O.K., going to show my ignorance again. I am new to Curves. Well, joined in Dec and went until I had to quit because Mom was in the hospital/rehab for almost 2 months.

So, I started back to Curves in March. Now, my place says do the circuit twice a visit for 30 minutes and only 3 days a week. It seems some of you go for longer than 30 minutes and more often maybe than 3 days a week. Is that something you do only after you have been going for a while? Do you get an evaluation before you veer from the recommended program? How do you know when you are ready for more than the basic program?

I had been going to Curves for over a year (albeit spotty for a time) before I started to veer away. They recommend strenght training 3 time a week, but also suggest doing other aerobic exercise at least 2 more days. (At least mine does) So, a walk on the in between days is perfect.

Now, I did not bump up my time there until I was 20 weeks out from teh marathon. My cross training plan called ofr more. The girls knew I was training for a marathon by then and had not problem with my staying on the circuit longer. I'd warn the people behind me typically, so they did not get confused when I kept going, though. In 4 months, I only had one person say anything, she was just another member adn was somewhat witchy to begin with, iykwim ;)

So, that's my story. Now that I'm back to "training to train" (Time before my full 20-week program starts), I'm back to my 30 minutes.

FYI - My Curves just started and advanced program for long time members too. If you start to get bored, you may want to ask about that.

JMO, but I'd wait 4 to 6 months before asking to go longer on teh equipment, unless oyu really feel like you're missing something.

You may just want to push yourself harder, though. I try not to talk while on teh machines and to close my eyes while on the machines. That helps a lot.

I started a little over a year ago also. When I first started they suggested 30 mins., 3 times aweek. I started off doing 3 times around which was about 40 minutes. After I was there a little while I started doing the bike also. They also have added more machines since I first started so it takes a bit longer to go around 3 times. They just told me do what ever was comfortable for me and then build it up from there. Noone says anything to us for staying longer. I really enjoy going. Good luck.

I do the same thing. There are a lot of the ladies that talk, talk, talk, but I enjoy focusing on what I am doing. I also find that I get a better workout if do that.

I am not up to all the repetitions listed on each machine yet, so I know it will be quite a while before I make any changes.

What made me ask my question, is there is a gal here at the office and she goes every day that they are open. I thought you were supposed to give yourself a day off inbetween visits at Curves.

Since I was away from Curves for so long, I will have my measurements taken for the first time since my very first visit. I am really interested to see how that turns out.

rwe - I still haven't gotten the courage to get measured again. I know I gained a lot last year in marthon training.

They tol dme you need a day for your body to recover from strength training, but I don't think they say anything about it. I know Mon, Tue Thur were teh only days that used to work for me, so that's what I went with. It really is better to get a couple different work outs in instead, but it's kind of a personal call for what you feel works for you. Many people go way above and beyond. I'm a firm beliver in your body needing rest days, but I am so lazy at heart. ;)

Do they have a bike at your Curves or do you do that on your own somewhere else. Do you do the complete circuit 3 times or do the circuit twice and then go do the ones you feel you need to work on for the 3rd?

My Curves says they have all but 1 machine, so it takes a full 30 minutes for 2 circuits for me and then additional stretch/cooling down time.

Sorry I didn't answer sooner......

Yes they have the bike at my Curves. I go around 3 times, that is why I am usually there for an hour. I do the ab machine and then the bike after my 3 circuits.
