Thrifty to WDW?

What's the best route from Thrifty to WDW? Take 528 or the Oceola Pkwy?

Our flight times have changed (for the better) and we now land around 7PM, but our rental reservation isn't until 8PM (Friday night). If we show up 30-45 minutes early, will that be a problem?

Also, we're hoping to catch Illuminations that night now. Should I drive directly to Epcot? Or go to PoP 1st, park and hop the bus before checking in? Oh, and we'll need to activate our AP's, will we be able to do that at the gate?

On the return to the airport, our flight leaves around 6:30 (on Tuesday), and I have the retal end time scheduled for 5pm. What time should I leave WDW to go back to Thrifty? What's the best route and best fill-er-up stop?

If I rent from Hertz, which is down the road, I usually take the 528 and Beachline (the only time I use that route)

Showing up early usually isn't a problem, but sometimes it can be! if they don't have a car in your size, they MAY upgrade you. Or they may make you wait until one comes back - this happens rarely even with Hertz Gold or National Emerald Club (rare, but it does happen)

If it were me, I'd drive to Epcot, park, activate the AP, and enjoy Illuminations. Otherwise, you may get caught in a long check in line at POP and/or a long bus wait. (that's just my advice, others may have better advice!)

Fill up at Hess onsite before taking the 417 to the airport - I've never had a problem doing that and not being 'full' on return. Then drive to the airport, and exit to the north (sorry, don't know the exact lingo for it but Thrifty will have instructions). That's how I return my Hertz car and avoid traffic on the 528/Beachline route. Allow about 30 minutes for the drive.
