Buying resale is a great way to save money but you need to be patient. The wait can drive you nuts. If you buy directly through Disney you usually get into the system with in 24 hours. Based upon my experience this is what happens:

When you buy resale you need to find the perfect contract, come up to an agreed upon price, then a contract is written. You will then need to send in the escrow deposit along with the deposit and then it goes to Disney for ROFR. Disney has 30 days to make a decision. If it passes the contract is finanlized and full payment is made. The contract then goes to the estoppal department which could take up to two weeks. Once it is confirmed that the details of the contract are correct it goes to be entered into the Disney computer system. It could take as much as 2 weeks to get into ther sysytem. Once it is in the system I could take several days until the points are loaded so that you can book a vaction. So my advice is that a resale is a great way to go to save money but you need to plan ahead. The whole process could take up to 2 months. Good luck. I have been down this road 4 times in the past six months. You think I would be patient but everyday I am hoping that this is the day I make it one step closer.

We bought our first contract through resale last year (June). It did work out very well for us, 300 points at OKW for $73/point. There were no current points available, and nothing was banked, but we did get all 300 points on August 1st. Since DH and I already had a trip planned for October, as soon as we cleared the system and the points were available for use, we rebooked as much of our vacation as we could through DVC.

However when we added on (60 points at VWL) it was more advantageous to go directly through DVC. DVC seemed to be buying up all the smaller contracts. And we were on a waitlist through The TimeShare Store, but nothing was coming up. I did some research and found that since we would have to pay closing costs, it was actually cheaper to buy direct from Disney. We got the points right away, and we have the same Use Year.

I agree that for a larger contract resale is a good deal, but not necessarily so for a smaller add-on. You would have to do your own analysis to see which option works better for your situation.

Best of luck on your resale purchase, Plutofan2. Have some Pixie Dust :tinker:

I ended up buying ressale for my first two contracts, by accident.

We went down in 2002 for a family get-together, and toured the SSR models and were very impressed. (I had actually stumbled on another DVC related board in 2000, and started getting interested, but then forgot about it - wish I had remembered could have save some serious bucks!)

Like most people who post on these boards, before this tour I had a very negative perception of the timeshare industry.

Anyway, we were told 3 days after the tour, the special SSR incentive would expire. It was either $84.00 pp with a $5.00 magical beginnigns credit (keeping my current points), or $79.00 pp with the same $5.00 credit, I just don't remember.

We called the Monday following our return (the 4th day), and no matter how I begged, or pleaded my DVC-Guide said she could not honor the deal, as it was the 4th day. Her supervisor also would not 'extend' the deal, even though I said, fine I'll go buy resale. to no avail)

I had done a lot of reading about resale, and contacted several resellers, and was thrilled with the response from The Time Share Store. Jason has been my 'salesman' ever since, and those who know me, know how highly I regard both Jason, and now Tom, the owner of TTS!.

I bought my first resale, 400 OKW points with 240 banked, and all current. The process seemed longer than it really was, and was very fast.

Gotta go to breakfast, will post more later, if anyone is still interested.

Well, Tony is our king of resale purchaes, but I will chime in that I was highly satisfied with TSS and the process. I did some research, then called with my desired contract and added my name to the list. Within 48 hours my ideal contract became available and the process was relatively painless from then on. Even the wait wasn't too long to pass ROFR.

I was also impressed with TSS - when Pat was out with an injury, her daughter took over her files rather than keep clients waiting. They are highly professional and I would never hesitate to recommend Tom and his crew.

I've had my name on the list for awhile for another small contract, but those go quickly, so I may end up adding on through Disney directly. Since there is no rush on my end, I'll play it out over the next few weeks and decide which route to go before the DVC price increase rumoured for July 1st.

 would love to hear more!

My experience with resale was not as favorable as others- ONLY because of the outcome- Disney bought back the contract I had my heart set on- I did not go thru Tom or Shontell (wish that I did but I didn't know any better then) After 30 days I finally had the phone call I was starting to suspect- I was HEARTBROKEN!

With the support of some of my online friends (you know who you are! ;)) they sympathized and encouraged me to buy direct or to try again-

I went for purchasing direct- The process was easier for me as I am not a patient woman. I was able to purchase direct at $86pp with the previous years points as well. I was very happy (still am)-

Im not saying I would never go resale- and now that I have my foot in the door, so to speak, my patience might go a little longer AND depending the circumstances the price might be just right-

Good luck and hang in there! :dust:

Ummm... I'm genuinely confused: What started this thread? Was there some question somewhere regarding buying resale? It "feels" like this thread should be merged into another one.... :veryconfu

Or are you just sort of pondering the whole experience of buying resale in the original post, Plutofan2?

If this was a response to a specific question posted by someone, I'd like to merge the threads!! So please give me a heads-up!! Thanks! :)

I was under the impression that Plutofan just wanted to share the frustration of waiting out the resale process. Sort of expressing thoughts out loud.

I just wanted people to understand the process. You can save a lot of money. I have been very active on the boards and highly recommend resale but I have seen so many people not realize that resale is a long process. I hate seeing people disappointed when they can not book their first DVC vacation in time because their contract has not been copmpleted. I just wanted to start some decision that would be helpful to people so that they can plan ahead. There is a lot of great information on the internet, especially this board, so start this process early so you can enjoy your first DVC vacation. I actually have been down this road five times and hope to do it one more time when I find the right contract.

Ah, gotcha! It just sounded like you were answering someone's question in another thread (and given the way some things go OT, it really could be any thread in any forum!), and if so, I wanted to make sure that whoever was asking the question actually noticed/got the answer! Thanks for the clarification! :)
