:help: Ok I know that I am probably going to buy resale, and I have found a good contract, for SSR, but I only want SSR because of the extended contract time. I would rather stay at OKW. :Pinkflami We travel in the off season 99% of the time; Jan or Sept (to avoid crowds), so I don't think getting a room at OKW would be to much of a problem in the 7 mo window, but I am not sure what to do; Any suggestions? Please Please :worship: help!!!!

What kind of accomodations will you be staying in most of the time? If you'll need GVs, or two bedrooms, you should probably buy at OKW. Otherwise, you should be okay buying at SSR. OKW is the second largest DVC resort, and it's not that difficult to get villas there during the off-seasons.

I'm new to this whole thing, but I would say go for the SSR and just make your ressies at OKW at 7 months....I don't think you'd have much of a problem. We bought at SSR and don't plan on staying there every time we go. It was also suggested to me that I could make the reservations at SSR at the 11 month window, and then at 7 months make the ressies at OKW. If the room you wanted was available at OKW, they're cancel the ones at SSR. If not, you're not out of a room. It's just my opinion....someone with more experience may have more information for you.

Hope this helps!

There are six of us 2 adults and 4 kids (8, 3, 2 & soon to be newbie :birhdaypa ) so we probably would need a 2 bedroom unless you can squeeze this many in a 1 bedroom at OKW.

Heck, just buy a few air mattresses, grab some towels at the pool and stay in a studio.

As a SSR owner, who is a OKW lover and had to do it all over again, I would buy OKW. Don't get me wrong, I am staying at SSR in Nov, I do like it there. However, I don't know what the future holds, and would love the reassurance of the 11 month window at my new favorite resort. So much, I have given thought to dumping my other contracts and going for the same # of points at OKW. The #'s wouldn't crunch, so I guess I will live the next 40 years or so of my life at a 7 month window.

One thing for sure, all add ons will be at OKW!

If you're going to be doing 2BRs, I agree with Rozzie: I'd buy OKW. I wouldn't want to risk it.

You've been getting some great advice here. But don't you think that if you buy OKW now with the shorter contracts that either resales in the future with longer contracts or new DVCs will tempt you to add on at some point? Then you'd have the best of both worlds! :goodvibes

One of the few times it pays to be not-so-young. If I bought at SSR I'd be 100 when the contract expired.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the more DVC expands, the more people you're competing with at the 7 mos. window. Personally, we own at SSR at would be happy to stay there anytime, but I understand OKW's appeal. Unless you feel you would be just as happy at SSR, I'd buy where I wanted to stay. It's better to spend fewer years where you want to be rather than have more years where you're not as happy.

I own at OKW and it is still one of my favorites....

SSR is just a little to up scale for my taste. I don't like BWV either. (despite owning there)

you could always trade points with a OKW owner. Especially if you want that GV.

OKW has more 2-bedrooms than anything. So I won't expect you to have a problem with a 2-bedroom. Now 1-bedroom and studios is a different matter. but OKW has plenty of 2-bedroom.... HH has a tons of 2-bedrooms...

while your children are little I would always ask for a dedicated 2-bedroom.

you have 3 childrens already and a new one is on the way - boy you are a very, very brave person....:blueflowe

I think you are fine to purchase SSR with the current vacation plans.

But do you really think those vacation patterns won't change throughout the next 10 years? 20 years? 30 years? Kids will go to school and you may not be going in the off season all the time.

If you buy at SSR with the intention of never staying there, IMHO, that is a mistake.

If you buy at SSR and want to stay elsewhere but will be happy if only SSR is available (not just "accepting it", but actually happy), then SSR is probably a good choice.

I'm with Granny here. I'm not so much in the "buy where you want to stay" camp as the "DON'T buy where you DON'T want to stay" camp.

We bought at SSR having never set foot on ANY DVC property. SSR had the best value because it was entirely a financial decision for us. But we know we can be happy at just about ANY Disney resort--not everyone can.

Don't make too much of the extra 12 years. 2042 is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time from now.

Just my two cents.

I bought into SSR in 2005, Just loved the whole idea of DVC I will most likely always be getting atleast a 2 bdr or grand cause we love to take extended family with us. We stayed in the BWV last summer and will be this July. Our favorite is the BWV and would stay there everytime, but that might be hard as the rest of SSR sells. If i knew back then what I know now it would still be a tough choice to buy SSR or BWV on resale, cause i will be 74 when my current contract is up compared to 62 for BWV, so for me that makes it a tough choice, but I do agree with the posts for buying into your favorite resort.

I purchased in Aug at SSR. I have yet to go there. I called in Nov to make Feb res. and had no problem getting a room (it was a 1br for 5 of us). I called in June to get res for BW for the last week in Aug. and had no prob getting it. Then decided we'd like to try VWL and had no prob. Since we're young enough we prefer the longer contract and we aren't really picky so it was a good choice for us. Hey I look at it as a positive thing I get to go onsite all the time & thats good enough for me:yes:
