.

I am doing better today. Slow and steady progress!

lol @ family vacation memories! We all liked to read so we read a lot in the car. Sadly as I grew older, I got where I couldn't read in the car anymore and still can't. My kids do GREAT in the car because of the electronic age stuff, but that is about the only time they are allowed games or movies is long trips. The trip has to be over 1.5 hours otherwise every time we get in the car, they want to watch a movie or get out their leapsters, etc. We have pretty good trips except that PJ ISN"T old enough to be entertained yet.

awwwwww we missed it!!!! Baby Rash's birthday (lil Master Evan) was on July 27th! Happy belated birthday big guy! I can't believe he is 1 already!!!

PJ has about 6 more weeks as Carrie mentioned. Tis good and bad. I love watching them grow, learn, explore, etc...but I hate them growing up!!! (even if it means no sleep for me!)

Guess I better actually get some work done! lol

TGI almost F!!!

I knew I mentioned possibly going to WDW President's Day week for a reason! Thank you Carrie & my other dear Nothingers for saving me from a HUGE mistake! That is a hazard of being a DINK....not knowing the school schedules or even thinking that if I'm off for the holiday that most schools would be off for the holiday! We would've needed a truck load of Gin & beer to make WDW our magical place during that time of year!

After talking to DH, another option we may try is the week before MLK's birthday (1/7 - 1/12). Has anyone heard anything good/bad/indifferent about that time of year? I'm thinking that it won't be too crowded being that it is after all of the holiday hub-bub and we'd leave before the holiday weekend. BUT, as seen above, I HAVE been wrong before!

That would be awesome! What time is the marathon (approx.)? If we did fly down on the 7th (Sunday), it would be pretty early as to get the most out of the Mouse!

Laura~ That's exactly how we felt! It's low in points, hardly any crowds AND we'll still be able to take advantage of the 3-day weekend at home looking at all of the WDW photos and getting back to reality!

I don't mind some crowds, but I would prefer not to be in a sea of people everywhere I go. That's why we usually try to go in October. I also love going to WDW between Thanksgiving (after the weekend of course) and Christmas....I love seeing all of the decorations and no crowds!

I'm sure I'll be keeping everyone posted! Thanks again for all of your help!

soozaay, I second January - I've been over MLK a few times and it doesn't really get very :crowded: ... plus I love it when it gets cold at WDW - wearing a wool jacket and turtleneck at Epcot!!! :scary:

Good news is that the liquids have been traced, and if you see any trip reports of 'naturally scented' European women at DL this weekend, it's not us! :bouncingg We'll be clean and fresh all weekend, I hope!

Mr Roz (see ticker) 35th bday is on the 14th, or we usually do avoid the holidays. We plan on doing a lot of lazying around, not a commando trip for sure. Good to know the crowds don't get like Presidents Day.

Hey Roz...
I put highlights in a friend's very short hair not so long ago, and it turned out so well that her hairdresser wanted to know who did it and how!!
There is a product that has a sort of two in one...one dye does the body of hair and then immediately after, you can 'brush' on strands of highlight. I've used it on myself and it works great, but I remember that her hair was so short that I was concerned. I think I wrapped some of the strands because we are so dry here, that these products dry up before they can do their work, but her hair looked so pretty and so natural when it was done. (she was going to her son's wedding and after a recent divorce really wanted to look hot.) The 'box' is twice the size of the normal stuff and costs about $18.00...and is a major brand , L'Oreal????

Anyone know how I can get a reverse number (enter a phone number and get a name) for free???? Someone called my DD on her cell which is one number off of mine and left a rude message about my 'dogs' running on their driveway. But I only have one dog and she was sitting beside me all morning...so it weren't her!
Anyway, I have one neighbor who is in full MCL, a lawyer and an all around not nice guy....But I think the number is a Denver cell phone 303-408-2760 if anyone wants to call it and leave a strange message from 'across the country'...be my guest!

I attended a luncheon today where the guest speaker said that we 'attract' positive by thinking positive....and focusing on just what you want to happen. We were instructed to think hard for 68 seconds on something we reallyreallyreally want. After a not so nice phone conversation with assattorney this morning, I knew JUST what to wish for.....badCB! But for 68 seconds I surely focused and I can't wait to set THAT wish in motion!

Off to volunteer (take tickets) at a play!

For real! I've had "boyshort" hair now for, about 6 years, and just love it. The only problem is it loses it's shape if you are late with a cut. And I have never waited 60 days to have it cut, usually always 3 weeks. :hammer: Oh well. I love short hair, will never have long hair again. It takes less than 2 minutes to do in the morning!

So fun that we might get to meet up with you! :woohoodan We will be staying at AKL that night, and I *think* our sunset safari starts around 4pm. Too cool! Lots of us going in Jan., it's a great month. Beginning of Feb is also really nice. I never walked on to Splash the whole trip, no matter what time of day. The wet rides never have a wait. :Pssst:

Thanks for the hints CB, maybe I can swing a trip out there to get my hair done. Gosh I wish I had billions of FF points. That would be a trip! My mom and I are really seriously thinking about starting to do each others hair to save money. Mr Roz did my highlights once, didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would. :blueflowe

Rozzie, if I am singing that song all day, you are in big trouble missie lol Did I tell you all that I got about 12 inches cut off my hair? It is about as long as Erin's hair in her pictures in her siggy - just below my shoulders. Funny thing is that most people haven't noticed except to say that my perm looks very nice. I got the perm over a year ago lol but cutting my hair made it bounce back nicely. I think you were VERY brave Rozzie for even letting Mr. Roz NEAR your hair lol

CB - I try to do the positive focus thing, but I am not sure yours will count as positive lol (for you maybe - but not in the big world of karma! ;) ) I have a quote from Star Wars of all places on my desk....."Remember" Your focus determines your reality." Some days I am focusing on not killing people, so it must be working. :hyper:

Don't let Carrie fool you. her "mousy brown" hair is very pretty :) as all of her is!

awww man you all are making me REALLY want to go to WDW in January. I am still holding out, hoping for a marathon long weekend trip to cheer on the Mouseowners and Tagrel marathon runners! Hubby and I are sitting down this weekend to determine our plans for the next several months. FSU football tickets are in, so we have to sell the games we aren't going to. I promised Charlie a trip to Six Flags to ride coasters for working so dang hard on his reading this summer (his old teacher tutored him and both she and his new teacher are AMAZED at his progress!!! Losing Mom was really hard on him and I think for about a year he didn't learn much as he struggled with losing her. -- - - back on track now it seems though!) Richard has asked to go to the MNSSHP. Of course, PJ's first birthday, major holidays, Chuck's mother coming for a visit next month....you get the picture lol

Feeling better again today, but last night showed me that I am not ready for "real food". It would have been Mom's birthday (56) so we all got together and went to a really nice restaurant (you know - so we could terrorize people with our children in a high class joint :fresh: kidding...they were GREAT!!! but we did get the "oh great" looks walking in). I really loved my tomato bisque, but it burned due to acid I am sure. The chicken was tender and if I chewed it a lot it was ok, but the other veggies seemed to "stick" to my tender spots in my throat.....so I drank a TON of water after each bite. The creme bruole was fantastic though!!! :hyper: I was glad we went though for the company. We all miss her so badly :( Maybe by the weekend I will be eating normal again!

Anyone have big plans for the weekend? I have a baby shower to attend and Elise (my niece) is coming over to spend the night so I think we are going to head to the zoo. Dad and his wife are coming over on Sunday evening to celebrate my birthday. So....just enough to stay busy, but not a crazy weekend.

Just a last minute trip to Belleplain State Park. We got a new travel trailer a few months back and have only used it twice so far. I don't like summer heat but our forcast has the evenings dropping into the 60's which is perfect for sitting around a fire with a few bottles of wine.

We've tented for 25 years. My back just can't take it any more. Plus, loading up all the stuff made a last minute trip more of a chore than pleasure.

We keep the camper stocked with clothes, toiletries, towels, plates, pots, pans, dry & canned goods, spices, etc. When I leave work I'll stop at ACME, grab a couple thick cut porterhouses & 3 lbs of bacon, get home, throw stuff in the fridge, hook up and drive out. Quick and easy.

We bought a tent a couple yrs ago that is way easy to put up and you can stand up in it. An air mattress on a stand make like eaier, too. I'd stillprefer a camper, but we do ont camp enough for that to be worth it.

It's also nice to camp next to a 5th wheel with everythign like my parents and ILs have! ;) (My parents don't camp, they travel in their travel trailer)

I am having DIsney-lioving friends over to scrap book tonight!

Dh is taking me to dinner and a movie tonight, but I don't see anyu movies out that both of us will like. I'd like the Devil wears Prada and he's like talladaga nights, but not really vice versa. BArnyard seems like too many animal cartoons lately and I have no desitre. If anyone feels otherwise, please let em know.

We do have to pick pout new paint tonight, as we had a color and it looks nlike a nice soft peachy coral in teh light. Any wher that htere's a shdow, though, it's tangerine! :O I was told last night that teh "glow on the curtains makes it look like a red light district." :O However, where it glows into the pink living room, it looks like a very nice sunset. You need sunglasses to go up the stairs, though. Ugh! I hate picking out paint!

I wanna go camping!
We started camping when our first DS1 was only 4 months old. Well - we camped before that, too - but with kids, I mean. The big challenge there was that he was on formula - so we'd have the bottles filled with dry powder next to our air mattress (which was next to his porta-crib) and then when he woke up we would just pour room temp water in and shake! Worked great - luckily he didn't care that it wasn't warm.
Our craziest trip was when DS1 was 18 months old and DS2 was 4 months old..... 2 porta cribs in the tent, bottles, 2 sets of diapers! And we had a HUGE rainstorm - the bottom of the tent ended up flooded with a river running underneath us. The kids stayed dry because the cribs kept them off the ground. It was nuts!
We're still debating the camper thing. I'd love the quick trips that way - but Cub Scouts is tent only anyway, and most of our trips are for 4 or more days, so it isn't as hard to justify the packing time. What I really want is the A/C - so that we can camp down here in FL in the summer.

To help start everyone's weekend off right, I wanted to share this quote by Cliff Clavin, of Cheers.

One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the Buffalo Theory to his buddy Norm. Here's how it went:

"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers." :ale:

THis morning I rec'd an email from jiggerj saying that she couldn't believe an old thread of mine on the Disboard had been resurrected. I couldn't find it so she sent me a link. Folks, this was a 25 page thread about guaranteeing smoking/noon and handicapped/non rooms which had one particular poster...an angry unbalanced posted (IMHO) attacking everyone and everything. What it boiled down to was, if you requested a non HA room THEN you were idiotic, an imbecile, insensitive, rude, belittling, meanspirited BECAUSE he had a handicapped child who he thought got upset when someone bemoaned getting an HA room within the child's hearing. SIGH. I asked several times for this thread to be closed and no mod ever came and closed it. Well, someone ressurected the post to try to get things going again...and by that I don't mean honest discussion but more name calling. Thank God it was finally closed BUT it sucked me in again and I just read the whole damn thing. Shan, Tim, lllovell, deep thots all posted on the thread BUT please do not any of you get sucked in again like I did!!!!! Let us hope it will soon die once again . I still think this guy, TCPluto was/is looney toons however... a sicko of the worst kind. I can't believe I wasted so much energy trying to reach him....I can only laugh now at my gullibility. So again, WARNING!...do not go there. Trust me on this! Now back to your regularly scheduled weekend fun.

oooh. CB, I remember that thread. And the poster. I sum it up to there are some really really angry miserable people in the world. No matter what, they are unhappy. I can't imagine how people have meltdowns of anger at the happiest place on earth. I mean, if you can have it there, can you imagine their homelife? Sorry, don't mean to Dr. Phil. Just a crappy day at work, that's all. Makes me think I'll put another log on the new job search fire.

Is there a way to be a nurse, and not be around Dr.'s? :scratchch

Question. I don't mean to sound old-fashioned, or sexist, or anything like that. But I have the hardest time working for moody women. (Yes good thing THE Viking is camping this weekend) I can't stand it really. Moodiness. I really miss my old manager. The new one is great and making a lot of changes, but when she gets in a mood, look out. Granted I am not saying I don't like working for women, just moody women. :headbrick

okay, there's $10 for the vent jar, and nono, grab an extra $10 for you out of the jar. The cold beer is great this morning!

Thanks Erin. The thing I read made it sound like there was one on every street corner in AL. :) Have you had white bbq? Is it good?

Boy, am I in trouble when I go away for a full week! I leave for 4 days and can't believe how much I missed here in the Nothing thread. Hope to get caught up soon!!! I hope everyone is doing well :goodvibes

Got some new supplies for the closet....what's it going to be? I got some Hershey Kisses, chocolate bars (the ones DH and the kids didn't find yet LOL), some Milk Duds (but better hurry those are my faves!), Twizzlers...... I realize they aren't as good as the German Chocolates Bavaria bought back but they are atleast some of the best American Chocolates!!! :dancingba

Our trip went well for the most part. We did get stuck in major traffic jams coming home yesterday. The 4 hour trip going to PA turned into 7 coming home :headbrick

Ok, I'm off to try and catch up around here! If anyone has a quick recap available, let me know! :hahahaha:

Hi all....
Just wanted to let you know in case you don't see me around much in the coming days... We got a call from a very dear friend early this morning that her father had passed away from complications of cancer (pancreatic - sp?) this morning. He was diagnosed with cancer back in December; he seemed to being doing ok and then at his last dr. visit a week ago Friday, the doctor said that he had 2 months to live (and that was generous). He was 58. Cancer is such an awful disease. :tearsaref Anyway, I'm heading out in a little bit to go help my GF & her Mom with anything they need and don't know if I'll be around a computer anytime soon.

Take care all.

Oooh ooh ooooh!
I've got DARK chocolate Raisinettes!!!! They are sooooooooooooooo good.:yummy:
Moody women (here's my $20) My neighbor takes the cake. In fact - even though DH and I still get along with the dad and the 2 kids - I haven't actually spoken to the wife in about a month. I won't get into the story of it all - but she's an odd duck. I can't imagine having to WORK with her!:faint:
Oh - CB - those threads are horrid over there. I got sucked into one about renting once. Really have to wonder if they are just trying to cause conflict for the fun of it or if they are really that unbalanced.

At least I have some fresh Hershey's chocolates to keep me company! Thanks Stimpy!!! :lovestruc

Soozay- So sorry for your you and your friend. So nice of you to be there for her.

Stimpy- Glad your back. No chocolate for me please, I'm starting back on weight watchers on Monday. I need to get as far away from chocolate as I can get!!:fingerscr

Rozzie- Add me to the sexist category! I don't want to work for a woman ever again. My first teaching job was a woman principal, and I couldn't stand her! My Mom says the same thing. I'll even take it a step further, I'll probably never vote for a woman president! They might have some hormonal rampage and nuke the world! DH has interviewed women for estimator positions at the shop. I always tell him that as a woman, if I come in a body shop for an estimate, I don't want a woman telling me what is wrong with my car. To me, it's a mans job!;) You won't get any flack from me with your comments. As conservative as I am, I probably should have been born 100 years ago.

CB- I only wander to the "other" board occasionally, and every time I do, I read stuff that amazes me. People are soooo rude over there. Don't let it get under your skin.

Ginger- the only place that I have had white BBQ sauce is a place called Wings. It is owned by Bob Baumhower. He played for Alabama, and then for the Miami Dolphins (I think). He has several Wings restaurants in Alabama. His white BBQ sauce is usually eaten with chicken wings or as a dipping sauce for chicken breast. It is not really a typical "BBQ" place. I had never heard of the BBQ place that you mentioned. Let us know how it is when you try it out!

Spent a fun day at the pool and the beach with the kids. I'm about to go to sleep at the keyboard I'm so tired. Catch up with you all tomorrow.

Oh Soosay...cancer is awful. I'm sorry for your loss. A friend of mine has lost almost all of her intestines, and tho they didn't find cancer...she doesn't have enough intestine left to be able to eat. She's not yet 50. It's good of you to be a good friend!

Nono:nononononononoonononono, do not go looking for that thread. It will suck out your brains!

Roz, Stimpy: It is really sad that there are some women who, when they get into a power position, seem to use that power against other women. I saw it lots in the medical profession with women docs. I KNOW that these women had a really hard time (back years ago, not so much now) in medical school. But it seemed that once they finally became docs that they were the meanest be-ahches to the nurses, who were mostly female (back then). I love meeting interesting, intelligent and powerful women who are also gracious and kind. It is those women we need to support. (I used to joke with my X that med school's used to put women through such hell week that they assimilated a 'male' gene to survive and that's what made those Dr.beahches so mean! I guess some of them got the attitude that they worked so hard to get where they were, that they were going to dis other women who hadn't gone through the same crapola. Hmmm.

Erin, thanks for your support. I didn't get emotionally wrapped up in that old thread THIS time...I was mostly fascinated by how angry people can manipulate...sort of like reading motions from X's attorney. Hey! Maybe they are one and the same ! LOL

What about being a home health nurse?

Thought about that. I am so anti 8 hr shifts though. As much as I gripe about the long hours, I don't think I could ever go back to 8 hr shifts. I know, I sure do gripe, but then don't like changes. :innocent: LOL, I guess there is no perfect job out there.

Kimberly, thanks for the chocolate. :) Glad you had a good trip.

Suzie, hugs and prayers for your friend and for you. I know she will be glad that you are there for her during this time.

Erin, I must be old fashioned too. I agree with what you wrote. I'll let you know if we go eat at that bbq place. It's about 45 min-1 hour from my house, so it might not be any time soon.

Today is MIL's birthday. We are cooking supper for her. If anyone wants a good and easy cake recipe, I'll be glad to share my great aunt's Dreamcicle cake recipe. Yum!

CB, I think you meant Erin, not me. Although I do agree, I've had some pretty moody female bosses before too :innocent:

It must be vacation time again! 4 days before I'm going to meet Rozzie in the Happy Place, my grandmother is sent to the hospital with pneunoma (SP???), the washer breaks and general mayhem is running amok in our house. Never fails!

Stimpy, you're right..I do and I did! Sorry, babe!:hahahaha: I swear I cannot keep anything straight in my brain anymore. I am trying to learn the words to the Pirate Song...I wish they would change it to use words beginning with the same letter in each stanza. Gosh Stimparoo, hope things get a little more calm up there. Your poor grandmother too. Hope she is feeling better soon. How old is she?

Does your washer being broke mean Mr. Stimpy has to hand wash all the clothes while you are away? :scratchch

I agree with you Erin and CB. I like to think of myself has a modern liberal thinker, but there is this old fashioned part of me that stays true. LOL Erin, your probably right, a woman president would nuke somebody---- maybe just to get her point across! I myself could never deal with that kind of power. I know for a fact it would go to my head. I would spend my whole political life getting even with particular people, oh and CB's ex too, he would not be immune. I would have National Greyhound Day. Close WDW for private fundraiser events.....MMnnnn....:beaniepro

Holy crap -- all women are incompetent with power? Cut me a break! What's next? It's a slippery slope people.

Just because certain women can't handle certain jobs, doesn't mean no woman can. Every day, there's men doing crappy work at any of the jobs that were said a woman can't handle. We don't rip them all out of the running because some of them can't handle it, do we?????? :headscrat

I would definitely vote for a woman president! I have worked with two women managers over the past 9 years and while I butted heads with both of them at times, I had a lot of respect for them too!

Good point nono. Don't forget, you still have my support when you run for President!

I've just never had the experience of working for a woman that, well, impressed me. But that's not to say a woman can't handle it. Mr Roz's big boss is a woman, and she is sharp as a tac, and really defines leadership IMO. I worked/am working for idiotic men though. Why do the women stand out? (thinking this to myself) This has led to thought provoking discussions with my inner self.

So maybe it's not a woman/man thing, it's a "I'm surronded by idiots in leadership" problem I have. :headscrat

edited to add: I asked myself if I would vote for a woman president, and the answer if yes, of course. As long her agenda aligns well with mine (which is very complicated, I think I need my own party, I can't figure out anymore who I idenitfy with/trust)

That's where I'm at - I don't care if they presidential candidate is male/female, black, white, hispanic, chirstian, catholic, islamic, jewish..... or any and all other combos you can think of -
I just want someone in there that will do a good job.
Maybe if there was a good woman in charge (I wouldn't necesarily vote for just a woman - it would have to be someone I felt would do a good job!) we could get away from the "good ole boy" system in Washington!
Anyway - as far as women in charge - I'm the 1st female Cub Master this pack has ever had - and I know there are people bothered by it - but I figure if I do an outstanding job they'll figure out that gender isn't the issue - it's the quality I bring to the Pack that matters. It helps that I'm a nutty Californian - anything goes there!
I've had my share of female co-workers I couldn't stand - but DH is in an all male squadron (special operations- no girls yet) and after 3 months in the desert with them he swore they were worse than women. I guess it all depends on the dynamics.

Ya know - I just realized what a thread killer my post could be - so i decided to post an entirely more nothing-like post!!!!!

We took in a garter snake today that has been a pet of some friends here for about 3 years now. He's a beautiful green color from the tree-frogs he eats! They decided to get a bird and didn't have the room for him. He was wild and they were just going to let him back out - but we decided we'd love to have him. He's so sweet and tame. Anyway - the kids are outside trying to catch him tree frogs right now. I loe frogs - so I feel sorta bad - but the snake has to eat!
Soozay-:grouphug:
Hope everyone has a great evening! (got mine started off with some Shiraz.....)
