An AP culture writer is reporting (http://asapblogs.typepad.com/theslug/2006/06/whats_mickey_mo.html) that Disney will host a press event tomorrow night in New York City. Rumors abound about the content, but it seems to be about future celebration plans, and possible some big news. Speculation is rife on the usual boards and all over the map. I guess will just have to wait and see!

The invite says,

"You're invited to... dream.

"Dream big.

"No really big. Like princesses-at-the-ball and pirates-on-the-high-seas big.

"Dream bigger than you ever have before.

"June 7, 2006, will be a monumental evening of Disney announcements. Be there as Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, reveals how Disney Parks around the globe will combine imagination and innovation as never before to make millions of dreams come true.

"Join us and discover how powerful dreams can be."

Deb Wills notes tha Allearsnet (http://www.allearsnet.com) will post details once they become available, too.

My own big dreams: a new DVC and a new cruise ship!

Thanks for the link. It's a pretty interesting teaser. Apparently, one of the promos will be a chance to spend the night in Cinderella's Castle. That would be awesome!

The sweepstake entry didn't work for me either. I'll have to try again tomorrow.

I hope I hope the big news is a west coast cruise ship that goes between a DVC in Hawaii and a new DVC in CA.

Yeah - Jim Hill is a fun site to read when you want to know what might be. And he's quite the character - banned from DL!! Anyway, his info isn't much different than the official website, now, but it does suggest this is more hype and less substance than we had hoped.

Wow, there are just so many things I think I would want.

I am kind of torn between lifetime admission for my family and more DVC points (with dues paid by them of course :) ) and maybe with an open rider to exchange some of those points they give me now for a future resort I may want.

A lifetime 'guest' pass that includes:
...admission to any theme park anytime
...lodging at any resort (including of course DVC Grand Villas!)
...tagalong privileges on any 'tour'
...free dining including at V & A's
...liberal use of water toys (I want my own pontoon boat for cruising Seven Seas at night to watch Wishes)

Ok I like that...But I wanna talk about magical...? :) I have been daydreaming all day about spending the night...catered of course by V&A's...in Cindys Castle. With of course, my very own personal fireworks display of Wishes. I could go on and on but I dont want to bore you with any details! ;)

Wishes can come true, if you believe in them with all your heart and the best part is.. you will never run out of wishes...they are shining deep down inside of you..cause that my friends is where the magic lives.

What did [Jim Hill] do to get banned from DL?
He ran his own unofficial tours of the park - giving his own perspectives of the Disney parks. The problem was, 3 people who signed up for the official "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour ended up on his tour by mistake and complained! It's rather amusing.

The Pittsburg Post Gazette has the story here (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05109/490379.stm).

Hill is kind of the "National Enquirer" of the Disney blog world. He has just enough factual info to be credible, but spins it in quite interesting ways.

What did he do to get banned from DL?

He used to run his own walking tours of DL a couple times per year and charge a few bucks for it. About a year ago he was conducting one such tour and DL security intervened.

Here's one article I was able to find on his website:

http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2005/03/21/566.aspx

It seems like there's more to the story than that, but in my cursory searching I couldn't find the other article. I seem to remember that one contributing factor was that a handful of Disneyland guests paid for one of the OFFICIAL DL tours and somehow hooked-up with Jim's crowd instead. At some point they became disenchanted with the somewhat cynical nature of their tour guide (Jim) and complained to DL management. That's when security was called.

I think that's a pretty accurate re-telling. A few weeks later Dave Koenig, who has written a number of books on DL, was giving his own (free) tours and was also harassed by security. Could be that I'm confusing some of the events between these two incidents.

Either way, Jim's situation actually made the national news. I remember my wife telling me that she heard about it on the radio or that it was mentioned on TV somewhere. I don't believe he is actually banned from DL. They did take down his AP information so I'm sure he's flagged as a "person of interest." But I don't recall him saying that his AP was flat-out confiscated.

Allearsnet has the press release and summary of the press event tonight here (http://www.allearsnet.com/news/hnews.htm#60706).

The only attraction I wasn't aware of was the laugh floor comedy club that's going where Timekeeper used to be. Sounds like it could be fun.

The big prize seems to be a night in Cinderella's castle. Sounds impressive!

The "impossible" includes the creation of over-the-top, overnight experiences for winning guests at both East and West Coast resorts: a royal bedchamber inside Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World Resort and a Mickey Mouse Penthouse at Disneyland Resort, both expected to be complete by January 2007.

A day of royal treatment will end with a night of enchantment inside Cinderella Castle for a different lucky guest each night. Cinderella's royal bedchamber, now under construction at Magic Kingdom, will allow Disney guests to stay overnight inside the park and enjoy a view shared only by Tinker Bell. The lavishly decorated bedroom will be located in a space originally planned as an in-park apartment for the use of the Disney family.

New Parks and Resorts Global Initiative Launched

On the evening of June 7 at the Skylight Studio gallery in New York City's trendy SoHo district, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo announced a new initiative called "Where Dreams Come True," which will unify the global efforts of Disney parks like never before and reach to the very heart of what makes them unique.

"One of the keys to our great legacy has always been our amazing Cast Members," Jay said. "They are known and loved around the world for the exemplary Guest service they provide. These are the people who, on a daily basis, literally make dreams come true."

Since 1955 Disney Cast Members have been essential in helping Guests realize their Disney dreams, and, starting Oct. 1, the Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® resorts will celebrate the "Year of a Million Dreams." Cast Members will award 1 million dreams — both large and small, including many money-can't-buy experiences — to Guests selected at random through a unique "Disney Dreams Giveaway" promotion. A variety of dreams will be granted, including Golden FASTPASS™ tickets, private meetings with favorite Disney characters and over-the-top, overnight experiences for winning Guests at both East and West Coast resorts — a royal bedchamber inside Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom® Park and the Mickey Mouse Penthouse at the Disneyland® Hotel.

The announcement also confirmed a number of new attractions and entertainment that will debut during the "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration. In addition to the previously announced Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland® Park, The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot® and "Finding Nemo – The Musical" at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Park, Jay announced two new experiences:

Disneyland® Park will open Rockin' Space Mountain in spring 2007.With innovative lighting and technology, the attraction will become an all-new experience in which rockets will "rock it" through the greatest concert in the universe along with an original soundtrack that will fit the exciting twists and turns of this Disney classic.
In early 2007, the Laugh Floor Comedy Club will debut at the Magic Kingdom® Park. Guests will find the power of laughter in an engaging and interactive new adventure inspired by Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc., as they match wits with the one-eyed hero Mike Wazowski and his friends.

'Keys to the Magic Kingdom'
One lucky Guest family will receive a once-in-a-lifetime dream come true as they get to experience the Magic Kingdom Park all to themselves. Guests may enter for a chance to win the "Keys to the Magic Kingdom" promotion* online at www.mydisneyparks.com. Promotion guidelines are also online; entries may be made between now and July 31, 2006, and the lucky family will get to experience their magical dream come true on Oct. 2, 2006.

* Cast Members, their families and members of their immediate household are not eligible.

I too am not terribly excited to spend the night in Cinderella's castle. It sounds as if only one person can and not the whole family. I definatly wouldn't want that.

I still can't get the link to come up. It says Loading 100% with that pixie dust floating around before the word loading but nothing is happening.

And it's been like that for a few minutes now.

I can't imagine Disney would separate a family like that. I suspect it's one room, but probably set up for 4 people. My question - are you chosen for that night during the length of your stay? What about your luggage in your room? Will Cinderalla's footmen pack everything up, bring it to you, and then re-pack it for return?!!

While I'd love to spend the night in the park (even the operational stuff would fascinate me), I don't want to pack/unpack. Besides, who would sleep if you could be there all night?!
