I sent this in to AllEars and they haven't used it so I guess it is safe to post it here now. :)

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Review

Both my daughters (ages 8 and 5) had appointments at the new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on grand opening day (Wednesday, 4/5/06). When you check in they give you a pager so you can be looking around the World of Disney store while waiting. We were the second set of appointments for that day and had about a forty minute wait due to I'm assuming the opening day festivities. There were many Disney cast members present and it looked chaotic, but once we got inside all had settled down and we were quite comfortable. (It looked crazy while we were waiting!) We counted ten chairs inside and I'm sure they are going to have to expand soon cause my girls LOVED this! We had chosen the Crown package when we booked, but for some reason they had us down as a Coach package without the nails, but they were able to accommodate us. A tip - avoid the fake fingernails. I never quite heard the choices so I don't know if they could have gotten their nails painted instead, but the fake fingernails bothered both my girls later and my youngest had lost three before we had even left Downtown Disney. (They do give you a second set to take home.) Another tip - choose the Pop Princess style! I looked over the other styles being done and neither the Fairytale Princess or the Disney Diva looked nearly as fun! My oldest got blue hair extensions and my youngest got pink hair extensions, both with fun rhinestone Mickey head clips. They looked really cool! (Make sure you comb their hair well beforehand. We noticed none of the stylists were using combs! They went through my daughters' hair with their fingers.) It was great fun and Disney has a huge hit on their hands. I foresee this as being another very hard to get reservation! They get to take their makeup with them in a cute bag and they also have trading pins available for purchase. A PhotoPass photographer was also on hand and got some wonderful pictures of the girls' expressions when they turned them around to see themselves in the mirror. Make sure to do this early in the day - we later went to MGM and everyone was stopping my girls and asking about their hair. They both love attention so this was right up their alley! The Boutique gives the girls banners to wear across their chest that say Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, too! After your girls are done they can go over to the Wonderful World of Memories store and get more pictures taken with your PhotoPass card with a professional looking backdrop. The photographer must have taken about thirty photos of my girls, too! You can purchase them then or wait and view them online once you get home. I saw this photo setup prior to their appointment and I'm glad I asked the PhotoPass photographer about it while in the Boutique because it was never mentioned to us. In summary, this was a great time!

That sounds like so much fun! I am glad your experience was positive Shan!

Your girls look so cool and I bet they did love the attention!

So this gets a thumbs up then? Good value by Disney standards?

I can shead some light on the hair combing bit. If you are not a licenced hairstylist, you can't comb the hair with a comb or brush. Fingers don't count as a comb or brush. :)

Ya, that is what DH said - their way of not having to have licenses. Pretty smart of them.

Now, I'm not rushing Amelia to grow up or anything (it is bad enough she's already going to be 1 THIS SUNDAY), but these are the things I'm looking forward to in the future. Lord knows her Momma loves to be pampered! :woohoo: :hahahaha:

Thanks for the review and the photos, Shan! I was there for the 'soft opening' and it was a little busy!!!

FYI for anyone interested there is also a 'princess beauty' seciton with lip gloss, etc. I did buy my little 4 yo friend princess swirly lipgloss with sparkles, in a tube with a crown on top. She was in heaven (and it's going to run out soon since she uses it all day long!)

Thanks everyone! :)

They really had a great time!

Laura, I totally think this was good value. It was $45 with the nails, $35 without. Totally worth the price! I'll never forget the look on my oldest when they spun her around and she saw herself in the mirror. The PhotoPass photographer caught it, but I didn't. I already ordered the pic online. I would not be surprised if they increased the price. I think going early in the morning increases the value. They got a full day of attention. :) Plus, they sprayed like half a can of hairspray on it, so it lasted all day. I can't imagine going later and then having to take that all down and wash their hair. It was quite a chore! They also poured about a bucket worth of glitter on them, literally for about two weeks I was still seeing glitter stuck on their scalps - and this is with swimming all week and multiple shampoos!

They got to keep the banners, two sets of nails, makeup, hair extensions and each got four Mickey rhinestone hair clips.

Melody, I can't believe Amelia is one either! OMG! That did fly by fast! I'll always remember when she was born because I was so excited about her name, ya know my oldest is Emelia. ;) You have great taste!

Before ya know it, we'll all be talking about our teens and trying to get them to go with us on another DVC trip.

I will always remember your daughter's name because of that! :) In fact, when people ask us how we spell Amelia, I always add that I know someone who spells it Emelia!

Thanks for posting - CUTE pics!

Wondering how those haristyles would hold up in August, though... it's definitely something for me to consider for my annual mom/dd day at Disney. I've been jumping around on ideas for that day (DH takes the 2 DS off to D Quest while dd and I do the "girly stuff" that makes young boys gag, LOL) We've MK usually, with a special meal like Cindy's. I had looked into a My First Spa experience, as I think she would like that (she LOVES to have her nails / toenails painted) and if they only use their fingers in her hair, she would be ok with that (she can brush her hair herself but HATES to have anyone else do it, LOL) Wondering about maybe, instead of a park day, do a nice b'fast, maybe a bit of swimming, then taking her to this and maybe tea at GF, and doing the Cindy dinner at GF that night. But I'm worried that in the heat of August, having a head of glitter might not be too comfy for her?:veryconfu

Opinions welcomed...

Melody, I like how you call her Amelia. I wish we would have done that. We started calling our daughter Emmy for a nickname and it stuck. My youngest also goes by a nickname and if you called her by her real name she probably wouldn't even turn around. :p

I bet she would love it. I'm telling you my girls had a BLAST and all the other girls in there were enjoying themselves, too.
Your plan sounds AWESOME! You can't have a more magical day than that! I think she'd be fine, I imagine you could ask them to lay off the hairspray and glitter some, but it didn't seem to bother my girls and it held up thru an entire day at MGM. Might be sticky if it rains, though...

My husband and I call her Amelia. My Mom, sister and the rest of my family call her Mia. I don't know that I could call her that, though. Emmy is a pretty nickname!

My DD will be 12 when we go to WDW.. She's not at all precocious, in fact, she's already dissapointed that she won't be able to wear her Snow White costume.
Do you think a 12-year-old would like the experience?
Thanks!

I would think so. I saw a teenager in there. She might like one of the other styles better, though - cause the Pop Princess is really in your face. The teenager I saw was getting the Fairytale Princess style done.

Got a couple questions if you don't mind:

* Can you opt to have the hair done in an elaborate, princess-like style? We like to refer to DD as a real "girly-girl". She loves to strut around WDW (and the house, for that matter) in her princess dresses. I'm sure she would love a little pampering, but I don't know how she would take to having the glitter and a funky 'do. :)

* Who do you call to make the reservations? How far in advance?

Thanks.

Tim, from AllEars -

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique salon transforms little girls into Disney princesses with hairstyling, make-up, and manicures with the help of a "Fairy Godmother-in-Training." The Fairy Godmother herself "owns" the new Boutique, which offers a menu of salon services designed to pamper princesses age 3 and up. Package options and prices include:

-- Coach Package: Includes hair style and shimmering makeup -- $35 plus tax.
-- Crown Package: Includes hair style, shimmering makeup and nails -- $45 plus tax.
-- Castle Package: Includes the Crown Package plus an imaging package (one 6x8-inch photo and four 4x6-inch photos in a Princess-themed photo holder). Also includes a complete child-size costume with accessories -- starting at $175 plus tax.

Each package comes with a sash, and there are three different hair style options from which to choose: the Fairytale Princess, the Disney Diva and the Pop Princess.

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique now also offers a boys' experience called "Cool Dude." Cool Dude offers hair styling, colored gels/sparkles and Mickey stencils for young men looking to enhance their appearance.

Hours of operation for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will be 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily (last appointment will be at 5:30 p.m.), seven days a week. Walk-ins are accepted; however, reservations are strongly encouraged by calling 407-WDW-STYLE (939-7895).

I called them the other day to ask about NYE. I think I'm gonna take the girls back so they can have the funky hair for that night. They told me you can call 180 days out. I asked what time do the phones open and she told me 9, but sounded uncertain. I might call back and ask again to be sure.

Yes, the Fairytale Princess style was pretty simple - sorta an updo with shimmer put in and a crown. Sounds like what your little girl would love! We saw several girls getting this done, but my girls wanted the bright hair. :jester:
