Well I can never top CB's report, so I won't try. She already described the wonderful Maragarita Party at Jigger's and the great night at Jellyrolls she and I spent with Pam. So I am just going to tell you about 2unique aspects of my trip, and then I'll link you up to my photos so you can see for yourself what I did.

First: I had lunch with an imagineer on Wednesday, 5/3. I was really excited about this, as I had heard only really great things about it. Well, unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The lunch takes place in a private room at the Brown Derby. The room was lovely, no complaints there. There were 7 other people at the luncheon, all very friendly. The imagineer came in, her name was Pam Rawlins. She welcomed us and told us a bit about herself. Biggest letdown to me was she was not (at least in my mind) an imagineer. She supervises imagineers and their projects, but she herself is not a creative talent. I honestly can't think of one thing she said that was interesting, much less awesome. She really had the "suit" mentality of "I can't answer that" to many of our questions. All she discussed I have read elsewhere. In fact I knew a number of things she didn't, including the info about Mission Space possibly having the option of a no g-force ride. When we talked about Hidden Mickeys she stated flatly "They are never built into the rides". When I mentioned a number of Mickeys (ie the one in the french horn in Philharmagic) she said I was imagining them!! Ugh, I really didn't like her. She seemed more interested in telling us how she moved up in the company then sharing any inside or behind the scenes info.

The food was fabulous, with a yummy creme brulee desserr, and actually the other people at the table were very interesting, including two BWV DVC people. So it wasn't a total loss. They give you a very cool looking oversized plate with sorcerer Mickey that says I dined with an Imagineer (which Pam signed, but I wish she didn't LOL). Oh and we all got cute WDW nametags. I would do this again if I knew I would get a different imagineer, but as there is no guarantee who you get I doubt I will try again any time too soon.

Second: This is my highlight, although if you don't know or like Off Kilter (OK) it will mean nothing to you. As everyone here who reads my posts knows, I am a big Off Kilter fan. They are a celtic rock band who dress in kilts and play on the stage next to the Canadian Pavilion in Epcot. I have seen them so many times they recognize me, and I've posed for a few group shots with them (see my avatar). They are superb musicians as well as very funny and nice guys, always waving and smiling to the crowd and willing to pose for photos or sign cds after their shows. My favorite OK member is the bass player, Mark, as he's got a fabulous voice. The notes he can hit are awesome, to hear him sing Danny Boy (or anything else) is music to my ears (pun intended!). He's also a cutie. Married, but still, I can look, can't I? :) Anyhow I read that in the evenings he sits in with a band at Raglan Rd (RR)in DTD. I was really curious to see him with another band, and to see what he looked like in normal clothes instead of a kilt. After the first OK show on Sunday I asked him when he'd be at RR that week. He told me Weds and Thurs. Weds was Jellyrolls night with Pam and Linda (aka matysgranma and colorado belle. Boy did I love that, it's a must do for me from now on), so on Thursday night I hopped on the bus to DTD. Had a 10:30 ressie at RR, as I knew he didn't get onstage until about then. I arrived and it turned out I didn't need the ressie, the place was really slow that night. They told me to sit where I wanted to, so I took a seat at a table rightin front of the stage. The band was playing traditional Irish music, Mark had not arrived yet. A few minutes later I saw him walk in. I ordered dinner (btw I loved the food there) and waited. He joined the band after about 10 minutes and when he saw me smiled and waved hi. He had on jeans and a tshirt, it was so different than the OK costume, it was neat to see him in regular clothing after all these years. (nothing against kilts, but imho men look more like men in pants). The band was fine, but not as good as OK. OK has played together for many years and sound so tight. These guys were fine, but a bit sloppier, and I didn't care that much for the lead singer. Mark is the lead for OK, but he only plays bass with the RR band. Anyway they did one set and much to my happy surprise Mark came to my table and spent his entire break with me. I was so flustered, but I hope it didn't show. Hanging out with Mark was the equivalent to me of hanging out with Bruce Springsteen, I am such a fan! When it was time to go back onstage he said "I'll come back next break" and sure enough he did. So I got to hang out with his Markness twice in one night, woohoo! By then it was 1AM and my friend was going to visit me the next day early, so when he got up to do the next set I said I had to be going. But could he please take a pic with me first? He was happy to oblige, and here are we are!:

(Yeah he's tall! I am 5'6''. Mark is 6'6'')

I take way too many photos(, believe it or not I edited out many), but here is a link to the shots I took this trip if anyone wants to check em out. The guy at the begining is Gary Puckett, who I thought did a great job. And somewhere in there are shots of the Margarita party and the great view from Jigger's balcony:

It was so great to meet all the mouseowners at Jigger's and to be one of the Boardwalk Babes. Thanks for a memorable trip everyone!

That must have been so exciting for you! Sounds like you had a lot of fun at RR...hope it more than made up for the lackluster "animator". The pics are great. Thanks for sharing them!

Great report mar! It must have been such a thrill to really meet Mark- Great pic of the 2 of you together too! :loveisint

I know how excited you were for your luncheon- What a bummer! Is there a way to find out "who" the imagineer is prior to making a ressie for it? I was (still am) interested in this for Oct. with my step-dad- But he, like you, would be most interested in meeting the creative side not the suits-

Great report and pics!!!! :)

Hey, Mar' great pics:yes:
How cool to get to hang out w/Mark, he is such a cutie!
Can't wait to see OK in Oct. and to see them w/you next year!:jumpingbe
That is so weird about the luncheon, I would so not think they would have a ''suit ''type of person doing this. How disappointing.
Glad the rest of the trip went very well:yes:

I can't wait to enjoy some OK shows with you either Athenna! :tunes: :highfive:

And yeah, it was surprising to me too that the person they sent was so subdued. I was much more taken with the cm who led the Keys to the Kingdom Tour I was a part of. Full of stories, knowledge, and so spirited--but not in a fake cloying way. Oh well, win a few lose a few I guess. It certainly didn't ruin my trip, as Stimpy and Ginger pointed out, Raglan Road more than made up for it. :D (Yep Nono it was way cool!)

How busy was RR? Would I need ADR's for sure to go there sometime for dinner, drinks and the entertainment? I think this is something Scott would really like, but being a ''newbie'' he didn't want too many ADR's, I didn't want to overwhelm him.
Like say, on a weekday night if we wanted to go in about 10-ish.

Thanks for the report, from someone who loves OK as much as we do!

Mark is also my favorite OK singer. But really they are such a matched set, they all fit together so well. It was fun runnng into you at that one concert, but I have a feeling that had we gone more often (I think we only caught 3 this time) we would have seen you more often!

I will have to show Chuck the picture of Mark with pants on!!!! And I wonder if we will follow him over to RR???

Athenna, I went to RR on a Thursday at 10:30 and it was virtually empty. I had PS but they told me to go right in, no need for a reservation. Mark did say that sometimes the place is packed, but I am not sure what determines crowds there.

Muushka it was great running into you at the OK stage, and yep, I did go to a lot of shows. All five on Sunday, 4 on Monday, and the final 3 shows of the day on Tues, Weds and Thurs.

I agree, OK is way more than the sum of it's individual parts. They play off of each other so well, like a well oiled machine. While I enjoyed seeing Mark in a different venue just for the change, I wasn't really impressed with the band. They were adequate, but nothing they did made me want to stand up and cheer. Mark was having some allergy problems and his voice wasn't the best, so he didn't sing at all that night. I thought the lead singer had a pretty weak and bland voice. Not out of key, just nothing special. You know how Mark can belt 'em out, this guy was not near his league.

So I wouldn't encourage you to go for the band, but it's interesting to see Mark doing something different and the food was reasonable, unique and really good. There's an Irish step dancer that comes out now and then if that sort of thing interests you. The first set they actually did some tunes Off Kilter does, but the traditional Irish way. Whiskey in the Jar, Wild Rover, and at least one more that escapes me at the moment. The second set mixed it up a little more, a combo of traditional Irish songs and some 70s and 80s music.

It would have been fun to catch more OK shows with you, maybe another time!

Mar,

Thanks for the great report. I've been out of town all week and when I got home tonight and signed onto the boards, first place I checked was here to see if you had posted a report.

Will check out the link to your pics tomorrow.

Sorry about the lunch. When we did it, it was the highlight of our trip. We had Jim, who had pretty much designed the majority of AK and was involved in the TOT random drops.

GREAT picture. I bet that one is framed on your desk.
You will need to take it back and have him autograph it for you.

It's my desktop wallpaper Kathy, LOL!

I couldn't resist, I sent a copy to Sam, the man I am in love with who I went to WDW with in January. He started a new job and couldn't get away this time, but I had to send the picture to him to rub it in a little bit, LOL.

Somehow, that does not surprise me!

I would still print a copy of it and have Mark autograph it.

Oh Mar'! What a awesome night for you!! :bouncingp We are going to check out RR this trip, I'll take some more pics for you. I so know what you mean about "tightness" in a band. Our beloved bluegrass band that played at our wedding broke up, and we see the scattered members in other venues, but it is NEVER the same chemistry as when they all played together. I bet you have so many wonderful memories of that night however! Mark sounds like such a down to earth likable guy. Makes me love OK more!!!

And your slide show, well I am not ashamed to say that the slideshow brought tears to my cheeks! Been such a hard week, and it seems that you took a picture of everything I love. Thanks for bringing extra magic to my morning coffee!!

The imagineer lunch! What a drag. Do you think maybe a REAL imagineer cancelled at the last minute, and they dragged this snooze out of a planning committee? You handled it with much more grace than me, I probably would have been bounced out of the lunch, arguing with her about all the hidden mickeys on rides? What about Splash? What about HM? What about PoC? This chick was clueless. I so agree with you on rather have a CM from the parks. One of my favorite parts of the trips is talking to the CMs!

Thanks again for the TR, I can't wait till' we get to share a OK show! Thanks for sharing such wonderful memories!!!!!!!

Aww Rozzie, I am so glad you enjoyed the photos I took. I get the feeling from the chats we have had and your posts that I've read that we are going to get along famously when we meet, we do seem to have a lot in common. Especially OK!! Hopefully we will get a bunch of Mouseowners to rendezvous at at least one OK show in 12/07, it seems many of us are fans. (athenna, muushka, matysgranma come to mind). But it'd be great to share as many as possible, I'll be at my usual plethora of shows, I hope you join me more than once.

I DID start to argue with that boorish "imagineer", but I realized it was just going to make the luncheon uncomfortable so after a few statements like yours (what about the mickey in slate just as you enter the poly? What about the HUGE one that is a sand trap at the eagle pines gold course? What about the mickeys POINTED OUT by the cm on Keys to the Kingdom tours?) I just shut up and tried to be gracious. :tapedshut Now if we were there together, maybe we could have taken that you-know-what down!! :highfive:

Loved the pics, Mar.

I'm still sad about your lunch...and I really think you need to write a letter to GG about your experience. If they don't know about the problems...they can't fix them. Perhaps you could suggest that, at the very least, the 'imagineer'
s position in the company be revealed prior to 'purchase'. The address for such an email is: wdw.Guestcommunications@disneyworld.com. Include your phone number.

I certainly thought about doing this, but I have a problem. I do hope to work at WDW someday. The woman they sent for the luncheon was pretty high up there in the chain of command. I did discuss my desire to be a CM someday at the luncheon. I am probably just being paranoid, but what if they show her the letter? And what if I get on some "Whatever you do NEVER hire this woman" list. So I decided to let it go for the sake of the bigger picture.

Thanks for the trip report. DD and I were fortunate enough to have "Lunch with an Animator" at the Brown Derby when they still had animators at MGM. I can see how the Disney person could make or break the lunch. The chef was great and talked about our food choices, and we had Broose Johnson who animated Genie and one of the Moose in Brother Bear. DD (my art major) enjoyed it quite a bit, but we were there with Al Feldstein (or was it Feldman?)-- editor of Mad Magazine and he got quite a bit of attention.

I think I'm going to try the Lunch with a Disney Animal Specialist at Jiko with DD on her January Graduation trip. She's also an Animal Planet freak. :hahahaha:

I'm glad you had such special interaction with Mark. I've always been impressed with how gracious OK is with folks taking pictures.

Oh Mar, that is paranoia....I think Disney has 50,000 employees???? And your writing to express dissatisfaction with a lunch with an imagineer because the 'imagineer' wasn't an imagineer would get you X'd from a future job ????

Of course, I'm not recommending that you wirte a crazy letter....only one that woudl point out your disappointment with Disney choosing a manager as representative of an Imagineer. Of course, If there is a poop list, then my recent complaints about my BWV room will surely have me on it!:headbange

LOL Rozzie, that would be a really cool job to be OK's stage manager! But I'll settle for something in the education department, as that's my backround. I'd love to be a trainer at WDW!

dgaston I am so glad you had a great time with the aniimator. And for sure, whoever they send to the luncheon makes or breaks it. The woman I had kept saying "Ask me anything at all" and then when we did it seems 75% of the time she "couldn't reveal that". And she had very little stories to share on her own. She was involved in supervising some projects in AK, but there was nothing she discussed that was particularly interesting. As I posted earlier, most of her "anecdotes" were stories I have read elsewhere. What a letdown! Thanks for sharing my happiness at hanging out with Mark from OK. Agreed, those guys are very gracious with the guests. Although I'd like to think Mark hung out with me because he thought I was hot :D the truth is that he'd more than likely sit with any fan that came to see him.

CB I see your point, I probably am being paranoid. But I don't think it's impossible that this Imagineer would get testy if they showed her my letter, and consequently put me on a "do not hire" list. I made it very clear at the luncheon that I was interested in working there someday, and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my chances, far fetched though that may be. She struck me as the kind of woman who would hold a grudge.

And John, what sweet comments! It was really nice meeting you too, and I am glad you were "brave" enough to come to meet all us crazy BW Babes  and the other Mouseowners. :grouphug:

I am really glad I got to meet you and I hope to see you again someday at the OK stage.
