Hi all! I just found out about this site from mousesavers.com. After reading through that site I was telling my husband that I wish there was a site like that for DVC members and then I did a search and found this site! It's great to have people to share advice and tips with.

We joined in April 2005 after going to a timeshare appointment at the Wyndham resorts just because they were giving out $100 to go. We never thought of buying a timeshare before, but after going, we were interested. We didn't like the idea of having to buy that day, so we took our $100 and ran. Good thing we did! I have been going to WDW every spring break for 8 years and never noticed the "secret" kiosks at downtown disney until the Wyndham incident. We wanted the free fastpasses Disney was passing out to go, so we went. What a great program! I love the points. It makes planning exciting and challenging. I always try to get the most nights with my points.

We have been wanting to try a cruise so we just booked the 3 night cruise on Jan 4th. It worked out for our Christmas vacation time and was the best time for the least amount of points! I am so excited! I found great infromation and tips at mousesavers.com and I like the idea I read here about renting my points out next time and booking my own cruise with cash for a better value. Renting a car to get to the port instead of using Disney buses was also a money saving tip. Instead of paying the $180 for the price of 3 to use the bus service, we are renting a car for $84. I never would have thought about that on my own.

I am so excited to find this site. I am looking forward to more great advice and tips from all of you. Thanks!

Kim from Chicago.

Welcome to Mouseowners, Kim! :welcome:

It sounds like you're already pretty productive with your points. We look forward to hearing your Trip Reports or vacation stories. Personally, I wonder how much longer before add-on-itis sets in!!

If this is your first cruise, I think you'll love. We sailed on the Magic last May and it was a tremendously good experience. The car rental is the way to go - we used Disney transport. While it gave us a leisurely morning at SSR before departure, I really would have like to leave 1-2 hours before we actually did. Since our cruise was 7 days, though, I didn't want to deal with dropping the car off, taking a shuttle, and going through the whole thing again upon our return. (We did our cruise sandwiched between two DVC stays).

Cash is definitely the best way to pay for a cruise - but hey, if you have the pionts go for it! We shot our excess points on a Disneyland Hotel stay this June when renting out probably would have covered the price for less points. Oh well. We've got 48 years to get the hang of this.

Enjoy your time here!

Dirk
