According to my guide, Every Wed. from 5-6pm there will be a DVC members "party" held at the Atlantic Dance Hall. Snax, drinks, games and prize giveaways. I believe that she called them "Wild Wednesdays" and will be starting mid July- she said that more details will be on the website soon!

Cool! I could do with a wild Wednesday - we actually have nothing really scheduled for Wed on our early August trip - might be worth a stop! Hope it's not just a July thing!

I'm glad they are doing something like this.

I just find it kind of funny/desperate that they would pick Atlantic Dance for the location. AD just has not made it at BW regardless of what they try and do with it.

I would guess it is a good choice just because it has air conditioning!!!! It is HOT in July :sunny: I hope we get to check it out on the 19th :D

I found it a little odd too that they chose Atlantic Dance Hall- Easey peasey for BWV/BCV members but a little tougher for other resort members to get over there just for an hour-

I really should have stuck this thread under rumors and news as it is not 100% official yet and announced- mods???

Hmmm. Yeah, I'll move it over there. And if it becomes certain, we'll move it back! How's that?

Well, we used to frequent AD at least once a trip to dance.

That was pre 9-11 days, when they played music that we felt we could dance to.

As avid ballroom dancers, it was amzing that our feet could hurt so bad on the way back to our room. But we always found the energy to shower, change clothes and go dance until 1:00AM.

Up until the CMs got off work, the place was pretty empty. But then they started piling in. The place always reminded me of the watermelon scene in Dirty Dancing. The room full of kids dancing and having fun.

Then after 9-11, they stopped having music geared towards specific dance types (pre- 9-11 there was a swing night, latin night, salsa night, etc) and now it is pretty much noise to our ears.

Every trip, we always make a point to walk up to the door to see what is going on for hte week. It is always the same DJs. And from past experience, they play what they want to play, not anything near to what you request. Even if you are the only one in the place.

So I am exicted they are going to do something with AD. Even if it is for an hour.
But I agree, not really easy to get to for three of the DVC resorts.

Oh! I want to learn how to ballroom dance!!!!!
Perhaps with the influx of dance shows on TV lately, Disney can revive the AP.

I agree that even on weekends, even without a cover, they just can't get it filled.
Maybe if they did 'classes' like they do on the cruise ships....like an hour of salsa class and then dance music for the evening that could change hourly.

Maybe you'll have to do a 'dance' meet for one of our mouseowner meets?

Everytime we get back home from vacation, we get a survey postcard in the mail (are you truly randomly selected for those or does EVERYONE get one???)

Anyway, every survery we mention AD and how disappointed we are at the change and it must fall on dead ears. Or maybe we are the only ones that have noticed.

The last CM we asked said that after 9-11 attendance became next to nothing and that was it.

One time we lucked into a live Blues Brothers type band. They played from 9 PM to 11 PM and then they left and the DJ started playing. We never understood that. You would think the live band would be there late at night, not when they first opened.

AD has a wonderful wooden floor for dancing.

Colorado Belle-you find the floor space and Ron and I will be more than happy to dance with you.:bouncingg

Its a date.

The September trip is the one we lucked into BW at 97 days out for two weeks straight.

Only thing we have on our agenda for that trip is to parasail, since we got cancelled out three times on our April trip.

And DH suggested last night since my job security just too a turn for the worse as of this week, we should extend that trip out for a few days and make a visit to the Casting Center.

Plenty of time to meet up with you. Where are you staying?

Staying at Pop with free dining! Sept 4-11. But might be coming in sooner to catch a shuttle launch (window starting Aug 28).

Own at BWV, but couldn't resist the free dining ressies at Pop that my good bud Pam (Matysgranma) happened to negotiate for us. Especially since we are coming back Sept 29 for Food and Wine and Party of the Senses!

But we will for sure have a car, so hooking up somewhere should be fairly easy. I'm sure we'll be over to the BW for a trip to Jelly's. We have dinner plans at Le Cellier, Chefs, and Marrakesh at Epcot (and I usualltyl just valet park at BW for that)

Hopefully, we'll have enough people for a Grand Gathering of some type, or even just a mini gathering for margartias!!!!

And so you officially get moved back to "perks":) .

Maybe you would like to edit your title?

And now I'm wondering how long they'll last. We'll be there in mid-Sept., but I'm not thinking that qualifies as summer.

If anyone can report back the dates for Welcome Home Wednesdays, please let us know. My next trip to WDW isn't until late October. I'd like to attend if they're still doing it then.

This sounds alot like last summers Summer Block Party Tuesday that ran July and August, every Tuesday on PI from 5-7 pm.

This was a real blast. We went in late August for what was then the last Tuesday event and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Lots of free stuff and discount coupons for more great stuff. It was definitely geared towards Members and the sales staff was out in force pushing SSR add-ons.

There was a fun trivia contest with lots of audience participation, carney games, stilt walkers, jugglers, and a couple of fab door prizes - two massive gift baskets, and I mean massive. I remember last Sept reading on another board that the lady who won the night we were there could not physically pack the basket for the trip home and had to take the goodies inside and leave the basket behind.

Each of us was given a DVC pin with flashing lights as well. We wore them at HHI in the spring and had lots of offers from eager buyers!

My advice - DONT MISS IT!

I was told by MS that this replaces the weekly member updates at SSR and will continue indefinately. Take that with a grain of salt.

No, they've also now announced the Summer Block Party Tuesdays are back too starting at the end of this month. So there will be both SBP Tuesdays at PI and Welcome Home Tuesdays at AD.

So which days are these things - I thought it was Welcome Home Wed and PI Block Party Thursdays - or that's what I recall from the Disney website?!?

Monday, Wednesday, Friday - whatever - Now I'm all confused!

Attend the Summer Block Party
Disney Vacation Club is inviting Members and their guests to take part in the second annual Summer Block Party, an exclusive Member gathering taking place at Pleasure Island at the Walt Disney World® Resort on Thursdays from July 20-Aug. 31.

Members will gather with their Disney neighbors in and near the Rock 'n' Roll Beach Club and Motion clubs for two hours of evening fun (5-7 p.m.), including live entertainers, games, refreshments and more. Admission to the party is free.

As an added bonus, Members attending the party will receive complimentary admission to Pleasure Island nightclubs for the remainder of the evening. (Note that some clubs require Guests to be age 21 or older.)

"Last year's Summer Block Party events were big hits," said Disney Vacation Club Cast Member Carol Chukwu, one of the organizers behind this year's events. "It's a great way for Members to visit with other Member families and get a jump start on a great night at Pleasure Island. We're really looking forward to welcoming Members 'home' to this year's events."

No registration is necessary for this event. Just show up, present your Disney Vacation Club Member ID and get ready to seize the night!

And this from the website:

Welcome Home Wednesdays is the newest Member event at the Walt Disney World® Resort. These interactive gatherings take place on most Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. inside Atlantic Dance Hall at Disney's BoardWalk entertainment district. They present Members and their family and friends with the latest Disney Vacation Club scoops and exciting updates — through a high-energy, interactive game show. Deevy See, a beloved diva at many Member events, is among the zany cast of characters who may be the game show's surprise host on any given date.

Members and their family and friends enjoy light refreshments while testing their knowledge in a variety of Disney categories, including Home Resorts, Perks, "Where in the World?," and the ever popular "Mousellaneous."

Schedules and locations for Welcome Home Wednesdays are subject to change, so be sure to look for details in your check-in folder during your next Walt Disney World® vacation.

Looks like Wed for the Welcome Home and Thurs. for the Block party. Is it typical for them to host two events like this, one right after the other? Can't remember if they did that last visit or not. Usually we are too busy to do these events, or we have family with us that isn't interested, but this time, the Welcome Home Wed. is right up our alley, right time, right area - hoping to give it a whirl!

Oops...it is indeed Block Party Thursdays. I guess I would have been at PI some Tuesday, wondering where everyone was. :idontgeti I put the info on it's own thread here too in case somebody missed it in the body of a Member Wlecome Home Wednesday's thread.

It is surprising to have two DVC gatherings back to back like this, but they mght think that each one draws a different kind of member? One that wants information and one that wants entertainment?

Don't they know that most people here can multi-task? :margarita :teacher: :dancingba

So the big question pour moi (narcissism aside) is: will this still be on for my
Sept 4-11 trip??????

The Block party says AUg 31, but how about the WEd party? You know me, always looking for a free margarita!:ROTFL:

This will be great having member update at the BW! Seems to be a more central location than going out to SSR. Well at least for some!
