Question for you smarty pants craft people

I was doing an online search for mexican paper flowers and found the instructions in several places. However, I just can't get it right. I used to be able to practically do this in my sleep and just can't do it right anymore.
Any tips on regaining my former glory?

I haven't made those flowers since I was probably 8 years old. I don't have any tips for you. Maybe search some more and find a different set of directions? Or practice, practice, practice. LOL :)

Yay! I have it pretty much figured out!!!

The way I was taught to make them is VERY different from the traditional method. So, I was having a major mental conflict between the instructions my friend gave me and what I was reading online. I'm not quite as super fantastic as I was before but, it's going pretty good.
