We are thinking of seeing Cirque during our upcoming May trip. I am looking for opinions on this show. The tickets are quite pricey, and I am wondering if it is worth it. I am thinking that this will be a good time to see it since we will be going without the kids.
I need some :help:

I've never seen it - plan to someday - but I've never heard anything but rave reviews.
DarthGoofy,
Cirque is a perfect event for a non-kids Disney trip! GREAT idea! Tickets aren't cheap at all, but I am pretty certain you'll walk away at the end of the show and say, "Wow, that was a good deal." I know we did. :flowerfor
I just asked my husband to describe the show, and he took a deep breath and said, "I can't." And then he laughed. And said, "It was good." I would say, "Dazzling."

We thought this was one of the best shows we've seen in our lives, and that's saying a lot since I'm a theater freak, and lived in NY for a long time.
I don't think it's probably worth paying for with kids (little ones, anyway, I'll take my girls when they are older), because I think they's only be on board for about half of it, and as you said, it's expensive, but on an adult trip, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
It does have a lot of, as my dh says, "cirque weirdness" but we agreed that even though a lot of it was just randomly weird, the skill of the performers is amazing, and worth watching whatever you think of the esthetic. We literally watched with our mouths open half the time.
We've seen their traveling productions too, since then, and though La Nouba was the best one we've seen so far, I think in large part because it is not a temporary theater, so they could do really neat things with the set.

I might get flamed for this, but I saw this on Saturday night and thought it was ok. My mom was here and really wanted to see it, so we went. The seats we had were good (Cat. 2, opposite the center stage) and we could see everything pretty well. I liked the arialists & the tight rope walkers, and a couple of other acts. Would I see it again - no. From what I understand, it is very European. Some of the dancers disturbed me. The way they were dressed (until the end of the 90 minute show) reminded me of George Orwell's "1984." Yes, the performers were very good, but it really did not blow me away. JMHO.
May the force be with you, DarthGoofy, no matter what you decide.
Doombuggy,
If anyone flames you for expressing your honest, respectful reaction to the show, it tells you a whole lot about that particular person!

We saw this last year and took our boys (then 3 and 5) and while the 3 year old wasn't entertained 100% of the time, he has asked to go to the show where the clowns are many times since then. My 5 year old was totally enthralled.
We loved it and I would certainly take this chance as an adult only trip to go to a nice dinner at DTD and see the show. While we enjoyed it as a family, hubby and I would have had a great "date night" if it had been just us as well.
Are they still doing the 25% discount for DVC members?

I don't know, but that is definately a great incentive to go.

We have never been, but it's on our list of things to do. I'm not sure if they still give a DVC discount or not. Here's a link to ticketmania for a little discount.

I didn't check the mousesavers link to see if there is any additional discount with ticketmania. I would check it out before purchasing.

I haven't seen La Nouba, but I did see another Cirque show (Quidam) in NYC when I graduated from graduate school. The show was absolutely amazing and you can really get lost in the music.
I'd be surprised if kids didn't enjoy it - Cirque seems to find a way to appeal to everyone. That clowns and acrobatics can be very entertaining.
I don't think you'll regret it. It's a strong show by a strong, creative company.

We've seen this show three times and have seen several other Cirque shows in London. I can't say enough positive things about it. Our entire family really enjoys it. It is seriously expensive, however. Hope you enjoy it.

We enjoyed the show so much that we went a second time about a year after seeing it the first time. Our son went with us both times. He enjoyed it enough to take his girlfriend last summer, making it his third time to see the show.

I haven't seen it yet. I keep saying next trip I will, but then I never do. I am thinking about it for my solo trip. I've seen the O show in Vegas and enjoyed it, so I would imagine I would enjoy La Nouba, also.

We really loved Cirque. It is truly unlike anything I had ever seen before...it's definitely not a traditional "circus". It was wonderful and I'd love to see it again in the future. Trying to convince DH that we need to see it in August :). :fingerscr
I love Cirque:hahahaha: I is an awesome show, even by Cirque standards. I have seen four of them and La Nouba twice. Friends of ours went with their 8 yr. old, who loved it! I don't think it will interest anyone under 5 for the entire production, but anyone over will be wow-ed. It is worth the price of the ticket. Just do it!

Here's part of a trip report I did last summer -
Cirque du Soleil
INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC, AWESOME! Mom treated us, we ordered early using the 25% off DVC discount. We had front row seats on the side of the stage. I was very nervous about taking DD4. I had already mentally prepared myself for the possibility I might have to leave during the show and wait outside with her. HA! She laughed, clapped, danced and every so often would whisper in my ear - I’m gonna learn how to do that! Yep, she is my dare devil for sure. Mom and I agreed - this is one of our best experiences at WDW yet. One time the bike performer came skidding over to me - I about had a heart attack! We laughed later, cause they put the spotlight on me and I know I must have looked like a total geek! My heart totally stopped. I totally recommend this. I have seen another Cirque show and this one was definitely more geared toward the entire family. Girls got some funky stick toy that they used during the show for $25 a pop. I didn’t mind cause we had such a great time. The store there is EXPENSIVE.
Afterward, the weather was beautiful and we walked around West Side (something I have never done) and really enjoyed ourselves. Got some soft serve and watched DD4 dance around pretending like she was in Cirque. A really great singer was playing outside of House of Blues, too. Fun night. (FYI - You can get a really awesome view of SSR from up the stairs outside of Cirque.)

We saw it in May 2004 and both agreed that it was one of the most entertaining and beautiful things we've ever seen. We hope to see it again in the future. We got CAT 1 seats next to the stage.

When it first opened, we were over on the West Side and wondered into the gift shop. Of course, we did not understand anything we were looking at.
Someone approached us do partake in a survery. We stood there and answered all of their questions and were ready to go buy tickets, until they told us the price. We were shocked.
We did get a free CD for taking the survery.
We finally saw the show about two years ago and loved every second of it. We were told since it was off season, that not all the performers would be in the show. Thank God as we had trouble knowing where to look. There is so much going on, everywhere.
I strongly recommend it. I think you will like it. I know we did.

We just purchased tickets with the DVC discount for June 30. It's still pretty pricey, but based on the great reviews, we're excited to see it.:doublejum

Has anyone challenged this show with a 2 1/2 year old???
I have always wanted to see this show and would like to during my next trip in January, but I am a little nervous about spending that kind of money only to have to leave with the baby.
I also have two teenagers that would love to see the show. :)
Chip,
I wouldn't go with a 2.5 year old (I have one too!). I was glad she made it through The Little Mermaid show in The Studios in Feb. (whew!) I figure Cirque will be one of those things that we hold off for as long as possible, so it'll be a big "adult" thrill sometime maybe around age 9? :)
Not saying you need to wait that long, of course!!! But, it is an expensive show, and quite busy, so it's hard to calculate when a particular child will get his/her parents' money's worth. :cool2:

On Monday May 8, 2006 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on BRAVO is
Cirque du Soleil: La Nouba
Stemming from a French phrase that translates to "to party, to live it up," La Nouba fulfills its meaning with ten spectacular acts, including the Aerial Cradle, Flying Trapeze, and the German Wheel.(TVKirby note - La Nouba is performed only at Cirque's Downtown Disney location in Walt Disney World)
This show will repeat Monday May 8, 2006 at 11:00 PM

When Cirque did its first city tour, I saw it in Denver...think that might have been Quidam or maybe that was the second one.....Either way, from the first I was completely entralled.
Since then (early 90's????) I've seen most of the shows that come in the summer to Denver, La Nouba, and O (the water version) and another one (forget the name) in Vegas.
I'd recommend them all!!
The show is hard to describe, but most of the participants have some background skills in dancing and gymnastics. The clowns/mimes are definitely of the French school; the music is great, often 'other wordly'. The young Chinese acrobats often steal the show, but all the entertainers are exceptional at what they do.....WOW!
