In the past, DVC only offered the promotional discounts for add-ons of 100 or more points. However, according to the email newsletter I received today, they now give the discounted pricing for add-ons of just 50 points. The current discount is $8 off per point for a net of $90pp.

50-pt add-ons will also get you two 1-Day / 1-Park passes.

Wondering:
If I added on 50 points at 90 a point, do I get 50 points for 2006 with maintenance paid or not?

WIth closing costs at a minimum of 250 for 50 points, you save $5 a point.
If maintenance is paid by Disney for the 2006 points you save just under $5 a point...making it comparable to a resale for about 81 a point. Of course, if the resale has banked points, then it would still be a better deal at 81.

it seems taht there are still quite a few resales at under 81. So my question is, other than the ROFR factor which we all hate, why do people buy direct from Disney at 90?

Maintenance is always pro-rated as of the month of the closing. If you buy and the process closes on June 1st, you would pay 1/12 of the dues per month from June to December. Or, if you pay it in one bulk sum, you would just pay 7/12 of the published 2006 dues.

Interesting point. I've been running the numbers on small point contracts, resale vs DVC direct, to help determine how best to add on at the current $92 resorts. The threshold amounts for resale (not factoring in MF and any banked points) are about 25 points = $81; 30 points = $83; 40 points = $85; 50 points = $86 if I have done my math correctly. Of course, those thresholds don't including waiting for the 'right' contract with the 'right' UY, or the agony of ROFR!

Does the discount only apply to SSR contracts ?

Would the 50 pt add have to be one contract or could it be two 25's ?

Here's the e-mail.

To me, equal to would be 2-25's. Does not appear to be specific to SSR either.

Thanx Carrie,

Interesting. I haven't seriously considered an add on in a long time.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of math are you using? It seems like the resale numbers would be higher per point the smaller you get since closing costs are a larger portion of the per-point cost. Closing of $300 on 25 points is $12 per point, while on 50 it's only $6 per point.

Geesh, I would love to do this, but I bought all my points with a Cast Member discount, which isn't available to me right now. Guess I will sit tight with what I have for the meantime. I just want more OKW points.

Your math makes more sense than mine - please feel free to check my example as it was a little late at night when I did this, and I would like to make sure that I am actually correct! :dunce: (I did actually have a math brain at one point in life...)

Oh! I think that we are both actually saying the same thing in a different way. I am saying that the smaller the resale contract, it takes a lower cost per point to reach a total equal to buying direct from Disney. The higher the number of points, the higher the cost per point to be equal to Disney.

Make sense? it does now that I had a cup of coffee, hope that's correct!

HAHAHA
I'm laughing cause I tend to go off on these math tangents when I'm trying to figure something out....and then I find out (after my 3rd cup of jo) that I've done it backarsewards or something.....

I do see your points.
It seems that finding 'loaded' contracts is getting more and more difficult.
I don't think I'd add on unless I could have a loaded contract so that I could rent those initial extra points out to further lower my actual cost.

But so far, I've been happy with my 170 points that I share with my kid. She isnt' so interested in USING the points, so I have to 'rent' the points from myself if I use them to make the investment fair.

I have another question that I prob should make into a new thread...
I haven't been a DVC member all that long, so maybe I just don't have a good basis for comparison, but it seems that I am getting inundated from Disney by snail and email re purchasing into DVC...Did they always have such an active
ad campaign? Or would the new push have anything to do with slower sales?
I have no idea and I don't want to start a debate or anything...but I picked up 3 different 'ads' for DVC in my mail post 2 week vacation and I just opened an email ad for DVC......seems like a lot!
