Ok, so we are due to leave for all things Floridian VERY soon... I JUST got Dd past her ear infection, and DS11 past his throat / ear infection. DH went to dr. about his back (he still hobbles a bit - not good) but they found nothing on the xray, so I am certain that (a) he thinks that means nothing is wrong and (b) you can expect him to be riding the RnR 53 times per day, depsite any and all warnings.

So today - a NICE, day, a BEAUTIFUL day - DH and I leave work at noon to take DS (middle kiddoo) his older bro and younger sis, and three of his best buds to a local water park as his belated b'day party. Except one kid said he could only come to the water park, a bit late, and not spend the night, because his family also had other plans. Fair enough. So we do the water park, then we leave there, get pizza - all was good - went to take the one kid home who couldn't spend the night... and the kids all got out of the van to check out something he wanted to "show them really quick" in his backyard. Some sort of fort that he built. Well - next thing we know, kids are screaming - one kid runs up front to me, clutching his foot and knee, and says, "We just stumbled into a yellow jacket nest... I think Caroline is getting the worst of it." Caroline, our 6 yr old dd, was INDEED getting the worst of it. I scrambled out back and scooped her up as she was screaming and flailing, and then set her down in the front yard to assess her - well, there were still yellow jackets on her! I yanked off her shirt and shorts (she still had her bathing suit on underneath) and took her in the house - (they later found 2 more jackets still inside her shirt!) I counted no less than 11 bites. SOme were multiple bites, too - so no telling the actual count. Just incredible. Of the other kids, only 2 of them got stung - one kid twice, the other just once - out of 6 kids in the immedaite vicinity. We gave Caroline Benadryl and Motrin, gave her a popsicle (they got her upper lip REALLY badly!), gave her a tepid bath, dressed her and then put ice on the worst places... ugh, just simply horrific. THankfully, she didn't have any other repercussions (i.e. allergic reaction), but she is one uncomfy camper tonight. He finger on one hand is swollen fat, she has a very painful calf with about 4 large chomps on it, a lip that rivals the worst silicone injection job ever, and a very bumpy bicep. Poor little lambone. She's been asleep for a bit now, while the boys are all chuggin along downstairs (and will be well past the midnight hour.)

So I guess, if we can get all our medical woes out on the table BEFORE we leave, can we hope that nothing like that will happen while we are at Disney? :veryconfu

Poor little baby! I sure hope you are right, Gopher!!!!!! She probably caught their attention more because of the blond hair. I know they go for bright stuff.

I am trying to think...should you put a wet teabag on the bites to help today?:headscrat

Oh no! Poor girl! I really hope she recovers quickly. What a scary moment for her and you. On the up side, it's a good thing no one had any allergic reactions. Would an oatmeal bath help or is that one of those things just for poison ivy? Hope she feels back to herself really soon!

Sending MAJOR pixie dust your way for an illness/injury free vacation!!! :dust :dust :dust :dust :dust :dust :dust

Oh those hurt so bad! Poor thing! If the swelling doesn't go down, you may want to consider taking her for a benadryl shot. The shot hurts - but will really help and heal her up faster for your trip.
I agree - you should now have a medically perfect trip!

Oh my goodness gracious, Gopher. Bless her little heart. I hope she is feeling better. I do understand that these bites end up being really itchy. I can also suggest the Aveeno bath soaks for the itching. I would have just freaked out had I found my little one being bitten like you did. I am hoping it is smooth sailing for your family from now until the end of your WDW trip.

OH MY GOD...goph, that was terrible fierce awful!

I am so sorry for brave DD! I can't handle even one darn bite and your baby has 11 of them.....I am just flabbergasted.

Thank God there was no allergic reaction, but still....poor thing. Tea bags do seem to help and of course popsicles are the world;s second best cure . (Dole whips are the number one cure).

Give her a big hug from all of us at MO and please tell that we think she is one brave BOARDWALK BABE!!!!

THanks, folks, for the well-wishes for dd. She lots a LOT better today than yesterday - he lip is looking less "silicone hollywood", more normal today, and her leg, while itchy, at least isn't swollen and hot as it was yesterday. I notice at night she still scrathes, though, so we still give her benadryl (either oral or the topical stuff to help her sleep and not scratch it so much!) The other kids are all doing fine as well. Really the WORST repercussion in all this: dd now is direly afraid of flying critters - especially flies/wasps/hornets' yellow jackets. TOld me she doesn't know HOW she can go outside since they are "waiting for her". Poor thing... she will have to summon her courage and give it a try. I asked her when the last time was that she got stung, she said, puzzled, Why, NEver Mommy! That was the first time!" I said, "Ah-ha, then - you went 6 years without so much as a single sting, why do you suppose you would suddenly be their target ANYWHERE you go now?

She saw a BIT of the logic in that, and did go outside - BRIEFLY - tonight, but by-and-large, she stayed indoors. I guess that's not an altogether BAD thing - err on the side of caution til you're healed - so long as it doesn't become habit / obsession. And so long as she can set her fears aside for our Disney trip coming soon, LOL! Gotta get those programs lined us now!

Thanks again for your well-wishes and please keep some pixie dust in circulation for us while we're gone - hopefully we won't need it, but like traveler's checks, it's good to have on hand!

Perhaps you could remind her that Pooh-bear has been stung alot, but never lets that keep him from getting what he wants. ;)

Poor thing. I vividly remeber beign stung by a wasp at about 5. It was rather tamatic, and that was only one. Hugs to her for all she's been through. Poor little thing.

EAT: :dust :dust :dust I relaly hope you did not jinx yourself! Hope this is the last of your medical trama for a VERY long time!
