This was a short weekend trip for my 2 Star Wars maniacs (DH-38 and DS-6) and myself (younger than DH LOL) and our DD-2 who is definately torturing us all through the terrible twos. :howudoin:

Friday May 19:

After FINALLY finishing packing about 20 minutes before we had to leave, we went and picked up DS from school! Got to the airport fairly early, had lunch in the small fast food court. So far everything is going smoothly....so far!

Announcement comes over the PA system that our flight is delayed for 30 minutes. Alright, 30 minutes, not too bad. We're sitting in the pre-board line with this obnoxious family behind us on line (Man, I really hope they don't visit this site! :scary: ) Another announcement, flight delayed another 30 minutes...both my kids are still being pretty well behaved. The guy behind us starts throwing ice cubes at people while waiting :idontgeti Then we get another announcement stating that there is a problem with one of the gauges on the plane and the mechanics who need to fix it JUST landed from Baltimore! Great...not only are we delayed but now there is problems with the plane??!!

2 hours after the original departure time, they board the plane. They tell everyone to go as quickly as possible so the plane can get moving. After everyone is on the plane, we wait another 30 minutes! DD is already getting antsy at this point. I warned the woman who sat down next to me that I didn't think things would be going well and she smiled, told me she had kids of her own and was fine.

I won't go into the details of the flight, since I promised not to relive it after posting in the Nothing Thread LOL. Let me just add that while we were waiting for the 2 1/2 hours....the normal flying time!....DD was very well behaved.

Finally get to Orlando airport much later than we expected, our 1 suitcase we checked was the last one off the plane...of course :faint: We get to the Emerald Aisle to get our car...2 cars...1 filthy, scratched up white full-size car and a humongous SUV (and I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee, this thing was gigantic to me!). We took the white car, had a rude CSR check us out and we finally were on our way.

Ok, I have to admit, at this point I was pretty cranky myself! We finally get to POR to check in. The guard at the gate actually said "Welcome Home" to us, which we thought was pretty funny! We hardly ever get a welcome home at BCV but got one at POR.

As the CM was entering my info, I asked if it was a non-smoking room. She said yes. I said something along the lines of "Thanks, that's good, we've been having a lot of bad luck so far this trip already". Rather than just let it go, she feels she has to add, kind of rudely, "Well then I guess your luck is getting better because we DO NOT guarantee non-smoking for ANY reason!" I have on all my ressies guaranteed nonsmoking-medical b/c of my asthma and I think she saw it in the notes. Had I not received a non-smoking room at that point, I would have lost it and really been ranting. I know the Official policy but I could have played ignorant and made a big deal since my reservation confirmation did have in all caps GUARANTEED NON-SMOKING/MEDICAL. Deep Breaths..let it go! She gives me the room number and it's 1513...oh how appropriate LOL

Finally get to the room, great location right near the main building, nice decor in Alligator Bayou section. We didn't have the pack & play we requested but a quick call to the front desk and it appeared in about 10 minutes. It's already after 7PM, but we promised kids for weeks before that after eating a quick dinner we would go in the pool the first night. Got our suits on, went to the snack bar for dinner and head over to the main pool after a quick stop to play with the ducks. We notice right away the slide is already shut down so we decide to go to our quiet pool instead.

Having had a trying day, I mentioned to DH that a frozen margarita would be awesome right now. We stop at the pool bar before heading to the quiet pool. DS says rather loudly in this real pathetic sad voice "Oh no, not another beer! Daddy you just had one a few minutes ago with dinner!" The guy standing in front of us laughed as I'm thinking great we sound like raging alcoholics that can't even control ourselves on a family vacations. :faint: But I was able to find it funny...eventually! The man yells back as he's leaving "Get two!!"

Swam for about 45 minutes in the queit pool with the kids and headed back to the room. Everyone gets ready for bed thinking that tomorrow will be a better day. BUT not so fast! DS starts wimpering in his sleep about 11:30. DH wakes him up and he tells us that his ears are really hurting bad. Gift SHop of course is already closed. After trying a few simple things, I sent DH to the Main Desk. On a previous trip to BCV, DS got sick and I remembered that the CM's can get into the store to get medication. DH did come back with Ear drops and childrens tylenol which worked great.

DH also had to mention that they were having a Jimmy Buffet sing-a-long in the lounge area! I offered to go for 30 minutes and come back and then he could go but he wouldn't go for it. I think he was afraid I wouldn't come back!

:hahahaha: Dontcha just love when kids say things like that in front of other people? lol

We had to call for a pack and play too, even though it was on our ressie. I was told by the front desk people when I called for it that they don't automatically put one in the room, even if it is on your ressie. Sorta silly, but if they are using room ready, I suppose it makes sense. So why don't they call when you check in and have the housekeeping people meet you there with it??? A little basic customer service blip to those of us traveling with a sleepy/sleeping child.
