View Full Version : Waitlist ???

I need someone to help us understand how the waitlist works.

We are at SSR Nov 26 and 27th. Then we switch to BW-Preferred View through
Dec 3.

Tuesday I called MS to try and switch the two days at SSR to BW.

The 26th was available, but not the 27th.
There was no way we were going to switch rooms twice (once is bad enough), so we declined and went on the waitlist.

All rooms are studios.

How does the waitlist work? Does it go by the seniority date of the request?
Do they fill the lessor number of days (like us, we only need two days) as opposed to someone trying to book/switch an entire vacation stay?

Any insight would be appreciated.

I believe it is by seniority of the date. The first to ask gets the first available date, regardless of whether you are seeking 1 or 5 days.

My experience is you will get your one day, but no guarantees!

If you needed multiple days, many feel you should wait list the days individually rather than as a group ressie. That way as each day becomes available, MS will call and ask you if you want it. It may take longer to get all your days but the odds will seem to be in your favor.

You could make a cash ressie for the day you need at the BW and then cancel it when you get your wait list day. That way you won't be moving.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Here's some pixie dust for your wait list! :dust

I'm in the camp where I would only waitlist the two days as a group, to avoid any potential for moving multiple times. It might hurt the odds of the waitlist coming through, but at least you know you won't be stuck with the BWV -SSR - BWV scenario!

Ok, sorry to hijack but I have a question on HOW to waitlist.

Ok I am booked at SSR or the end of January and next month I can move my reservation to another resort.

I don't have enough points to do both reservations at the same time, keep SSR while trying to get the other one.

I plan on waitlisting day by day, but I guess I need to be walked through the process of how to do it and what to say when I call MS.

In a similar vein, this Monday I can start calling to switch my December reservation at the seven month mark. I don't have enough points (without borrowing) to keep the whole reservation, but I'm not going to worry about it, since I think I can probably get SSR back in a few months if I need it, and if not, I can get AKL at a really good group rate for the event I'm going to.

So... is there an option to have them automatically book me into BWV if the waitlist comes through, at the same time cancelling my SSR stay for that day? I know they will auto approve the waitlist, but I don't know if they will also cancel a reservation for you simultaneously.

Thinking back to when we went through this, we had a week booked and wanted to switch to the following week, same resort, same points, and we too were point shy at the time.

Anyway, you can call MS and ask to wait list the individual days and as they become available you cancel the corresponding day at SSR. It may take a while, but most folks say you get your days eventually. Problem here is you could end up with a day here and a day there and you probably don't want to move mid trip.

Or, as Granny suggests, put the entire ressie on one wait list, thus its all or nothing. As the new one comes available you simply cancel the other.

Either way, MS will walk you through it. Its done all the time.

So is this now the official "Wait List - Pixie Dust" Thread?

Thanks, I think I am going to waitlist day by day. I don't worry about having to move because I think at 35 days out if I don't have all my days then I can move the whole reservation back to SSR no problem. I don't see an issue of not having avail there that late out.

I decided to just cancel my SSR reservation. Like you, I think I can get either SSR or OKW later on if I need to. Or worse comes to worst, I'll pay to stay somewhere else and not use my points. That's really no big deal, since it's just a three day weekend, so two of the nights cost a lot of points anyway.

Anyway, I had to waitlist for the Thursday night, but the Friday night I got at my first choice. Availability looks good for the Saturday. I'll try for the Sunday, since I don't care whether I have the Thursday or the Sunday, so I guess that doubles my odds.

Just wanted everyone to know that our wait list came through for the first two days of our Nov/Dec 06 stay at BW.

I had been out on the DVC website and checked our point total and could tell it had changed. Sure enough, the paperwork came in the mail today.

First time we used the waitlist.
It came through pretty quickly.

Thanks Mar. We are really excited. Moving to a different resort was not something we were looking forward to.

I have been working on Ron trying to get him to commit the Dec 07 Grand Gathering.

We are going down in Oct that year, rather than Sept. So have been working on him to not stay two weeks in Oct, but two weeks Nov/Dec.

He is getting closer, but not quite to my side of the fence!!

I am with you 100% Kathy--I hate moving rooms, much less resorts, I'm really happy you got what you were waiting for! And of course I'm with you on the 12/07 thing too! Got my fingers crossed that you and Ron can make the big Mouseowner's meet in 12/07!:birhdaypa  :fingerscr

One thing that I did not realize is that the waitlist is by member number. I have 4 different member numbers becuase I have four contracts with different use years. I asked MS if one of my waitlist comes through can I book it with points under a different member number. They said the only way to do this is if you tranfer points to the other membership number. Just thought that I would share this inforamtion. You learn something new everyday. This does not help out if you have banked points that can not be transfered.

2 weeks from yesterday I can start to switch mine over. It seems as if a lot of people (from reading on the other board) are either at BWV in Jan or trying to switch over to it.

Not sure what to do, if I should try for it (because I want a 1bdrm BW view) or go for VWL.
