View Full Version : June Survivor - Tom Sawyer Island :p
PoohsPal
06-07-2006, 02:28 AM
Objective:
Work out 3 times per week for at least 30 minutes each time. Do this each week and stay on the island. If not, you become an island cm. The main point of this is to get you in the habit of working out. Feeling accountable to the rest of the group is a great motivation.
Weeks:
Weeks start on Sunday and run through Saturday. This challenge starts on Sunday Nube 4.
Challenge:
Each week will will have a different challenge. If you incorporate this challenge and 3 work outs into your week, you will receive one immunity work out. This can be added to a bad week to help you meet your total of 3. (i.e., 1 3-work out week and challenge = 1 work out) Challenges will typically take less than 10 minutes to complete.
What Counts as Exercise?
Walking, running, jogging, wogging, dancing, moving, painting, cleaning, intense gardening... Anything that works your body!
Just because it's productive doesn't mean it's not exercise!
Immunity
Injuries and illness are automatically immunity for the week. I do not want to encourage working out on a part that's already injured or wearing yourself down additionally when you are sick.
Getting Back on the Island:
If you are a cm and want to get back on the island, you must do 4 workouts in one week, plus the challenge. This will reinstate you the following week.
Weekly Tracking:
:donald: = 1 work out
:bouncingm = 2 work outs
:bouncegoo = 3 work outs
:mickeybar = 3 work outs plus challenge
:wizard: = Island Reinstatement (4 workouts plus challenge)
Due to my tardiness, I'm just copying May's challenger list. If there's a new challenger, just let me know!

Just back from my 70 minutes of PT! Only guy therapists there today. They had fun putting me on this square of gushy padding, telling me to balance on the knee that had surgery and throw a 2 lb medicine ball at a mini trampoline and catch it and throw it repeatedly. Boy, I found out that I have fairly poor coordination :scary: :faint:

Denny - Typical tems in Janat WDW range from 20 to 80. Last year, it was unseasonably cold. Started at 34 at 6 am, ended at 67 aruond 11 am. By mile 9, I was doen to shorts and sleeveless shirt. An hour of skating last night until a quarter-sized blister ripped open! I don't really want to develop callouses in the arches of my feet, so I hope the skates soften as the break in or something.
At least the rest of my feet... toes, heels, everything, seem completely unbothered by the skates. It's just my arches!
Anyway, still having mucho fun and improving rapidly! I actually managed to skate backwards for a short ways yesterdays. Doing backwards swizzles, anyway, which is sort of a precursor to really skating backwards.

I did 50 minutes today. I did my challenge on the tread as I walked a mile straight uphill:bugeyed: Then I did PT and abs to round it out:sunny:
Since there are a lot of you working abs, does anyone do them by curling your butt off the floor instead of your back and shoulders? That is a great way to work the lower abdomen.

Hey guys!
Had to take rest days on Wed and Thurs due to foot pain. Happy to report that the foot feels MUCH better.
Last night was my 5 Mile Trail Race. Finished in 50:56. This was one of the hardest things I've ever done. So glad I finished...uninjured!!!! What an experience :).
Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Congrats to everyone on the runs and races :worship: Was it fun, Kerry?
Carrie mentioned me having a challenge for this week...I would like to challenge anyone who wants to - to do a compound muscle move this week as a part of their workout. This is just a strength move that involves two or more muscles. There are many to choose from; some the main ones are pushups, pull-ups, tricep dips, supermans, lunges, squats etc...:sunny:
I was doing abs today so I did a slow scissor move with my legs that works the adductor muscles and lifted into a crunch between each scissor move. That works several muscles :highfive: You can do something different each day.
Got an hour in today on the bike, xertube arm and chest workout plus abs.

OK, some Silly Old Bear forgot to do her challenge Friday & Saturday, so I’m still a CM, even though I di d4 work outs. Really got to get on the ball this week. Of course, I’ll get on when we start a new month soon.
Month Change Note: I’m going to count Saturday as June and Start July on Sunday. Please change all of your calendars accordingly. ;)
Week 4 Challenge
I would like to challenge anyone who wants to - to do a compound muscle move this week as a part of their workout. This is just a strength move that involves two or more muscles. There are many to choose from; some the main ones are pushups, pull-ups, tricep dips, supermans, lunges, squats etc. Just do that one move for 2-3 sets, maybe 5-12 reps for most choices
Thanks Lisa!
Clarification – Just one of those workouts does a compound muscle group? I’m thinking so, but if I’m not 100% sure, maybe someone else isn’t either.
Still need challenge help if anyone can think of something! What would help you?

Yes, you can pick one compound muscle move. There are many to choose from! Just do that one move for 2-3 sets, maybe 5-12 reps for most choices. I plan to do a different move each day that I work out. Other challengers may want to learn a new move and practice that one all week to get better at it :cheerlead

Way to go on the pushups, Carrie :cheerlead Scary, aren't they? I didn't mention that when I first started working out regularly a few years ago, I did pushups against the wall, then against the back of the couch. Eventually, I worked my way down to doing them on the floor; I wasn't strong enough at first to do them down low :help:
