WOW!!! Rented last night- Absolutely amazed with the wonder of the penguin- Never really gave much thought to penguins before (!) but their lives are pretty incredible... nature is incredible.

We enjoyed Penguins. Could have done with fewer "boinky" pop-up texts, but I thought the photography was amazing. How those guys did it is a wonder.

My kids LOVE this movie! I always wind up crying during it LOL My son now carries his stuffed penguin all over the house and named him Rodney like the one in the National Geographic short on the dvd.
DisFlan, not sure what you mean by pop-ups? We didn't have any. DId you watch it with the special features or something?
And Viking, I assume they are poultry so doesn't that mean white?

Stimpy - I dunno. We watched it on DirecTV Pay Per View. Maybe PPV showed the alternate format?
About every minute or 45 seconds, a text balloon (with a PYONGK sound effect) would pop up with stuff like "The 2 photographers were here for 2 years and lost 17 toes and 3 noses" or "penguins eat fish and barf it at their chicks." Stuff like that. Some of it was actually pretty funny. We loved the movie, but the text balloons got to be distracting after a while. Loved the photography, and the last scene when the partially-molted chicks took off on their own - well, I cried.
I may have to go buy a copy to figure out what happened. I'd like to watch it without all the "PYONGKS".
I watched Chicken Little yesterday - cute! Not a classic, but very cute.

I can definately understand not wanting the pop-ups then! It's probably better without them. I could just see myself ready to pull my hair out by the end of the movie if I had to read aloud all the PYONGKS to my kids! Grabbing tissues and reading aloud just doesn't work LOL ("Some of them will not make it"... sniffle sniffle, "The mother penguin won't make it back to feed the baby who will die"...tear, tear.....)

I believe the Direct TV version was "upgraded" to have the pop ups. SOunds liek that was a miss!

Yup, I'm gonna have to go buy the PYONGK-less version of Penguins. My nieces, 2.5 & almost 5, will be here in May. They want to see it and I don't want to have to read all that stuff to them - much less "this baby will die". I've been stocking up on the newer kid movies - Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Little, and I'll get Narnia this week. (I'm a big sucker for Wallace & Gromit, myself.)

Wallace and Grommit are definatly more for me than my kids!
Penguins was sad enough at times without more info! I think there is plenty of life info on the DVD without pop-ups! Who came up with that idea!?
