THANK YOU!

FInally...every day I've been trying to get something and the best was $150 AND I had to have my Tampa friend drop it off at the airport the day after i left to get the Saturday stay over.

So, finally I tried SAt to SAt with a pick up at MCO and the rate of $110 for 7 days came through....jeez. Now I have to cancel all the others i have out there.

This has been a real piece of work this time.

Come Saturday pick up day I will call and see if I can possibly pick the car up at Disney...maybe if I tell them that i will take a compact instead of an Equinox, they will let me get away with it. Otherwise, its a drive to go to the airport, but does anyone need a ride on April 29???????

CB -- Glad to hear this is all pulling together for you. I'm really amazed at the prices I've been able to get this time around!

Hi Crsndsny,

Thanks for the codes. Has there/or will there be a problem with combining the walmart code with the coupon code, instead of using the ID code on the coupon?

Thanks, Jim.

I acquired that code through another board's suggestion. They have not reported having trouble with it.

THough, I am going to go back to the OPer of that code to ask them of any stipulations that I may not be aware of -- for instance, is there something that I shoudl have printed out?

Another thought that I had is that in my experience, if a code is not valid, the website will say that after you've entered it in. So, if all three of those went through and gave you a price and then on the final statement breakdown of price it lists all three, then I believe that would make it valid.

I will let you know what I find out though.

Does Alamo have any program like Emerald Aisle at National that lets you by-pass the check-in line?

I tried the codes you used and, unfortunately for me, the rate was $99 higher! I plan to keep searching though. I did make a reservation with another company, but it is not a great deal. Perhaps as it gets closer to my trip, a good deal will become available. Thanks for sharing the info though!

I *think* Alamo's Quicksilver program let's you by-pass the check in line. But depending on how the rental was arranged (no coupons, no SUVs, etc.) you can check in on-line and bypass the line as well. Here's the details from Alamo's website:

To qualify for Online Check-In, you must:

Meet minimum rental age requirements.
Have a clean driving record.
Have a valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license.
Provide a valid major credit card.

Alamo does not accept debit cards at time of rental. Although a debit card may be accepted online, you will not be able to process your transaction at time of rental.
Not available for some specialty class vehicles.
The following credit cards may be used to complete your Online Check-In transaction:
U.S. issued credit cards: Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover
Canada issued credit cards: American Express, Mastercard, VISA

Online Check-In is not available with reservations that contain the following:

Reservation is more than 30 days in duration.
Reservation is "On Request".
Additional equipment such as child seat/toddler seat/infant seat or ski racks, etc. Rentals requiring additional
equipment must go to the rental counter.
Coupon (including ecoupons) used with reservation.
Voucher used with reservation.
Applicant Business Account Number used with reservation.
Central Bill Number used with reservation.

I don't have actual experience, but I have read that you have to stand in their line, but then you get to go pick out your car. The standing in their line is the only thing holding me back from using Alamo.

Alamo now has on-line checkin that allows you to confirm your reservation 24 hours ahead of time from your computer and then just grab a car and leave when you arrive.

I can't give you a link to the exact page because Alamo's website uses frames (grrrrr :( ). But if you go to alamo.com you should see a banner on the main page touting on-line checkin. Go to that page and you should find links to more detailed info.

Of note, Orlando does participate in this program, but I did notice that you cannot use it if your reservation includes and discount coupons or ecoupons.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice Rita's post above. Much more detailed info there. :)

I'm going to try this advanced checkin myself in a couple of weeks. I'll report back as to how it went for us. I'm hoping that this shaves some time off our airport time. :highfive:

So, based on the coupon thing, it looks like I will be standing in line unless National comes through with some better deals.

Still wondering if once you go to the Alamo counter do you then go pick out your car, or do they hand you some keys and that is the vehicle you get?

Well, I may be jumping back to National after all. When I went in and added my hubby as an additional driver, it added $8.00 per day to the reservation, making it more than my original one with National. Being in the insurance industry, hubby wouldn't let one of us drive if we weren't on the contract. I don't want to drive all the time, but want to be able to drive when I want to. So I guess I gotta think about this some more.

If you sign up for Alamo's club thing (free) you should get an additional driver for free. My reservation shows one additional driver and I didn't pay anything extra for it.

In regard to your previous question, I don't think Alamo has an option comparable to Emeral Aisle or whatever National calls it. But, from my experiences, the desk employee you are working with knows what car they are assigning to you. If you have a preference, just ask about it before walking away and I'm sure most people will be glad to work with you. It's not like they are reaching into a box and just grabbing a set of keys. ;)

Alamo and National have common ownership. Alamo's focus is the leisure market while National is geared more toward the business traveler. I think you'll see that in the way they function and in their pricing. National may have the more flexible programs, but you're going to pay a premium price for it. Guess it just depends on your particular needs. I've used both and don't really have a hard-line preference.

Didn't work for me. I tried booking another reservation using my quicksilver no. and it still added $8.00 a day. I even called Alamo and asked the question. All she would do is try and book a ressie on their system and see what happened, and she said it added the $8.00 per day charge.

Funny, when I first stared talking to Alamo, she asked me for my Emerald no. Evidently the phone ressie people do both National and Alamo.

I used these same Alamo codes and got a convertible for 6 days the first week of May for $123 with tax. I can hardly wait to surprise my sister - she thinks we are getting an Equinox.

Which codes did you use? The ones in the first post?

The best I could get on a convertible was $181 for 4 days in mid-May. I've already got an SUV for $92. I'd probably switch to the convertible for a rate like yours, but not for twice the price.

Thx.

Yes, I used the 430710, BY and D24C codes. I made my ressies several weeks ago. The prices lately have not been that low. What are your dates?? Are you a Costco member??? Have you tried making the ressies through them using their discounts?

That makes sense. I noticed that even the type of SUV I have booked is now about $50 more for the same dates. Guess I should have priced the convertible back when I got the $92 SUV.

Oh, well. There's always next time.

Thanks again.

Just FYI, I came up with the same #s running the OPs wal-mart codes as I did with the entertainment book id # and coupon (7000440 / DY8B).

Gee, I thought I had the rental car thing all set, and now I'll spend 2 or three hours in a click-fest because of you people!

I told my DW I came up with a convertible price $75ish cheaper at Alamo than Nat'l and her response was "great, that'll pay for 2 of those Mickey Sorcerer hats the boys suckered you into buying last trip."

What I really have to decide is do I want to deal with the check-in line at 10:00 PM for 20 bucks or so. If you go the "prepay" route, don't use a coupon and follow the online check-in gouge, it still appears to be cheaper than Nat'l Emerald.

Perhaps I'm jinxing myself by asking this, but why are you all so set against the checkin line? Have you experience extraordinarily long waits? Everytime we've rented (the past 4 or 5 trips), we've just walked right up. In fact, DH will get our luggage while I go down to the counters. It works out perfectly.

I'm just curious....please explain your rationale to me please! :flowerfor Maybe I'm missing something?

Blue&Gold - suckered into the hats...is that what I have to look forward to in a few years when Amelia starts crying for things??? LOL

Try signing up for Alamo's Quicksilver program. From what others have said on another board, Alamo has a separate counter with much shorter lines for those who are Quicksilver members. I signed up for this program and hope to encounter shorter lines when I pick up my car on Sunday. I will let you know how it goes!

Same here, *but* with the Walmart code you get a free additional driver. That's the only difference I found between the two... you get the same prices.

It's not the lines necessarily that bother me---they'll be shorter than Expedition Everest, I bet... It's the line roulette at 10:00 PM with two young ones and DW carrying #3 (internally)! We got in very late our last trip due to flight delays and were pretty miserable by the end of day 1 in the parks. I've learned my lesson and want to minimize the airport-villa "pain" and get the kids in bed!

And CRSNDSNY, the hats are the least of it! I'm waiting for one of the boys to ask for an add-on!
