I'm ready to get a new cell phone. Since it looks like I'll be using Southwest quite a bit from now on, I want a phone that I can use to check-in. I'm looking at a Motorola RAZR. At the Cingular store they told me it uses WAP technology. But they couldn't tell me about checking in using the cell phone. I called Southwest, but they don't know about WAP technology, and suggested I contact my cellular provider.
Does anyone have a Motorola RAZR, and can you access mobile.southwest.com on it??

Everyone in my family just got Motorola Razr phones, including Grandma, but I don't have a clue as to how to access the internet. I know we got the media package for one month because it made the phone cheaper to add on a new feature. We can cancel after 30 days.
If you are looking at phones at a Cingular "company" store, all of their phones are active and you can sign on to anything, including the internet. At least that is the way it is in our area. So, you might want to try a "company store" rather than one of their franchises that don't let you actually try out an active phone.
I wasn't sure about getting the Razr at first, not sure if I would like it, but I have really fallen in love with it. I particularly love the color that the keypad turns when it gets a little dark where you are and the keypad lights up.

I called Cingular customer service earlier today and they told me about the live phones in the Cingular stores. But DH and I visited two Cingular stores last night and neither person we spoke with mentioned it. The guy in Customer Service was a little upset that they didn't tell us last night.
And yea, they were real Cingular stores.
So I'm either off to a Cingular store again today, or maybe I'll call and ask.

I called one of the stores I visited last night and they told me they don't have the live bar. So I tried a different store. I was asking about MEdiaNet, and the person I was talking with was relaying the conversation to another store employee. We got into the specifics about Southwest, and the other employee asked, "Is that Leventhal??" I said no, and gave me my name.
I ended up talking with the other guy who just demonstrated it yesterday to "Leventhal". So he knew exactly what I was referring to, and even said, "You'll be able to check-in with Southwest."
I'm ordering the phone today. If I order on-line I get an additional $20 off the phone, and it should be here by Friday.

You will just love it.
I feel I need to have a case for it though as it is so thin, and I think easy to misplace or forget you have it in your pocket. I haven't found a case yet that I really like.
We have several Cingular stores in our area, but they are not all owned by Cingular. The others offer nothing but Cingular service, but they are franchises. That may have made the difference.
And did I mention that the keypad turns the most beautiful color of turquoise when it lights up? :)

I have a case that I bought several years ago in Disneyland. It's a soft sided case. And even through the new RAZR isn't the right shape to fit, the soft sides allow it to slide in.
We checked it out last night when we were in one of the stores.

I don't have a Razr phone but my Motorola V220 seems to be the same with regard to buttons and the way the phone operates. I think I have figured out how to do the wireless checkin with Southwest. I set my phone up last night to bookmark the mobile.southwest.com URL. Here are the steps:
Press MENU button (very top center of keypad, with the 3 or 4 dashes on it)
Select SETTINGS (screwdriver & wrench symbols)
Scroll down to WEBACCESS and select
Scroll down 1 to GO TO URL and select
Enter the URL: mobile.southwest.com (for the . press 1) & click OK
It will then connect you to southwest website. To bookmark the site press and hold down the MENU button and save the bookmark.
The next time you want to access southwest you will simply follow these steps:
Menu
Settings
WebAccess
WEBSHORTCUTS
Select Southwest
GOTO
Once you are connected you can see where you can select Checkin and then fill in your confirmation number and first and last name.
I will try it out on Saturday when I can check in for my flights. Hopefully it works for me!!!!

Thanks. I'll have the phone less than a week before leaving for our trip. Your instructions will be very helpful.
I also intend to use it for check-in before we leave, just so I can try it out.

Just an update, I used my cell phone to checkin for my flights on Southwest and it worked perfectly. I used the steps in my previous post with no problems!! Hope this helps others.

Ditto for me. I used my phone to check in on May 10th and when we got to the airport on May 11th we printed out our A Boarding Passes.
Using Cingular's Pay As You Go internet access rate, it costs about 5-6 cents to check in with Southwest.
