View Full Version : July Survivor - Paradise Island

PoohsPal

Objective:

Work out 3 times per week for at least 30 minutes each time. Do this each week and stay on the island. If not, you become an island cm. The main point of this is to get you in the habit of working out. Feeling accountable to the rest of the group is a great motivation.

Weeks:

Weeks start on Sunday and run through Saturday. This challenge starts on Sunday July 2.

Challenge:

Each week will will have a different challenge. If you incorporate this challenge and 3 work outs into your week, you will receive one immunity work out. This can be added to a bad week to help you meet your total of 3. (i.e., 1 3-work out week and challenge = 1 work out) Challenges will typically take less than 10 minutes to complete.

What Counts as Exercise?

Walking, running, jogging, wogging, dancing, moving, painting, cleaning, intense gardening... Anything that works your body!

Just because it's productive doesn't mean it's not exercise!

Immunity
Injuries and illness are automatically immunity for the week. I do not want to encourage working out on a part that's already injured or wearing yourself down additionally when you are sick.

Getting Back on the Island:
If you are a cm and want to get back on the island, you must do 4 workouts in one week, plus the challenge. This will reinstate you the following week.

Weekly Tracking:

:donald: = 1 work out
:bouncingm = 2 work outs
:bouncegoo = 3 work outs
:mickeybar = 3 work outs plus challenge
:wizard: = Island Reinstatement (4 workouts plus challenge)

Week 1 Challenge
Do a compound muscle move this week as a part of their workout. This is just a strength move that involves two or more muscles. There are many to choose from; some the main ones are pushups, pull-ups, tricep dips, supermans, lunges, squats etc... Just do that one move for 2-3 sets, maybe 5-12 reps for most choices. Pick one for the month and let’s work on seeing if we can slowly improve the number of reps per set or nmber of sets.

I'm in! Still haven't exercised since Sunday before last, but plan to do something today. I'm definitely well on the way to being well again, even if my husband doesn't believe me. Just because I'm still hacking up stuff doesn't mean I don't *feel* better!

Tuesday - 2.5 hours in pool with kids. :faint: 13 to 14 mile r/t bike ride t0 fire works, pulling teh "49 point somethinger". Yikes! (Hope you don't mind my borrowing your phrease nono)

Wednesday - Laundry. Heaps of it. Pool towes, bath towels..... (Still doesn't count)

Hoping to run 3 miles today.

Short workout today - 45 minutes. 35 on the bike and ten doing pushups! They are killer, Carrie! :blech: I did 32 boy style (keeping in mind that I can only bend my elbows down about 2 1/2 inches - I'm not nearly strong enough to do a 90 degree angle!!) and 36 girl style pushups (able to bend down around 5 inches :woohoo: )

Wow, you sure were busy, Carrie, two workouts in one day :faint:

I couldn't get over to Curves on Thursday because I was at the hospital while DH had a colonoscopy done. I did do lunges at home though. 2 sets of 10 reps per leg. I won't be able to get to Curves on Friday either because we are going to see POTC in the morning before we go to work.

Thursday night- an hour and a half of skating!

I sent someone to the hospital yesterday! :/ We collided at the rink, and she hit her head so hard on the ice they had to call the paramedics. I feel kinda bad... like maybe I made her fall worse because I sort of tried to catch her. Which I guess is dumb, but it all happened so quickly. In my defense, though... she was *insane* for trying to *speed skate* in a public session. It's insane enough with all the figure skating and hockey skaters and children who can barely stand up... she's the only person I've ever seen with speed skates at the rink.

Saturday morning- skating lesson (Adult 2)

Whoa, Kerry! I know that must have shocked you! Hopefully, she is fine and will think twice next time about speed skating during a busy session on the ice!:bugeyed:

3 mile run this morning.

Also, I'm going to claim a workout for Thursday's 4 hours of cutting and stacking firewood, only because I was way too beat to actually go for a run afterwards, and I was more sore the next two days from this than from any weightlifting I could have done.

Keep up the great work everyone.

OK, I had to check my running log for the week 'cause I forgot to report overall.

I did 3 runs....T TH & today. 1 bike ride and 1 yoga session.

I did not really pick a "move" this week...um, 'cause I didn't read this thread until now. :innocent: Unless you count holding my whole body in a slight curve and not moving a muscle as I catch the perfect wave about 5x on my boogie board. Yep, got in the water 3x this week. IT'S COLD! And today, it wasn't sunny, so no, it wasn't "refreshing." :brrrrrr:

It is pretty sad that I just now finally saw this post :o Since I am leaving for WDW tomorrow for a full week, I will not be able to keep up our island either. I hope someone else might be able to maintain it for the time being and then we can decide what we would like to do next.

I hope this does not mean that you aren't going to participate, Carrie??:veryconfu I really think we did take advantage of your goodwill having you do it for so many months!!

I did an hour on the tread today:hypnotict

I did my 30 minutes at Curves last night.

Carrie, I hope that you are saying that the thread is just too much to keep up with and that everything else is going o.k. for you. I am sure this thread is a lot of work. I know my little Where in the World pictures involve some time, too, and there are not near as many people involved.

Thanks for keeping us going these last few months. I would offer to do this, but I know I couldn't keep it up for long. Thanks again for all you did.

A suggestion. I think we could have a new thread each month. Each person do their first reply, and then edit that original reply every time they have a workout. No challenges or monitoring needed by anyone, but you would still be accountable to yourself. YOur "pat on the back" would be seeing your reply thread grow rather than a "smilie".
