thanks

My 4yo son has been on Soarin twice and loved it. My wife has severe motion sickness on simulator rides (suffice it to say that Star Tours had a profound impact on our honeymoon) and she had no problems either.
The actual motion is barely perceptible. The rig sways slightly to add some physical interaction with the filmed landscape. I would think the ride would be more discomfiting to someone with a fear of heights than someone prone to motion sickness.

As someone with a fear of heights, I would agree with tjkraz. I still liked Soarin' the first time I rode it, although it made me nervous, but then I rode it twice more and loved it. The movement is only enough to make you feel as though you are moving - it's very gentle. My daughter (4) was very nervous, to the point of scared on it, but mostly from the height, and I told her to close her eyes, and then it hardly feels like you're moving at all (because you aren't moving very much). My six-turning-seven daughter thought it was awesome.

No motion sickness here. DS 4 went on it and was fine. It is a very gentle move, like gliding. And as for heights you can't tell unless you really look at where you are at in respect to the ground. At least in the 2nd row where we were.
Its a great ride!

It's an amazing ride. I had a slight feeling of being dizzy during only one small part of the flight. But that was it.

My daughters, 15 and 20 and I all had different experiences:
15 year old-- loves all thrill rides and never has motion sickness--no problem at all.
Me-Not a fan of big drops ala roller coasters, (but like Test Track and don't mind heights)--experienced a little dizziness the first 2 times, nothing dramatic. Not nausea at all. After I got used to the feeling, by the 3rd time, I was fine.
20 year old-not a thrill ride person Period. Prone to motion sickness. Felt dizzy and slightly nauseous both times and will not ride it any more.

We have riden it several times.
I least like the bottom row.
I don't know if it is that fact that you can see the outer edges of the screen or what, but I tend to geta little lightheaded if we are in the lowest row.

Kathyseb, I had the same reaction on the top row, but I was in the end seat. I think the screen is pretty distorted so far to the side. If I looked consistently to my left on the screen, I was fine, but I felt pretty odd if I looked straight ahead, or to the right towards the side of the screen. Strangely, I didn't feel any higher up on the top row, maybe because you couldn't see any feet over your head to remind you how high you were. On the bottom row, I was in the middle, and had no problem, except that I kept picking up my feet in the water scenes, thinking they would get wet :) .

jnrrt,
I do the complete opposite. I am stretching my toes down as far as they can reach to get them wet. :goodvibes :goodvibes
For me it does not matter if I am on the end or in the middle, if I am on the bottom row, I feel uneasy.
But the ride is worth it in my opinion.

Me and the kids have ridden it (starting in DL in CA) since they were about 4 and it's truly our favorite ride in the parks! I'm very prone to motion sickness and have never had any problems on this on. My kids can also be chickens about some rides, and they have never been a bit scared of this. It's one of Disney's best!

Thanks for the post - I think my DS#1 (6 yrs old) will do fine - I will give him all the chance to opt out if he sees the ride and does not like what he sees (we did this with Stitch AE - we went to a certain point and then he asked to leave which was fine with me)
Cheers

I take Ginger tablets buy in the vitamin section, they are harmless, like drinking ginger ale. I take four when i fly and go to the parks first thing in the morning. I road the soaring and i was fine up to the very end , i was just alittle nassuas, but went away with a little something to eat and sprite/7up.
