View Full Version : CRO package Airfare---whoa buddy! UPDATE!

I called yesterday for fun to see if there was any Free Dining spots left for POP in August, and ended up booking a 3 night package with airfare.

What sold me was the incredible airfare they got for me. $179 roundtrip out of Pensacola. :bugeyed: I have never even gotten hardly within $100 of that price. Out of shock I booked the package with insurance so I could ponder it for a few days to decide if I can do this.

The same flight (we always take that specific flight too) on Travelocity was $318 roundtrip. Same date and times. I actually looked when I was on the phone with CRO.

My question: are they getting discounted fares? Has anyone else had this experience with CRO airfare as in finding a better rate with them? Guess I am just in shock, as I always heard they are much higher. I guess what helps is I don't have Southwest anything to soften the blow with airfare.

Just curious. :listen:

Sooo, is this the trip you were patting yourself on the back about for using the voice of reason and staying home and saving the money? :ROTFL:
You should know that Disney trumps reason in every situation. :)

I blame it on the Nothing Thread!!!!! I held out for a couple of hours!! See, I lasted a couple of hours...

Oh, and it's CB's fault, she reminded me it is Free Dining!! :ROTFL:

Yep, CB gets blamed for a lot of things......but in fact, it's the FREE DINING that does it for everyone!
Wow, that was great airfare, Rozie. Now check to see how much you paid for your insurance, then go to insuremytrip.com, and see if you can get it cheaper. That's how I went. I felt I got better coverage and I think I paid something like $45.

Rozzie, one more question. What airline did they book you on? I tried calling them now, but they're darn computers are down. I've got a Southwest rate of $205 roundtrip, but I would cancel if I could get a better rate through CRO!

Delta. *crossing fingers* I might have a pilot to get me there! ;)

Rozzie, when are your dates? Are CB and I just missing you, as we'll be arriving Sept 4 to the 10th? Oh boy, we could really party hard if we were able to make the same dates!

he really is pouting now. He could go, but really shouldn't. I am making him stick to his decision. He really has probably taken too much time off, and needs to get back after his conference.

I guess he never realized I would be so excited about going without him! :ROTFL:

If they do this again next year, I am going to do my darndest to go, but I would sure have to plan ahead to save the vacation. . Can I ask where you decided to stay? And do you pay up front or just the deposit. It has been so long since I booked a non-DVC room that I am not sure how that works anymore either.

The lovely POP! Never stayed value before. I am treating it like an adventure. I put a deposit on it, and I have till' July 12 to pay for it. I took out insurance so I could cancel without penalty. (something I miss!) If I can't find anyone to go with, I am going to cancel. I won't be devestated, only disappointed. I know what you mean about planning way out, the last minute trips are fun. I have been devestated before when plans fall apart on those way out trips I plan. :(

WOW...this is a timely thread.

I've been scheming a way to get my nephews (13 and 7) there in August for a few nights since their mother backed out on their October trip.
:computerg
I've been held up by airfare...UNTIL TODAY!

To start (since I don't have points left) I got WL standard for $130/night. AP rate.

I got PHL to MCO on Southwest for $137.10pp RT (after taxes). To put this in perspective, I ALMOST booked Delta for about $157pp RT until I checked SW just to be sure.

The only real wallet crusher will be buying them park tickets. :headache:

Hey, I really like Pop Century. That is't saying that you wouldn't miss your DVC, but all things considered, I really like Pop, great location, new, clever themes. On the other hand, you couldn't pay me to stay at the AllStars again.

You will miss your fridge and microwave. And, it will make you appreciate your DVC even that much more.

I didn't realize you were seriously looking for someone to go with. I hope it works out . I would seriously consider, but I am probably heading to see my Mom in Shalimar the week of Labor Day and am trying to figure out flying into VPS or flying into Pensacola with cheaper fares and renting a car. Looking at all the options right now.

Rwe----oh I didn't mean to be mean about POP. ;) I had my choice, POP or AllStars. I have read sevearal positive reviews about POP, I hope I can try it out. It makes a great economical alternative to weekend nights with DVC.

So what about AllStars was so bad? Do tell Rwe!! :sunny:

Most of the time we have stayed at AllStars we checked in late, stayed there to save points and move to DVC next day.

Once they gave us a key to a room that was occupied, folks were asleep. It was a real pain to go back to the front dek once we had schlepped all our stuff to the middle of the building and up the elevator and then to the end of that wing. We found AllStars to be not so easy to find your way around in the dark.

another time they just gave us totally wrong information as to where the room was and that sent us on a wild goose chase.

We have also been there when there were many large groups (cheerleaders, sports teams, etc.) and the noise was a real nuisance. I think now they try to book all those group at AllStars and leave Pop for families. I am glad they have a spot for those groups, I just don't want to be in the room that they hang out in front of all night long.

With Pop, they did a couple of things different. The bathroom is a little bigger. They made the curtains overlap to keep the morning sun out. The internet connections were actually located where the table is and not the nightstand. Plus it is just newer and nicer looking. Location is a whole lot better, imho. Food courts are a little nicer.

I didn't think you were being ugly about Pop, I was just trying to give you some reassurance since you had not stayed there before. It isn't the Taj Mahal, but it isn't Motel 6 either.

Rozzie!!!!!
I am so excited that you planned this trip!
I am so not excited that you blamed it on ME!:ROTFL:
As Matysgrandma said (thanks Pam) so MUCH has been blamed on me, it's no wonder that I am, yet again, the fall girl.

(Rozzie, you know, i presume, that I am just kidding....blame me all you want cuz I know in the end you will have a great time.)

OK...now we have to get Rozzie a travel companion. I checked J. Depp, but he will be in France, darn. (tho he was rather interested in the free dining, I must say.)
RWE...I think this is a PERFECT time for you to jump in to the rescue. You see, Pam made the Sept 4 ressie and then talked ME into it, so it is only fair that I try to talk you into it for Rozz.

Of course, we could always put this 'up for auction' on our rental board....

Rozz, please follow Pam's advice re insurance...that girl KNOWS how to save money (and I thought I took the prize in that category) She is GOOD!

You will catch up with us someday Rozz...we're getting older, so we might slow down a little in the next year or two.:ROTFL: I've asked around, and I believe that for only a little pishkesh, I can offer you an honorary Boardwalk Babe title!
(you fit the profile which is: girls (and Vikings) just wanna have fun!:D :ale: :margarita

For Rent:

3 nights at Pop Century Value resort. Must lodge with Rozzie. Must like a cold one at the pool, must love to shop, must be anxious/not able to sleep at night for excitement of new POTC. Must love to eat and love to eat free food. Must be Mickey crazed, love rides, yet love to stop and smell the roses.

:D :D :D

You would have much better luck if your ad read: 3 nights in a Grand Villa at Pop Century............ After all, you will be staying in the largest room they offer.

Stimpy has graciously accepted the dutiful task of being my friend/fellow free foodie/drinking partner/shopping helper for August!! :jumpingbe

The spacious accomodations (yes, I requested the grand villa Rwe, they said it could not be guaranteed, only a request ;) ) of Pop Century sleeps 4 guests. 5 if you have a refillable mug and belong to the other board, so there is still room for another girl or two for a girls weekend at Pop/free food!!
