Ok, I posted this on the other board but would like all of your insights too.
First off I know this isn't the "best" use of our points but one of the things we liked about the points was the flexibility to stay at other non DVC resorts on property. Since I have a quirk where I want to stay at every Disney owned resort on property this is great.
So next year I am thinking GF or Cont Tower. I honestly would like to knock out GF, Cont, AKL and Poly the next 4 trips because I know I am going to be totally spoiled with the one bdrm villa that I won't want to go back to a standard hotel room after this. So why not get those std rooms out of the way, knock out some of the deluxe resorts while I am at it and for "free" (so to speak).
So I am thinking GF or Cont Tower. Right now leaning more towards GF because if the rumor holds ture about Cont going to DVC I will kick myself for wasting the points ya know?
So which would you pick and why?
Also if you chose GF would you go Lagoon or Garden and why?
Thanks!

Will you have a car ? Self park at GF is hiddious. Walking into MK from Cont is still the fastest way to & from MK. Cont may become DVC, but not the tower. IMO, a stay at the Cont has to be tower,MK view. Otherwise it's just another resort.
Personally, I'd go Tower.

Yes we will have a car.
A couple of reasons why I am leaning towards GF (and let me know your opinions still)
GF - Always always wanted to stay there.
- I will be banking a decent amount of points into next year - 46
- With this extra banking (that after this year I doubt I will have) I can stay Lagoon view which will take 240 and I will have 266 for next year
- Cont Tower is a little less expensive in points so figure I would do the larger point resort while I had them
- Will kick myself if Cont goes to DVC, although I know this is just a rumor.
Things that don't make a difference to me either way
- The walk or whatever from Cont to MK.
- The vehicle, once we park we are done with it
I don't know, I am really torn.
I need help (in more ways than one :upsidedow )

Are you staying enough nights to consider a split stay?
With the CR Tower do you care whether you get Lagoon/MK view or Bay Lake view?
Do you intend to use/care about the Spa at the GF?
Do you intend to use/care about the Sports Centre at the CR?
Cheers

N.B. Not sure but thinking that if you stay on points that your Valet parking fees (but not tips) are included....???

Ok, we plan on staying 5 nights. So not really long enough to split it, hubby thinks it is a hassle to move.
5 nights Lagoon view would cost us 240 at GF
5 nights Tower would cost us 200.
5 nights Garden view would cost us 200 at GF
We have 220 points a year coming to us. And with banking 46 we can do a Lagoon view at GF. Another reason why I asked would you go with Garden or Lagoon at GF, because if it doesn't really matter then we could put GF on hold.
I really want to be able to have a view of the MK or castle. Aside from our first trip home in a month (which actually is a fluke and a lot of pixie dust :dust being able to secure a 1bdrm villa the week after Thanksgiving on such short notice) we have never been deluxe before and I would really love to have a view of the castle/MK as it would be awesome.
Unsure about the spa at GF, maybe a treatment would be nice, I could work it into the budget.
Not sure what the sports centre is, I assume a fitness room and maybe we would get us out of it, maybe not, not a huge deal for us.

It's fairly certain the North Wing will be converted to DVC, but again, the Tower will remain a seperate entity, so wether or not DVC actually does take over the NW it should have no bearing on your decision to stay in the Tower.
jsue mentioned the Sports Center at Cont: Didn't they just close that ? Moving the tennis center to GF.
Have kids ? They'd probably enjoy Cont more then GF ..... know I would.
If car use & ease of getting into MK are not an issue then I'm kinda outta reasons for staying at one as opposed to the other.

Okay, I'm flipping the coin. You want to call it or shall I. Heads GF, Butts Cont.......

Hmmm tough call. We just used 80 plus holding points for a night in 2 rooms at the Contemporay. We got Magic Kingdon view. The rooms were very large, and the view was pretty neat, although IMO it is more of a parking lot view than MK view.... Still neat to watch the fireworks from our balcony.
If there is a DVC at the Contemporary you will no longer be able to use points to stay in the Tower... just like at BC and BWI revoked point priveledges once their DVC sisters opened up. Soooooooooo this could be your last chance to stay in the TOWER at CR.....
Your point reasoning is a good one for the GF....
Planning is close to the best part! :beaniepro

My advice:
OK, Take the CR Tower - risk is you get Bay Lake Side instead of MK/Lagoon view
If you are risk adverse then take the GF Lagoon view (not as high up but gtd lagoon view)

UGH!! You are killing me here!!! But good point about maybe not being able to stay in the Tower. That was one of the reasons I thought I would wait because if they did I thought I could for less points. Geeze, now this made it that much harder! Crap!

We used points to stay at the BC before the Villas opened up... like a week or two before LOL... we did it because of the point option disappearing...
You want to stay at all the resorts dont you???? .... I would stay CR Tower this trip, and bank the extra points to 2007 and do GF then....
Of course that's putting a lot of faith on a rumor! LOL
But that's just me.

Very good point. I am playing with the point system. I will have 266 for 06. I would use 200 for Cont Tower, I could bank 66. Last year Lagoon GF was 46, this year 48 so based on that lets say it goes up to 50, then I would need 250 and would have 36 left over. That doesn't sound so bad.
I will probably go Cont Tower, yes it is putting faith on a rumor but I guess knowing that (I thought you could still stay on points in tower once it went to DVC) I would rather spend it then kick myself later and not be able to.
Thanks!

I have such a hard time giving up DVC accommodations, but if I was looking to tray ALL of the WDW resorts, I would do them one night at a time and try them for a weekend night before my DVC stay started. For example, stay at GF or CR for Friday or Saturday night, and then switch to your DVC resort. If it's only for a night, you just need to have one small bag with things in for that night, and the rest wont have to be unpacked until you get to the DVC resort.

I have such a hard time giving up DVC accommodations,
I know I will too, that is a given. I know I will be spoiled :) :)
This is why I plan on knocking these 4 non DVC deluxe resorts the next 4 trips. I can cross them off my list and not be so spoiled where I will feel :crowded: being in the room when I am used to a 1bdrm ;)
But thanks for the input. Being that if Cont does go DVC (I know putting faith on a rumor) I have decided to make my 2006 trip to Cont Tower.
Now if only I could get the weird dreams out of my head that are making me paranoid that my kids are going to fall off the balcony. :hammer:
Sometimes I think I have issues ;)

LOL, I don't think they have lost any kids over the rails in the past 30+ years, so I wouldn't worry too much about that!
