how upset I was when I saw our school's proposed calender for next year. I have our DVC points planned out for several years and today I discovered our spring break will hit at Easter next school year so we would need more points to cover the peak season and to be honest I don't think I would even want us to go during that busy week! Now we'll have to go either at winter break (And I was planning on BCV!) or during the hot summer. :crymeariv Not to mention how I had our points planned out to perfection.
Is it too cold to swim at VB the first week of April? Maybe we could do that instead... I really hate for the kids to be stuck home spring break while everyone else is away.

I have not looked at the point charts but instead of staying at BCV during easter you can stay at OKW and pay cash at port orleans or one of those resorts for fri & sat. just a suggestion. if your planning on going to the parks go early wdw usually closes them by 10am.

Wouldn't VB be peak season in April also? Not sure what size room you're looking at for that, of course.
I can relate to how school calendars muck up plans, though. My friend had her family all booked for a trip to WDW during Turkey Week this year, and then the schools decided NOT to give us that whole week off. She ended up rebooking (and taking advantage of that free dining pkg) but she did it at the expense of then taking her kids OUT of school, which she didn't want to do in the first place. I know lots of folks do this (i.e., take kids out of school), but personally, my kids don't like having to do all the work either in advance or when they return. They hate to be out for a sick day - much less a week on vacation! It's hard enough to recover from the post-vacation blues, LOL!
FWIW - summer ain't as bad as some make it out to be. We've done AUgust now for several trips, and yep, it's hot... but you can guarantee we'll enjoy those pools and water parks! Our only fear factor now with that month is hurricanes... we experienced Charley and don't care to do that again, but it seems like lately you're just rolling dice with a summer visit (esp. late summer) to anywhere south-coastal!
Good luck sorting out your points... maybe you'll arrive at an even better set of plans!

Shan, I don't know when your school starts up after summer break, but if it is after LAbor Day, the last week of August isn't bad for crowds, and only Labor Day weekend is a bit crowded. The worst thing is all the rain and yes, maybe hurricanes, you can get. We have been there twice during the last week of August/ first week of September, and the crowds are pretty good.

Holy cow. Parks all closing by 10AM?!? I think we'll skip it next school year...
I won't take my kids out of school. For one, my oldest has some LD issues and two, our county is very strict about unexcused absences - they'll take you to court!
We go back early August so that is out.
I do have a few options, but it wrecks all my points I have so carefully planned out.
We have a weird winter break - out whole first week of January. Could be nice, but probably no swimming in SAB. :crymeariv Course, it is low season - less points and we could get another AP for this year's spring break and it would cover winter break, too. :scratchch (Hey, is there still the DDE card DVC deal?)
We could also go first week of June since the kids will be out for summer and get a tad of a jump on summer crowds... We've done this many times.
Stay home spring break? Bummer. Maybe go for a few nights to either VB or HH if I can get the ressies at seven months out???

Shan, if you have the first week of January off, I'd definitely do that! That is my second most favorite time to visit WDW! You probably wont be able to swim EVERY day, but you will probably get some swimming weather in. We often are there at that time, and it can be anywhere from 40's to 90's, but it is usually in the 70's, and I call that perfect!

Ya, I think I'll run this by DH. Looks like early January 2007!

I second that. January is great. We've been more hit or miss for swimming weather, and you do have to bring clothes for every eventuality, unless you want to buy lots of sweatshirts if it's cold, but there is no one there, and it feels so relaxed. And for us, the weather is still a far sight better than what we would have at home.

I know I'm being repetitious, but Shan did say the schools can take her to court for unexcused absences and that is true for Alabama also. It simply is not worth it :hammer: :faint:
I understand your frustration, Shan!!! I also wish the school district would put out two years at a time like our DVC point books :) AND they shouldn't be allowed to make arbitrary changes to calendars already set! We lost an extra day of Christmas vaca this year that way

Funny, my house has been a little turned upside down this past week, but last night I sat down for a few to just take a look at our options. I start talking to DH in the other room about maybe going to HH for a few nights during spring break just so the kids can get away. He was like - I thought we were going to WDW and you'd already booked all our meals? I said - I'm talking HH for spring break 2007, not spring break 2006. I could actually hear his eyes roll. He doesn't even get it! :dunce:

lenshanem i can totally relate to you, :upsidedow I dont think DH can look beyond 3 months, LOL. But i have learned my lesson to just plan it, book it, when im 6 months to a year out then slowly break DH in on the plans.
I also learned to plan the vacation for every that the kids are off of school.
this vacation we leave on dec,29 . DH keeps asking why we are not leaving christmas eve :headscrat :headbrick
