 Hello everyone!! I purchased (over the phone) from Disney yesterday, which seemed painless, at SSR.

We actually looked into DVC back in 99 but backed out..... boy is hindsight 20/20!!
Our guide over the phone was very helpful & informed us that as of the 10th of July that Disney would start charging a portion of the closing fees to the buyer, is this true? I did hear about them going to do that but I did not think it was this soon. I hope my guide was not just trying to get me to hurry up & buy.

I am excited but also worried since it is a big investment (at least for us). I am almost embarrassed to admit that we go to Orlando at least two or three times a year, as my username says, we are Disneyfreaks!!!

My wife & I are going this September (without the kids) to ASMu which we booked before we bought into DVC, (free disney dining) I tried today to see if we could somehow stay in a DVC resort with paying some in cash & the rest in points to keep the free disney dining plan. It was kind of interesting, once the lady knew that I was now a DVC member, I felt like I was given the cold shoulder. I am sure you all know that there was nothing that could be done as far as my existing reservation for Sept. We may decide to stay one night before or after at one of the resorts if available.

I look forward to learning from you the pros at mouseowners.com:worship:

While DVC stated that they paid all closing costs, IMO all they did was build it into the selling price. Maybe now they are going to call a spade a spade.

Oh, BTW, Welcome to MO and DVC. Let the obsessions begin.

I agree with Viking, the cost has always been built into the price. According to this month's newsletter, they have recieved questions about closing costs and they intend to keep it the way it is. I'd also like to add a welcome to mouse owners:welcome: :welcome:

Well, I think the jury is still out on that one. The newsletter actually states:

Vacation Magic is pleased to report that Members who purchase additional Ownership Interests in Disney Vacation Club Resorts currently do not pay closing costs on those transactions, and no changes to that policy are planned at this time.

Note this specifically addresses add-on purchases by existing members, NOT new members. I really don't know why they would go down that road, though. Seems like they're surrendering part of their advantage over resale. If they want a couple hundred dollars more per contract, just raise the prices another $1 per point.

We bought over the phone also and sight unseen. We were nervous, but in a good way. We never regetted it.

Can't offer any advice here. We bought over the phone too at BCV and have never regretted it!

But I did want to say :cheerlead Welcome to MO & DVC! Glad you found us here!:cheerlead

BTW tjkraz, that's pretty interesting! Thanks for pointing that out. I read the newsletter and noticed that but for some reason I missed the part about additional ownership. Now I'm wondering what will happen with the new purchases.

I think you should be excited that you will have wonderful trips to WDW and lovely accommodations to stay in and you should be very scared about add-on-itis. We said never would we ever need to add-on, and we have done so 3 times since our original purchase in 1999. You will learn a lot here, and you have found a friendly helpful group to join.

Congratulations and Welcome Home

Welcome Home!!

Just an FYI, they will be charging closing costs to new members at around the time that they told you so they were being upfront about that.

Anything involving large sums of money makes me nervous! But we also bought sight unseen and have never regretted it!
Welcome!
