That is a wonderful documentary!
I had the high honor of meeting Ollie just a year ago.
I just dug up a couple photos I thought some might enjoy
The occassion was an award to Ollie for his lifetime's work in preserving the Walt Disney Railroad.
Ollie take the throtle of the Marie B and makes a couple of laps around DL

Behind Ollie is Gary Oakland, John Lasseter, Mike Broggie (Roger's son) and Mike Campbell from the Disney Family Foundation

A remarkable man. :)

Pluzzzeee--my suit of armor is at the cleaners! :D
The foundation wanted to give Ollie this tribute-in fact, the locomotive was one Ollie (who is/was a HUGE RR fan) purchased himself and restored and ran at his ranch (much like Ward Kimball did). Big J & the Foundation were able to pirate way the ironhorse and have it completely restored--and brought to DL as a surprise for Ollie. We gathered veerrryyyy early in the morning and the festivities took place prior to opening that day.

Sorry to be so long in getting back to you Laura -- but yes, Ollie is a remarkable person. While speaking with him about animation, his trademark became extremely evident. He looks at "characters" much like a dipolmat would see people in a room meeting and interacting for the first time.
His preceptiveness is unique and enables him to quickly pick up on the dynamics between those on 'the stage' before him -- with amazing detail and understanding.
I'm lead to understand that of all the "nine old men" this trait was uniquely Ollies.
He absolutely still has that trait--and a wonderful sense of humor, and child-like awe of his surroundings! :)

You have to purchase it. I'm sure amazon and others stock it--and it is sold at WDW parks & DTD. Well worth the price!
editied to add: daaaaa -- it's also mostly likely avaliable as a free rental at many DVC community halls (but I'm not 100% on that)..
not trying to ne nosy, DVCconvert....just trying to keep up with the plot...are you one of the folks in to photo?
thanks,

LOL! No 'plot' intended John!
Nope--I'm not pictured in these photos.
(which is a good thing, as the camera they were using would have thrown itself onto the RR tracks! :D )
damn.....so i guess that means you're not really John Lassetter?????

naaah...I have always thought of the convert as a young Sean Connery...but with Mickey ears! :hahahaha:

Gee....I'm not sure that parallel will work Jiggerj.
While it's true I am often "stirred"
....I'm rarely "shaken"!

Now that you bring this up,
I wonder if it is available at VWL?? I posted the following question on some other board and did not get any replies:
I recently visited BWV and was STUNNED at the DVD/video collection. It was fabulous. The one at VWL is just sad. I asked the gal at BWV why there is such a big difference and she said that it is not a DVC thing it is a hotel thing. So, who would I whine to about the collection at VWL? I wonder if they are waiting to get DVD players and then improve it?
Back to the original thread.... I will check it out when we go to VWL this Dec.
Thank you! :kickingco

I'd suggest writing to Member services, and another letter to Guest Relations wouldn't hurt either. If enough feedback is recieved, the issue will be addressed.

I might have to order that DVD. I love seeing pics of Ollie Johnston. He looks so much like my grandfather who passed away many years ago.
