I voted again this morning Jennifer, your up to 67 now! Anything that will get you more points! Of course with all your new points you'll need to rent a GV and remember all of "little" folks who knew you when......

Rough morning, the little one wandered down to our bed shortly after midnight last night (considering I carried her to her bed at 11:00) she hadn't been asleep very long. She then tossed and turned in our bed which I did my best to ignore. What I couldn't ignore early this morning was the sound of her vomitting in my bed!!:blech:   Thank goodness DH had already left for work since it was on his side of the bed. I stuck her in the shower, and changed the sheets. She promptly announced that she ate too many cookies (oreo's to be exact). When I asked her how many, she said "two". I had a nice little quart size ziploc bag of oreos's leftover from making homemade cookies and cream ice cream for the 4th. I can't find it anywhere this morning. I think that there were probably 7-10 cookies left. Not sure when she ate them. I'm hoping that's it. She seems fine now. You DINKS can write this down on your lists as another reason to not have children!;) To me this ranks up there with the very worst part of motherhood. Maybe it wouldn't phase Rozzie as much since there must be all kinds of yucky stuff in the trauma unit.

Gopher- I had to laugh at the camp clothes story. The first year I sent my oldest off to camp with my sister (I couldn't go, I had an 12 week old at home), I put all her outfits in ziploc bags. Each bag was complete with an outfit and a clean pair of panties. When I saw pictures of her later, I kept thinking "that's not what I put together in the bag, that outfit doesn't even match!" My sister said they all got a good laugh at my expense about my little baggies! Hope she finds the clean clothes trunk soon!

I had to laugh at Gopherit's story re shirt tags and seamed socks too.....
Brought back such a vivid memory. Starting at about age 2 and lasting past age 6 (at least) my daughter went NUTS over the seams in her socks....One time we was crossing the street and she let go my hand, sat down and yanked her shoes and socks off!!!!! I never knew any other child driven to tears because of that sensitivity...but I guess I'm glad to hear about your son!!! (And FYI...they seem to grow up just fine in spite of it!)

I also laughed at the vision of the same camp clothes every day! Do the other kids in the photos have on the same clothes too? Maybe it is a 'thing' they conspire to do to drive moms crazy?:bugeyed:

I'm sitting here remembering my camp days. I also went to camp in NC, for 5 weeks. I couldn't help but laugh at Gopher being able to see online photos. The only connection we had was letters, no phone calls, internet, etc. Just funny how things change. I think it would be great to see what your kid is actually doing at camp.

I have been eating junk food for 2 days. Mr. Rozzie is out of town on business, and I went to the grocery store and the whole basket was full of junk food. Fried chicken, kitkats, sausage for breakfast, etc. I kinda enjoy the nights that I am off and he is out of town, kinda nice, quiet. I feel like a minivacation. Don't get me wrong, I always miss him, but it's nice to have me time. :coffee2:

Afternoon everyone!

Jnrrt - I have voted! I hope this works for you and that you get lots of notice from it! :)

Rozzie - I love love love my babies, but I do enjoy those times when they are away at other places so I can completely understand your feelings about Mr. Rozzie being gone. Just dont tell him! ;)

I am glad to see that everyone had a good 4th and is doing fine. Things are fine here, just not much in a posting mood. Keeping the decks cleared at work and working on my real estate license course is keeping me pretty busy (getting it for work...not to actually sell RE).

Anyone have big weekend plans? We are supposed to put down the flooring we bought las weekend in the boys room. Going to be a project, but it needs to be done for Richard's allergies.

What camp did you go to? I always went to Camp Occoneechee (in NC) for a week or 2.

Gopher, your children aren't at Camp Tekoa are they? We used to have a family reunion there and it was a beautiful camp. Hendersonville is a lovely area. My Pawpaw's mother was from there, so I've always heard nice things about the town.

Too funny about the camp clothes....
When DH picked me up at the airport with the kids, Kyle just had to point out that he'd been wearing the same shorts for 3 days!!! Neither kid could remember the last time they showered.....:help:
The house is still a wreck - I can't catch up! DH decided since he could get help today - it was the day to start tearing off the old roof (even though I insisted today was a really bad chance at rain.....). Now we have about 15 leaks in the roof, and DH is up there in the rain trygin to get the plastic to stay on. Buckets in the attic and on the floor..... He says he wanted to replace the popcorn ceilings anyway....:bugeyed:
The house is still a mess, and we're so busy I can't catch up. Trying to do school, therapy, swim meets, and everything else, and on top of that I've had a fever for a few days.
The trip to CA was pretty bad (Napa was nice but that was it), I really just need a good day.
Here's $20 for the vent jar!:crackedup

I drove past Tekoa and Greystone - that area is RIFE with camps! It's as if someone came through and said, "Oooh! A little lake - let's build another camp!"
And another...

And another...

And ANOTHER!

I went to this little shop called The Wrinkled Egg and it was easy to see how many camps there are - they do a humming business just sending out camper-pacs to all the camps! They had stationery already return-addressed for all the various camps - there must have been 6 or 7 camps listed, and many many more they deliver to that weren't listed! I caved to peer pressure and ordered care packages for my dd and son - it was easy to see how much the campers foamed at the mouth every time the Wrinkled Egg truck drove through the camp delivering goodies to the more fortunates, LOL. So yes, I COULD have shipped it cheaper from home, but aww shucks, I'm such a sucker, especially when I'm missing my kiddos!

ANYWAY - my dd is at Ton-A-Wandah (all girls camp), and DS is at Carolina (all boys - and it's technically over in Brevard, not Hendersonville). When I was looking for a camp for DS, I think my sister put us on every boy's camp mailing list in a 30 mile radius - good grief, we are STILL getting flyers and CDs and such from various camps around there!

Erin - I laughed at your note becuase that is EXACTLY WHAT I DID! Every single outfit is paired with socks and undies, all nicely matched and sealed in a gallon ziploc bag! SOme of the bags are labeled for specific events (like the dress for the dance, or the white shirt/green shorts they are supposed to wear on SUndays). I suppose if nothing else she will HAVE to change clothes by Sunday, since her current outfit is red! My sister says her dd did the exact same thing at that age, and that she swore when she came to pick her up, my niece had 20 days of wear / meals/dirt caked on her little shirt! Ewwwwww. I guess the upside - no dirty laundry to wash! Just chuck the one totally exhausted outfit and you're good to go. I suppose it might make our Disney packing easier, LOL -- I'll just exhume the unused ziploc bags out of her trunk and put them in a suitcase - voila' ! Packing done!!

CB, my dd has the same tag obsession, but DS went a whole day once wearing his dad's socks and one (only one, mind you) of his brother's shoes (they had the same style / color from Land's End, but his brother's foot was about 1.5 sizes bigger at the time! When I asked him about it, his comment: "Huh. I wondered why those socks were so long. ANd that explains why my left shoe kept comin' off." He honestly could not possibly care less. Just a few weeks ago, he was wearing a size 6 bathing suit he dug out of some drawer crevice.... might I add he wears an 8?!?

I will say - I did finally find a source for seamless socks at a reasonable price and it totally saved my dd's and my relationship this past winter! Every morning was a tearful battle - and then I bought 15 pairs of seamless socks! I only wish every battle were that simple to solve, LOL....They are by "Giggles" and they are sold at the Hanes/Leggs outlet. I have also found them in Belk's/Profitt's.

Well, I'm off to go buy knee pads and a helmet, along with a slab of pork for the fried rice. Cheers to all! :hyper:

Kristy, I'm so sorry about your trip and the chaos at home! That is no fun to deal with - I hope you get a working roof without wrecking all your ceilings!

I'm also laughing at all the camp stories. My mother always tells about the year she sent my brother and he'd outgrown everything, so she bought him all new clothes, and when she got him home he had one shoe in his suitcase. So the next year she went to garage sales and sent him in the nastiest, most stained stuff she could find, and of course, he was so traumatized by the year before that he brought every stitch of it home. I know that when I went, my camp actually was divided into two teams and you accumulated points for two weeks and then saw who won, and they were smart - you got points for showering and brushing your teeth, so even if you didn't want to, everyone else on your team would make you.

Oh, and I'm at 62 :) .

Oh yes, THE LINE as my DD referred to the seam. Every morning getting dressed for Kindergarten/ 1st grade, I would put the shoe on, and she would rip it off screaming "the line, the line!" Wish I would have known about seamless socks then. It's a battle every year before school to get tennis shoes. My girls wear sandals and crocs all summer and then they can't seem to find any tennis shoes that are comfortable. My oldest was the worst! I think I drug her to every shoe store in America looking for school shoes that met her criteria!:help:

Oh Kristy, sounds like you are having a miserable day! If the water spots don't dry and fade, try some white KILZ spray paint on the ceiling. We had a water stain on our ceiling once and this worked wonders. Hopefully tomorrow will be a dry day!

But the good news is that I have 2 tickets to the 9:30 pm showing of POC.

Anyone ever tried something called Mintwater by http://www.metromint.com ? It was on sale at the grocery store, so I bought one. I bought peppermint. The mint water is great! Actually...I can feel the magic. No DOA's yet, but my appeal's attorney did write that if the judge granted X's motion to evict me and sell my house 'as is' that I had 3 fairly strong options: a stop order from the court of appeals on up to a fairly expensive motion to the Colorado Supreme Court. I was thinking of this: well, it's been such a nightmare and so full of arbitrary and complicit orders that I wrote to Oprah a while back. And I just heard from Harpo Productions that this is going national.....untrue, but it would make a few people cringe a bit and maybe they'd have a heart attack!!!!!

Thanks for the magic....I believe, I believe!!!:ROTFL:

Bavaria, my empathy to you. I had a trip to Belgium lined up... and wahhh, stuck here. So much for my dream of a burrow lined in belgian chocolates.

CB - we may chuckle at the Harpo idea, but trust me when I say that sort of thing can and DOES work. I can't go into full detail, but when I was in college, lawyers were pressuring my mom to drop a lawsuit. I took it upon myself to write a letter (as if written by her). It was the 1980's and while Oprah wasn't a factor, shows were beginning to pop up that were meant to "expose" the bad sides of society, so to speak... sensationalist, sure, anything for a buck, but nonetheless, scary if you had something to hide or image meant anything to you. So I write this letter to the legal consult pressuring my mother, stating that yes, they were right, I should pay my bills and cut my losses, life is too short, the road has been too long and painful....after all who would believe a story like ours anyway? Which just makes it all the more unbelievable that the producers at A Current Affair were even remotely interested in the saga... small town politics, doctors and lawyers and judges involved, I mean who would care what they did wrong, right? So maybe the right thing to do would be to drop the lawsuit, just go public and tell my story (for my own good of course - to get it off my chest, have closure....), and just get back to living my life with my children....

My mom really had nothing to lose at that point except more money, but there wer several who, if she DID go public, would suffer greatly. Well, ironically, the case suddenly settled really quickly out of court - imagine that. I have no idea if the letter did the trick or not, but I surely don't think it hurt at all..... and the fact that the settlement included a clause that she could NOT go public with the story is probably no small coincidence. Sometimes the pen is quite mighty after all. It didn't get her the vindication or justice she wanted, but it did get her out of re-living my father's death every day of every week of every year as she had for over a decade during the whole ordeal, so from that perspective, it was a victory of sorts. My heart goes out to you as you work through this - and whatever pixie dust I have, consider it yours!

Talked to my son tonight (the 10 yr old one currently staying at the all-girls camp until his boys' camp starts!) He's apparently been adopted by the cabin full of 13 yr old girls - hearing him talk about his days at camp is just TOO priceless. I guess my sister tried to get him to pal around with the girls his age, but he found that too scary - said one of them seemed nice enough and invited him to go swimming with them later, and he said, ok, sure - so she excitedly yelled back to her cabin mates, "He's going SWIMMING with us!" and they of course, in catty fashion, said, "Yeah yeah yeah - we hear you - we know - and yes we KNOW you have like a mega crush on him, too!" He said when he heard that he said, "Uh, WHATEVER!" (I can just picture his face - eyes wide and rolling on that info!) and decided he would rather hang out with the older gals because they "promised me they would protect me from the girls in Holly and Pine and make sure I did NOT have to dance with ANY of them." Too too cute. So I guess that explains why, in the latest photos I've seen, he's hanging out with all these older girls - he's kind of like their new "pet" kid brother, LOL. That, and he hangs out at his sister's cabin, where he says he is revered like a God, LOL. By the way - looks like my dd has discovered the Joys of Clean Clothes - today there were photos posted of her in 2 different - clean! - outfits! And apparently, she wore an evening gown and sang, "I feel like a Woman" into her hairbrush at the talent show tonight. Now THERE'S something I would have paid to see! :sing:

Well, tomorrow we pick DS11 up from Boy Scout camp - should be interesting.

Later!

Anyone ever tried something called Mintwater by http://www.metromint.com ? It was on sale at the grocery store, so I bought one. I bought peppermint. The mint water is great! DH thought the water tasted like mouth wash. :) I think it's cool and refreshing. It's minty, but not as strong at Peppermint liquor (which was my shot of choice during my college days).

Ugh, thanks for bringing up some miserable nights after drinking and bad hangover memories from college Ginger! :ROTFL:

ooooh.... I like the Oprah idea.... sounds like that kind of letter writing could get you somewhere.....
Ceiling is all spotted, but seems to have dried out. Thankfully no rain yesterday and we're hoping for dry today as well. He should be able to get all the tar paper stuff rolled on today - and that can't stand up to a big storm - but at least it'll keep the attic dry! I'm going to let the ceiling totally dry and then go get the white Kilz.... fun fun fun.:crackedup
OK - so I'm trying hard to be socially concious. I bought organic, Fair Trade Millstone brand coffee - the only Fair Trade coffee they had at the commissary (military grocery store) - and it isn't very good.:thumbsway I've never bought the Millstone brand before - so I don't know if it's the whole brand or what. I bought 2 bags of beans, though, so I'd better get used to it!!!:( Of course - if that's the worst part of my day - I should be very happy!
I got the house somewhat cleaned up, got antibiotics for my sinusitis, no rain, and we got quite a bit of school work done yesterday. Things are looking up finally.:cheerlead

ALL: thank you again for all the support you give me every day. It really does help. I'm feeling a little more positive in that I finally got the attention of my appeal's attorney and I thing that the crooked judge will be too afraid of throwing me out of my house. I'm rather fond of it; took me 5 years of grueling manual labor and emotional stress to build it back in the 80's, once fixed up properly it is worth millions, and I 'd sure hate to have to burn it to the ground (rather than let any hos in there , IYKWIM). I just have to face the facts that I have to let people know what is going on. Haven't done that..and it is long overdue. Oprah? Are ya listening? (Thanks Gopher for telling me your story...it might be an option and is worth thinking about seriously) Ok...going dark for a few days so that I can concentrate on 'stuff'. Take care all! Kristy, I've had Millstone coffee, but not the fair trade kind. I don't buy it often because we subscribe to Gevalia, but the Millstone I've had was good. What kind of coffee are you used to drinking? Maybe try making it stronger or weaker and see if you like it better.

DH and I cleaned his office today. There was a leak in his building and most of it went into his office. It was cleaned and painted, but whoever did it did a terrible job. We steam cleaned his carpet and it smells and looks a lot better. He works for our local county, so you think they would do a good job. LOL :)

Tomorrow we are going kayaking for a few hours. This will be the first time we've been all year. First free day we've had. Should be fun. I've been thinking about looking at a new kayak. Mine is old and slow. But I've got to save some $$$ first. Not sure what I want, something fast! Might go see Superman tomorrow too.

I just drank a not so good beer, Sam Adams Cream Stout. Won't be buying that again. Good thing I only had 1. A local store lets you build your own 6-pack. Now that I think about it, I don't think there is any Sam Adams beer that I really like.

Hey, mickeyndvcfan, I just looked at the calendar, and I think we'll be staying "across the lake" from you for at least the last part of your trip in September. We'll be at BCV from 9/17-9/23. Nono, did you listen to the Fish on Our Cars song? THe lines were like something my kids would make up, LOL... (to tune of "And they'll know we are Christians BY our Love") I am wondering if it's (a) a kid's song or (b) a song created by someone actually poking fun at Christians.... like a Weird Al of Agnosticism?

"We will sit with each other, in a pew or a chair...we will sit with each other in a pew or a chair! And we hope nonbelievers will see us sitting there, and they'll know we are Christians by the fish on our cars, and they'll know we are Christians by our cars!"

Any blueberry pop-tarts in there?

Took the kids to a local farm to pick blueberries on Sat morning. Man were those good! DW made a bberry pie Sat afternoon and that's all we had for dinner, with a side of Edy's slow-churned vanilla ice cream of course.

Sunday we drove to the Jersey shore to take a bike ride along the boardwalk. Should have gotten there a bit earlier 'cause by 10am its a mob scene. We started in Ventnor and rode north through the Atlantic City boardwalk. Kids really got an eye-ful at the bleery-eyed characters stumbling around outside the casinos at 9:30 on a Sunday monring. (Hmm, maybe mob-scene was a good choice of words...)

Spent the rest of the day on the beach. While I love a day at the Jersey shore it really makes me glad that we bought at HHI. There just isn't any comparison. DW swears we will get an add-on there after these latest rounds of home eqs. are paid off.

#37- you are getting so close to that Add-on Jennifer! I wish I could actually hear some of the songs, but my sound is not working on my computer. I keep forgetting to ask DH to fix it.

I couldn't sleep last night, I thought that I had broken our "new" laser printer and figured DH wasn't going to be too happy. We have one laser printer already sitting in the floor that needs to be repaired (not my fault), but it broke down while I was trying to print the graduation programs for my DD. DH said it had to be sent off and went out and bought a new one so I could get the programs done. All has been well until last night. I was trying to print a t-shirt transfer and didn't read the directions(imagine that!). The directions specifically state not to use the transfers in a laser printer, only inkjet. I didn't notice it until I ran the transfer through and it MELTED in my laser printer!:help: I tried to run some paper through afterward and it kept jamming. A nice burn smell was being emitted too. I turned it off so it would cool down. I was so worried that I had ruined it, I couldn't sleep. As soon as DH left for work this morning, I hopped up out of bed and turned the printer back on. I printed about 30 pages of stuff hoping to clean the guke out of the printer. At least the pages went through, and the last few pages didn't have black lines on the backside. Hopefully the guke is gone and I won't have to confess to DH what I have done!:innocent:

Busy week this week. Have a Home and garden party fiesta for a friend that has just starting to sell it. This means that my house has to be cleaned ( a major issue with 3 children at home all summer). Next week the whole family is headed to Bible camp, which means I need to pack for five people for a week. Friends from Birmingham are in town for the week, so we are having dinner at LuLu's with them tonight (such a sacrifice on my part!;) ) And an Ex boyfriends' little sister called me Friday (haven't spoken to her in 15 years) and is going to be in town this week and wants to get together. Should make for some interesting conversation!

Well, need to go get dressed. DD10 school list is supposed to be posted outside the school this morning. She can't wait to find out who her teacher is going to be! Hoping for a much better year this year!

Speaking of mail - thanks, Susie! I had to laugh at DS11, though - apparently the "status symbol" that mail is for dd6 and ds10 is not exactly the same for a ds at Boy Scout Camp. I guess depending upon the mail, they tease you about it (Ooooo, a PACKAGE from Mommy!!!) Whereas mail at my other 2 kids' camps is a revered and sacred, wonderful thing, mail at DS' boy scout camp makes you quite the "spectacle". ("Postcard here for EVAN, troop 117! Who is it from? Your GIRLFRIEND?") DS11 was so funny - he said, "Mom, I have a question - why did you send me so much mail, and more importantly, WHAT do you know about THIS? WHO IS THIS?" (Holding up Disney postcard so nicely sent from Bavaria -- BTW, thanks Bavaria!!) I explained it was a "surprise" card from a nice friend of mine, and he seemed SO much more at ease - I think he thought that the camp was "making up mail" just to tease him and have a reason to call out his name! Ah the inner mind-workings of an 11-yr old - I guess it's always "about him", LOL, and everything is suspect until proven otherwise! Anyway, thanks again Soozay and Bavaria - you guys are the best! I'm sure all 3 kids will greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness - especially DS11 now that he knows he isn't being stalked by evil Scout counselors, bwahahaha.... :bugeyed: ....

Talked with DS10 yesterday - TOO CUTE. Apparently he is QUITE the hit at the girl's camp! He has spent the past week there while wating for his camp session to start, so he's been swimming, playing sports, dining, etc. with all these girls all week. Saturday they had a dance, and from what we've heard (from him and my sister) and from the photos on the web, his dance card was FULL. So when he left for his all-boys camp yesterday, he wrote them a little letter thanking the girls and staff for being so nice to him during his week there (I was very proud of this when my sister told me because this was something he did all on his own - we had reminded him to thank his aunt, but he took it one step further to thank the whole camp!) SO my sister finds this letter in her cabin, and gives it to a counselor to read the letter at breakfast - kind of a thanks and goodbye - by the time you read this, I'll be at the boys' camp, but I want to thank all of you for the great week, sort of thing. Well, the girls CRIED! My sister said they all got teary eyed over it, from the 13 yr olds that "adopted" him, to the 6 yr olds that chased him, to the 80 something yr old director, you name it! Too precious for words. I hope he's enjoying himself at the boys' camp. He doesn't know it yet, but he will get a chance to see all his "girlfriends" next week when they come to visit Camp Carolina for the day - that should be interesting! My sister says he will either be the envy or the enemy of his newfound male friends when the girls show up and he knows them all and they all make a fuss over him!

Hey Erin - hope that printer is okey-dokey! Hate it when stuff like that happens. This must be the season for home parties - I attended a friend's Southern Living at Home party back in Jan. and half-heartedly said, "I should have one of these sometime... thought it would probably have to be summer when my kids are out of the house, LOL." Well, the salesperson took me at my word and put me down as having "booked a party"! The hostess of the party even got a perk for it, I guess. So it dawned on me that if I ever planned to make good on that, I had better do it while I only have 1 kid to clean up after (well, 2 if you count DH). So next week, I'm hosting a party. Honestly, I don't mind attending these things by and large, but I loathe hosting - I think I have hosted a total of 2 parties like this in my life! I always feel like I'm begging my friends to buy things on my behalf - and yet, I don't feel that way when i attend, so not sure why that happens - guess I'm just a guilt-driven gopher.

Hey TW1 - I am SO WITH YOU on the Jersey shore versus HHI thing. I grew up in S.C. and spent several weeks each summer on the S.C. coast. Then I married DH, a boy raised on the mob scene at Rehoboth Beach. I remember when his dad took us all to Atlantic City - ugh. In this southern girls' eyes, the jersy/De. shore is just that - a place where water meets land and WAYYYY too much humanity! Now a place like HHI? THAT is a BEACH! DH and I honeymooned at Kiawah Island (near Charleston S.C.) and that was where I first learned that to DH, if it ain't churny water with big waves by a board walk, it ain't a beach. ANd he learned that placid water, wide beaches of firmly-packed fine sand and little if any humanity was MY preference. We both discovered that "a day at the beach" meant totally different things to each other! 16 yrs later, I think we see a FEW of the merits of each other's idea (I confess - I love some of the kitchy little shops on the boardwalk, and the food... he has developed an appreciation for how well you can build a sand castle or play paddle ball on a S.C. beach, LOL).

Well, gotta go plan a trip to CHicago. It ain't exactly Belgium, and it's just an overnighter, but oh well. Honestly, not really in the mood to travel - I am going to Va. Well, let's see, the wedding is at Broadway United Methodist Church on N. Broadway Street. Not sure where that is, but that's why we have googlemaps. Pretty sure it's downtown, though. My friend is not a suburb-y gal. She's a stage manager, and I know she likes to be able to walk to work.

I haven't been to Chicago in a long time - I think not since my brother was in school there. And I've never been when I would have had any money to see anything. So if you had maybe half a day with your sweetie in Chicago, what would you do? I'm assuming most of the time we'll be doing the wedding thing, and I can't really pawn my children off for too long to someone else, but we might be able to squeeze something in on Sunday before we'd head back. We love aquariums - maybe we'd try to catch that.

Yeah, that's probably downtown. If you like aquariums and you have the time, I would definately check out the Shedd Aquarium..it's awesome. One of my favorite places to visit in the city, if I just want to take in the sights & don't have much time is Navy Pier. There's a huge ferris wheel (with cage like things that DON'T sway back & forth), shops, little restaurants and you can walk to the end, sit on a bench and just take in the gorgeous skyline & Lake Michigan w/ all of the sailboats :sailing: . Be forewarned about going to Chicago in August....it WILL be hot & humid...no lie...it's like Florida hot & humid  (put no Mouse or palm trees to devert your attention!). Hope you have a great time!!

Finally made it home from my errands, lunch with my mother, staples to get the cheapo school supplies of the week, Tire store to get the nail out of my tire, and Walmart for camp supplies and groceries. I'm worn out already! We also went by DD10's school to check out the list. She is listed under "New Teacher". Apparently the teacher I requested transferred schools. I didn't get choice B or C on my list either. She does have some sweet kids in her class though, so hopefully all will be well. Gotta get some more cleaning done on the house or tomorrow is going to be a miserable day!

Jnrrt- now I've got the Jefferson's on the brain!:innocent:

Bavaria and Soozay- so sweet of you to send mail to Gopher's kids.

Gopher- I have never done the Southern Living one. I usually don't like to do these party things, but she's a really good friend and I wanted to try to do her a favor. I hope she can get other bookings off mine, maybe it will help her to get started. I know what you mean about feeling like you you are begging. I called one close friend today and asked her if she got her invitation (which she hadn't). I told her the party was from 6:00-8:00 come and go. In other words come, buy something and then you can leave!:ROTFL: Thankfully she laughed!
Too funny about your son at camp! Wonder if he'll end up having a better time with the girls than he had at boys camp? I'm with Jnrrt, the teenage years may be rough for you with this kid! How's little sister hanging in there since big brother is gone?

Well, got three loads of laundry to fold, and no one else is jumping up and down for a chance to fold it...

Boy, take a day off and sooooooomuuuuuuuccccchhhhaaapensss.

The funniest thing is that it looks like half the board is going to be in Chicago in August!!!!!

I'm flying in August11 and flying out August 14. In between times, I'm going to a wedding at Notre Dame! I've been invited to stay with the birthday girl, Pam aka Matysgranma. I'm flying into Midway. I think we might need to have a minnie-meet!!!!!!!! I would also prefer Disneyland Paris, Bavaria, (and thanks for thinking of me), but I love Chicago in summer by the lake. And I'm really excited about seeing Notre Dame for the first time!

The camping story really is adorable! Must make your day:sunny: !

I have a bit of reprieve re my alimony being cut in half but am still fighting the eviction from my home. Evil judge and as-sattorney were no match for my comments re having a hearing end of July while the appeal's court is ruling on an issue. I cited a book on Colorado Law and the Appeal's Process. It didnt' hurt that the book was written by a Colorado Appeal's Court Judge and a woman named A.W.Gill who just happens.....to be my appeal's attorney! I don't think I imagined a small intake of breath when I mentioned this in the phone call today....and the judge decided that he agreed it would be 'imprudent' to hear the issue at this point in time. So I have a few months to conduct a rather expensive forensic accounting. Sigh. Perhaps we could crush the nothing bus into the court house and get on TV and be famous!!!!!

Just a lazy day here. My brother asked me to go out in the boat with him, but I have been feeling puney since yesterday and passed. I was a good sister and went over to help celebrate his birthday yesterday, and enjoyed myself. Evidently there is a feeling still that he believes I should be over there 2x a week, and my mom thinks more like 3-4X a week. I feel that that is a little over doing it myself. So I guess I will be the bad sister that doesn't care about her nieces and nephews since I only go over there about 1x every 2 weeks. Oh well.

I had 2 horrible days at work this week, have 2 days off, and then going back in for 2 days. The 15 hrs really kill me. Plus I was in charge, which I hate. I am not a "in charge" type person, never have been, never will be. I always have said a great leader needs a loyal follower, and have always been happy in that position. Now not only am I getting yelled at from Docs about my own patients, I have to round with em', and get yelled at about patients I have never layed my eyes on before. Plus having to tell 20 year nurse veterans what to do, and dealing with their attitude adds extra frosting to the cake. I just get really nervous, being responsible for 40 patients, plus my 7, a couple of RNs and a random tech. Then there is the realization that I have to be a witch add a *b* to get what needs to be done, done. I was so tired my last night when I got home, 16 hours later, I was going to write my 2 week notice but fell asleep. I am better now, just not looking forward to going back, that's all. Plus this is Disney money I work for! How do other people do their jobs without Disney as a goal??

*deposites $10* in the vent jar. Okay sorry to take up space with my vent. Carry on nothingner friends!

CB, hope your ex doesn't listen to the news and get any weird ideas about your house! Between your horror court stories, watching BIL go through an ugly divorce, and watching too much Jerry Springer/Dr Phil, I'm pretty convinced I better stay married!

Can't type much today....I smashed my index finger in the car door last night. :scary: I know....genius me  I'm really losing my mind lately. Today at the grocery store I tried to put my kids in the wrong car seats! I opened 1 car door, told DS to get in while I took DD to the other side. As I'm buckling her up, I look and DS is standing next to me. :veryconfu I look at him, look at the other side of the seat and wonder why he isn't in it. Then it dawns on me that I had them in the wrong sides of the car and DS couldn't get into his sister's baby car seat! :bagovermy I had actually buckled DD into DS's booster seat already! (which uses the regular seatbelt!)

Someone send a drink my way! :o

Yeah #27!(Insert the Jefferson's song again!)

CB- my Mom is a court magistrate. She deals with your exhusbands type all the time. She is always telling me, "don't ever take me to Dr. so & so" I had him arrested today. Most of the time it's for physical abuse of spouse or girlfriend (not saying that's what happened with your case ), but then when she has to deal with them afterward they are such jerks. If it's physical abuse she always tells them that they cannot return home, and they get really angry. They all seem to have a God complex. The whole world should bow down and worship them...:worship: Anyway, her list of eligible Dr.'s is getting really small, and we live in a small town.

Well the party is over. It was fun. Gettin myself some nice little freebies for being party hostess. I cleaned house all day yesterday, so today, I'm doing nothing! Actually, I think I'm going to take my girls swimming with a friend and her kids.

Stimpy- So sorry about your finger!:boohoohoo It hurts me just thinking about it. I totally agree with your pregnancy burning braincells theory. It is scary to me somedays how much memory I have lost. I blame it all on the kids!

Rozzie- we got to get you a new job girlfriend! When I get back from camp in a couple of weeks, we need to plan another lunch date and get Kristy to come over too.

So I had to order from Lands End, which is having a sale atleast :cheerlead , but I'm crossing my fingers that the stuff gets here in time. In a couple of minutes I'm on my way to a job interview with the Township I live in. I didn't apply for this job, a friend of ours owns a store in the town and knows alot of people (big cheeses). He told one of them about me and that I'd be interested in possibly working for the Township (which I would be). Low & behold, they call me and ask me to come in to interview for a position before they "open" the position to everyone. I am very excited, but nervous too...I always get nervous with interviews. The pay scale is a wide range....hopefully I'll be offered this job AND be offered the salary towards the top of the range (I wouldn't be able to justify changing jobs if it was at the lower end). :fingerscr

That had to be the EASIEST interview I ever went on! :scratchch They only asked me a couple of basic questions and then talked about the position. When they asked what salary I was looking for, I told them and they said ok and wasn't out of the range (normally they say that it's much too high) :woohoo: . Now I just have to wait and see. I hope everything goes well (but how could it not with the Nothingers & pixie dust on my side!). I should know by the end of the week or beginning of next week.

If I DO get this job, my current employer will be floored to say the least. This company is struggling to stay alive, I'm the only admin/office person they have (the company is based in Chicago, but has offices in NJ, NY & VA too), and they don't have the funds to hire someone new....it's very difficult to describe the mess. I would really like to get a stable job/career to take me into retirement (I am NO WHERE NEAR that age) that I can grow with. Since 9/11 (the 9/11) I have had 3 jobs, all because of lay-offs, closings, etc. Companies in the area that were successful before 9/11 suddenly lost it.

OMG...the dress! I completely forgot to tell you when I got it. It came yesterday. It's very cute...it's a keeper....but let me tell you this. I don't think I'd pay full price for it ($34.95). It's a jersey material and made very nicely, but I think the $34.95 is a little steep. A word on disneyshopping. com sizing.... they seem to run a little small (the women's sizes), so I would order the next size up. This may just be me...I ordered the next size (because of various large parts of my body) and am glad I did. If I ordered my usual size, I probably would've had to return it.

I got DH the matching hawaiian men's shirt. He loves it & it fits him fine (ordered his usual size)....I really do hate men sometimes.....lose weight faster, clothing sizes run true...yada yada yada... :headbange

Jersey as in knit? Is it a true wrap or faux wrap?

Yeah, like a heavy t-shirt. I thought it was going to be linen-type....like the men's shirt. And it's only the top/chest part of the dress that is a faux wrap...not the skirt part. It'll do....not a favorite...but for $11.50, I can't beat it.

Measuring didn't help. I should have gone bigger according to them.

That stinks! Glad I didn't look at their size chart then! I also have the luck of being 6' tall....it's super hard to find pants, dresses & bathing suits (long torso). :violinist This dress just made the cut.

I ordered thos dresses and shirts in kid sizes for my DD, DS and DNephew! Figured they could wear them to Ohanas when we go in November and hopefully we can get a really cute pic of the 3 of them together. I was also surprised the dress was the material it was.

Disney clothing, from DIsneyshopping.com, the Disney Store, Disney World, always seems to run small in everything I order! The kids and infant clothing are the worst! The last time I bought DD a 2T in something when she was still wearing 12months and it was tight on her. She only wore it once. I always order things 2-3 sizes larger from Disney. (And I don't order anything for myself! Just can't deal with THAT blow to my esteem ;) ) Come to think of it, I always run into the same problem with Children's Place clothing which now owns the Disney Stores.

And my dh just bought me a new bike helmet, he had to return the adult one because at the smallest size it didn't fit, so I had to find the least "youthful" of youth helmets. Yikes. Guess I was right about the kids grabbing brain cells! But don't worry - clothes don't fit when you're short either. In fact, I'm still waiting to find the woman who thinks it's easy to find clothes. Men's sizes make a lot more sense. Like, use some actual measurements? That's radical!

So - I woke up this morning to the sound of
"Mom! There's a snake in my room!!!!!"
You all know that we're doing construction in the backyard - so I figured we'd disturbed some of the little garter snakes that are all over here, maybe a black racer. I nonchalantly go into my son's room to go pick it up with a stick - and lo and behold - it's a coral snake. :holymoly: Gulp. Of course - I have to keep my cool in front of the kids - told Alex I was glad he followed my advice and came to get me (little animal lover).
I got it under a bowl and we are currently waiting for animal control to come get rid of it. (How long do these people take when there is a venemous snake in the house?!?!?!?!? It's been 30 minutes already!)
Of course, the animal control lady is trying to tell me that it's a kingsnake - but I know my snakes. We even looked up a picture of it on the internet to make sure.
It's only about a foot long - so I'm worried we disturbed a nest of them. I'll have to ask AC what they think.
DH is no help at all in these cases - he absolutely hates snakes!!! That's why the kids always come to me!

Oh Kristy....
methinks coral snakes aren't something to play with . Arent they the most venomous of snakes in the US? I hope the animal control person that comes can be trusted. Poison snakes and kids aren't a good combination...Please let us hear back asap!
On a lighter side:
I have a history with snakes. I came upon a sleeping copperhead on a hike in PA when I was a kid. In Utah, a rattler baby ran (sidewinded) across my foot on the way to Arches. My cat brought a harmless one into the house and was playing with it under a rocking chair. I thought my kitty was just 'playing', so I bent down and got my face really close and pulled up the afghan. ARGGGGGG....that's as close as I ever want my face to a slitheringsnake. Then on the day a bear attacked my house (but that is another story), I heard what sounded like a sprinkler head that was broken. So I walked over to the flower bed and put my head in it to find it. And saw a coiled snake that was rattling. I never knew I could fly backwards 15 feet without touching the ground. Is there an Olympic sport for that? I too called animal control, but it seems there are snakes that are rattler wannabees: they make the rattling noise in their throats, not in their tail. So I was attacked by a fake snake! Which was of no consolation whilst I was flying backwards through the air!

Soozay....sounds like a great job. Way to go. Rozzie, there are sure hard up for nurses EVERYWHERE, but Florida is paying twice what Ohio is to help with their shortage. Can we say Celebration???????

I'm kinda reeling from the latest judgie decision...but I figure that the more outrageous he gets, the better it will be for me in the appeal...at least I hope so.
Just like docs protect docs, lawyers protect lawyers and judges protect judges.
I'm still thinking Oprah! Anyway, I had to take off yesterday and regroup emotionally, but maybe I need to start being more like Captain Jack than Will Turner, ya know? Anyone know if Emma Peale and the Avengers are still working?
(and you younger kids ain't gonna know what I'm talking about!)

Oh my goodness, Kristy! I think I would have died. We got a mouse in the house when we got rid of our hot tub and disturbed a nest we didn't know about and I told my dh we'd have to move! I like animals, but outside. And snakes, no way, I'm with your husband. Oh, aren't you glad he came to get you first!

On the animal front, my kids went out biking this morning and found a robin's nest that I'm guessing was blown out of our tree in last night's storm. There were two babies on the ground, but they were both trying to move, and nothing looked broken. Of course, I have no idea if they have worse injuries, but I called animal control and they said that robin moms are very protective, and would likely come back to take care of them if they could find the nest. So I reconstructed it as well as I could and put the babies back and put it back in the general area I think it must have come from. Now we're all on the watch for a momma to come back. They were sweet too - as soon as they felt the nest they both opened up their mouths like I was going to feed them. I have to say, for me, that was pretty brave, but man, it does not compare to a coral snake!

OMG Kristy,
I wasn't really suggesting that you were playing with it!
I'm just concerned that a coral snake is even IN the state of Alabama!!!
I thought that they were extremely deadly, and the fact that it is in your neighborhood, let alone your house scares me to death.

I'm googling coral snake right now. What is AC gonna do about a possible 'family' of them? I think you need to take the kids to Disney World right away, until they eradicate coral snakes in your state.

from googe:
Coral Snakes are beautiful, highly venomous, medium-sized (20 to 35 inches) snakes. Their patterning and coloration consists of bands of dark-red, yellow, and black.

In South Carolina there are 2 non-venomous snake species which are considered mimics of the Coral Snake. These are the Scarlet Snake and the Scarlet King Snake. Both of these non-venomous are more brightly colored than the Coral Snake. However, there are definitive ways to tell these mimics from the real thing. The Coral Snake has a black snout, while the mimics each have red snouts. (A black snout is not a universal mark of the Coral Snake. Other milk snake mimics, not native to SC but found in parts of the US more to the west have dark or black snouts.) The order of the colors in the Coral Snake is such that each red band is bounded by yellow bands. On the mimics, the red bands are bounded by black bands. There are vary rhymes used to help remember this color sequencing. The one that I use goes as follows: "Red and yellow, kill a fellow; red and black, friend of Jack." Thus, YELLOW-RED-YELLOW = Coral Snake; BLACK-RED-BLACK = mimic snake. There are a number of other differences such as width of bands and belly patterning and colors. Upon becoming familar with each of these snakes, one will see that each is really very distinct from the other.

Coral Snakes are considered to be secretive, burrowing snakes. Lizards and small snakes are their principal food. They are generally considered rare in South Carolina. I have never found a live specimen. However, the Park Manager at the Aiken County State Park captured 2 specimens within just a couple weeks in the early fall of 1999. Both of these specimens were crossing the paved road. I had the opportunity to photograph the second specimen before it was released in a remote park location. Its pictures are the first collage listed in the table above.

Coral Snakes are usually not aggressive but will bite if held or otherwise restrained. Their small heads make holding one behind the head as is often done with pit vipers very difficult to do so safely. When threatened Coral Snakes exhibit interesting behaviors. Like most snakes it will flatten its body in order to look larger. More interestingly, they will curl their tails to form an enlargement that may confuse an attacker as to which end is the head. They will often hold the curled tail above the ground to further the illusion. The relatively short length of their tails seems to enhance this technique. Additionally, they may hide their heads under their bodies or even burrow them into the sand. Another technique they will use is to move in sideways jerks. This makes trying to pin the head especially difficult.

Coral Snakes are egg-layers. There is some indication in the literature that Coral Snakes may breed in Fall as well as Spring. Eggs are laid in early to mid Summer and hatch in late Summer/early Fall.
I urge all amateur herpers to refrain from hands-on handling of Coral Snakes. And, if you are not well-experienced with venomous snakes, you probably should not attempt to handle one even with a pickup stick. (Hooks are not very useful since they are not inclined to staying quietly looped over the hook.) Because Coral Snakes have such highly toxic venom, if you are in doubt as whether a snake is a mimic, treat it as if it were the real thing.

Well...it is for sure a "red and yellow kill a fellow'" black head CORAL SNAKE.
EGGS that hatch.....not a good thing

CB - we were on the same web sites today, I see! I googled it all over the place. AC was concerned about more of them - not necesarily in the house (she thinks that was a total fluke and has never had a coral snake in a house before in her 20+ years in AC) but out in our yard. So the kids are going to be highly restricted during the construction of our addition (the main reason the snake was scared into the house I'm sure). As far as how or where it got in - we can't figure it out. I don't think we'll ever know for sure.

CB, we have skunks in our back yard. Do you want me to have DH catch one and UPS it to you? :)

Want to hear something funny? I just got back from the grocery store. I've been thinking about sewing some cloth bags to use instead of the plastic bags they give at the store. (I love walmart bags, they make great trash bags for the bathroom. But my grocery store's bags always have holes in them and you can't reuse them). At the grocery store there is a display of cloth bags with the store logo on them, they are on sale for $3.99. So I buy one. I was looking through my coupons while the girl was ringing up and bagging my groceries. I didn't notice until I got out to the car, but she put the cloth bag in a plastic bag! LOL :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: Wonder what will happen next week when I bring it back to use?

Maybe everyone should send poisonous, venemous, scary spidery stuff. I like the idea of spiders cause the postage woudn't be much of anything. A brown recluse might do the trick. Think I'd put it in his car. Bed bugs might create a fun environment while we wait for the spider to do its work.

As I recall, he is afraid of spiders.

But then, maybe whilst he backs away from the spider, the coral snake could attack him! And then the skunk could skunk him and........

Oh, CB - I could hook you up with any venoumous animal that exists in the US. You name it and we got it in the backyard! I don't think Fed Ex would be too expensive - they're all pretty lightweight!:D
Ginger - My MIL has a milk crate in her trunk full of cloth bags she uses for groceries. Of course - she only gets about 1/4 the groceries I do at a time. I'd have to take a wheelbarrow load of bags in with me to get out of there!
