Saw POTC tonight. A client of DH's that works for McDonalds was kind enough to give us passes to see an early screening of the movie (Wednesday night).

OK, now keep in mind DH and I had VERY high expectations for the movie and...

Well, if you don't wanna know just stop here.

We were not impressed. I'm very sorry to say that, too. There were no previews for this screening and it still came in over two hours. They could have cut out alot of it. I was yawning and looking at my watch toward the end. Way too much action. Really. And the whole Davy Jones and Kracken thing paled in comparison to the curse from the first movie. (It was still fresh in our minds cause we watched it at home last night on DVD.)

The Kracken special effects were just plain awful, if not embarrassing to watch. Wait to you see the scene with the Kracken and Jack. Ouch. And by the third time I was sick of seeing the Kracken to be honest. Note that after the Kracken is attacking for the third time how the only crew left onboard is all the original crew. Funny how all the other crew they picked up along the way died. Couldn't they have stuck at least one of the new crew up there with them? (DH caught that, too...)

The sea people or whatever you want to call them looked stupid - I mean, the cursed pirates in the first movie were just sooo much cooler. Definitely better special effects on that.

Johnny Depp was funny as Captain Jack Sparrow and was yummy. (Sorry guys - had to throw that in!) Orlando looked pretty yummy, too. But, DH thought Depp's performance wasn't quite up to his in the first movie.

I'd advise watching the first movie before going to catch the references in this one if you can. The poor doggie...

It ends with a surprise! (I won't give that away!) and a total cliff hanger - it almost forces you to see the third movie when it comes out.

One cool thing was the new Disney credit opening at the start of the movie. It was Cinderella's castle at WDW and looked so awesome you just want to go there and NOW!

Sooo, in conclusion - it is OK, doesn't compare to the first and now I'm a little sad about the additions they made in the ride. I guess I'll have to wait and see, but DH agreed with me - he isn't quite as excited about seeing the new Davy Jones effect.

Bummer.

I'm hoping that I won't be disappointed in POCII...It really does have a lot of hype to live up to. I think everybody's expectations are really high.

It's hard to come up with new and BETTER special effects all the time...you're so right that the skeletal pirates would be very hard to beat. I just read on a J.DEpp interview that the 'sliming' by the Kraken was really gross for Johnny...he was afraid of breathing or eating it. I was surprised to learn that Johnny never does any stunt acting, leaving it to the professionals.

But in all, I'm glad you said that J.Depp and O.Bloom were yummy...like that eye candy! And I'll hope that i come away thinking this was a really good sequel.

I gave this movie some more thought last night. I was really hard on it, but I was really pumped when we went in and it just kinda felt like a big let down.

It is like this - the first movie had this cool and clever storyline and had just the right about of action to support the story. This second movie seemed to be less on story and just alot more action. Given that it ends in a cliff hanger I'm almost wondering if they could have combined the two and cut out those long action scenes. Might have made for a better story.

Don't get me wrong - it was decent, just not what I had built up in my mind and that scene with the Kracken and Jack was just plain bad.

I have tickets for a midnight show tonight.

And I've already heard rumors about the surprise at the end, and from what I've heard you DEFINITELY will want to see the third film.

Maybe Doug and I will watch the first movie tonight before we trek out.

Actually it was Sleeping Beauty Castle from Disneyland Paris.

Wow, I totally didn't catch that. My bad. Funny, cause I've even been to DLP! Guess I just automatically assumed it was WDW. Weird cause I know they look so different. Wonder why they put DLP's castle on there then?

I have to go the other way. I absolutely loved it. I was thoroughly entertained. I loved the special affects, loved Depp, thought the sea people were awful to look at which I think means the costumes and makeup were really good,

I too loved the new Disney beginning, my mouth fell open.

And I loved the ending - never saw that coming.

They sure did make you sit thru a lot of credits to see that last clip, didn't they?
