I lead a sheltered life...;) I have only been to HOB and Raglan Road- Years ago to Fultons when it was a character meal. BUT I am ready to branch out and try somewhere new- Any suggestions?
(will still make my traditional visit to HOB too! :))
Laura,
At least you're 1000 miles away. I'm 10 minutes down the road and you've been to more restaurants at Downtown Disney than iIhave. We eat at Wolfgang Puck a lot and enjoy it. I started a thread a while back about favorite bars and lots of people mentioned the Adventurer's Club. I still haven't been there and don't know whether they serve food.

I still have not been to the AC, but I don't think they serve food in there.
I have eaten at HOB, Raglan Rd, Puck's, Earl's ( :ROTFL: ), Cap't Jack's and Rainforest. They are all pretty good. I would like to go to Bongo's, but my dad gave it the :thumbsway . That was awhile ago, however.
Whatever resturant you pick, go to either Gherideli's or Haagen-Daz for desert.....

AC doesn't serve food...but has good drinks! :margarita
We ate at Portabello a few years ago and I wasn't too impressed with it. The only thing I really remember about it was really long waits, don't remember the food at all so I guess it wasn't too outstanding. Wait a minute...is that restaurant even still there??
We liked Raglan Road last month, although the server was really slow. I would definately go back.
Anyone remember the Fireworks Factory (or something like that  )? I used to love that place!

I have been to HOB, not that impressed.
And Rainforest Cafe. We always seem to go there, I would say that is my favorite.
I think we did Earl's once. I don't remember that one though.

Hi Laura!
Wolfgang Puck's Cafe has great upscale food!:chef: :chef:
Earl of Sandwich has great sandwiches!:yummy:
Raglan Road has great pints and the food was good, but not necessarily great!:ale:
Adventurer's Club has the best comedy around (if you don't mind being dragged into their comedic sketches----too funny!

We haven't eaten at very many DTD restaurants. Only Earl of Sandwich, Bongs, HOB, and Planet Hollywood.
I know no one is going to agree with me, but our favorite must do is Bongs. We always eat lunch and always get the same thing Cuban Sandwich and Tres Leche cake. We don't have any a restaurant like this near us at home, so we really enjoy Bongs.
We also enjoy Earl and usually go at least once and get a sandwich.
HOB was good but we have one kind of near us in SC, PH was overpriced when I ate there a loooooong time ago.

By far, our favorite is Earl of Sandwich. We eat there at least 2x when staying at SSR or OKW.
We did Raglan Road this last time, and the food was good, the atmosphere and the pints were the best. We got caught up in a lot of Irish singalongs.
HOB? I have never been impressed. For some reason Mr. Rozzie always wants to go there. (?)
I want to try Wolfgang's this next trip, I have a ADR there for the upstairs dining room.

Hi,
I like HOB too but also like Rainforest Cafe & Wolfgang Puck's Cafe!!

Well, I haven't tried as many as I would like to. But now that I stay at SSR, I bet I'll get to try more of them.
My favorite so far is Earl's. It is now a must do. Yummy sandwiches, and you can't beat the price.
I've eaten at Bongo's once and enjoyed it.
I've always liked Wolfgang Puck express, haven't tried his others yet.
Will be trying Raglan Road for the 1st time in Oct.
Gotta love Ghiradelli's!!!!!!
Refuse to go to the Rainforest as we have one in one of our local malls.
Never tried HOB, although I should cause we had one here in Boston, but it closed.
And I love Planet Hollywood, for the atmosphere.
Stimpy-I remember the Fireworks Factory! I know I really enjoyed their burgers and it was one of my mothers favorite places to dine.

Pucks Cafe.
Pucks Express is a waste of space.
Never tried Bongos.
Everywhere else at DTD is Good to Okay.
I'd like to see more people support Captain Jacks because it is the last true Disney restaurant in DTD.

Gotta clash with the Viking over Puck Express - love their peanut-noodles thingy, whatever its called, LOL. I am so excited that this place counts as "counter service" - my family may all go pick up stuff over at Earl's, but as for me - I'll be in the Express Lane, thanks! I have had some great soups, salads there - different type fare, it's quick, I can take it with me and enjoy the sights/sounds of the market place area or have a place to sit and enjoy. The gopher likes it.
We have done RFC a few times now - DS11 HATES it - swears the gorillas are "all looking at him." DS9 LOVES IT - and probably hopes the gorillas are all looking at him, LOL. I'm sort of so-so on it - it does seem pricey, even by WDW / resort area standards - for what you get. We had awesome seats one time - right by a cool fish tank, sort of tucked away from the hub bub. Made us feel more "immersed" in the "experience, perhaps. But the next time, we were in the thick of the mayhem, a darker part of the jungle - not as nice, i think.
Did HOB when there on a bus. trip - frankly, while I loved the bread pudding, bottom line is my crew would not like the food overall nor the ambiance, esp. DH, so I doubt we will go there as a fam.
We will do Earl's I am certain, but have yet to do Portobellos, Planet Hollywood, or any of the others. We have done the ice cream stuff, though. Frankly, we don't tend to dine over at DTD - usually we do DTD on a "no-parks" day (my kids think DTD is the 5th park!) We may eat a character b'fast somewhere, then hit DTD, let the kids splash in the fountains afterwards, then either eat a snack we brought (followed by ice cream at Ghir's) or head back to the villa, and then dinner and pool-hopping at a resort. I suppose we could give Planet H a try if we get desperate - we can get 20% off through our Dealpass membership, which would probably be about the only incentive to give it a shot. Other than that - there are just so MANY places around WDW, the ones at DTD just don't seem to fit into our play list!
BTW - I know it's not a restaurant per se (my kids might argue otherwise and try to get ADRs there, LOL!) - but go into Goofy's candy store! Notice the overpowering throat-aching smell of bubblegum at the doorway? That smell is actually not from the shop merchandise - it's specifically piped into the air as an enticement for sales. I had an interesting conversation with some CMs about that. They said you would not beilieve how many places the "smell-sell" is done around Disney! I am going to really keep my nose in gear on our trip this August to just see how many places I can detect this ploy in action. But be prepared for a real assault on the senses in the candy store - they needed to turn the dial back a bit, LOL, but then, I cannot handle the smell of bubble gum anyway, so perhaps it's just wimpy me.

Who remembers the Empress Lilly (now Fulton's)? I don't remember my dinner there, but for dessert was the best white chocolate ice cream topped with berries of the season. To die for. Cold Stone is the only place that I've seen white chocolate ice cream and it doesn't come close to EL. Adventurer's Club is a great time but no food. It seems that we always end up at RFC due to letting the kids choose. At 5 and 7 yrs old, it's cool to eat with monkeys! Can never go wrong at Ghirardelli's! Going to try Raglan Road in October. Which is better, Earl's or Raglan?
Captain Jack's used to be one of my favorites and I'll walk a couple of miles for a margarita---particularly one of their strawberry numbers. But I must say that the last time we were in there it looked really tired and the food wasn't much better. A shame because it's in a fantastic spot. It just looks oh so 70's.

I'll have to disagree with Viking about Pucks Express. We love it. I have had their Chicken ceasar salad several times. They also have a good BBQ rotissere (?) chicken. The only thing that I don't care for is their tea. I think it is peach flavored, and I hate flavored tea. We also get our trusty DVC discount on the meal, what more could you ask for. The price is great for real food, especially if you don't want another order of Chicken strips or burgers.
Earl's- we love the sandwiches and the price is sure right for WDW.
RF- the place is fine. It's fun for the kids. But we hardly ever eat there because the wait is usually too ridiculous.
Planet Hollywood- neat memorobilia, but the food is so not impressive. We won't eat here again unless the kids just really want to.
Fulton's- we ate lunch here a few years ago. It was fine, but pricey. We can get seafood at home that is better and much less expensive, so we aren't in any hurry to go back.
I think we ate HOB at DD in DL one time. I remember nothing about it....
I guess our thing is we never make ADR's at DTD, soo we never eat at any of the sit down restaurants. DD isn't usually a planned thing on our calendar, we usually just decide we are too tired to go to a park and head there instead. Once I see the wait times for the sit down restaurants, we usually just forget about it and do a CS place. I really think that I would like to try Raglan Road next trip though, so I'll put it on our list.

On the other hand for me and the wife it's Fultons all the way.The problem with fultons family dinner is I would need to take a equity loan to pay for dinner. My last dinner for two was $175.00 with tip and that was with the DVC discount. We only had 2 drinks each so it was nor a booz bill that made it that high.

My vote goes to Wolfgang Puck Cafe. (That is downstairs, not the more upscale upstairs). YUM! Pricey unless you are on the DDP.
Raglan Road was ok, but had great desserts.
Did the Empress Lily long ago and kinda miss it!
Can't wait to do Wolfangs again the next trip followed by Adventurer's Club!

OOOOH I missed another great question!!!
Hands down, my current favourite is Raglan Road. From the athmosphere, service, variety, food quality, and most importantly the desserts, it's a winner (see my December review and subsequent March lunch review as proof!!!)
In fact, I have made RR a must and went 2x on each of my last two trips. Another reason to enjoy staying at OKW and SSR.
Other favourites? any of the Wolfgang Puck options (but I do find the Express is better in terms of service/speed on the Westside). Count me as another 'not with Viking on that one'.
House of Blues for a very creative veggie option any time I go.
Earl of Sandwich but only right when they open - otherwise the lines get just too crazy.
I tried Bongo's on a trip last year - hadn't been in years, and it was FANTASTIC!!! I wish that the takeaway window had veggie options - if they did, I would be there....
You can have my seat at Rainforest Cafe - I never need to go there again thanks. Ditto Planet Hollywood.
I love the look at Ghiardelli, but since I can't take much dairy I have to toss my items out after they are 1/4 finished. :( But I did hear a rumour that they have chocolate covered bananas - if that is true, I am SO THERE!
Have never eaten at McDonalds there (can't recall the last time I ate at McDonalds ANYWHERE)
Fultons is ok - I am not as big as fan as others seem to be.
Part of why I like staying at OKW and SSR is the walk to DTD for takeaway or dinner.

It's one of the few places I can get an arroz con pollo, or a yummy churrasco(grilled skirt steak :) ), while on vacation. And I can't remember what night I went last year, but after dinner, you can hang out and dance to salsa and merengue. :kickingco

Stimpy, we liked the Fireworks Factory, even though it was always packed. I will go you one older, anyone remember when you first walked in to PI thru the main entrance, there was a huge place that sold rotisserie chicken and it had tons of bbq spits, like at Tusker House. That was the first time I had seen a restaurant doing chickens like that and fell in love with it then and have loved it ever since.

Definitely Bongos Cuban Cafe. The cuban sandwiches are delicious for lunch, but they are also a great place for dinner especially if you like cuban food. They make a great Bistec de Palomilla ( thin sirloin with delicious flavor topped with sauteed onions. Their moro (rice and black beans together aka dirty rice) is excellent. Definitely our favorite. One minus - don't think the DDP applies here.

I went with my stepsister and BIL to Bongos in December. Most reviews I'd read were negative, so I didn't really want to go. But we did, and none of us were impressed with the meals. The rice was good, though! My chicken wasn't anything special, and they ordered a tres leche (sp?) cake that was not tasty. I had never had it, but I made it for them a couple of days later (that was easy and turned out great).
I wouldn't go back. It was pricey, and not as good as Cuban restaurants I've been to previously.

Count us in as follows:
1. Fulton's
2. Raglan Road
3. Capt. Jacks For Lunch
Planet Hollywood is over rated. GKids love Rainforrest Cafe but we usually do that at AK.
Of course we all like the Choclate Shop, but RR has the best deserts from just about anywhere.
My favorite is Fultons even though I haven't eaten there in a couple of years. The Collosal King Crab Legs are the best ever. The server told me that the crabs are as big around as Herbie the Love Bug. I can believe it, seeing how huge the legs are. We also like Portabello Yacht Club alot. Again, fresh seafood. They are very accommodating, as well. I have switched sauces with pasta dishes, and even requested some special preparations. No problem for the PYC chef. Planet Hollywood is good for chain food. Decent burgers and good fajitas.
For Counter-service, you can't find much better than Puck Express. Sorry Viking. We really like this place. I haven't felt like an adult ordering mac n' cheese except at this place. Great salads, quesadillas and broasted chicken. Great DDP value. Disappointed we missed it this last trip. Earl of Sandwich is OK for us, but we have so many toasted sub places in Chicago it is just nothing spectacular for us. I much prefer the White Hen next door to my office. (Owner Butch makes the best sandwich in the whole world, so I am biased.)
For a special treat, the Gospel Brunch at HOB is pretty cool. Decent food, plenty of it, and really great gospel music.
I agree with John on Cap'n Jack's. Ate there for the first time in October. I was really looking forward to it because of all I had read on the boards. Really disappointed. Bad service. Food not great. Only the margarita was worth the trip.
Ghirardelli Soda Fountain is a MUST!!!! Gooey Brownie covered with vanilla ice cream smothered in Hot Fudge sauce. That is pure heaven.

I want to put this in context, I wouldn't eat at any of these suggestions at home but for the sake of the thread I'll pick what we feel are the "best".
We eat at, Rainforest Cafe (I lied above, we have eaten here at home at the mall), Wolfgang Pucks (Rest. & Express), Earl of Sandwich, Portobello Yacht Club, Fultons.

Raglan Road - Great food, nice beer selection, good atmosphere and entertainment. I've had great service (friendly) but I've heard enough complaints to say this might be hit-or-miss. If you want a quieter experience, go earlier and don't sit right around the main bar. If you want a louder experience, do the opposite.
Earl of Sandwich - can be long lines although they seem to move fast. The bread and fillings are excellent, although if you put in a special order it can be nervewracking because you can't see what they are doing when the make the sandwich (unlike a Subway, for example). But top-notch sandwiches.
Wolfgang Puck Express - I like but don't love the food here. Good but not outstanding.
Goofy's Candy Company - A great experience, and a good way to use up snack credits when on the DDP. The order your own candy experience is fun - and we've discovered that the pretzel sticks are a good choice for this - partly because they cut some of the overwhelming sweetness of the coatings and toppings and partly because you get three sticks so you can easily do different flavours.
Ghiradelli - really excellent sundaes and chocolate. I suggest splitting unless you have a massive appetite.
Cheesecake Factory (in DisneyQuest) - not particularly tasty, in my recollection.
That's all the places I've eaten at, so mostly some pretty good food. An EoS sandwich is a good choice to buy and put in your carry-on for the plane ride home.
By the way, the oyster thing (I know this is a thread about food, but someone mentioned it) is much better presented at the huge store in Japan in Epcot than in DD Marketplace.

I like Bongos Cuban Cafe (great cuban sandwitches, and coffee) if it is for a quick bite (Cafeteria side of restaurant) but we also like Rainforest Cafe, Girardehlli square for dessert.:coffee2::rockband:
:iagree: Bongos by far is our favorite place for Cuban Sandwiches and we ask for an order of Mariquitas - thin sliced fried plantain chips instead of fries....that and a couple of Cuban (o.k. Puerto Rican) beers and we couldn't be happier. :cheers2: Also, if you haven't tried their cappacinos yet, your in for a treat! :loveisint
Also love Wolfgang Puck Express and the Earl!
BTW, HOB has good ribs but has anyone tried their skillet baked rosemary corn bread with maple butter? :worship:

My first opinion post here.
Hands down Earl of Sandwich.
But I like them all, so it's really significant that it's my favorite. Their food tastes the best. But the other places offer something- variety :cheerlead
Nothing better than sitting at the bar at RR with a beer in hand and singing along to "The Fields of Athenry" oh and the food is great also!!!

Some of my favorite places are at DTD:
Bongos is always a standout for me, Cuban sandwiches are delicious (let's put pork on a ham sandwich and fry it, how can you go wrong?) They also have a surprising variety of food, something to satisfy most everyone. I'm also fond of the papas rellenos (think deep fried mashed potatoes stuffed with meat, yummy!) And of course mojitos, although they are overpriced.
I like HOB, although mostly I like the Shrimp Po' boy, which I think is only on the lunch menu, but you can still order it at dinner.
We also used to have a Rainforest Cafe' when we lived in Phoneix, which was totally awful. My wife loves the RFC in DTD (and Animal Kingdom). It is much better than the one in Phoenix was, but it's still not quite my cup of tea.

but the couple of times that we did eat there, DH and I ate at Capt. Jacks and really liked it. It was during Soap Week so it was crazy but the food and service was good considering the crowd. The whole family has gone to the Rainforest and we love it, we go to the one here in Nashville whenever we head down there. HOWEVER, I would highly suggest becoming a member of the Club that they have, it can make ALL the difference in the world as far as waits go. When we got there, it was an hour wait for dinner, until I showed our card and we were taken directly to the outside tables and seated immediately! That is normal though, Saturday the boy and I went school clothes shopping and the wait was 30 minutes for the family ahead of us, we walked up and got seated in about 2.:cheerlead Just this aspect is worth it, but you also get a free appitizer or 10% off your meal with the card.

We didn't like the HOB's very much. Bongo's looks like a fun place to try. Sitting at the bar at Capt Jacks during a sunset is always a relaxing time.

McDonalds LOL. Seriously the kids would eat that over any other place at DTD.
