Introducing the New Disney Gift Card
Spring and summer are full of gift-giving opportunities. And now, there's a magical and convenient way for remembering those special occasions.
Beginning this May, Cast Members and guests can purchase the Disney Gift Card in amounts ranging from $5 to $1,500 and reload the card at any time. The Disney Gift Card is flexible and easy to redeem at select Disney-owned and licensed locations.
Card users can shop, dine, stay and play at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, purchase merchandise at Disney Store locations in the U.S. and at DisneyShopping.com, vacation on Disney Cruise Line and much more.
The Disney Gift Card can be purchased from:
Walt Disney World Resort
Disneyland Resort
U.S. Disney Stores
DisneyShopping.com
DisneyGiftCard.com
I just wanted to post this over here. We heard about this at work last night and think it's a great idea. This way, you buy the gift card and if the person you give it to doesn't use it all at WDW or DL, they can still use it at Disneyshopping.com or TDS! Finally! :bouncingg

I like the fact that it can be purhcased at a Disney Store for use at a Disney theme park - makes a great gift for friends with an upcoming visit, without having to buy it at WDW 'in person'. Usually getting to a Dsiney Store is much more convenient for the purchaser, if not quite as fun!

I didn't know you could recharge them! We got one for going to the DVC presentation but spent it all at DTD afterwards lol. I did wonder why they gave the card back to me when it was empty. DUH

Hmm I think I am going to get one of these for DW and I in Dec rather than setting up charging privelages on our room and going to the front every couple days to pay off the balance. This seems much more user friendly to me plus we can re load it for future visits.

How is it available in the Disney Stores? THought those were all owned by TCP.... why would they want someone using a Disney-bought gift card and getting items from their store, but with no immediate revenue going to them? I mean, if you bought it at WDW, for example - why would a non-Dinsey owned store want you to use it in their shop?
Are the cards perhaps purchasable in the Disney Stores (you can't buy with them there, but you can get them there for your Disney trips, kinda like tickets?) Do they even sell the tix anymore at Disney stores? CAn't remember - haven't had to do that ever, so it's not in my data bank, LOL.
I'm abit confused by that - but maybe I'm low on octane today....:coffee2: Didn't get enough a.m. coffee. Feel free to illuminate me as needed.

Yes, you can still buy tickets and Disney Dollars at TDS, even though they are owned by Hoops Retail (who own The Children's Place). I would assume that whatever deal that TWDC has with Hoops in regards to these other items stands with these new cards.
The cards are of a new style and were set to start selling on May 1. I don't know if you have, for example, a red TDS card, can you use it at WDW. You can try it but it might not work. I don't work at TDS anymore, and I have not been in my shop here at WDW yet this week. I will try to remember to ask one of my managers over the weekend (I only work there Sat- Sun).
For years, even before TWDC sold TDS, we had this problem. TDS was in a different division (Consumer Products). While we still own Disneyshopping.com (which is still part of Consumer Products), you could never use anything but their own gift cards with them.

I can tell you that they do have them at the Disney Store and they are an adorable holographic Mickey. My Cast Member friend was so surprised that I new all about them, thank you Doombuggy, and she said that the only place she could figure that you couldn't use them was at Disney Auctions. She said yes, valid at WDW, Disney Store, etc., etc., So I guess I am going to go and take the Wachovia visa gift card that I got for Christmas and convert it to a Disney gift card that won't lose its value.

Good idea, RweTHEREyet.
Apparently there is a site that has more info on the cards: www.disneygiftcard.com
