Being raised down south, hockey was not a sport I had ever even watched until the 1980 Olympics. Then I married a Philly-born/bred fan, and after watching a few games, told my DH that hockey players had to be the most UNDERPAID professionals (relative to other sports) I had ever seen! It didn't help either that hockey (like soccer) can be so frustratingly fruitless to watch - when you're used to high scores like basketball (and football, even), a 2-1 score at the end of a long grueling game seems like somehow, nothing happened.

Obviously these players could tell ya otherwise.

Yep but most if not all hockey players would rather play to a 2-1 score than have a blowout I loved the comments about Brent Gilchrist getting shots in the groin just so he could get out there and play until the muscle finally tore away from the bone and he could no longer go out there and skate hockey players will play with any number of injuries just to compete it is how they are bred especially the Canadian and American guys.
