I was wondering what's so special about Uzima Pool that DVC members are not allowed to pool hop? I can understand Stormalong Bay's popularity, but not Uzima Pool. The pictures on All Ears Net just show it as a normal pool, similar to the one at Wilderness Lodge (although it does seem quite large). Is there something that's not showing in the pictures?

I've always assumed it was to keep people from trying to swim there and view the animals..... but I've never been there - can you see animals from the pool area?

I once read that all resorts were specifically asked to opt into or out of the pool hopping perk and that AKL declined to participate. Given the potential food and souvenir business, it would seem to be in their interest to participate.
Don't know if there's any real truth to that or not.
I can tell you that it's one of the smallest pools on-site, which would be a pretty valid reason for restricting guests.

Uzima pool gets very crowded :grrrrr: even with the number of guests that are staying at AKL
There are no quiet pools at AKL and as noted above as a theme pool it is not that big to start with
Now if they can only do something about how much cooler they have let the pool there become compared to prior years

From the hot tub areas in the back part of the pool, you can see animals.

It's not a very large pool to begin with. It's also not very special.
I doubt any new resort will allow PH in the future. They don't want the hassle. Plus, DVC is getting HUGE. We could easily overwelm several pools at once.
Anybody else remember the "other board" discussion about PH when AKL announce no hopping and SAB exclusion followed shortly thereafter ? I battled quite extensively with a certain dwarf mod about the absurdity of WDW telling us we couldn't swim at AKL until the anilmals had a chance to get familiar with their new surroundings. What a crock.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm trying to figure something out...
I've read posts that say Uzima Pool is the largest at WDW, and then I see posts here that say it's really small.
Which is it, and why the difference of opinion?
Thanks! (I'll be spending a fair bit of time there in December, so am wondering!)

I also thought it was a massive pool. Of course AKL is a massive resort and I can imagine that pool could get quite busy at peak times. I would not make a trip over to Uzima for pool hopping even if it were included, though. It is too cold and not all that special.

Just eyeballing it off some satellite maps, it's pretty clearly the 2nd largest DVC pool at WDW. It might be the 2nd biggest pool overall - from what I can tell (again - HIGHLY unscientific here) only the Dig pool at CSR, Guitar pool at ASM and, maybe, the main pool at the GF are comparable. The vastly underrated Swolfin pool is significantly bigger, if you count it. And keep in mind this measures size, not capacity (which might be limited by things like the zero-entry area).

I guess we will see when the New Pool goes on-line . I would think Hopping to that will be allowed. I also wonder if they will stop you from going from the AKL pool from the other building or if it will be treated like a sister resort in reguards to the pools and other stuff.

The AKL pool doesn't do much for me. The slide is too tame, and the maximum depth must be only 4 to 4 1/2 feet. I'm hoping the new "water play area" at Kidani will improve our pool experience.
I did however discover the steam room at AKL on our last day. Now that's a real treat.:woohoo:

Where is that steam room? I just got back from there and never saw it.
A CM told me it is not allowed because the pool size compared to the resort size does not allow it. They also told me that the Kidani pool will not likely allow pool hopping.
This may not be true, but is what I was told.

Our guide told us last week that it was one of the largest, which shocked me because I've personally always thought it was small.

I am so underwhelmed with the Uzima pool.. Its large, but the slide is not great, overcrowded and over-chlorinated. It is zero depth and great for little kids but there isn't much of a 'deep' area to actually swim in.

Other than SAB at Beach Club/Yacht Club/BCV and I think the pools at FW, I do not think any of the Disney pools would qualify as "deep"?
I think Uzima is a mid-sized pool - the zero entry area takes a lot of space.
Cheers
