Allegiant Air seems to be picking up a lot of routes from TransMeridian. They currently have introductory rates of $59 (one way) from St. Louis, Allentown, PA and Rockford, IL to Orlando Sanford.
We picked-up a $49 rate from Toledo to SFB for our February trip. Not sure if that rate is still available or not, but the others appear to be. See website for details:

Sanford is about 45 minutes away from WDW by car. It takes a little more time to drive to WDW, but you more than make up for it via the ease of getting out of the airport. It's a much smaller facility than MCO--we usually have our lugguge and are on our way to pick-up the rental car about 10-15 minutes after getting off the plane.
Unfortunately it's not serviced by DME. In the past, we've rented a car just for our arrival and departure days, and use the National desk at the Dolphin to return / collect our car on the appropriate days.
