I'm testing out a poll, but wanted to know how many of you think the AP discount is going to hang around.

Any perk is a good perk....whether I use it or not....
BTW, plan to use it....more of an excuse to make additional trips... :D

I'm hoping that this is what DVC/WDW was banking on when they offered this. Anytime you fill a room, and can get someone into a park (or out to eat-hence the DDE deal for AP's) the company makes money! I'm definately hoping this will be a long term sucess for members/AP holders and the company!

I think they should keep it. That way you don't feel like you are wasting a day in the park if you just wanted to go in for dinner or something. You can not worry about that and take more trips. Also you don't have to plan so much and not buy more days then you need "just in case"

I think this first year has been a "test" run to see what percentage of members would take advantage of it. I think it will be continued if there is a good percentage of participation to show that DVC members ARE continuing to use the parks on their trips by getting a discount on APs. I sure hope it continues, but even if it doesn't, we will still continue to buy APs just as we have in the past.

I just got off the phone with my guide, and she said that the AP perk has been a huge success, and she would be shocked if it was discontinued. She also said that if they ever did discontinue it, Disney expected the DVCer's to picket down Main Street.

Breakout your placards and megaphones, girlie!
Mine is going to read, "Free air travel, food, and tickets for life for those who read Mouseowners.com! And a massage too!"
I think it makes a lot of sense for them to continue giving this discount ...... but don't tell Doctor P that I said that :Paranoid:

It makes no difference to our family as we don't buy AP's. We tend to go the same 2 weeks every year and just buy the new 10 day MYW tickets and use 5 days a trip.

MUST you go the same two weeks? Would it be possible to shift it by two weeks either side. It really is a big savings if you can do that. I do understand that some folks must take their vacations the same two weeks due to company shut down etc.

We always go the first 2 weeks of Dec with this May being the acception as I had a knee operation and was still on crutches in Dec. We love the first couple weeks of Dec and can't imagine ever changing that even with taking the kids out of school for the 2 weeks. May was way to hot for me and we love the decorations at christmas time.

Our schools would have a field day if I tried to take my kids out for two weeks for vacation :faint: They sent a letter to me two years ago near the end of the school year to let me know that parents could go to jail for truancy if their children miss too many days of school. I have to say, I was incensed  , because DS13 (11 at the time) had strep twice and sinus infection twice, missed 5 days in all, and I had sent doctors notes and notes from me. All absences were excused...
Anyway, two weeks would never fly in Alabama  Rant over :)

I called the front office and ranted at them a bit back then. Asked why did I receive this letter when if his file was opened and actually looked at, they would never have sent it. They had no explanation, so I just told them it offended me. Oh well...

Wow that is crazy we get the same comments every year and that is can we come with you. Never an issue and even if it was to bad for them we do after all pay their salary as taxpayers LOL.

I'm proof that the discount is a good idea. Based on how much I'll be going in the next year, I would not have purchased the pass at the regular price because it wouldn't have been worth it, but I did purchase the discounted pass. I'll be breaking it in in February.

We'll need to buy either the AP's or more MYW's to cover our next 3 trips (within a year's time).
I'm a champion for the MYW Dining Option, but looks like I might have to settle for the DDE w/AP.
Just sitting tight, waiting to hear what type of discount I'll receive for trading in old PH's or MYW tix...WDW is sooooooo slow on answering ticketing questions (I've been waiting nearly a month now). Hope to have an answer before we get to the gate in December. :crowded:

Depends.
Disney will track DVC AP purchases. They will then track EVERY dollar we spend, how many turnstiles we hit and how often we visit. They'll jam all this info the MegaROI calculator and if our spending is up - up to at least the point of covering the discount - then they'll be motivated to continue the discount.
Bigger picture: Disney/DVC never "gives" us anything because they like us. It always revolves around a business decision that hopefully will increase profits. This is not a bad thing as long as we feel we are also benifitting from the discount, (example; without the 50% AP discount for mini golf, I probably would not play it. With discount, it's a great value & fun for me and Disney still got some of my money.Win-Win ). The only way to get a discount from Disney is to show them they are not getting our money. One way to do this is to simply use cash in the parks. We get what we want/need , but for all Disney knows we're spending off property. To keep something like the DVC AP discount, we need to demonstrate to Disney that it's profitable to do so. So my advice would be to use room charge or CC. Let them KNOW we are spending.

For the forseeable future (i.e. while they have resorts to sell) its a good selling technique. I think most new purchasers expect some sort of park ticket discount - we certainly did and were a little disappointed with the 10% LOS (though it did work for us). An AP discount is a good DVC selling technique because it pushes people towards more points....a MYW pass discount works if you are only spending a few days.

We go for 2 weeks but only 2 5 park days and 2 waterpark days so teh MYW 10 day non expiry ticket is our best option especially since we never usualy change teh time of year we go.
I think they need to do it for at least two years, probably three before they can accurately evaluate it.

While I love the discount and plan on buying a few more vouchers in December to lock in the low rate, I think that like everything, this is a limited time. I give it to the end of 2006....

I had not thought about buying vouchers for future years. Is there any expiration date or language about that on them?

I don't think so - the DL ones always had a 'use by' date ie you could buy a voucher in anticipation of a future price increase, but they stipulated that they had to be turned in no more than xxx days after purchase.
The WDW ones that I purchased in the past in anticipation of price increase did NOT have a date stipulation.
I plan to buy at least one if not more in December 05, to head off any price increase in January...

Yes, we'd thought about doing this as well, and I'm pretty positive the vouchers have no kind of expiration on them.

I dont want to be a downer but i believe dvc wont cont. the annual pass discount because they will sya we have much better offers and discounts to offer our DVC Members.
i have been holding out but may break down right before the end of the year.

I have used the "buy before the price increase" strategy before (pre-DVC discount), and there was never an expiration on them.
Are the sales people using the discounted APs in their spiel? If so, and if there has been a significant number of new members buying them, I think it will continue, at least through the SSR sales period. When the next new DVC comes, it might include a DIFFERENT perk.

I think this discount will be around for some time to come - they need to get the DVC points owners in the parks and in the parks often to increase their economic revenue per DVC owner (food, trinkets, ticket revenue, photos etc....)
cheers

I don't think it will go away by the end of this year but I don't see it lasting much past next year to be honest. The new rules etc regarding AP rates and the new booking regulations etc I see all of AP sales dropping.

If they lower the economic value of an AP, I see that as a reaosn to keep the discounts around :sherlock:

I was wondering about the AP myself. We hadn't planned on getting another one this soon, but given the new school calendar out for next school year I think we're skipping our original plans and going again twice within a year. Sooo, looks like an AP will be the way. I was hoping the DVC deal would still be available after I get tax money back. :) This will cover us for spring break and then again for next New Year's.
So the DDE deal is still available, too?

I hope so, and to be truthful, we would spend less days in the Parks if we didn't have APs.

This discount is awesome for the AP. We'll continue to renew ours with the discount as long as they make it available and probably end up spending more time in WDW as a result!
