A group of us were treated to a screening of Chicken Little late this morning.

I'm no 'critic', but I'd recommend it. It's funny, well written and really quite cute! I really enjoyed it! Frankly, it maynot be a $300 Million box office hit, but it's a respectable Disney production. Give it a try! :)

:faint: Thanks for the tip! Trailers didn't thrill me, but maybe I'll give it a whirl now. Let's see, I think I'll have another movie op Dec. 3.

It looks really cute, but how long is it? I would love to take my 14 month old, but I have never taken him to the movies before and I don't know how he would do.

I have forgotten the exact runtime, but it's about 1 1/2 hours.

I can't offer you much advice about taking a 14 month old, my guess would be that the motion and generally none threatening nature of most of the character might hold his attention -- even without the 3D glasses :)

Glad to hear that you liked it because every review I've seen so far has been less than good. I've read that Disney needs to reach the $20 million mark for the weekend. It will be interesting to see what happens.

We took our son to see it tonight and really enjoyed ourselves. I'm really at a loss to explain the venom from some of the reviews out there. AO Scott from the NY Times called it "a terrible movie." I just don't get that.

Technologically, it was a slam dunk. Any questions about whether Disney has the technical ability to match Pixar and other CGI studios is gone. I thought the directing was good, too.

The weakest aspect is the story. It was good but not great. The comparison I kept going back to was the original Toy Story. TS was unlike anything we had seen before, but I felt the script was lacking.

I HOPE the film does well and would encourage folks to see it. I don't know how this will figure into the Pixar negotiations, but I certainly hope Disney will continue to produce their own animated features. It would be sad to see them give up the farm to re-sign with Pixar and then shutter their own animation division (again!)

While this film may not make upward of $200 mil like the Pixar film have consistently, it should do well over $100 mil. Add to that the international revenues, and I'm sure they will turn a tidy profit. You don't need to hit a home run every time up to the plate. It's inevitable that a Pixar film will "miss" with the public--hopefully Disney won't pay the price by putting all of their eggs in that one basket.

Chip-- it may, or maynot be. It depends on the theatre you go to. Special equipment is required that not all theatre's have. Hopefully you have a theatre nearby that can project in "Disney Digital 3D". Make no mistake however, this technology is not the "3D" ala what you're used to. The glasses are much better to boot! :)

I've read that the film is "tracking" (movie-speak for studio predictions, which are usually surprisingly accurate) in the $35-38 mil range. Not bad, but not close to the $70 mil that The Incredibles made a year ago.

Here's a positive review from Stephen Hunter of the Washington Post, a reviewer I greatly respect:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/03/AR2005110302429.html

Funny how the reviewers seem to be contradicting each other so frequently on this one. One says it's derivative...the next says its clever. One says it is classic Disney...another says it's too sugary sweet.

I don't think Disney will ever be regarded as the definitive leader in animation anymore...if for no other reason than the fact that there is soooooo much product in the marketplace. Dreamworks...Pixar....Sony...the list goes on. Pixar and Dreamworks want to be releasing two films per year by the end of the decade.

Twenty and thirty years ago, how many other studios were investing as much as Disney in producing big-budget animated films? None. Now, every studio wants a piece of the action.

Personally, I think CGI is already losing its cache with the public. Right now, Pixar is still untouchable because they haven't produced a subpar film. As soon as they have their first "miss", they'll fall back to the pack in the public's eyes.

I believe it is 77 minutes long.

But I would hesitate to take a 14 month old. Our son was about 27 months when he saw Finding Nemo--his first movie experience. He was OK for about 45 minutes and then started to get fidgety, not wanting to stay in his seat or pay attention to the film.

There are also some intense scenes late in the movie when aliens are attacking the town.

We went and saw this on Friday as well and I found it to be a very good movie! (actually - we just saw Sky High at the dollar movies last weekend and I thought it was really very much in the vein of the Disney movies from my childhood and enjoyed it very much too - as did my boys...ages 3 and 5 - the 3 year old wants to go see it again today)

I would recommend this movie to all of you if you like animation. I agree with TJKraz that the movie itself is amazing to look at. I didn't see it at a 3-D theater and still the images were so darn crisp and clean and looked very very real. The story is not the best, but it appealed to my boys. They cheered in all the right places, there was a lot of adult humor and I got a kick out of some of the bigger stars making cameo "appearances". Its worth the $$$ and I am sure we will see it again at the dollar movies when it hits there (probably in 3-D as our dollar theater does have 3-D technology :) )

We have a hard time taking our kids to the show we don't do theatres with the younger 2 but they love teh drive in in the summer time. I may take the 9 year old to see this and possibly her sister I think it looks pretty good I have a feeling that the next pixar movie CARS isn't going to fair to well I didn't care for the trailers I have seen unlike with past Disney/Pixar films.

The twins are going with their grandma tomorrow. I think I will try to find a theatre that is showing it in 3-D.
