View Full Version : So who's doing what F&W....

I am thinking
* Book & Bottle on Nov 9 with the Backstreet Kitchen lady. (does the "opportunity" to come home with autographed book mean you still gotta pay for book I wonder?)
*Signature Dinner at Calif Grill/Soarin over California
*Maybe a $40 wine pairing?? Wonder how much food you get with that?
The prices are depressing me. I am thinking of still going all out and doing 3events, and canceling some Table Service's that may or may not be great to make up difference.
So, whatcha thinkin about?! :howudoin:

I just looked at the schedule again. Is it me or is there a lot of TBD? I'm not trying to be negative, but seems like something on this large of a scale would have people begging to participate. Guess that's not the case?
Rozzie, I don't know what we are going. Not PFTS. :(
Half of our days are TBD as to who will do what. I like the idea of the Food Network thing, but that depends on who is there. We will probably end up sticking to free things (INBEV beer thing) and the booths.

I know Ginger. Lots of TBA. I don't like booking the TBA's.
I think of dropping the $40 thing and sticking to the Soarin' over Cali thing and the Book & Bottle. (I will cancel a Calf Grill ADR and a Brown Derby ADR to make up some of the cost) The booths can get $$ too.
Man, I might need some overtime to pay for this trip! :scary:

We're only doing PoTS on 9/30. We have other ADRs and events planned, plus you can eat your way around the showcase. Last year, we spent 11 days there and did more events. But I don't want my entire schedule to revolve around F&W. Not enough free time. And yes, the expense of some of the events makes me less likely to want to do F&W stuff.
Now, I've gotta say that the $40 food and wine pairing that we did at the Living Seas last year was *awesome*. Slightly bigger than tasting-size portions of three different meals; they were almost like "mini-meals," complete with side dishes. We were *stuffed* when we got out of there! So, IMO, that's a good bang for your buck.

If it was Mr Rozzie and I, I would most likely scimp out on the F&W events, I love all the booths. (esp the sam adams tent!) But I am taking Mom, and this is all she talks about, all the different events. ($$$) I think I might have to set some ground rules with her wishes, and put a price cap on our eating. She still wants V&A for her birthday night too. :teacher:
Thanks for the insight on the $40 dollar thingy. Maybe I will do that one and drop one of my big ticket items.
I agree about the free time. It is so hard to choose between it all.

I'm just plain disgusted with Disney.
They are pricing the F&W beyond the means of the common family. Are they trying to turn F&W into an elitist event only the well heeled guest can afford and appriciate ? Or is it simply greed.
Two adults to PFTS is approx $270.00. What does an evening at V & A run ? $300.00 ?

Maybe Disney is trying to keep up with the South Beach Food and Wine Fest. :idontgeti

We're not doing any of the private events. We booked the Dining Plan (Our first time using it.) and we're planning on saving our snack credits for the booths around the WS, otherwise I'm mostly looking forward to MNSSHP and our Segway tour! :bouncingp

We aren't doing any of the private events either. It is my first F & W and I'd rather just do it casually than stick to a schedule for it. Wander lazily from country to country! Plus, I didn't want to reserve too much being Scott's 1st ever trip, it's going to be more of a commando trip than my last few have been.
And those prices, yikes!

Although I hate to ruin my rep as a BW Babe, truth be told I don't care much for alcohol. So doing any of the events that include drinking would be a total waste for me. And since almost all of the things you have to pay for at F&W include (naturally!) wine, I won't be doing any of those things.
So I'll eat around the world, but other than that I won't be doing much else F&W wise. About the only "extra" I can think of is free, the food demos in the big builiding near MouseGears (the name escapes me at the moment).
But I am looking forward to my first MNSSHP and to the Grand Gatherings Pirates/Wishes cruise with my family and my DVC friends. And oh yeah, LOTS of Off Kilter shows! http://adisneyworld.disney.go.com/media/wdw/images2003/nonlanguagespecific/parks/epcot/entertainment/offkilter/Off_Kilter.jpg

Talking with Mrs The Viking last night, doesn't look like we're doing PFTS. For that same $270.00 we could do MNSSHP, Hayride over at FW and either boat time on Bay Lake or the Trail Ride at FW.
We'll still hit the free wino seminars & eat our way around World at least once or twice.

Maybe if I was more into cooking or drinking, I would be interested. But I agree, those prices are a bit steep.

I'm with you there, sister. Did enough in college but that is long over........did I ever tell you about my beer sliding at the Treehouse at PSU story???

update on me:
we are only doing 1 event, and scaling back on some ADRs. I put my foot down, no one should ever have to spend that much on food!! Yikes!
Besides, my favorite event from last year was the free Sam Adam seminar.

I'm not trying to be rude, but are you serious? And if so why?
When we went all we got were "shots" of HOT SA beer and had to sit there for 15 minutes before we could drink it.
Now the INBEV beer thing is great! Love those tables for 2. :ale: :ale:
Are there free wine tastings like there are beer? Last year was my first time and I don't remember seeing any.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but we went to the very first one offered, I think it was 1130, just us and a table of retirees. Our beer was not ice cold, but not hot, and tasted really fresh. I never really been to a beer school before, and I enjoyed learning why the hops taste different.
Now the second time around would probably not be as fun or enlightening. The beer thing at the Rose & Crown we missed, as they were not taking any more people. But that is on our list. What time did you get there to get in??
Does anyone know of free wine tastings? Like the beer?.......

We had a good experience with the SA seminar. Our beer also was ice cold. Only one problem.... getting the taste of that sicky sweet Christmas beer out of my mouth.

Viking, if you decide to do MNSSHP the night of the 16th, you can get the DVC pre-sale discount, and the tickets come out to about $35.00, little more or less, don't remember. I just remember that the discount saved me the cost of about one ticket, since I bought four tickets.

They have a schedule. If I'm remembering correctly let's say they are doing them at 9am, 11am, 1:30pm, and 3pm. For the 9 you just show up early. But about 9:30 or 10 they give out ticket for the 11am. A nice little old man was the ticket giver every time. He gives out tickets until they are gone (since there is only a certain number of seats). Then for the 11am you show up about 10:30-10:45 to get at the front of the line. There are some tables for 2 and some for 4. You want a table for 2. Each table has a bucket of 4 beers with lots of ice. Each table has an opener, cups and napkins. So if you get a table for 2, only 2 people share 4 beers. So more FREE beer. :) The INBEV rep tells about each beer and you drink it when she says. If you don't finish all the beer you can pour it in a cup and take it with you. Or sit there for a few minutes to relax and drink it. I thought this was an interesting presentation even after I had heard it quite a few times. :)
If you miss out on tickets, the nice man will tell you when the next give away is. Usually a little after the current one starts.
HTH get you some good free beer.* Now to find us some free wine. :)
*I really don't care for SA beer.

I think this is a major anniversary (300 years maybe) for Twinging's Tea. I wonder if they will do anything special? The free tea demo is fun, if you like tea.

Well, Mar, I guess my reputation's on the line, too, cuz the most I drink will be 1, maybe two, glasses of reisling wine. That's it! But there are more prerequisites to being a Boardwalk Babe, like singing your head off at Jellyrolls!

We are biting the bullet and going to Party For the Senses.
At my age, the rule is to try most everything once!
Even tho I don't drink beer much anymore, the idea of sitting at Rose and Crown and drinking ice cold ones sounds very refreshing! What brand of beer is it?
jiggerj...looks like I will need to have you as my partner in crime for this one! (since those other babes don't drink...or so they say!)
I love wine seminars and tastings. Will have to keep my eyes open for a schedule.
Tried to do the tea seminars last year but they were always full. I think it will be fun to do it this time (I should think BEFORE the beer!)

I got tickets for the PFTS on the 14th for DH and I. We'll probably have to take a taxi back to Cypress Pointe since we don't move to BCV until the next morning, and I do plan to enjoy the wine at the event.:margarita I put the margarita smiley in because it looks more like a wine glass to me. LOL
