our 10 yr is coming up in 2008. Backtrack to our original wedding, which was nice economical, but not Disney. (family upset, wish I just would have done it....) Nice honeymoon, in a budget chalet cooking all our own meals. Okay we were broke.
Anyway, that's my budget wedding story. Been playing around with a Wishbook on Disney Weddings, and woooooowser! The prices. I guess for $4k we could hoop it up for a week and I could buy some major Disney bling. Or a vow renewal ceremony at the Poly. No guests. Just the two of us. Or we could do Grand 1 for an hour and write our own vows. Cheesy?
Should I do a poll? $700 dollars for a Disney character for 30 min? I wonder if you can pick Mulan????
Guess I am just looking for feedback.....

I'll agree with The Viking.
But what's the website of this wishbook? We attended a Disney wedding and with the above quote, they must have spent $$$$$$

I guess I so wanted to get married there but couldn't. I love the idea of something with just Mr Roz and I. No dysfunctional family on the grounds allowed.
Right now my budget is way over, but it is fun to play around with the wishbook. :beatinghe
It is amazing what people will spend on some of these things. :scary:

Thanks Rozzie. I think if you and Mr Rozzie want to do this, then you should. It would be very special and you would really enjoy it.
Just be sure to take lots of pictures to share with your MO friends.
I remember reading about weddings on another thread here at MO a few months ago. If you search it might come up. Someone (forget who) told about their wedding and Great Movie Ride reception and some other people mentioned vow renewal.

Our 25th is coming up, and since we're spending it in the world and also had a very economical wedding (honeymoon, what's that?), we were thinking of a vow renewal too. But like you, I was more than a little taken aback at the prices. I'm thinking now more on the lines of a kitchen sink sundae for two, or maybe dinner at Artist Point if we really want something more formal. I've thought of trying to sneak a minister in to our villa at OKW, I've heard of people doing that, but unfortunately, anything outside has to go through Disney and they're big bucks. Our wedding 25 years ago consisted of us in jeans, the justice of the peace, outside on a golf course, with the owner and golf pro our only "audience". Our reception was a complimentary drink in the lounge of the country club. So even a Kitchen Sink sundae would be a big celebration by comparison! Any other ideas?

Woah - that is pricey to me, but if it is what you always dreamed of, then I say do it!
I would take a cruise or do some other thing we haven't tried yet perhaps but I was never one that wanted a big wedding or even considered a wedding at WDW. Everyone has that one thing they always wanted...and if this is it for you, then I hope your planning goes well :)

$700 dollars for a Disney character for 30 min Not sure, but I think DW would not like me spending 30 minutes with Jessica Rabbit right after having our vows renewed.

It is amazing what people will spend on some of these things.
It really is unbelievable at times!
Not too long ago, I was involved in a private event that included several live entertainment shows, customized for the guests/event. The entertainment show budget alone was more than $ 45,000 -- for group of about 12 guests. It was alot of fun and it pulled off wonderfully and everyone was very happy -- but for about $ 2000 per guest per set, who wouldn't be! :woohoodan
Roz, I'd say go for it.
I'm a true sap for these kind of events. To me, this is what I go to work for - to spend it on once in a lifetime experiences. And this is something you really wanted and you will cherish forever.
Skip the family if it will complicate things. You and Mr. Roz are your own family.
I can forsee DW and I doing this someday, probably our 25th. DW introduced me to the magic of Disney, never went before meeting her, and I'd love to have a big ol' shindig with the kids there for an occasion like an anniversary. It'll bust our meager bank, but I'll stare at those pictures and relive the experience for the rest of my life.
Damn to torpedos, full speed ahead.

We're celebrating our 20th anniversary this December. Unfortunately, it's right after Christmas so travel is really expensive. We eventually decided to do WDW. Instead of DVC, we're paying cash to stay at BWI.
It will be just DH, DS and myself. Another dysfunctional family here, I don't any need any "help" celebrating from either side of the family. We looked at doing a special event dinner but the parks close late that week and it was becoming a bigger issue than I wanted it to be. In the end we decided to have dinner at Citrico's.
We still haven't decided if we will do any actual "vow renewal" on our own. Part of me thinks it's a nice idea, the other part thinks it's goofy and overly dramatic.

Well minor change in plans. Still going, and spending the money, but we have almost decided to take the money we would have spent on the vow renewal ceremony and pluck down for a week long monorail stay. Mr Roz says to plan it like it was our honeymoon, and he will even wear the groom ears for a few park days. Dinner at V&A, a Wishes Cruise, etc.
How cool! The honeymoon I really wanted! It was a choice between the Poly and GF, and CR. GF Lagoon View won. It's where we always talked about honeymooning before we got married. We've done the POLY before, so this is "kinda" a different thing, right? LOL...
I know the GF is so snooty. But remember, I am a snooty snoot! :snooty: (see my POP TR for explaination!)
I been kinda feeling, well it's only our 10th sort of thing. But in our family, it's a major accomplishment. Lets break it down:
My mom-3 marriages
My dad-4 marriages
MIL-4 marriages
FIL-4 marriages
BIL-4 marriages (and he is only 36! :sosad: a record folks!)
And it feels like we are still on our honeymoon, well most of the time, LOL! So there are my reasons for spending major moola. Did I justify it well enough? :Pssst:

I am gonna start calling you S.S.!!!
I think that is an excellent plan! At some point during your trip, I am sure you could set aside something for just you and Mr. Roz to do your own renewal...in your own words...with no one else there. Then you get your vow renewal AND a honeymoon! *smile* It sounds very nice to me Rozzie and I can tell from your posts that it is quite exciting to you :)
So, you are going to let us in on your planning right? Share some pictures and a TR (G rated please) on your return? You know we have to live through each other for special things like this. :loveisint

Better set some parameters lol or poor Mr. Rozzie will be standing there with a paragraph and you will have a book! (actually - he might have a book too :) but still - It hink it would be rather romantic...and hard to beat the GF for lots of wonderful places to do this!)

Awwww, I'm so jealous Roz! I love this new idea! Rather than blow the whole budget in a few hours, you'll have a whole week of extra special romantic memories :loveisint
You better take pics of Mr Rozzie in the groom's hat

Wow-even wearing the groom ears? What did you have to promise him to get him to do that (or dare I ask)? DH says "No way!" to wearing the ears, but I'm sure he could be persuaded. He did offer a honeymoon suite at GF, but I guess it'll be OKW and a Kitchen Sink sundae for us
Gee, s your BIL named Larry? My first DH (too many years ago) had his 4th wife at age 36, and she was 19!
Have a great time on your anniversary!

Sounds like an awesome idea about the "honeymoon". :beatinghe
I agree about the prices, DH and I both looked into a vow renewal for our 10th anniversary (We were both checking around and didn't know it.) and it was just too expensive. It is hard to justify when you can use the money in sooo many other ways at WDW!
Now, I'm already obsessing about my girls' weddings. They don't stand a chance - they are gonna hate me! I told DH I'll have to work like four jobs in order to pay for their WDW weddings! I already have envisioned a Mad Tea Party bridesmaid luncheon, complete with the hat cake and the Mad Hatter on hand. :faint:
I wish they did the Disney weddings when we got married... DH did propose to me at Cindy's castle and we did go to Disneyland Paris for our honeymoon so I guess I can't complain too much.
I was gonna mention mousesavers. I saw that the other day, too.
Have an awesome trip! Congrats! :woohoo:

Awww. I think this sounds like a great idea. Nothing to me is as romantic as OKW, my beloved. Who knows, we might just be at OKW with ya'! I like the idea of staying at OKW, then spending some mooolaaaa for some bling at WoD!
Let me be the first to wish you Happy Anniversary! :goodvibes

Well, just thought I would give a minor update. Ran some figures, and about fainted, wait, did faint when I calculated how much it would cost a week at the Grand Floridian. I did run the Royal Palm Club cost, and........
drum roll please.......
Almost $7000! For 7 nights! I then ran just a MK view, and it was over $4,000. I tossed and turned about it for 3 nights, and Mr Roz and I came to a decision.
Move over Simba's Mom, OKW here we come! It's our favorite resort, and frankly it seemed kinda strange to spend so much when we can stay in a Villa for "free" hehehehhe.
We'll still be doing a Wishes Cruise, and our dinner at V&A. We're taking lllovel's suggestion and will be writing our own vows, and having our own Rozified ceremony. :beatinghe
And from Simba's Mom, we loved the idea of sharing a big Kitchen Sink.
Thanks for all the great suggestions!
Whew! Didn't want to say anything, but I had a honeymoon at the GF...with the first Mr. Nono....not the Mr. Nono you know!
I'd take OKW too!:clappingh

Last year we spent our silver anniv on a Adventures by Disney trip to Wyoming. Since this was the premier year for ABD it was full of added features and surprises. I think they were trying a lot of things out to see if they worked. Disney definitley lost money on this trip for the first go around. (a very rare event for Disney indeed!) This ABD trip was quite a different departure for Disney. I'm sure most of you have seen the new offers coming out this year for DVC members to go on these ABD trips. If any of you want to know what it was like, just let me know.:drillserg

Rozzie - that sounds like a wonderful plan. Do some very special things...but stay where you two feel the most comfortable and are truly happy :) Chances are good that you would miss OKW anyway - and paying several thousand dollars would start to chafe if you wanted to be at the Gurgling Suitcase instead!!!
What a fun thing you two are doing :) I still haven't tried a kitchen sink :bugeyed: Maybe Mr. Love and I will do that for our 15th in a couple of years. Of course, when we were on our little weekend get away at Calloway Gardens for our 10th (far enough away from the kids, but close enough and nice with lots of activities :) was great!) we decided to try for little PJ. Took us a few month, but see what happens when we get away from the kids for a little bit - - - not that there was any :ale: in on that decision. ;) lol
MickeysFriend - we are ALWAYS interested in hearing about trips....especially those in the collections for DVC. I think we all want to know that it is worth it before giving up some WDW time :) So....do tell! :listen:

Go for the honeymoon that you never had! Definitely do V & A.
And as for a quiet place for a vow renewal, just the two of you...walk over to the wedding chapel just before Wishes. Go out front to the arch and say your vows there! Now I wouldn't recommend 'sealing the deal' like we did years ago when the grounds of the wedding pavillion were just a beach, BUT I can't imagine anything more romantic. Pop a cork on a bottle of champagne and voila! A Disney vow renewal for 0 bucks!
And if you ask really nice, and of course pay my airfare, I might just get one of those day licenses to perform marriage ceremony (online-$50 bucks) and take photos at the same time! HA! a two-fer.
Seriously, I always used to go over to the wedding pavillion and check it out and have pics of X and I on our twentieth (sp?) at the arch. (ya gotta find a way to balance the camera on something so that you can get a pic of the both of you...but its doable!)

AS wonderful as Disney Weddings and Vow renewals are, they are expensive to begin with not to mention how expensive you can make them.
I love your plans and it'll be so romantic having vows to exchange :beatinghe

Sounds like it all worked out. I really want to do a vow renewal for hubby and I on our 10 year. We want to stay at the Poly because we honeymooned in Hawaii so it will be kind of like that.
I guess I will have to play around with the prices, or get a second job. :headscrat
We wanted to honeymoon at Disney but at the time our bank (for signing up) offered free airline tickets to Hawaii with the purchase of hotel. So we did that instead. Saved for about a year and a half to pay for everything and not go into debt for it. We didn't take vacations, but used our vacation pay towards the wedding. Ah the fun days of being poor.

I haven't looked at prices since 2000 when my daughter got married at WDW. Beautiful wedding at Sunset Point at the Polynesian followed by a surf and turf reception at same. The package included a spa treatment, manicure and pedicure at GFRS for the bride, bridesmaids and moms of B & G. We were then limo driven to the Polynesian where a large area was reserved for the "hairdressers to the stars" to style our hair. We were also served a buffet of salads, fruit, and sandwiches. This was also our dressing area. After the reception we boarded boats, were given a tour of the lake, and then viewed the fireworks at MK. Their design your own package also included a nights stay at the Poly, a string quartet during the ceremony and at the reception, but no Disney characters. There were about 30 people who attended and it was all done for under $15000.00.
So, all of this being said I thought it would be great to renew our vows at WDW. Nothing elaborate, but very magical. Our children and their families would join us because there is nothing we like better than sharing our love for Disney with our kids and grandkids. My husband would say he doesn't need to renew his vows so we will of course simply continue to go to OKW with our family or by ourselves and we will always have the beautiful memories of our daughter and son-in-law's magical wedding.

to simbas mom: If I were to be in disney world again, (i was there for my 25th) I would bring a beautiful dress, and my husband a nice suit. I have heard (because I have not eaten there) that The Grand Floridian at Victorias and Alberts is spectacular. It is about $200 per person which I believe would be cheaper than a disney wedding. I spoke to someone who sat at the chefs table and had a 12 course dinner. It sounded absolutely lovely. It would be lovely for an anniversary. I have never done it because we go with our daughter and $600 to eat is a little more than we could spend and we definitely would not eat $600 worth of food that is almost for a week. If you can afford it that is what I would do. If you can't, the Grand Floridian has Narcooses. I went there for my birthday this past may. When the sun goes down it is really quite lovely inside. The menu came with my name at the top wishing me a happy birthday. We got Filet and Lobster and at the end of the meal they brought a delicious almond cheescake looked like a cupcake with a candle to wish me happy birthday. The service was great and it really made the birthday special. Then you go over to the magic Kingdom later, after changing and watch the wishes fireworks. The end of a perfect day. What do you think? Oh by the way Happy Happy Anniversary.

We are going to get our marriage license tomorrow. We'd love a Disney wedding, but can't afford it. But the honeymoon is at VWL.
