From the new AllEars email newsletter -

"I heard that Pleasure Island will be discontinuing the nightly midnight fireworks after December 31, 2005. They are also removing the West End and Hub stages to build a bridge to help with foot traffic. They said the buildings the fireworks are shot from are going to be rehabbed. No word if they will ever come back."

I have never seen them. Guess I will have to make it a priority this year while at SSR.

:( I know they weren't much, but it would be my luck that they discontinue them 6 days before my first trip to SSR!

We closed up PI Thursday nite. We were outside at 11:55 and there were no crowds gathering at the stage,no events going on, no indication they were going to have "New Years". We went back into a club & came outside again 5-10 minutes after midnite and saw no traces of "New Years".

Do they have the fireworks everynight ?

I just read a GREAT article at miceage.com talking about a potential replacement for the PI fireworks:

"Tantalizingly, there are also clues of a different sort of nighttime entertainment. The smart money is on a water and fireworks show on the lagoon just behind the area. That sounds intriguing, especially if they do it right. The possibilities are endless. What if it’s "Bellagio meets Fantasmic?" Giant fountains, fireworks, and other special effects could make for an engaging show, and a real reason to visit this district after dark. (And spend money, of course.)

How cool is that? How many SSR owners would be really juiced to get a nightly water/light show on Lake Buena Vista--presumedly at some hour earlier than midnight? ;)

Here's a link to the entire article:

It's a fun read, and walks through some plausible reasons for PI's impending demise.

Oh, and am I the only one that thinks Raglan Road looks really cool?

Ohhhhhh - what are the odds that A) that's correct and B) they'll be ready for a great show by next Dec??????

I'd love to have my In-Laws see that when we stay there! They don't get to vacation much and I really want to treat them!

I am home and I missed it. I was so darn tired by midnight I didn't even see all 17 seconds.

We even missed out on going to the night clubs. Both nights we planned were to chilly to club hop so we skipped it. Now we may never get the chance :(
