Wednesday, May 3:
Pam and I awoke early...today was our Segway tour! We were really looking forward to it, tho I think Pam might have been just a teeny bit worried. We enjoyed coffee and bagels on our QUIET balcony and then zipped over to Guest Relations where we signed away our lives/fortunes/first born to ride on the Segway. Our tour guide was really peppy and funny and he told us it was EASY. We headed to Innovations where we got fitted for helmuts and watched a quick movie. THen we were given our very own key and our very own Segway. I done broke mine when starting it (I had my foot resting on the footboard), so they had to roll out another one. Then we practiced rolling forward, backward, stopping and turning on a dime. (Liked those 360s!) .

First...if you do this, make sure you sign up for the longer tour; we saw some people who were just circling out in a little park area...they were on the hour long experience, and NONONO....did not look like fun at all. So, back to our group. We practiced indoors for about 10 minutes, up/down a ramp and then we were off, single file to ....the OUTSIDE. No one jumped in our way, which kinda surprised me. We loopd through the statue garden and then headed over to the then closed world showcase. We went through each country...and in short order we all felt like experts! We stopped for a photo shoot and while the CMs took pics we roamed free within the not-too-confining-cones. I have some video on photobucket, but I don't know how to link it here, so here is a photo:

There was a whole lot of freedom riding around...the CMs were there to make us feel safe, but they really wanted us to have fun most of all. I enjoyed it tremendously. My legs kinda hurt tho, so I had to balance on one while I bent, stretched, lifted the other. But the Segway really isnt' about balance like a bike....it is so much easier! THe idea of leaning back to stop was an alien concept to the skier in me...but when I thought of it as if it were a horse and I was pulling back hard on the reins yelling WHoa!, then it hit home. One rather timid lady ran into a wall and then kinda stepped off her Segway, but got right back on...none the worse for wear.

It was a great experience and I'd do it again in a skinny minute!!!

We were HONGRY after our exciting adventure, so we headed over to the Land and snarfed up a huge lunch. I had the ahi-salad and gingercarrot soup. YUM!
We wanted to save room for Le Cellier that night, so we did Soarin to work up an appetite. We also looked for hidden mickeys over at mission space and made some silly videos that were an awful lot of fun. And, we ran into Goofy, hiding behing the moon:

We went back to the room to change clothes and then walked over to the American Pavillion to see the Grassroots. The lead singer has kinda lost his voice, but he was funny in a drunken stupor kind of way. The lead guitarist still had his voice, tho they ran out of tunes in less than a half hour. Then we ran over to Off Kilter (wishing we had a Segway handy) to see a show (finally) with Mar. SHe is a NUT over these guys. They do put on a merry show and were a perfect prelude to dinner at Le Cellier. This was my first time, and after hearing all the raves, I was looking forward to it! It did not disappoint. In fact, we've already made ressies for our next trip!!! Pam and I finally had an opportunity to sit down with Mar and chat...and THEN we walked along the Boardwalk over to Jellyrolls. Mar had never been there before and she really wanted to go. I was there in December and loved the piano players and songs, hated the smoke...so I was leery. Mar graciously paid for us when the doorman said NO to credit cards or room charges...only cash. JEEZ (but thanks Mar...we owe ya)

The guys were ON that night and we had an awesome time. The highlight was, of course, Froggie's song (the Rainbows and lollipops one, not the its not easy being green one). We were all fairly tired, but no one wanted to leave. I think we stayed until midnight. On the way down the long corridor to our room Pam and I got to giggling, then laughing out loud. We knew we were being rude, but once we got started , neither of us could stop. And yes, tis true, I laughed so hard I peed my pants....oh the shame!:crymeariv .

The heroines fell asleep after their long day fighting the good fight. Tomorrow was our last full day...and we wanted an early start on it! Little did we know what danger lurked in the Living Seas!:hypnotict

LOL CB, what's so wrong with running into the wall, huh? Well I didn't run into a actual wall, it was more like the instructor. No kidding! Luckily she moves real fast:D

sounds like so much fun, Jellyrolls and all. I love reading your TR's! You are a hoot!!! Great pic of Pam also!

I'm really enjoying you report, CB!

And oh my gosh, I just realized that since my FIL is coming with us on our next trip, there's even a possibility that he would take our kids and let dh and I do this! I thought we'd be waiting years! So, how far in advance do you have to book it? I'm going to try and talk him into this tonight.

Pam will have to post how far in advance she made the ressie....But the best thing would be to call now and just ask what availability during your stay. Make sure you take the longer tour and get your DVC (or AP) discount! If you take the earlier tour (8:30), you have the advantage that the showcase isn't open for the entire of your tour and you might get to travel through all the worlds without company, BUT if you take the 9:30 tour, then grandpa and the kids could come watch you towards the end (and take photos!) .

I highly recommend this particular tour....it's a fun way to travel!):jumpingbe

This is a short video (4 secs) of the segway tour. If this works like it did on another site, you just click on the picture and it takes you to photobucket, you click there and voila! If this works, then I have a great one from inside the castle during Wishes!

Well, then, Pam and I were getting sooooooo good on our segways, that we decided to stop in Mexico for a few margaritas. I am posting the result below, but be forewarned, it isn't pretty!

Love the video clips. I thought the Segway was a blast, not quite as hard as I expected, but it still took concentration and focus. We liked it so much we did it twice in one week. On our tour we went up around the koi ponds in Japan. That was the toughest part for me, going down an incline and over the little bridges, etc.

Wouldn't you love to have a Segway to get from EPCOT to MGM or from OKW to DTD.

We had a few in our group wash out in Japan, but none worse for where.
Wow! Twice in one week...Rwe, I think we might have a hard time keeping up with YOU! But I want to do it again...and yep, wouldn't it be grand to have one of these for walking back and forth from Epcot to the BWV (and on to MGM)!

I think the funnest part was going through the countries...we are over 6 feet tall when we are on one of these things, and it lends a new perspective.

Which reminds me...on a crowded day in MK, I was walking side by side with Pam when I came up agains a 6'4 man who looked at me funny and then made a comment about HIS size and that HE was going THAT way (which was through me) and something about his being an immovable object . I was kinda shocked as I always move out of the way of smaller people, strollers and wheelchairs and expected he might do the same. (I think his wife was pushing a stroller, so I wouldn't have moved in front of her, and instead of bumping into him I just stopped and figured he would go around.

Pam says the guys wife was in shock when I responded with a smile and said something on the order of: I expected that he was a gentleman and that if I stopped my course that it would allow him to adjust and keep moving.
I suspect I could have used the Fried Green Tomatoes line that : I'm older and wider and have more insurance, but since I stopped as opposed to running into him, I thought that I had done the smartest, safest thing and that he would simply step towards his wife and continue walking.

Pam's take was that he was trying to intimidate me, but I truly wouldn't have even noticed anyting ary if not for his strange comment. After he waited for me to move for some moments and I just kept smiling and looking up at him, he finally stepped around easily enough and I started walking again....Since this has never happened before, I can't imagine that I've led such an oblivious life that people are often finding me 'bullying' my way around. I can't imagine how that guy navigated his way through the crowds the rest of the day, but hopefully, he now realizes that not everyone is intimidated by size, for goodness sake!

So anyhow, where is a Viking :viking: when ya most need one?
