Sorry, I'm not sure if this was better here or in the movie forum.

I was at the local multiplex today and they had signs up for The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D. It will be released in October in limited theaters. (Not sure of the exact date) Going to do a little more research about it now :)

This would be so cool for DS's birthday party in October! :kickingco

BTW, this is OT but I also got a copy of the 2 Witch Mountain movies at Best Buy today for about $15. I used to love those movies as a kid!

Ok, it's October 20. A little later than DS's birthday :( (10/14)

I can't get the link to work myself. (I used disney.com search and it linked to there but in the summary noted 10/20 as opening date.)

Stimpy - that's great news about the release, but a bummer for your son's birthday. I'll guess you'll have to follow it up with an early Halloween party!

Since the date is solid, I'm putting this under movies - but thanks for your eagle eye!!

Thanks Dirk!

I was hoping for this for his B-day since we both love Halloween! I was already picturing the favors LOL He's already had 2 Halloween themed birthday parties so I thought this would be a little different. Maybe I can talk him into waiting a week if the theater will let us do it during opening weekend :scratchch

I was able to access the trailer but still can't get the site to load.

I'm hoping that it will be shown locally, but if it isn't I'm sure Doug and I can catch a show while we're down at WDW in late October.

I can't wait for this to come out. DW and I saw the original in the theater when it first came out (I just looked it up on imdb.com and I can't believe that it was 13 years ago!!). I think a 3D version would be really cool. Plus, the kids have never seen it on the big screen.

Any news yet on when/where this will be playing?

It starts 10/20 in "select" theaters. I know it's showing in our super multiplex place so I guess you can check local ones first. I think it might also be playing in IMAX too, but not totally certain on that one.

I did finally get the main site to work:

Thanks Stimpy.

DS turns 9 in Oct. and this would make for a great bday party event. And since they get to keep the 3-D glasses, there's one less party favor to buy!

Confirmed.

It's opening on Friday, October 20 at an IMAX near us. DW's heading our to get tickets for the Saturday show later today. Can't wait!

We have an IMAX theater about 10 miles from us. The movie will be at that theater, but it doesn't look like it will be in IMAX format. When I clicked on the link at Fandango, it only offered me the regular theater option.

Rita, thanks for the clarification. I thought that sounded REALLY cool, 3-D and IMAX. Almost too good.

I guess we're both talking about King of Prussia IMAX?

Well did anyone go and see it in 3-D? How was it???? Not available anywhere in my neck of the woods! :(

Hmmm.
I never saw the original...so is this the same movie, only 3 D?

Guess I should make an effort to see it, but we only have IMAX in Denver...

We took DS and 4 friends for his bday party two weeks ago.

It is the same movie, no differences. The new 3-D technology is called RealD or something and basically, as long as its a digital movie, shown through a digital projector, it can be made 3D by placing a LCD screen in front of the projector lens and wearing the glasses. It's that simple. So as the technique catches on more theaters can add this to their offerings.

What I think Disney is doing here, is using Nightmare in 3D since its Halloween and Christmas season to promote next summer's release of "Meet the Robinsons" in 3D (using this same RealD technique). So it costs them almost nothing since the original Nightmare didn't need remastering in any way, just the expenses of the 3D glasses.

The previews were all regular projection, then the screen shot went up telling us to put on our glasses. The preview for Meet the Robinsons followed, then a Pixar short film, (the one with the snowman stuck in the snowglobe trying to get out and meet the sexy mermaid in the Hawaii tableau.)

It was the first time I saw Nightmare. I liked Corpse Bride but this one wasn't as strong a story line IMHO. I actually dozed off for a few minutes, though it had been a very long day so probably not the movie but me.

So, would I drive to Denver or anywhere to far to see it in 3D? No.

Rent it if you want to see it. Its not like it is a movie built around 3D technology and using it as a component of the film, where as the Meet the Robinsons next summer will be.

One thought I had is that since RealD simply relies on normal digital technology that this efefct may be something available in the home soon with the advent of so many folks buying digital projection and display technology anyway. Just a thought.

It was awsome! We went to the theater in Downtown Disney to see it. In addition to making it 3D, they also made it surroundsound. Doug and I both heard and saw things that we haven't seen before (and we're big Nightmare fans).

I wonder if there are any plans to release it in 3D on DVD (now that we have our own personal 3D glasses).
