* note - I hope that this is the correct place to post this, if not please move - thanks! *

As I have posted before, my love of the mouse was fueled in part by my childhood reading material from Europe.

On my recent trip to Europe, I stocked up on my old favourites. At any given time, one could purchase Mickey Maus comics (mainly Donald Duck); Donald Duck 'special edition' comics, Princess comics, Pooh activity book, Muppets activity book, and the 'Lustige Taschenbucher' - thick 200 page books with Mickey and Donald comics. There was also a Donald special edition football comic in the shape of a football for sale.

Mickey Maus and Donald Duck comics come with a 'gift' EVERY week they are released - sometimes stickers, this week was a football handheld video game, etc etc. They are only a few Euros to purchase. Mickey Maus comic book has been avaialble to purchase in Germany since about 1950.

I haven't read through all of my purchases yet, but I was very excited to reaquaint myself with the inhabitants of Entenhausen (Duckburg). Also to see that SuperGoof was still around, fueled by his magic goobers. The witch is still around, as are Daisy's nieces.

SO - DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE???? :help: I have never seen a Disney comic for sale in North America in the last ten years. I did see a Princess magazine once but other than french or german editions of what I described, no Disney comics.

Well, I am jealous now, Bavaria  because I always wonder why they don't have Disney comic books here?! I really think they are missing the boat by not having them. You sure are lucky :sunny:

Have you checked comic book stores for Disney comics? They might have them.

I actually have a few German ones from when I went in High School to Germany! My big souveniers were 2 Steiff bears(or is it Stieff?? Always get that confused!) and Disney comics. I also always wondered why they don't have them here. Every once in a while DS finds 1 at Borders but very rarely.

I went to high school in Germany, too! Junior year as an exchange student. Were you an exchange student or military brat? :)

Actually, I'm a military brat as well... that's how I ended up living in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba!

Anyway... GERMANY ROCKS!

Just asked DH and he said the local comic book store has them. So the one in your town probably does too or could order them for you. HTH.

Hate to hijack Bavaria's great thread but I did want to log in here as a military brat :D My dad was in the Air Force and we lived in Naples, Italy from the time I was ten until almost 14! It helped shape who I am :tunes: :crackedup :bugeyed:  :sunny:

 I TOTALLY agree that travel as a child is such a positive experience!

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. I'll be keeping an eye out for American versions of Mickey Mouse, and in the meantime buying Mickey Maus in German when I can find it here.

BTW, a friend gave me some copies of Mickey Mouse from his childhood in Egypt! They are just like my German ones, but of course there is a difference in language.

I was interested in the 'other' stuff in the ones I bought recently. There are letters from readers, and the kids who write in are definitely connisseurs - they discuss the various Disney comic artists at great length. There are also educational columns ie one was encouraging kids to get politically active against the seal hunt. Also a lot of features on a German trio which Disney seems to have created as a German version of the Cheetah girls.

Sorry for the confusion! I should have said I went during High School. I spent 2 summers in Germany staying with my cousin(she and her family are Germans). I got to go to school with her for about a month each time. It was supposed to help me learn German better but no one wanted to speak German to me! They all wanted to practice their English!

So here I am, after taking 7 years of German in school and taking advanced German in college (3 credits shy of having a German minor), spending summers in Germany and still can't speak it! :ROTFL: But I can understand a good amount of it and read it, just one of those people that has no aptitude for speaking other languages. It's actually pretty sad to me! :boohoohoo
