We have been wanting to try Jiko, but I am very allergic to curry, and I know African food uses a lot of that. Has anyone eaten there recently? Is there anything without curry?

Lots of things!! :)
Of course you should always clear this with the staff before ordering--but, the only thing I can think of that has curry in it is the Malay Shrimp Entree.
Curry is really an Indian and Asian spice, and it's used much more in the far nothern end of the african continent (ie. Morrocco) than anywhere else in Africa.
If you've never been, I strongly encourage you to try it. It's a beautiful place, the food and service are world class (esp. the Wine list - it IS THE BEST So. African wine celler in the US!). Just stop by, call ahead or ask to speak with a chef once you get there!
Enjoy! :)

The veggie dish with tofu has a 'curry' flavour too. It's one of my favourites.
Chef Annette is one of the most flexible, creative chefs at WDW so she can definitely help with any needs. However, as DVCconvert said, there are a lot of choices covering an entire continent.
Enjoy!

One of the first things our server asked us was if there were any dietary restrictions they should be aware of. I know the Filet Mignon with Macaroni and Cheese didn't have curry.
Side note: The Tanzanaian Chocolates are off the menu right now. ARRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a box with three zebra domes (little mocha mousse filled things, I believe, I'm not a huge fan, but lots of people are); and two chocolate mousse squares on a crispy chocolate base. Box is around $4. These are some of the most favoured desserts at Boma, so it's nice to be able to buy a takeaway box.
Enjoy!!

I managed to get the recipe from them. Haven't had a chance to make it yet but DEFINATELY plan to.

My husband loved that dish.
I wasn't impressed by Jiko. It was good, but not exceptional. I had the beef ribs, and they just weren't flavorful - neither the meat or the spicing. And the potatos they were sitting on were little more than a garnish - too much meat, too few veggies on the plate. The dessert (the pistachio creme brulee) was just OK. The waiter was alternatively rushing us and indifferent, and brought out the wrong food.
But my husband loved it so we will be back.

I got a ressie for one of our last nights there. With my food allergies, I figured the smaller restaurants like this will be most accommodating.

I had no idea you could get the mousse and zebra domes at Mara! Oh, had I known...
Diane, my friend went to WDW a few months ago and is deathly allergic to garlic, which as you can imagine is really hard to avoid. Especially since she's always worried that something would have been in the pan before, or near it, or whatever. I'm sure you already know this, but she's said several times how wonderful it was that every restaurant was so accomodating to her dietary needs at WDW - I think they really go out of their way there in reference to food allergies.
We've done Boma a lot and love it, but not Jiko. Would you all take children to Jiko? Or would that be best for a kid's club night? Never had our kids be old enough for the kid's club either, but we could do that in a few years.

Diane, just FYI I called ahead once and while they have a veggie entree, Chef Annette had written out a special menu of numerous options she could create for me that evening. Extremely accommodating...
Enjoy your dinner!!

We took my nieces to Jiko and they are 4 & 6. We were a little nervous as this was their first time in a fancy restaurant but they managed well. We had spent the day visiting family up in Gainesville so they weren't tired from being at the parks all day. We also had the most amazing server, Shellie. She was so amazing with the girls. Which reminds me, I need to send a note to Disney about her. She was incredible.

I will probably do that. I have only three food allergies, but two of them are pesky to stay away from. One is eggs, and the other MSG. The Curry is a bit easier to identify, since most places name it on the menu if it is in a dish. I rarely ask about that most places, but I do ask about egg and MSG.
