Let's rent an RV and pick everyone up and hit OKW....

OMG - I am sooooo there!!!! I would give you two %*^$& co-workers, a 9 month old that has decided to grow so she is getting up 2-3 times a night to nurse, and two little boys that aren't going to make it to 5 and 7 if they dont KNOCK it OFF for a frosty beverage, something sinfully salty and just awful enough to be good "drinking food" and a seat in that RV!!!
Ok - that wasn't my best sales pitch! Let me try again.....I will leave the 2 #$^#%*&^ co-workers and the small children home with hubby if you will PLEASE RESCUE ME!!!!
*please* :faint:

Can you buy my DH some SENSE with whatever CENTS are left in the vent jar after the RV purchase?!?
Ugh. The man has been nursing a sore back for about 3 weeks now. He went to the chiro back in week 1 (thinking it was his pinched sciatic nerve from 2 years ago, back to haunt him.) Well, it wasn't, or whatever they did before isn't working, because he can hardly walk! AND HE WON'T GO SEE A DOCTOR. Last night he slept in the recliner - says he can't sleep in a bed. Well THAT ought to make our trip to US/IOA and WDW REALLLY INTERESTING in just 3 weeks!! So he FINALLY calls the doc and gets an appointment - for the day before our vacation!! I told him to call back and sound URGENT, for Pete's sake. If he has a disc disorder or some such thing, we need to know. He doesn't know whether to use ice or heat - and frankly, nothing is working. I have fussed 'til I'm blue, and last night, I heard him telling his folks about it. HE then asked if I wanted to chat with his folks - I said most certainly NOT. Last thing I needed was my MIL telling me how I MUST get him to a doctor, and didn't I know he needed medical care?!? Gee, ya THINK?!?! Easier to move a mountain to Muhammed, I swear. ONly thing that got him going and prompted him to get his appointment moved up to tomorrow was telling him (a) no roller coasters for him and (b) now we will have to push him around the park in a wheelchair. He really didn't cotton to the idea of that (although our son thought it would be cool to put Dad in a "stroller" for a change, LOL). SO maybe tomorrow we will have answers.
As for me - I too am sweatin' it. No A/C today in our building - YIKES! ANd when the AC does work, it produces this damp icky air loaded with the condensation of the humidity. Ugh. 95 degrees of lovliness.... all week long.
Looks like Mr. Buns will have to attend my So. Living party tomorrow - can't get his huge bun cage out without DH's help, so he gets to stay in the family room, I guess. I'm sure he will love it - he's so lonely with the kids gone anyway! Hope my guests aren't allergic to rabbits.
Well, need to wrap up a few things here, then head home to clean my hacienda! (Why do we clean up to have people come over? Seems to me you should clean AFTER the guests, not before! ANd no fair to clean TWICE!)

here is hoping Mr. Gopher's back is something that will go away and quick!!!!
I know exactly what you mean about cleaning twice Gohperit. The only nice thing is that once you clean up after the party, there is usually a pretty clean house underneath it all still! Heck, without kids, I bet you will be amazed just how long it stays clean! :Pssst:
Hope your party goes well! Tell Mr. Buns he can't have the credit card no matter how much he begs for that new throw rug for his cage (ok - what is a So. Living party???)

Well, Laura, I won't be kids-less for long - I get to pick up the lil' mippers this weekend! It's been long enough - I'm ready for the chaos that once was my life to come home again!!
As for Mr. Buns - funny you mention the rug - I just replaced all his carpeting last night and gave him a new tunnel-tube! He is QUITE the pampered bun! He was so funny, checking it all out last night, like someone doing a "walk-through" on their new home!
As for "what is a Southern Living" party - this is the weblink:
http://www02.southernlivingathome.com/wbslah/websites/ps129722/index.html
From there, if you click on "Our Products" you can see a fair bit of their offerings. It may or may not show my name as "hostess" - can't tell if that's a cookie I have in my computer that brings my name up each time or not. Ain't technology grand. THey don't show everything they offer - but you would get the idea... home stuffs, magazines cookbooks, etc. My main impetus for this party: (a) help my friend out at her party (she got $15 for my agreement to host) and (b) get a wine rack for 60% off (a perk of hosting - I had told the consultant I would host if it would get me a discount on the wine rack. The consultant is letting me do that for this party, even though it's not the "featured" hostess special). I just bought 2 bottles of "Hokie Wine" while at the Virginia Tech Football camp, LOL, and I gotta have somewhere nice to display them, right?
(Then again - maybe I should ditch the party and just DRINK the wine! Who needs a wine rack then? )

Hope Mr Gopher can ride those coasters! It takes a herculean effort for my DH to go to the dr as well. Pretty much has to be dying.
Yeah - our wine rack is currently full, actually - that won't last long! We usually have the rack in a closet somewhere - can never keep the wine long enough to bother!
I'm in on the RV - anytime you want to swing by - you don't even have to stop - I'll just jump on!

Perhaps I can offer my house as the final stop on the 'tour'.
Here at 9300 feet, we don't need no stinkin' AC.
Of course, we do need a furnace and I am fighting X and in Court to get one.
But I digress.
I have a pleasantly cool home, a frezzing cool lake and a lovely sand beach.

And so does Mr. Buns!
Chippendale dancer is probably a closer description of him, LOL. Put one of my dd's very realistic looking stuffed lop bunnies down in front of him and trust me, MR. BUNS WILL DANCE. The other day she left BOTH of her stuffed rabbits on the floor and then my son unwittingly let Mr. Buns out - I swear, the look on Mr. Buns face when he came upon that pair, you could just SEE his thoughts:
"TWINS! Oh MAN I have been DREAMING about this!" :loveisint
Well, anyway, I cleaned out the little love machine's cage last night - he's ready to party with the ladies, I guess. Hope no one is offended. Some folks have issues with animals in family living spaces, but in our house, Mr. Buns IS family, and it is so stinking hot, I am really not sure WHERE I would put him anyway - certainly not outside, and even the upstairs is too hot for him in the late afternoon. (THis type rabbit has very little thermal control, and unless he could get himself sub-terrestrial, the way rabbits do in the wild, he would overheat in a heartbeat.) Besides, I could never get his huge Taj Mahal home up there anyway. About the only choice would be the basement - it stays fairly cool and the door is wide enough to allow passage - but without DH to help me, ain't no way I can manage it. So Mr. Buns stays. I am NOT however, letting the pigs attend - they go up to my son's room. Gotta draw the line somewhere - besides, they are VERY noisy lately.
I have absolutely NO CLUE how many people to expect for this thing - 3 folks called to say they had to attend a swim meet for their kids that night, 3 folks declined to attend but placed an order, and 5 folks called to accept - the other oh, say, 15 people - I have no clue about! So I don't know whether to prepare food and drink for 7 or 17 or what - UGH! Guess I'll find out in a few hours, huh. Stayed at work til 7 pm last night so I can leave at 2 today - do an ice and beverage run, get home and do that lovely flight of the bumblebee cleaning spree. DH is going to doc today - bet ya he has to get an xray or MRI or something of his back. I just HOPE he's home in time to take the sitter home, or by golly, she's staying for the party, LOL! Then, he informs me he has investment club tonight - so he's leaving just as the party starts. I suppose that's fine - all I have at the house is DS11, and one of my friends is bringing her 11 yr old son who's a classmate of my DS, so I figure they can eat pizza and play gamecube upstairs, LOL. THis week has been absolutely crazy ,and yet.... at the same time .... I have had some excellent quiet time with my DS. Really looking forward to Wed. - our last night before we head down to camp to get the other 2. I have NOTHING planned, and told DS11 that the three of us could maybe eat a leisurely dinner, play a game - just spend time togethre, the three of us. He's looking forward to that. He misses his siblings, but he also has enjoyed having the place to himself like Lord of the Manor!
Well, better get some stuff put together here on the working scene - Later!!

Soozay - I dont think I told you congrats on your new job! I hope it works out to be as wonderful and fantastic as you think! Hubby started a new job yesterday...the place he started working for last year never came through with its promise, but the new job is several $$$$ more a year for the same position...hard to turn down! However, I understand the stress of changing jobs, etc. For me, it is the losing vacation thing that makes me BONKERS!!! The kids and I can only do so much without him (ok - I can only do so much with all 3 kids without him :holymoly: ) but I am very glad he seems to be in a place where he will be appreciated MUCH more. :) Good Luck with your new job!
J -Ohio is NOT out of our way! When the nothing RV gets rolling, we can certainly make detours to pick up any and all willing participants. We might even stop in some places to pick up some unwilling participants that really NEED a vacation :jumpingbe
Ginger - I think I missed any updates, but I am keeping your mother in law in my thoughts! Your family too Jnrrt. It is difficult in times of stress and illness. My father, who some of you know has a failing heart, was moved up the transplant list this past week. Went in for a routine test and ended up in the hospital because his heart pressures were too high (WAY too high). So now, he has a perm IV medication to try to keep the pressures down. That moves him up just below the people who are in the hospital who can't leave without a heart. It is not the worst news, but he was upset because he felt fine (you would have to see my dad - he is so "healthy" you would have no clue he has a very bad ticker....every time they do surgery or tests...the doctors and nurses go "wow - you are VERY sick to not look sick". It is upsetting because his good health makes him a candidate for the proceedure, but we also tend to forget a little bit how bad off he is sometimes.) Anyway, the longer he can hold out for not getting the transplant, the better. Apparently, the hearts do fine, but the arteries tend to wear out and have problems after about 10 years and they can no longer do traditional things like angioplasty. So....I hope this medication works. He has to go to the doctor once a week now and has to administer the IV meds himself at home, so it will change their life some, but really not terribly. Just another adjustment. They are lucky to have retired early so they have the "time" to do all this easily. Dad is only 57. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee So, I am blah as well. I am having "gee - if I make it til the end of my DVC contract, it will be a miracle!" blues lately (ok - really - I am worried about kicking the bucket too young. A mom gone at 53 from Breast Cancer...Dad's heart problems....*blink blink* guess I should put down this doughnut eh? :upsidedow

Hey Laura, thanks for the prayers for my family. We really need them lately. Our update is that hospice tells us we have weeks, maybe a month. My dad is doing really well with it considering, but it's really awful. He's only 58. My mom is really struggling, as are we all, and it's been really hard on the kids. And what's really frustrating is all the people (who aren't doctors or nurses or anything medical) who are still calling and saying "Hey, have you guys thought about trying..." like we have thought of much else for the last 3 years. There just is not much you can do about ALS.
I really hope the meds work for your dad. That's scary, and must also be pretty unreal if he looks so good. We'll keep you in our prayers as well.
And Stimpy, if I haven't said it, we've been praying for your son and some answers for you guys!

Having just read several posts in this thread about guys refusing to go to the doctor until they are really sick or in severe pain, I thought I would share what just happened to my husband. Maybe this will motivate some of those guys to stop ignoring their bodies and get to the Doctors.
On the 23rd of June my husband experienced chest pain whilst running. He went to the clinic and they did an EKG which showed abnormalities. He was then taken by ambulance to the hospital. They stabilised him and then admitted him so they could do tests to determine wether he had had a heart attack. After 24 hours they decided he hadn't had a heart attack but the cardiologist wanted him to have a cardiac stress test so they kept him in the hospital and on the Monday morning he went for the stress test. Part of that test involved him running on a treadmill, well after about 10 minutes of running he started to have chest pains again. The medical staff stopped the test and paged the cardiologist. 5 mins later the cardiologist told my husband that he believed he had a blocked artery and that he wanted to do a cardiac catherterization to investigate. Within half an hour in was in the O.R. Sure enough one of the main arteries into his heart had TWO blockages - one 90%, one 80%. The Doctor cleared the blockages and placed two stents in the artery.
Ok so that's not that unusual right? Plenty of people have angioplasty. So here's the wake up call guys --- My husband is 35 years old, he's a healthy weight, and he exercises 4-5 times a week -- has done for 17 years. He's active duty army. And although at first it seemed that this came out of nowhere -- once he got over the shock my husband admitted that all the warning signs were there. He'd being having shortness of breath when he was running for over 18 months, he'd had chest pains in the past and all that week before this happened he had had shoulder pains, tingling in his hand and chest pains. He had told me about the chest pain two days before this happened but refused to go to the hospital. Yesterday at a follow-up his cardiologist, told him that the blockages were so bad he can't understand why he didn't have a heart attack and that had he not gone to the Doctor's that day he would certainly have had one very soon and that given the location it would have been fatal.
I'm not trying to scare anyone just hoping that this might motivate somebody to stop ignoring pain, illness etc and go to the doctor and get it checked out before it's too late

Thanks for sharing your personal experience with us Jam....I think many of us need a wake up call but prefer to hide our heads in the sand (I know I do)
I also rec'd a message today about having a heart attack while you are alone...and what to do until help arrives. I don't know how to link so I'll try to explain best I can:
You are to take very deep breaths and THEN cough as hard as you can every 15 seconds until help arrives.
The deep breaths get oxygen to your lungs and the cough 'squeezes' the heart and sometimes gets it to start beating again.
Oh, and while I'm at it: STROKES! If you think something is going on with you or someone else , do the following three things to rule out stroke:
1. hold your arms up over your head.
2. say a simple sentence out loud
3. smile!
If a person who looks like they are in trouble can do these things when you ask them to, they are probably NOT stroking out.

Jnrrt--I cannot imagine what you are going through. ALS scares the heck (insert stronger term as needed) out of me. To me, it is more mysterious, and more frighntening than cancer will ever be. ok - Kristi - that was hysterical....and you have to watch that Rozzie, she has good aim :D Hope your day gets better!
Jam - thank you for sharing your story. I used to really have to get onto hubby to go to the doctor, but he is better now. I do worry about my step father (it is my "natural father" with the heart troubles) because he has lost all faith in doctors after all my mother went through with her breast cancer and he was difficult to get to the doctor before. I do use the "grandchildren" card when I need to with him, but honestly, my youngest sister has taken over the role as his keeper (but it drives her crazy...which I find funny - why do it if it makes you nuts???) I am very glad to hear that your hubby got through all this without having a heart attack. I hope he has continued good fitness, health and life now that he is getting beyond this! You too! *hug*
Rozzie - dad has had to go on iv diuretics while in the hospital from time to time but what they have him on right now is milranone (forgive the spellings - WHY do they have to use such difficult names for medicines???) to lower the pressure in his heart. They have also upped his blood pressure medicine to take additional pressures off. He has a wonderful wife that really is the ONLY reason that he is doing as well as he is. She watches everything, keeps track of his medicines, doctors appts, handles some of his stress for him - and she tells him when he is being a jerkface and that he better straighten his act out (and well....dad used to be a MAJOR jerkface - to the point that we didn't talk for a couple of years at one point). Thank god for her. She is wonderful and actually is much like my mother was - the same type of person....they were both teachers...good mothers...kind....great grandmothers, etc. Anyway, she gets dad to weigh in every day and if he has gained more than 1 pound, he cuts back on the liquids for that day so he is pretty regimined. The most interesting thing is that he doesn't feel bad right now (sometimes he does though ....it comes and goes with this sort of heart problem) so other than a little soreness in his neck (from the heart cath test) and in his arm where they put in the "pick" line, he feels GREAT. He even made the doctor tell my step-mom it is ok for him to play golf lol Specifically MADE the doctor tell her that. It is just that every time something happens, it is a reminder to us all how truly fragile his life is. I dont know WHERE he is on the list exactly and I try not to worry that when his heart does poop out that he wont be close enough to the top. One of those "you just learn to live with it" things I suppose but sometimes it just gets me down too much!
So - today....I am good :) My babies love me....hubby is being so good lately....and everyone is well. A day at a time really does apply.
Now....where are the Yuengling in the closet??? It is 5 o'clock somewhere!!!

jnrrt~ I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier....in regards to ALS...a VERY good friend of mine's father has ALS....so I know how taxing the disease can be on everyone (including the person who has it). We do the ALS walk (D'Feet ALS) every year...but wish I could do more. If you ever need anything (info, someone to talk to, etc.), just let me know...I'll be happy to even pass on my friend's info if you want to talk to her directly. :grouphug:
Um, TW? Where's the hot tub? Oh yeah, and the bowling alley. We don't really need more than two lanes - I mean, we don't want to get ridiculous. Thanks.
OK Here you go,
I had to squeeze it in next to the driver's seat, but maybe whoever's soaking can hold the map and get the change ready for the tolls.

Hey all,
Well, you are amazingly sweet. Thanks for all the good thoughts, and TW - thanks for the hot tub! If I laminate the map, can I have a turn too?
I agree with you, Rozzie. I think ALS is crazy scary. I knew nothing about it until he was diagnosed, and my response still is, how in the world is there still a disease about which they know so little? Cure? Um, no, no one is cured. Treatment? Um, no, there's no treatment. What do you mean, there's nothing at all to do? Nope, just wait and see how long it takes. Take your vitamins! Well, why do you get it? Um, no one knows why. There's no reason. Well, who gets it? Um, totally random. Sometimes we think maybe if you're athletic? But really, we have no idea. How long do we have? Well, somewhere between 18 months and 3 years. But some people last 5 years. And Stephen Hawking's had it for over 30. Oh, but others die in a couple of months. So really, we don't know. Well, what research is being done? Um, not very much. Not a lot of money you know, it's pretty rare. And how long have we known about it? Oh, it's been documented for 1000's of years.
1000's of years, and we know nothing.
It's gotten to the point that my dad has only been going to the doctor because he feels responsible to research because they don't actually do anything, just document how much worse he's gotten. The only real help he got was at the beginning with alternative medicines that we all think extended his life and made him feel better for a while, and now with hospice. Man, are the hospice people amazing. They've just been unbelievably wonderful to all of us. I don't know how they do their job, but I am so thankful for them.
Soozaay, thanks for walking! We had about 150 people out with us just for dad last year - made him feel great. And he could go in his wheelchair last year. He gave all his grandkids rides when it got too hot.
Sorry to be on such a bummer of a topic, but it hits so close to home right now. Apparently I need to add some to the vent jar too.

Being an Imagineer might be one of those jobs with a curse attached to it. You want to talk about it but you can't talk about current projects. You DONT want to have 2,000 people bugging you constantly about freebies or other requests (like we would do if we had an IN with a DVC person in the know). You probably really love your job (I would hope) but when the most exciting things are happening, YOU CAN'T TELL ANYONE!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Happy Thursday everyone! I still feel full from my dinner and dessert last night but it was soooo yummy. We went to Longhorn (a chain steak house for anyone that might not be familar) and I had a very yummy steak covered in blue cheese, sundries tomatoes and bacon! YUMMY!!! (the sweet potatoe wasn't bad either :) ) Then, since we didn't buy a birthday cake, we went over to Baskin Robbins and each got a cone. MMMMMMM Richard just cracks me up eating ice cream from a cone. That child is COVERED in ice cream before he is done....and he looks mightly cute with a chocolate Fu Man Cho!!!
So, another birthday down. Hopefully we will get the floor in next weekend (wedding this weekend so we wont even try) and then it will be another successful birthday! Thank you all for your kind words!

Well, my dh took the girls to his parents for a few days. I am feeling jealous of my time here, so I stayed home with the baby, and man, it's weird. Like, I picked up the house (meaning cleaned it a little, not literally picking it up, or I'd be on a reality show in a NY minute!) and thought, "hmmm, it might stay this way for two whole days!" and this evening I put the baby down to sleep which took about 10 minutes even with a bath (he's small, not much to wash) and then I was done. Hmmm. Done. So I went downstairs and watched TV. And I watched only what I wanted to watch. And I read the rest of my book.
Weird.
Kind of spooky.

During hurricane season, this will be the 2nd year they do it, WDW offers free dining plan if you book a room with a package. You must buy a 1 day ticket per person. $67. But you can use it toward your AP renewal. Stimp and I are staying at POP, so only $150 a person for 3 nights and all meals. Alcohol not included, LOL.....  :woohoo:

Pam and I are on the free dining plan at Pop too. When you stay at a value, it really is so inexpensive that you just can't NOT go.
Pam (matysgranma) started this all back in may...so I'm going twice in September.
While I love my BWV, the cost, as Rozzie pointed out, is a couple bucks more than the dining plan ($38), so I tell myself that I am staying at the Pop for $8 a night!!!!
Roz: the trick to having good weather on ALL your vacations is: 1. no bragging. (I bragged once about my luck visiting Hawaii in rainy season and next trip it POURED for 7 straight days. So,you didn't hear this from me IYKWIM 2. Pack a raincoat. I just put one in the zipper portion of my bag that separates the suitcase from the wheel frame...and forget about it. Somehow it appeases the rain gods. 3. Think happy thoughts with no mention of the need to have good weather: this is key. If you start saying how you want to spend every afternoon sunning by the pool, chances are it will rain every afternoon. If you worry about it being cold for the cruise or wet for the Segway tour, it sort of brings it on. So just think about the things you might do that will be fun w/o hooking them to the weather. 4. Most important, try not to WORRY about what ifs. If it helps , get travel insurance and then just let it go.
Stimpy: where are your ADRs? We have Le Cellier, WPC, Rose n Crown, Les Chefs, Marrakesh and Boma. :jumpingbe

I know the feeling Roz. We have the trip in Sept planned - but if there is a hurricane here, or anywhere nearby, DH will either have to leave to evacuate the helicopters to a safe location, or he will have to go do SAR (search and rescue) for whomever did get caught in the storm. His squadron was very busy because of Katrina last year and the storm didn't affect this area at all. So we're holding our breaths that nothing happens (for numerous not so selfish reasons as well). We both really need a vacation!
Hey Stimpy, just saw your posting on the other thread about Harry Potter not being so prevelant in your household.
Well, when your little guys are ready I highly suggest reading them to them. I started a few years ago when DD was in 2nd grade and really enjoyed it. Got so that by the time the last book came out in July '05 she and I went to Barnes & Noble at midnight to get one of the first copies. (She also shares Harry's birthday July 31!)
DS is now going into 3rd grade and is ready to start the whole series with me as well. Unfrotunately though he has seen at the movies and the books are not as exciting as they were for DD.
Anyway, I hope TS Beryl isn't ruining your siding any more and it passes quickly.

Hey, #13! Woohoo!
The free dining about killed me this year because we already had ressies at BCV and I was in a real quandary about going regular hotel with free dining, or keeping my happy DVC plans and paying. The idea of kids in a hotel room won, plus we have a DDE card, so we stuck with DVC, but it kind of hurt. And I made my ADR's really early.

His squadron was very busy because of Katrina last year and the storm didn't affect this area at all. So we're holding our breaths that nothing happens (for numerous not so selfish reasons as well). We both really need a vacation!
Kristy....What kind of helicopter does your hubby fly?

Spent half the day running errands in my DH's International Scout - it has NO A/C !!!!!:blech: He took my truck - and I can't complain because he's going grocery shopping for me. But boy was it miserable. Wiped me out getting so hot for so long. So the BFD sounds even better!
Cub Scout fishing derby tomorrow morning. Have to be there at 6:30 in the morning. Why can't fish enjoy a late breakfast like me??? :tilt: Of course - then it would be beastly hot.

PoohsPal~ Thanks for the well wishes! Today was so hectic...talk about everybody wanting a piece of me before I go (getting projects done)....geez! Don't tell anyone!!! :Pssst: :kickingco
DH & I are going to Atlantic City Sunday night (he took off Monday too) & staying at the Bellagio (the nicest hotel in Atlantic City IMO). He loves playing poker & I'll just play the penny slots (more my speed). What I like about staying over is that I can always go up to the room if the cigarette smoke in the casino gets to be too much.

MMMMMMMMmmpeach...hits the spot. Lots of ice.
It's warm even up here in the mountains! Denver is over 100. TW...hope it cools off before you head to Boulder.
My pirate costume came today....yes, the boardwalk babes (well 3 of them) are dressing up, along with half a million other MNSSHP goers, as pirate babes. I normally scrouge the thrift shops til I find something (peasant blouse, skirt, vest) but instead I went on Ebay. I can't say alot about costumes that come in packages. If I 'redo' it, it will work. But the vest didn't even have grommets for the ties....and don't mention boning. I'll have to make some pirate bootstraps (spats) for my crocs. I think that will be the touch of humor that it needs.
Anyone else clean out under the keys of their computer? or do you just buy a new one when the old one gets grody? I had a sticky key, so I took the thing apart ...boy it gets some kind of gross in there. Bleackkkk. (or should I say arrrrghh?) Now the keys are clean and the sticky one is fixed, but the plastic must not be on right cause it sure clacks a lot.
Moving on: I'm going to a wedding mid AUgust. It's in the cathedral at Notre Dame University in the afternoon and then an evening reception. I have a great dress BUT it is made for the evening and definitely NOT church. Do ya think I could wear it with a a silk blazer and then take it off for dinner/dancing? It's mostly black, but with some cream and green embroidery that I thought I'd pick up with the jacket and shoes? Have to find out where the girl is registered for wedding gifts. I'm really looking forward to it!
Ok...everyone, have a great weekend!

Am I too late for the peachy drinks?? My really crappy few days is apparently aiming to turn into a crappy month!
Thanks for the support everyone. Storm was a big nothing in the long run. We had a few not too long scary bouts of rain, thunder and lightening but nothing major. But just found out that more warnings are in effect for this afternoon
These darn hurricane stories in the paper are just scaring the you know what out of me lately. Storms never used to bother me before, not even hurricanes. But they keep saying in the news that LI is due for a Category 4-5 that could be like Katrina, if not worse here. On top of that, we live within the "catastrophic damage" region...you know, the "catastrophic" flooding, homes being wiped away type thing, again very scary. On the plus side, we're about 1/4 of a mile below the border they use.
Of course, due to DH's job, he must go to work so it would be me home with the kids and pets etc. How ironic that he works in probably one of the safest areas should a big storm hit. :sosad: We still joke about the blackout a few years ago...while I was home with DS and no electricity, no A/C, no radio/tv etc miserable in the heat, he was called in to work...where he drove around in an air conditioned car, with internet access no less ;), for a few days. (They even offered to put him up at a 5 star hotel for the night but he stayed at his parents instead) Somehow I don't think I'll find it so funny this time.
I don't know how you guys that live in the bad weather hot spots do it! OK, enough whinning for now, I promise!
DH and his neighbor friend got the siding fixed...sort of. It was like watching a three stooges movie! They had to borrow another neighbors 30+ feet ladder (he's in construction) and watching these 2 in action was a scary site. Neither one knows much about being handy around the house. My job was to watch the 4 kids and guard the BIG window on the second floor. Of course the siding came down right over the big window with the arch over it...the one that would probably cost a small fortune to fix! After many scary (& bizarre!) attempts just to get the ladder in position, they finally were successful. Dh was able to climb up, nail the siding on for now. But it was blown around so much and bent that it will have to be replaced soon. Atleast there is something up for now.
Soozay...good luck in AC!!!
Kristy, hope the fish are biting!
Carrie, dogsledding? In Alaska? Sounds amazing!!
CB, can't wait to see pics of the pirate babes!

Erin, you can have my seat on the bus - my kids are all back from camp and I'm going to be doing laundry for the next millenium! (Unless maybe I could use the hot tub, temporarily? :scratchch And a bunch of hairdryers? )
It was a very eventful trip down to N.C. and it's so nice to have the family all home together again! My kids were so cute coming in the house - DS10 says, "Ooooooo - it's so DIFFERENT! What is different about it? " DD6, "I know, I know, it's CLEAN!" :hahahaha: I actually had made SOME changes while they were gone (and yes, cleaned, too! ) so I sort of expected SOME reaction. Man, opening up their trunks was illuminating.... a real test of the senses, LOL! My son's dirty clothes actually smelled BETTER than his "clean" clothes - he had packed two or three VERY wet items from a muddy creek day in his trunk in less than air-tight plastic bags. Those items were created four days ago - so they have "steeped" in that trunk with his clean clothes all that time in the summer heat. Ewwwwwwww. :blech: :faint: ) The only one who seemed to appreciate the aroma was Mr. Buns, who was constantly hopping all over the ever-mounting dirty laundry pile like it was heaven on earth he planned to claim for his own! I was concerned a few times because I thought I might accidentally toss HIM in the wash with the clothes!
SO I think we are on Load #4, and my allergies are in HIGH gear (two main things I am allergic to: mold and dust. Yikes.) ANd mind you - I already did 4 loads at my sister's cabin before we left to come home! I will post a kid's camp report on a separate thread, so as not to consume this "nothing" thread with too much something", LOL. I have some GREAT stories to tell, as well as pithy observations re: kids and camp, since as many of you know, I was rather leery about sending my dd anyway.
So what have I missed? Anybody got some Cliff notes on this thread? Glad to hear everyone is weathering the weather ok thus far. Is anything brewing now down in the tropics? I need to start watching that, I guess, with our August WDW trip coming SOON! Fill me in on the latest "happenings" - I feel so out of touch, as if I'M the one who was out in the mountains sans technology for 3 weeks! I'm clueless! :idontgeti

Cliff notes...:hahahaha: :hahahaha:
I don't know what myspace.com is, but if you can really wash a keyboard in the dishwasher, I guess it must be an online closet. Wait, it's Nono that's in the closet. Or coming out of it.
Today, after a little tennis tournament (I left a little early but I think I won!!!!...on the female half of mixed doubles), I decided it was time to 'finish' the pirate costume that I BOUGHT. Please, don't ever do that. First, I bought grommets for the lacing holes. Then, I bought material for the boot'spats' that is shiny black. I bought a yard of some other material for a $1.00. Wasn't sure what for. Got home.
Tried my handy dandy grommet attacher that I found from years ago when I sewed all my daughter's dance costumes. It did NOT work, or lets say I couldn't make it work, which may or may not be the same thing. So, I wasted 10 of 14 grommets that wouldn't stay attached. Undaunted, I decided the vest was tooooo short and tooo tight. So snip snip cut cut u-ni-kay, I pieced the vest into 3 pieces, added a long 'ruffle' at the bottom sewed in some stretchy sidepieces....ALL BY HAND. Those of you who sew know that by machine this was a half-hour job. I couldn't get either machine to work, however; so I did it by hand. And sewing by hand is NOT my most favorite thing in the world, but might be almost my most unfavorite.
It isn't done yet. After I get the pieces back together, I have to figure out how to cut the ruffle for the most flattering effect. sigh. I think when I wear this concoction to BUNKO on Tuesday (pirate theme...trying out the old garb with a gaggle of women first), I'll wear it with CROCS. We are MODERN day pirates and I think that is what a modern day pirate would wear, don't you?
So, the kids are back from camp, the storm is passing over, the heat is still killer most everywhere, even here at 9300 feet, my grass is about 2 feet high (but I can't get the mower to work), I still have to prime my sprinkler system (and we are talking about 3 of 7 acres, and I have 10 HUGE dead (beetle-kill) pine trees all down my driveway.
What a life!!!!

Stimpy----how I just adore hurricanes. Mr. Rozzie and I are opposite. I have to report to work, and then they lock us down and won't let us leave. For our protection (yes the hospital is in a VERY bad part of town), but it is just horrible being away from my family and pups during a storm. Mr Rozzie stays at home (my rest of family evacuates) and stays with pups. We don't leave the pups, and he has to be close to the restaurant. Thank god we have always had phone service. My cell phone was the only one that was left working after Ivan in 2 floors of the hospital. Like 50 people wanted to use it! (of course I spread the love). We have to sleep on the germ infested floor, and eat goop for food during lockdowns. During Ivan, no AC, no lights, no flushing water, no water period. No toliets. I could not wash my hands. Which is somthing I do about 25 times a day. WE the staff had to use bedpans and bag up our own "creations". I peed, but no way on #2. I told one of the docs to schedule for a bowel resection, b/c I ain't doing it. Proud to say, I held it till I was able to leave! No showers, my hair was so greasy, and No AC, no windows to open, oh we would stand by the one's that were blown out. :sosad:
okay, don't mean to scare you, but to tell you this. It is okay, you will be fine. If you are in a low lying area, leave. That is the real danger. The news really just takes this stuff and runs with it. Most of the deaths in Katrina were from flooding. People who couldn't leave, or wouldn't leave. I know my dumbass BIL stayed 3 blocks from the Beach in Biloxi MS with a 6 mth old baby. Dumb is not the word I told him to his face, well via DH. Anyhoo, don't let the media get to you. You will be fine. To me it is never the storm that is the worst, but the aftermath. (no ac, no internet, no cable, no hot showers, etc) They are telling us down here that we are going to get whiped from the face of the earth this season. I just tell everybody at work, as long as the CAT 5 doesn't come aug 24-27, I can handle it!!!!! :Paranoid:
okay, don't worry friend  I know it is hard not to worry, but just live each day one at a time. I had myself so worked up before the season started I was having nightmares. (can you tell that i am not only talking to you in this post, but to myself also!! LOL) What will be, will be.
Now, I am off to invent my anti-hurricane blower for the Gulf. Millions will be mine! Next contracts are on me!!! :howudoin:

Does anyone else hate myspace? ArrgghI'm with you Jen. WHile I see the original idea as a fun site for self expression, the entire thing has migrated into a soft-porn hook-up site. Our kids schools had a few sessions on cyber-safety this year and myspace was the #1 example of places not to get involved in. Facebook is right behind it. Their schools have posted very strict rules on the use of these sites and written disciplinary policies regarding them. What gets me are the number of parents who are not paying any attention to this.
Anyway, off my soapbox for now and dropping some change into the vent jar. Man does that RV eats up gas!

HELP! I need your ideas!
What to get DD turning 12 next week?
How about a cute boy turning 13?
I AM kidding - I am consistently stunned by the # of parents around here who think it's so grand that their 4th and 5th graders are "in love" or "going out" with the opposite gender... GO out? Good grief, where and how, to Dairy Queen on a bike? They can't drive! And these parents think nothing of taking their kids to the store to allow their kids to buy their "clutch de amor" pricey gifts and such, really egging the whole thing on. For Pete's sake, we live in West Virginia - teen promiscuity rates are high enough without fanning the flames of their adolescent hormonal fire... (and at age 11-12, I don't wanna even see SPARKS, thank you very much!!) I'm such a party-poopin' rodent, huh.
BUt seriously -- what to give, what to give. What about an experience? Is there an event that you could give - like tickets to something in the future? A particular band or show or trip to someplace that you could get tickets for maybe her plus a good friend for a fun weekend? My son got tix to a Phillies game and loved that; my other son loves getting NASCAR tix. Or a trip to Pittsburgh to hit all the fun stuff there. I'm thinking about getting tix for he and his dad next year to maybe a Flyers vs. Penguins or Phillies-versus-somebody around here game. Or tix to a Va. Tech football or basketball game. What I think is cool about this gift - it lasts forever, and the time spent together is the biggest part of the gift! (My DS9 thinks a night in a hotel room is the coolest part, LOL...) My DH got a gift card from each kid for Father's Day to a restaurant, but the condition was - he had to use it with the kid who gave it to him, and that kid ONLY. It gives him a chance to connect with each child, separately, doing something fun, without any distractions. We do this at XMas too - we each have a "date" with a kid during the days preceeding xmas, doing something of that kid's choosing - maybe a movie, or a trip to see the lights somewhere, whatever. We try to do it at Disney as well - I already have a "date" with dd for MK doing all the girly stuff (bfast at castle, etc.) while DH takes the fellas over to DQ for the day.
Meaningful jewelry is nice, too - maybe something that could be added onto (I think I got one of those add-a bead necklaces when I turned 13).
If you want an "it's all about me" gift, LOL, you can do what my sister did - her dd got a glam session / photo shoot at age 12. For a girl entering those sometimes awkward adolescent years, it can be a real self-esteem trip (and fun - maybe even more if done with a friend?) I did this with 3 pals when we finished grad school - we are SO not the type to get "glam" (c'mon - we're like, science geeks, so just imagine!) and it was such a hoot to see each other all made up! Of course, be forewarned - if you cringe at the thought of your 12 yr old in make-up - this is not the gift for you, because they use it very heavily, and the young mind might think that's the only way to look "fabulous" is with a heavy coat of paint. Ewww.
Of course, it is always amazing to me what KIDS think is a "cool" gift. We gave DS11 a new computer for his birthday - the teens next door thought that was AWESOME. :highfive: DS11, however - not so very impressed. :( What did he like best? A can of flarp and a $2 pin-art board a friend gave him. 6 mos later, he still plays with both! The computer, yes, he also uses, but in his mind, it's a piece of technology (which equates to school and learning - like getting underwear for your birthday - you need it, so does it really count as a gift?) and the price / magnitude of that gift therefore eludes him.
Good luck!
THanks Goph.
I like the experience idea - she loves theater shows - the whole experience of putting on 'nicer' clothes, going into town, maybe even a meal thrown in. Hmmm, maybe give her two tickets and let her decide later whether mom or dad go....
And you can be sure THIS dad is in no way ready for any hormonal flare-ups! :faint:

Oh, gopher... you're about to get me started! DD10 had a "couple" in her 4th grade class this year. Their parents would take them to dinner and the movies. I thought DD was making it up, but sure enough, it was true!:faint: Where do they go from here, if dating is okay in 4th grade? They'll probably have 3 kids by the time they are in 9th grade! I know that I'm extremely conservative, but I'm just flabergasted at what other parents allow their children to do.
But the way, what's the lastest on Mr. Gopher's back?
Rozzie, tell your brother to GROW up. Stop running to Mama if he has a problem with you! To be honest, we see our family at least three times a week, but we go to church 3 times a week, so there you have it. If we didn't worship together, I'm not sure how much my girls would see their Aunt. Don't get me wrong, she loves them very much, but she is single, working full time and doing court reporting school over the internet, which takes hours of her time. I never expect her to babysit. I have asked on occasion when I wanted to go out to dinner alone with DH.(maybe every other month) She has kept them when we go out of town (maybe once a year) for several days. In that case I pay her money for all the gas and food. When we went to Vegas for 5 days I gave her $200 to keep the oldest 2 girls. My Mother also kept them part of that time. I hope she never feels abused, I would never want to take advantage of her. She has no kids of her own, and my girls love her to pieces. They would much rather spend time with her, than me!:)
The situation with your Mother calculating old check book registers is just nuts. Frankly, I think the next time she whips them out, I'd burn umm!:burningma Maybe you should ask her if she expects to be paid back for HER decision to have children? Did she actually think kids were free?
Stimpy- I'm anxious to hear about the DR. appointment for you DS. I'll be making some soon for my DD6.
Sorry if I've missed anything else! Still trying to crawl out from all the camp laundry. I think I'm on my 9th load since Friday night!

Rozzie - You asked ofr cruise details. Southbaound Glacier Bay Discovery from Anchorage to Van Couver, 7 days, 10th Anniv trip. I'm excited, but it's not WDW, so it's different. ;)
Do we know if Stimpy's OK? I hope things wre not too bad!
How 'bout nono? I really hope she did not hurt herself pre-storm boogie bording again.

oh just another me venting on my mother post. Believe me you didn't miss much! She keeps all check book registers, and sometimes during big fights she whips them out of her desk drawer and adds up how much "I cost" her growing up. Then reminds of all the sacrifices she has made, and where she could be financially in retirement if I didn't have to "cost her" so much.
Speaking of family issues, I told my brother I would come over today. I am so tired, I think I am going to not do it! My mom and I argued all the way home last night (on cell phone) from work, and she said my brother is about "to wash his hands with me". Well get out the Dawn and the scrub brush, I worked 30 hours in 2 days, and go back for more on Wed. I am relaxing. :Pokepoke:

You guys are making my family seem pretty tame :duck:
Rozzie - I agree with Erin on both counts. Tell your brother to grow up and stop calling MOMMY to bail his butt out! Also, tell your mother if she chooses to bring up those check registers again (the next time she tries it) that you wont participate in her mental abuse of you for a decision she made and leave. Honey - you are worth 20 of those people the way you give and care for everyone around you!
Carrie - I am JEALOUS!!!! That sounds like so much fun! I certainly hope that you have a fantastic time and I can't wait to hear what you think about it. Hubby and I are trying to plan things for this coming year vacation wise and we might actually rent our points and just use the cash for a few long weekend trips (which are much easier to schedule since he doesn't have vacation again) and go to the beach for 1 week in April (instead of WDW) with my dad because he likes to do that around the time mom died and it has hurt his feelings that we have gone to WDW these last 2 years. So - he will have the joy of putting up with us all for a week at the beach. He might be rethinking that "all together" thing by 2008 hahah!
TW1 - I think the "future event" thing sounds FANTASTIC!!! She is getting to be a young lady now and will probably enjoy being treated like one. Also, you and mom will get a chance to do a thing or two with her alone which sounds like gold to me! That Gopherit is always full of the good ideas!!!
Stimpy *hug* hang in there honey! I hope all is well for everyone!
BTW - the Mentos thing works GREAT  Use Diet Coke and you dont have sticky mess to clean up. Be warned, once a few of the Mentos hit the Coke., you have a blasting fountain, so drop them all in quickly (a paper funnel worked GREAT) and get back! Our fountain shot up at least 15 feet in the air. :p The kids loved it! (can you imagine lol )

I think most of us here would say that makes you a GOOD mother figure Ginger - - - not mean :) (Of course, we aren't your future children lol which I know is what you meant)
Soozay are you enjoying your little "mini vacation" before starting your new job? Best of luck tomorrow hun!!!
Rwe - you are so nice to give things like that away! :blueflowe That is why I keep coming back to "nothing land" - surrounded by good people! :cheerlead

10 year olds dating?!?!?!?!?:scratchch :headscrat :sosad: that is just wrong on so many levels.
TW - I think the tickets/experince would be wonderful!
So - DH has a night flight, I came home from 5 hours of babysitting and the ceiling in the kitchen is leaking again! DH won't be home until about 2am. So there's a bucket n the floor and untold damage happening to our kitchen ceiling. Trying hard not to have a temper tantrum.

Oh my sympathies on the ceiling - we used to have a house with more leaks than a sieve -WHAT a nightmare. If you have an ounce of sanity, you're already ahead of where I would be!
Erin I am SO with you on the laundry thing! I counted up the loads I have done in the past 2 days - easily 15 VERY LARGE loads! All those clothes, linens, towels - ugh. The only good thing about it is as I'm washing stuff, I'm taking what we need for our vacation and setting it aside! SO in a weird twisted way, I suppose it's helping me pack? :veryconfu
I got a call at 10:15 pm tonight from a mother who wanted to know if my child was coming to her dd's b'day party, and if so, couldn't I bring another child with me whose parenst said their child couldn't make it to the party because they work? THought that was a bit brassy. Plus, my momma taught me ya just don't call folks after 10 pm. Where's good home-training these days... 4th graders dating and phone calls after 10... the world is going you know where in a hand basket.
Looks like my dd came home from camp with a parting gift - I thought her eyes looked miteee tired yesterday when we were out shopping for new shoes (someone at camp walked off with her sneakers... literally. Good thing they weren't new or I might have been ticked!) Anyhooo, today they looked even MORE tired... pink, in fact. And in her own words, ""and goopy, too." Yup. Pink eye. Knowing it often comes with an extra gift (and I don't mean Rice-A-Roni), I asked her about her nose / ears - how did they fell? "Well, my nose is ok," she said with a small sniff of proof, "but HOW did you know that one of my ears is really hurting me?" I am betting we've got one serving of ear infection with a side of conjunctivitis. I suppose it's just as well that I take her to the doc tomorrow. I need a new Rx for eye drops for pink eye - it will be good to have just in case, while we're at Disney and grubby little paws rub tired little eyes. ALso, I need to consult with Dr. about the ears anyway. Last trip to WDW, DS11 got a wicked case of swimmer's ear - yowch. At least now that I know what to look for with that, I can hopefully avoid a trip into Quick Care and my ped can instead just phone in an Rx, but I want to cover that with him first. He's pretty good at trusting me with things like that - I guess it's a trust we've built up over 11 years and my 3 kids and many, many visits, LOL!
Well, better get my other 2 munchkins off to bed. I am betting I have done myself no favors tonight. I rented "MIB" for the kids to prep them for Universal Studios. I had forgotten about the graphic imagery. Honestly, that eldest boy of mine has an extreme photographic memory. 2 weeks from now, he will probably come up to me at midnight and say, "Mom - I can't get the bug alien out of my head. Every time I close my eyes, I can still see him so clearly and he grosses me out." He had a book once of optical illusions. One of the pictures (an old woman that if turned upside down looks like the devil) REALLY bugged him. I finally told him one night to RIP THE PICTURE OUT. Figured it was the closest thing to cathartic therapy around. It seemed to help, though he STILL talks about that picture, and it has been 3 years since it got shredded! If he could just use that photographic mind for good instead of evil... well, maybe not so much evil, but fretting and obsessing is defintiely not the best use of his talent, that's for sure!

Gopher, what is with swimmer's ear and WDW? No one in our family had ever gotten it, but we did there, and $120 later had the tiniest bottle of ear drops (that we had at home, thank you very much) that they swore to me would be reimbursed, but weren't. Harumph. And yes, we pack the drops now.
Well, I slipped. Back to #12. That Norman! He finally got me. Let's all go vote, you nothingers!

Yuck to swimmer's ear. My DH got a nasty case of it last year. I've always put a little alcohol and vinegar in my ears after swimming. The Dr. told my Mom about it when we were children. DH never would do it. But after what he went through last year, he does now. LOL :)
I don't call anyone after 9pm. Heck, I don't call anyone at all if I can help it. I would rather email someone and let them answer me at their leisure.
I thought Disney was going to officially announce the F&WF events yesterday? I don't see them anywhere. I think the only thing we want to buy tickets for is the PFTS. Hope the price didn't go up too much.
It's a rainy day today.

Science - heck - we just want to watch it blow up!:beaniepro
I hate getting those late night phone calls - my heart always leaps into my throat - I'm expecting bad news about relatives. Although I'm getting more used to it - CA is 2 hours behind us and very frequently our families will forget to think about that and call at 9pm their time..... not a good phone time for us! I figure I'll get them back at call them at 5am their time!!!:D
Ug - pink eye. I hope it doesn't make the rounds through all the kids..... that's miserable.
OK - off to OT and Speech therapy and then we go clothes shopping. Heaven help me!

Okay, I guess I am out of the loop too, never heard of the mentos and coke thing!
Gopher, the laundry pile at my house is really getting fun. First I found about 3 towels that did not belong to our family. I asked DD10, "whose are these?". "Oh, Conner(my 10 year old neice) and I shared a laundry bag, because she didn't have one!" I started laughing at my kid. Not one of her brighter moments. Called my Sister, tell her of our brainiac children's activity, tell her that I now have 3 of her towels. Yesterday I found a pair of pants, another towel, some underwear that do not belong to us, a nemo t-shirt, and a girls speedo blue bathing suit. DD says I don't think all of that is Conners! No telling who it belongs too!:tilt: My sister also said that Conner completely lost her tennis shoes last year, this year she came home with a pair that match, but one is a size 6, the other a 3.5. Not sure what to do with all this laundry that doesn't belong.
Calling after 10, somebody better be dying, or on their death bed to call my house that late! Depending on the person, I won't call past 8:30, unless it is really an emergency.
Off to the orthodontist this morning. Gotta get the braces tightened. I have to say, I am completely amazed at how much DD's teeth have already moved in a month! In fact, I could tell a huge difference in the 1st week. Hopefully she won't have to have them that long.

Hey Ginger---me too!! I really can't stand talking on the phone, even Mr Rozzie and I don't talk much when he is out of town. "you're safe" "where are you if I need you?" People will call and leave messages, and I will email them back. Yep, poor manners, but I can't stand the whole phone tag thing. Takes way too much energy....plus I don't like calling, because I know I don't like phone calls AT ALL, and I would rather get messages across when I know I am not interupting their day.
Keep your eye out for F&W, I keep thinking any day now! I want PFTS too! Plus a lunch and learn. They sold out so quick last year, and it was the highlight of our trip.
phone calls past 10pm? You better be bleeding, profusely, too. I jump out of bed 10 feet when the phone rings late, always thinking the worst. If it is a work night? . :burningma
Gosh and I wonder why I have trouble with family members, and have a hard time making friends???? :upsidedow
Dating in the 4th grade? Oh my, I can't even imagine. I was not allowed to date until I was 17. Strict yes. But I am glad my parents were strict with me. Can you imagine how I would have turned out if they were not? I had a hard enough time as it was. These parents who think it's "cute", what morons!! A recipe for disaster. Do they not remember being a teenager, or a preteen I should say? And we wonder what is wrong with today's youth. :scary:
All this laundry talk is making mine feel neglected. I can wash it all right, dry it okay, but it is the folding and putting away. Mr Rozzie just throws all his clean clothes on the guest bed, then I get lazy and do the same with mine. Pretty soon, closets are empty, and each morning there is a trip to the guest bedroom to find stuff to wear. Yes, and I wonder why MIL always talks to herself when she is here.....

A parent calling after 10 about a birthday party??? I would have lost it! I usually refuse to answer the phone after 9PM....the answering machine works well in my house ;)
Erin and Gopher, I feel for ya's with the laundry/camp thing. DS only goes to day camp and he comes home with strange clothing. :veryconfu Since he changes about 3-4 times a day now, the laundry gets out of control! (1 time in the AM for camp, then changes at camp for water play then comes home gets changed into clean clothes etc)
Voted J! Still at 12...come on everyone! :kickingco
Swimmers ear....we learned about that on our last Disney vacation. DS got it bad late at night. Dh was able to find a helpful CM to get the drops and childs tylenol from the gift shop after hours. Fortunately it work and w
